Some aspects concerning the reproduction, growth, and population dynamics of Plesionika martia were studied. Individuals were collected monthly between May 2008 and April 2009 during surveys conducted using a commercial trawl vessel. Samples were collected from Sığacık Bay (Aegean Sea, eastern Mediterranean) at depths ranging from 494 to 550 m. A total of 2110 individuals (766 males and 1344 females) were caught during these monthly surveys. The carapace length (CL) of the males ranged from 12.4 to 22.1 mm, and in females the CL ranged between 11.5 and 24.9 mm. The values of both CL and weight in females consistently exceeded that of males throughout the year. Although ovigerous females were observed throughout the year, the main reproductive period is suggested to be from May to December. In all groups examined, the values of allometric coeffi cient b were less than 3. Estimates of the Von Bertalanffy growth parameters were L¥ = 26.25 mm and k = 0.38 year-1 in females, and L¥ = 23.63 mm and k = 0.49 year-1 in males. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Determining the length-length and length-weight relationships and having access to the formulas on the relationships would enable researchers to indirectly estimate the approximate sizes of the organisms when consumed as prey items by examining one of the appendages found in the gut contents. in order to determine some morphometric characters of the Mediterranean green crab (Carcinus aestuarii Nardo, 1847) inhabiting Homa Lagoon, İzmir Bay, Turkey, crab samples were collected using trammel nets, fyke nets, beach seines, and fence traps in monthly intervals between June 2006 and May 2007. A total of 608 male and 559 female specimens were collected during the sampling period. The largest (in terms of carapace length: CL) female and male were 39.59 mm and 51.63 mm, respectively Morphometric equations for the conversions of length and weight were constructed separately for males, females, and the combined sexes. The equations for carapace width (CW) and right chela width (RChW) for males were found to be RChW = 0.373997 x CW - 3.90059, r² = 0.85. The relationship between carapace width (CW) and wet weight (WW) was determined to be LnCW = 0.3377 LnW + 2.6942, r² = 0.98 for males, LnCW = 0.3424 LnW + 2.6929, r² = 0.99 for females, and LnCW = 0.3361 LnW + 2.7019, r² = 0.99 for both sexes combined. Males were generally bigger than females. The average values of the carapace width for males and females were 44.58 ± 7.34 mm and 29.10 ± 7.07 mm, respectively. A study of the anomuran crustaceans found in Fethiye Bay, on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey, revealed 22 species belonging to 4 families (Diogenidae, Paguridae, Galathaeidae, and Porcellanidae). Of these, 14 species (Pagurus prideaux Leach, 1815, P. forbesii Bell, 1845, P. cheuvreuxi (Bouvier, 1896), P. cuanensis Bell, 1845, P. excavatus (Herbst, 1791), Anapagurus petiti Dechance and Forest, 1962, A. chiroacathus (Lilljeborg, 1856), A. bicorniger A. Milne Edwards and Bouvier, 1892, Dardanus calidus (Risso, 1827), Paguristes syrtensis De Saint Laurent, 1971, Diogenes pugilator (Roux, 1829), Galathea dispersa Bate, 1859, G. bolivari Zariquiey Álvarez, 1950, and Pisidia longimana (Risso, 1816)) were new records for Fethiye Bay, and 5 species (A. chiroacanthus, A. petiti, A. bicorniger, P. cheuvreuxi, and P. prideaux) were new records for the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. In addition, A. chiroacanthus was recorded for the first time from the Levantine Sea. Distribution of the species in the Turkish waters is provided, together with photographs of some of the species. Knowledge about leptostracans from the Mediterranean Sea is still scarce. Examination of samples collected from the Aegean Sea off Turkey and from Cyprus in the eastern Mediterranean Sea revealed new localities and range extensions for 2 species of leptostracans: Nebalia strausi Risso, 1826, and N. kocatasiMoreira, Koçak, and Katagan, 2007. The record of N. kocatasi is the first for Cyprus and for the Levantine Basin. Additional specimens (Nebalia sp. 1 and Nebalia sp. 2) might prove to belong to 2 new species but the lack of material prevents their formal description. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
