The present study analyzes the offshoring network constructed from the information contained in the Panama Papers, characterizing worldwide regions and countries as well as their intra- and inter-relationships. The Panama Papers 2016 divulgence is the largest leak of offshoring and tax avoidance documentation. The document leak, with a volume content of approximately 2.6 terabytes, involves more than two hundred thousand enterprises in more than two hundred countries. From this information, the offshore connections of individuals and companies are constructed and aggregated using their countries of origin. The top offshore financial regions and countries of the network are identified, and their intra- and inter-relationship are mapped and described. Sport event studies have demonstrated that relevant stakeholders must share objectives and coordinate efforts to leverage a large-scale sport event to secure positive legacies. However, the challenging and complex task of collaboration between networks of diverse organizational stakeholders to secure legacies has received little scholarly attention. In this conceptual paper, the authors explore, through a political economy lens, differences between the political economies of sports and sport events pertaining to mass sport participation legacies. The authors focus on the mesolevel and consider how divergences in political economy elements—structure and context, stakeholders and ideas/incentives, and bargaining processes—influence the likelihood of mass sport participation legacies from large-scale sport events. The authors suggest a need for event legacy stakeholders to engage more meaningfully with the complexities surrounding securing mass sport participation legacies. In addition, they provide pragmatic, actionable implications for policy and practice to assist stakeholders in addressing the challenges they face to maximize legacy outcomes.

The authors show the need and some existing opportunities for analysis of non-traditional data sources to obtain a complete and more relevant picture of industries spatial development. The research methodology includes the use of text mining for economic and geographical studies. The relevance of the research is determined by insufficient completeness of official statistical data, cheapening of relevant information processing technologies and abundance of large text data sources in open access. The article discusses the role of the pulp and paper industry (as a key part of the timber industry) in economic and spatial development of modern Russia. The authors identify main trends in the economic and spatial development of the pulp and paper industry of European Russia, draw the conclusions on the expected industry trends and give recommendations for strategic management decisions to respond to industry challenges. The authors claim that the industry needs liberalization and stabilization, primarily through moratoriums on policy changes. The role of the use of big data, and in particular of text mining in economic and geographical research for reasonable and objective conclusions formation that can be used to make timely and balanced management decisions in the timber industry and the pulp and paper industry, is emphasized.

This article is an expansion of Anastasov, T.’s master’s thesis (2019) and attempts to give a clear definition and taxonomy of the Data-Driven Business Models (DDBMs) as well as illustrate data challenges and opportunities that come along with this. These definitions were cross-analyzed with 3 cases from the Asia-Pacific region to deliver concrete insights and inspiration for Western companies to reinvent their businesses in the next 5 years. A comparison between Data-Driven and Data-Centric models was given as well, not previously analyzed in the thesis, as a view on the current state-of-the-art data business models.

Today Cultural Creative Industries are at the core of the European identity, recognised as an indispensable driver of growth and jobs and cherished as facilitator of innovation throughout the economy. Because of the “Coronavirus” lock-up measurements this major European motor is stalling. First data from the CCI across Europe, provided by approximately 7.000 survey participants, indicate that the shutdown is not merely a pause of economic activities which will continue as they were before stopped. The governments lock-down because of the COVID-19 virus turned an economic slump into a system crisis: While around 60% of those surveyed have already experienced or anticipate a drop in sales of over 30%, numerous companies point out that they expect significantly higher failures in the future. Due to the design of the study and the bias of the respondents the estimated magnitude, still to be regarded as a conservative assessment, amounts to worrying numbers: CCIs from having an it’s a 5.3% share of the total European Gross Value Added (GVA), (Doerflinger 2016) expect to lose a sum of €273 Bn in turnover until the end of 2020. Based on this estimation the ECBNetwork concludes that the critical time where the crisis starts to affect the European creative sector spans from beginning of April to the beginning of June. This indicates a tight timeframe for governments and European measures to be taken to avoid a complete collapse of the European creative industries sector. Given this system crisis of Cultural Creative Industries, Europe's societies, cities and economies, are endangered. CCI turn noise to music, letters to poetry, stones to architectures, and places into venues for diverse cultures and platform of the freedom of expressions. CCI are the base for free press, open society and citizen controlled democracy. CCI are innovators and change makers for the future of smart cities and green economy. If CCI are stalling, the Europe we know today will suffer a heart attack. Given the severity of this European crisis ECBN issues this white paper with four scenarios where the CCI might stand by the end 2020 and from where we may have to restart the CCI. This white paper aims to raise awareness that the restart of the Cultural Creative Industries is central to the future of European society. It calls on the European policy makers to engage in a vigorous debate for the best ways to restart the Cultural Creative Industries in a sustainable, innovative way to turn this historical system crisis to a once in a century chance to move forward to a more sustainable and inclusive Society than before. &nbsp

This paper analyzes the possible impacts of the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on the transport sector and specifically on the railways. It aims at investigating how the sector should approach the “new normal.” The pandemic had repercussions not only on the interaction between producers and consumers but also on the environment, therefore changing the supply chain. The health crisis halted passengers’ mobility and limited air and sea freight capacity significantly, consequently producing a positive impact on the environment. However, the low production trend of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission is expected to reverse once containment measures are lifted. Transport will have an important role in the predicted rebound effect of GHG emissions; thus, the development of green new mobility is essential. In light of these aspects, this study argues that a new resilient paradigm of mobility must be developed for future health emergencies which meets environmental demands. This paper introduces the five “R”s—resilience, return, reimagination, reform, and research—as the necessary steps the rail sector will need to address to better continue to provide services throughout future crises. In particular, the paper highlights new avenues for research which can play an essential role in enhancing rail competitiveness and resilience within future crises. In conclusion, this paper reminds that the pandemic might be considered as a testing ground for upcoming crises and an opportunity to introduce the discussion about a new green and public paradigm of mobility.

Urban agglomerations - where innovation and knowledge generation activities take place - are in a tough competition to become a major player in the global knowledge economy. It is claimed that soft measures - namely quality of life and place - help in fostering and attracting talent, and consequently draw investment to these urban localities. This paper aims to scrutinise the role of soft measures in supporting urban competitiveness through a critical review of the scholarly literature. The findings shed some light on whether there is a symbiotic relationship between place quality and urban competitiveness. The paper also points out directions for future investigations.
