Purpose: In competitive sport, classic methods of measuring drug prevalence, such as doping controls or questionnaires, are challenging. Here we describe a novel urine sampling method to measure drug use in athletes. We hypothesize that the prevalence of drug use in ultramarathon runners is measured more accurately with our sampling method than randomized-response questionnaires., Methods: Urine samples and associated demographic data were collected from male participants using blind, automated urinals at the start of ultramarathon races. Various nonprohibited and prohibited substances were subsequently screened. Concomitantly, 2931 male and female runners participating in the same ultramarathons completed an anonymized, randomized-response questionnaire regarding drug use., Results: Among 412 individual urine samples, 205 (49.8%) contained at least one substance, and 16.3% of the samples contained one or more prohibited substances. Substances detected in urine included nonsteroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) (22.1%), acetaminophen (15.5%), opioids (6.6%), diuretics (4.9%), hypnotics (4.4%), glucocorticoids (2.7%), beta-2 agonists (2.2%), cannabinoids (1.9%), and stimulants (1.2%). None of the samples contained erythropoietin-receptor agonists or suspicious testosterone. Drug use was not associated with the participants' characteristics or ranking. Respondents to the questionnaire reported using acetaminophen (13.6%) and NSAID (12.9%); however, no prohibited substances were declared., Conclusions: There was a high prevalence of drug use among male ultramarathon runners, in particular, NSAID and painkillers; however, performance-enhancing drugs were marginally used. Insulin-like growth factor 1 analogues are prohibited in sport for their ability to enhance athletic performance in several sport disciplines. Their detection presents several analytical challenges, mainly due to the minimum required performance limits fixed by the World Anti-Doping Agency. Here, we are presenting analytical workflows to detect IGF-1 and its analogues in different biological matrices. Several off-line immunocapture techniques and protocols were comparatively evaluated. Separation and detection were performed by using standard flow reverse-phase liquid chromatography coupled to a time-of-flight mass spectrometer. The best recoveries were obtained using magnetic beads or pipette tips functionalized with protein A. The analytical workflows were fully validated for qualitative determinations: all the target analytes were clearly distinguishable from the interference of the matrices, with limits of detection and identification in the range of 0.05-0.30 ng/mL in urine and 0.5-2.0 ng/mL in serum/plasma. The extraction efficiency proved to be repeatable (CV% < 10) with recoveries higher than 50%. Intra- and inter-day precision were found to be smaller than 10 and 15%, respectively. The method was successfully applied to the analysis of authentic matrix samples containing the target peptides at the minimum required performance limits, proving that the method developed can be successfully applied to detect and identify IGF-1 analogues for doping control purposes in all the matrices selected. The analytical workflow developed here to detect the target peptides in different matrices can be readily implemented in anti-doping laboratories and has the potential to be adapted for the simultaneous analysis of different similarly sized peptide hormones of doping relevance., (© 2023. We present a novel procedure to monitor the fluctuations of the levels of IGF-1 in capillary blood in the framework of doping control analysis. Being an endogenous hormone, direct methods are not applicable, so the most effective way to detect the intake of the exogenous hormone would be based on the longitudinal monitoring of the athlete. We have therefore followed the individual variability, in four subjects (two males and two females), of the levels of IGF-1 in capillary blood samples collected three times per day for five days, then once a week for at least two months. Analyses were performed by liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry following a bottom-up approach. The whole protocol, from the sample collection to the instrumental analysis, was validated according to the World Anti-Doping Agency's guidelines and ISO17025. The analytical protocol showed to be fit for purpose in terms of sensitivity (LOD 25 ng/mL and LOI 35 ng/mL), selectivity (no interferences were detected at the retention time of IGF-1 and the internal standard), and repeatability (CV<10%). The linearity was confirmed in the range of 50-1000 ng/mL (correlation coefficient R 2 >0.995, with a % relative bias of the experimental concentration of the different calibrators used for the estimation of the linearity lower than 20% for the lowest level and than 15% for the other levels). Stability studies were also performed, also to establish the optimal conditions for transport and storage: samples were stable at 4 °C for up to 72 h and at -20 °C and -80 °C for up to three months. Our preliminary results indicate that, in all subjects, the levels of IGF-1 did not present significant circadian fluctuations and remained stable during the entire period of the study (2-3 months, depending on the subject). This article reports the results obtained from the investigation of the influence of miconazole administration on the physiological fluctuation of the markers of the steroid profile included in the "steroidal module" of the Athlete Biological Passport. Urines collected from male Caucasian subjects before, during, and after either systemic (i.e., oral and buccal) or topical (i.e., dermal) treatment with miconazole were analyzed according to validated procedures based on gas chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS) (to determine the markers of the steroid profile) or liquid chromatography coupled to MS/MS (LC-MS/MS) (to determine miconazole urinary levels). The results indicate that only after systemic administration, the markers of the steroid profile were significantly altered. After oral and buccal administration, we have registered (i) a significant increase of the 5α-androstane-3α,17β-diol/5β-androstane-3α,17β-diol ratio and (ii) a significant decrease of the concentration of androsterone, etiocholanolone, 5β-androstane-3α,17β-diol, and 5α-androstane-3α,17β-diol and of the androsterone/etiocholanolone, androsterone/testosterone, and 5α-androstane-3α,17β-diol/epitestosterone ratios. Limited effects were instead measured after dermal intake. Indeed, the levels of miconazole after systemic administration were in the range of 0.1-12.5 μg/ml, whereas after dermal administration were below the limit of quantification (50 ng/ml). Significant alteration started to be registered at concentrations of miconazole higher than 0.5 μg/ml. These findings were primarily explained by the ability of miconazole in altering the kinetic/efficacy of deglucuronidation of the endogenous steroids by the enzyme β-glucuronidase during the sample preparation process. The increase of both incubation time and amount of β-glucuronidase was demonstrated to be effective countermeasures in the presence of miconazole to reduce the risk of uncorrected interpretation of the results., (© 2021 The Authors. Analytical procedures to detect the misuse of selective androgen receptor modulators in human urine, targeting either the parent drugs and/or their main metabolites, were developed and validated. In detail, 19 target compounds belonging to 9 different chemical classes were considered: arylpropionamide (i.e., andarine (S4), ostarine (S22), S1, S6, S9 and S23), diarylhydantoin (i.e., GLPG0492), indole (i.e., LY2452473, GSK2881078), isoquinoline-carbonyle (i.e., PF-02620414), phenyl-oxadiazole (i.e., RAD140), pyrrolidinyl-benzonitrile (i.e., LGD4033), quinolinone (i.e., LGD2226, LGD3303), steroidal (i.e., Cl-4AS-1, MK0773 and TFM-4AS-1), and tropanol (i.e., AC-262536 and ACP105) derivatives. The metabolites of the target compounds considered were enzymatically synthesized by using human liver microsomes. Sample pre-treatment included enzymatic hydrolysis followed by liquid-liquid extraction at neutral pH. The instrumental analysis was performed by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to either high- or low-resolution mass spectrometry. Validation was performed according to the ISO 17025 and the World Anti-Doping Agency guidelines. The analyses carried out on negative samples confirmed the method's selectivity, not showing any significant interferences at the retention times of the analytes of interest. Detection capability was determined in the range of 0.1-1.0 ng/mL for the screening procedure and 0.2-1.0 ng/mL for the confirmation procedure (except for GLPG0492 and GSK2881078). The recovery was greater than 80 % for all analytes, and the matrix effect was smaller than 35 %. The method also matched the criteria of the World Anti-Doping Agency in terms of repeatability of the relative retention times (CV% < 1.0) and of the relative abundances of the selected ion transitions (performed only in the case of triple quadrupole, CV% < 15), ensuring the correct identification of all the analytes considered. Urine samples containing andarine, ostarine, or LGD4033 were used to confirm the actual applicability of the selected analytical strategies. Twenty-two pharmaceutical formulations containing prednisolone or prednisone commercially available in Italy, Belgium, Spain, Brazil, and India were analyzed through a specific gas chromatography combustion isotope ratio mass spectrometry (GC-C-IRMS) method. All of them showed typical non-endogenous δ 13 C values, except for the Belgian nasal spray, Sofrasolone®, with a less depleted 13 C content (-17.84 ± 0.18‰). Observational studies were performed on two volunteers in therapy with Sofrasolone® to confirm the applicability of the method and to suggest adequate interpretation criteria also in the case of drugs with less negative δ 13 C values. Urine samples were collected before, during, and within the 36 hours after the administration of the spray. Both δ 13 C values and urinary concentrations of prednisolone and prednisone were evaluated. All samples were subjected to an adequate pre-treatment (enzymatic hydrolysis, liquid/liquid extraction, and two sequential HPLC steps) before injection to the GC-C-IRMS instrument, according to the method recently developed and validated in our laboratory. Pregnanediol (PD), tetrahydro-11-deoxycortisol (THS), and pregnanetriol (PT) were selected as endogenous reference compounds (ERC). The excretion profile was estimated through liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method used routinely for the quali-quantitative detection of glucocorticoids. δ 13 C values and urinary levels of prednisolone and prednisone were also determined after the intake of one single vial of Sintredius®, a prednisolone oral formulation with a conventional more negative δ 13 C value (-29.28 ± 0.25‰). This work presents an analytical method for the simultaneous analysis in human urine of 38 pharmacologically active compounds (19 benzodiazepine-like substances, 7 selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, 4 azole antifungal drugs, 5 inhibitors of the phosphodiesterases type 4 and 3 inhibitors of the phosphodiesterase type 5) by liquid-chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry. The above substances classes include both the most common "non banned" drugs used by the athletes (based on the information reported on the "doping control form") and those drugs who are suspected to be performance enhancing and/or act as masking agents in particular conditions. The chromatographic separation was performed by a reverse-phase octadecyl column using as mobile phases acetonitrile and ultra-purified water, both with 0.1% formic acid. The detection was carried out using a triple quadrupole mass spectrometric analyser, positive electro-spray as ionization source and selected reaction monitoring as acquisition mode. Sample pre-treatment consisted in an enzymatic hydrolysis followed by a liquid-liquid extraction in neutral field using tert-butyl methyl-ether. The analytical procedure, once developed, was validated in terms of sensitivity (lower limits of detection in the range of 1-50 ng mL(-1)), specificity (no interferences were detected at the retention time of all the analytes under investigation), recovery (≥60% with a satisfactory repeatability, CV % lower than 10), matrix effect (lower than 30%) and reproducibility of retention times (CV% lower than 0.1) and of relative abundances (CV% lower than 15). The performance and the applicability of the method was evaluated by analyzing real samples containing benzodiazepines (alprazolam, diazepam, zolpidem or zoplicone) or inhibitors of the phosphodiesterases type 5 (sildenafil or vardenafil) and samples obtained incubating two of the phosphodiesterases type 4 studied (cilomilast or roflumilast) with pooled human liver microsomes. The analytical methods developed and applied by the antidoping laboratories have been continuously evolving over the past 50 years, with the aim of keeping pace with the constant evolution of doping strategies. Despite this, the number of adverse analytical tests reported worldwide by the network of the WADA-accredited laboratories still seems to underestimate the actual number of doped athletes. We investigate the most likely causes for this gap between the likely doping rate and the detection of athletes with positive doping tests. We consider laboratory and non-laboratory reasons that contribute to this gap. More specifically, laboratory issues are focused not only on those doping practices that may still be 'invisible' at the time of a doping test, but also on the possible role of non-conventional masking strategies. These include (1) the intake of banned drugs by specific novel drug delivery systems and (2) the coadministration of prohibited and non-prohibited drugs, taking advantage of the capacity of the latter to affect the metabolism, and consequently the detection, of the former. Non-laboratory issues include the lack of a sufficient level of 'intelligent testing', with the result that, even in the cases of doped athletes, the biological samples delivered to the antidoping laboratories for analysis may not contain those target analytes whose detection (and if necessary quantification above a decision limit) constitutes an adverse analytical finding. We present proposals to improve the efficacy of the doping control policies based on the analysis of biological samples and suggest how to constantly keep up with the continuous developments of new forms of doping.

The present study was designed to provide preliminary information on the potential impact of metabolic drug-drug interaction on the effectiveness of doping control strategies currently followed by the anti-doping laboratories to detect the intake of banned agents. In vitro assays based on the use of human liver microsomes and recombinant CYP isoforms were designed and performed to characterize the phase I metabolic profile of the prohibited agent toremifene, selected as a prototype drug of the class of selective oestrogen receptor modulators, both in the absence and in the presence of medicaments (fluconazole, ketoconazole, itraconazole, miconazole, cimetidine, ranitidine, fluoxetine, paroxetine, nefazodone) not included in the World Anti-Doping Agency list of prohibited substances and methods and frequently administered to athletes. The results show that the in vitro model developed in this study was adequate to simulate the in vivo metabolism of toremifene, confirming the results obtained in previous studies. Furthermore, our data also show that ketoconazole, itraconazole, miconazole and nefazodone cause a marked modification in the production of the metabolic products (i.e. hydroxylated and carboxylated metabolites) normally selected by the anti-doping laboratories as target analytes to detect toremifene intake; moderate variations were registered in the presence of fluconazole, paroxetine and fluoxetine; while no significant modifications were measured in the presence of ranitidine and cimetidine. The chromatographic behaviour of 44 polar compounds (23 beta-adrenergic agents, 11 stimulants, 4 narcotics and 6 phenolalkylamines) included in the list of prohibited substances and methods of the World Anti-Doping Agency, has been investigated under hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography conditions by application of different mobile phase compositions (percentage of the organic solvent, type and amount of mobile phase additive and ionic strength) and column temperatures. Detection of analytes was performed by a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer in positive ionization mode and selected reaction monitoring acquisition mode after liquid/liquid extraction. Data collected using as stationary phase type-B silica materials from different producers, showed that the best chromatographic conditions in terms of peak shape, selectivity and chromatographic retention were obtained using an initial percentage of acetonitrile of 90%, a column temperature of 35 °C, a mobile phase pH of 4.5 and ammonium acetate (5 mM) and acetic acid (0.1%) as mobile phase additives. The selected chromatographic conditions were used to develop screening and confirmation analytical procedures to detect polar compounds in human urine for antidoping purpose. The developed methods were validated in terms of specificity, matrix effect, linearity, precision, accuracy, sensitivity, robustness and repeatability of retention times and relative ion abundances. A screening procedure specifically developed for the detection of saccharides and polyalcohols in human urine in the framework of doping control analysis is presented. The proposed method, set-up, and validated to detect the abuse of dextran, hydroxyethyl starch and mannitol as a doping practice in sport, involves only one enzymatic hydrolysis step and the direct injection into a liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) system. The chromatographic conditions were optimized to allow the efficient separation of compounds with the same molecular weight. Good linearity (R(2) 0.990-0.995) and reproducibility of relative retention times (CV% lower than 1) and of relative abundances of characteristic ion transitions (CV% lower than 10) were obtained. The lower limits of detection and quantification were in the range of 30-100 µg/ml. Since the analytes studied are present also in non-doping products (e.g. in fruit as well as in food products and drugs additives), the developed method was also used to establish a range of reference urinary concentrations: 600 doping control samples and 30 samples from volunteers not using any medication were considered. While the hydrolysis products (isomaltose and maltose hydroxyl-ethylated), used as specific markers for the detection of dextran and hydroxyethyl starch abuse, were not detected in urine; mannitol was present in all urines in a concentration range of 30-1200 µg/ml. Since no criteria of positivity for mannitol has been established yet, the results obtained in this study could be considered, in combination with those of previous researches, as a starting point to fix a threshold value for doping control purpose., (Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.)

The present study was performed to investigate the influence of the intake of selective oestrogen receptor modulators on the urinary endogenous steroids profile. For this purpose the circadian variability of luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, testosterone, 5α-androstan-3α,17β-diol, 5β-androstan-3α,17β-diol, epitestosterone, 4-androstenedione, androsterone and etiocholanolone were measured on eight subjects (four males and four females) by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and chemiluminescent immunometric assay techniques before and after oral administration of multiple doses of either tamoxifen (80 mg for 2 days) or toremifene (120 mg for 2 days) or clomiphene (100 mg for 2 days). The individual baseline variability of the steroids studied was set up by collecting the urine samples every 3 h, for 3 days prior to the treatment; whereas the evaluation of the effects of the oral administration of multiple doses of selective oestrogen receptor modulators on the steroid urinary profile was assessed by collecting urine samples every three hours for at least five days from the first administration. The results of our measurements showed that, only in male subjects, the relative urinary concentrations of testosterone, epitestosterone and 4-androstenedione were significantly altered generally after the second day of drug administration. While no significant effects were recorded in both sexes on the luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, androsterone, etiocholanolone, 5α-androstan-3α,17β-diol and 5β-androstan-3α,17β-diol urinary levels and on testosterone/epitestosterone, 5α-androstan-3α,17β-diol/5β-androstan-3α,17β-diol and androsterone/etiocholanolone ratios., (Copyright © 2011 Elsevier Inc. A specific, sensitive and rapid analytical procedure based on capillary electrophoresis with UV/Vis detection at 405 and 415 nm was developed and validated to detect human haemoglobin and haemoglobin-based oxygen carriers (Hemopure®, Oxyglobin® and Polyheme®) in blood samples collected for doping control. The electrophoretic separation, based on capillary dynamic coating, was achieved in less than 10 min. The effects of capillary temperature, injection conditions and initial ramping were investigated. The optimum separation voltage was 25 kV with a capillary temperature of 20 °C, initial ramping of 1 kV/s and an injection pressure of 0.5 psi for 10 s. The removal of haptoglobin using anti-human haptoglobin antibody prior to the analysis was mandatory to increase the specificity of the analysis. Sufficient resolution between endogenous haemoglobin variants and the three haemoglobin-based oxygen carriers here investigated was obtained, thus allowing discrimination between a normal haemolysed sample and a sample in which Oxyglobin®, Hemopure® or Polyheme® is present. In the present study, toremifene urinary excretion studies were evaluated in order to examine main metabolic reactions and to select target metabolites in doping control analysis. Urine samples from three female subjects were collected every 3 h for at least 15 days after the oral administration of a single dose of Fareston® (60 mg). The elemental compositions of the compounds detected were determined by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry using a time-of-flight system with accurate mass measurement. More detailed structure elucidation was obtained by monitoring the presence or absence of structure-specific ions, using product ion scan and neutral loss acquisition modes, whereas the metabolites urinary profiles were evaluated in selected reaction monitoring acquisition mode. The results showed that the main routes of phase-I modifications involved carboxylation of the chlorinated side chain, N-demethylation and hydroxylation in different positions. Fifteen metabolites were found in all subjects studied, most of them were detected for more than 10 days in the free, glucuronide and sulphate fractions, with a maximum of excretion generally after 9-22 and 34-47 h from drug administration. These metabolites can be divided in two groups: metabolites with the characteristic chlorine isotope pattern and metabolites without the characteristic chlorine isotope pattern. The most abundant and long-term compounds were the carboxylated metabolites followed by the hydroxylated metabolites. Their product ions originating after collision-induced dissociation were observed to occur prevalently in the dimethylaminoethoxy and in the chlorinated side chains. These structure-specific ions were used to design screening and confirmation procedures to positively identify toremifene administration in doping control analysis.

In this contribution we described a fast and efficient method for the liquid/liquid extraction from human urine of different classes of drugs, included in the list of prohibited substances published every year by the World Anti-doping Agency, using microwave irradiation. Liquid/liquid extraction was conducted in a temperature controlled single beam microwave oven equipped with an extraction unit and closed vessels. The effects of microwave power and time on the liquid/liquid extraction process were investigated utilizing different organic solvents. The optimum power was found to be 600W (generating a temperature of 70 degrees C) with an incubation time of 30-60s for the most thermolable constituents such as triamcinolone, prednisolone, chlorthiazide, chlorthalidone, epi-trembolone and oxandrolone, and 1020W (generating a temperature of 150 degrees C) with an incubation time of 30-60s for the other compounds considered in this study. The effectiveness of this approach was evaluated by GC-MS (anabolic steroids, beta2-agonists and narcotics) and by LC-MS/MS (diuretics, glucocorticoids and beta-blockers) analyzing more than 20 different urine samples spiked with the compounds considered in this study. The results showed that the effect of microwave irradiation on the liquid/liquid extraction process was very remarkable: the total sample preparation time can be shortened by 9min compared to the traditional method (30-60s instead of 10min); furthermore, a significant increase in the recovery was recorded for specific compounds such as terbutaline and several diuretics. In addition to the above the repeatability of the extraction recoveries, the limits of detection and the matrix interferences were comparable with the reference methods, presently accredited under the ISO17025, followed by the World Anti-doping Agency accredited anti-doping laboratory of Rome.

This paper presents a capillary electrophoresis method, developed for the detection, in human urine, of beta-adrenergic agents and phenolalkylamines. The electrophoretic separation is achieved in less than 10 min and is based on the use of CEofix kit, for the dynamic capillary coating. The effects of accelerator buffer pH and separation voltage were investigated. The optimum buffer pH was found to be 2.5 for beta2-agonists and 6.2 for beta-blockers and phenoalkylamines with a separation voltage of 15 kV. Urine samples spiked with the compounds here studied were treated according to the standard procedure (SPE and evaporation to dryness) and analyzed by CE interfaced with an UV diode-array, set at 195 and 210 nm. The quantitative validation results, obtained analyzing samples at three different concentrations, show a good precision of peak areas that do not exceed 5% for intra-day assays and 10% for inter-day assays. Good linearity (r(2) > 0.995) was obtained within the 50-500 ng/mL concentration range. The qualitative validation data show a relative migration times (MTs) variation lower than 1%. The analytes were clearly distinguishable in urine, with LOD and LOQ in the range of 10-80 and 40-100 ng/mL, respectively.

Objective: To describe serum and urinary hormones, androgens metabolites and testosterone/epitestosterone ratio profiles after testosterone administration in male hypogonadal volunteers, and to evaluate their possible usefulness in detecting doping with testosterone in treated hypogonadal athletes., Design: Controlled open label design vs placebo; pharmacokinetic study., Participants: Ten male volunteers affected by severe hypogonadism (serum testosterone <2.31 ng/ml)., Interventions and Main Outcome Measures: Serum and urinary parameters were evaluated, by radioimmunoassay and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, before and at different time points for 7/3 weeks after a single administration of testosterone enanthate (250 mg) or placebo, respectively., Results: As partially known, testosterone administration increased, with great individual variability, urinary concentrations of glucuronide testosterone, androsterone, etiocholanolone, 5alpha-androstane- 3alpha,17beta-diol, 5beta-androstane-3alpha,17beta-diol, testosterone/ epitestosterone and testosterone/LH ratios; and decreased epitestosterone and 5alpha-androstane-3beta,17beta-diol/5beta-androstane- 3alpha,17beta-diol ratio. Serum testosterone and dihydrotestosterone increased in all volunteers, and concentrations higher than the upper reference limits were observed in many volunteers until 2 weeks after testosterone administration., Conclusion: Whereas the observed prolonged hyperandrogenism partially limited data interpretation, the report ed characteristics of variation of urinary parameters might be used to suspect testosterone misuse in hypogonadal athletes treated with testosterone enanthate. In this sense, while the actual threshold for tes tos terone/epites tos ter one ratio was confirmed to be of reduced usefulness, we suggest a contemporary evaluation of whole urinary androgen metabolites profile and serum androgens, at specific time points after testosterone enanthate administration. Moreover, an adequate tailoring of treatment, to avoid transitory hyperandrogenism, is highly advisable. Further studies on strategies for detecting doping with testosterone in hypogonadal athletes are warranted.

This paper describes a fast gas chromatographic/mass spectrometric (GC/MS) screening method for the detection, in urine, of 36 xenobiotics (30 synthetic anabolic steroids, four narcotics, one diuretic and one stimulant) excreted free or as glucuro-conjugates in urine and detectable as trimethylsilyl (TMS) derivatives. These drugs (and/or their urinary metabolites) can be simultaneously extracted by a single liquid/liquid separation step, at alkaline pH, after enzymatic hydrolysis with beta-glucuronidase and then assayed as TMS derivatives by GC/MS using electron ionisation (EI) and single ion monitoring (SIM) acquisition mode. The total time needed for the GC run is less than 8 min. Good reproducibility of the retention times (CV% <1) and the relative abundances of the diagnostic fragment ions (CV% <10) was observed for all target analytes. The sensitivity of the method is sufficient to match the requirements of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) for the accredited laboratories, with limits of detection (LODs) that are lower than the corresponding WADA minimum required performance limits (MRPLs) for all target compounds., (Copyright (c) 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.)
