Abstract

The Northern Adriatic Sea is the largest semi enclosed continental shelf area in the Mediterranean Sea. It receives approximately one third of the Mediterranean runoff and is one of the most productive regions in the Mediterranean Sea [1]. It plays also a vital role in the Mediterranean circulation by producing, during the winter, the deep water for the Eastern Mediterranean, the North Adriatic Bottom Water (NAdBW).
