In this paper, we analyze oscillatory properties of perturbed half‐linear differential equations (i.e., equations with one‐dimensional p‐Laplacian). The presented research covers the Euler and Riemann–Weber type equations with very general coefficients. We prove an oscillatory result and a nonoscillatory one, which show that the studied equations are conditionally oscillatory (i.e., there exists a certain threshold value that separates oscillatory and nonoscillatory equations). The obtained criteria are easy to use. Since the number of perturbations is arbitrary, we solve the oscillation behavior of the equations in the critical setting when the coefficients give exactly the threshold value. The research and results described in this paper belong to the qualitative theory of differential equations (more precisely, the partial differential equations with the one-dimensional p -Laplacian). Using a method whose core is formed by the Prüfer technique, we identify a borderline case between oscillatory and non-oscillatory equations. Moreover, we are able to decide whether the studied equations are oscillatory or not even in the so-called critical (i.e., the borderline) case. The advantage of our approach is the fact that we obtain new and strong results for linear and half-linear equations (i.e., the equations with the one-dimensional p -Laplacian) at the same time. We study oscillatory properties of half‐linear dynamic equations on timescales. Via the combination of the Riccati technique and an averaging method, we find the domain of oscillation for many equations. The presented main result is not the conversion of a known result from the theory of differential or difference equations, ie, we obtain new results for the timescales T=R (for differential equations) and T=Z (for difference equations). Half‐linear equations generalize linear equations (in fact, they coincide with certain one‐dimensional PDEs with p‐Laplacian), but the main result is new also for linear differential and difference equations. Recently, it was shown that the Euler type half-linear differential equations ****with periodic coefficients r and s are conditionally oscillatory and the critical oscillation constant was found. Nevertheless, the critical case remains unsolved. The objective of this article is to study the critical case. Thus, we consider the critical value of the coefficients and we prove that any considered equation is non-oscillatory. We investigate oscillatory properties of second order Euler type half-linear differential equations whose coefficients are given by periodic functions and functions having mean values. We prove the conditional oscillation of these equations. In addition, we prove that the known oscillation constants for the corresponding equations with only periodic coefficients do not change in the studied more general case. We prove that the existence of the mean values of coefficients is sufficient for second-order half-linear Euler-type differential equations to be conditionally oscillatory. We explicitly find an oscillation constant even for the considered equations whose coefficients can change sign. Our results cover known results concerning periodic and almost periodic positive coefficients and extend them to larger classes of equations. We give examples and corollaries which illustrate cases that our results solve. We also mention an application of the presented results in the theory of partial differential equations. We analyse half-linear difference equations with asymptotically almost periodic coefficients. Using the adapted Riccati transformation, we prove that these equations are conditionally oscillatory. We explicitly find a constant, determined by the coefficients of a given equation, which is the borderline between the oscillation and the nonoscillation of the equation.
