As China reaffirms its commitments to limit the climate change risk and improve air quality, a combination of new policy and technology opportunities is presenting itself. A national emission trading scheme (ETS) begun in 2017 and is showing great promise, creating decentralized incentives for cost effective pollution mitigation. At the same time, sustained energy sector innovation is driving the costs of renewable electric power generation below those of fossil fuel substitutes. Early economic evidence of ETS measured pollution reductions, but has not addressed important economy-wide net benefits. This paper focuses on technology and energy cost savings and is the first to account for three multiplier effects—shifting consumption patterns, job growth, and the benefits of induced productivity growth—that would result from accelerated renewable electricity deployment in China. Results from a dynamic recursive computable general equilibrium model for 2017 to 2030 show that expanding renewable deployment can interact with the ETS to slash GHG emissions, as well as energy costs, stimulating significant long-term economic growth. These results suggest that China should accelerate its clean energy transition, not only for the air-quality and climate benefits, but to fulfill the energy sector's potential to promote innovation, employment, and economic growth. In the extant literature, there are numerous discussions on China's environmental sustainability. However, few scholars have considered renewable energy consumption and trade policy simultaneously to debate environmental sustainability. Therefore, this paper attempts to examine how renewable and non-renewable energy consumption, bio-capacity, economic growth, and trade policy dynamically affect the ecological footprint (a proxy for environmental sustainability). Using the data from 1971 to 2017 and employing the auto-regressive distributed lag model to perform an empirical analysis, the results demonstrate that renewable energy consumption and trade policy are conducive to environmental sustainability because of their negative impacts on the ecological footprint. However, the results also indicate that bio-capacity, non-renewable energy consumption, and economic growth are putting increasing pressure on environmental sustainability due to their positive impacts on the ecological footprint. Moreover, to determine the direction of causality between the highlighted variables, the Yoda-Yamamoto causality test was conducted. The results suggest a two-way causal relationship between renewable energy consumption and ecological footprint, non-renewable energy consumption and ecological footprint, and economic growth and ecological footprint. Renewable energy has been considered as an effective way to solve environmental pollution and energy crisis in China. However, the development of renewable energy sector depends on economic growth and financial issues. Thus, it is significant to study the relationships of these three indicators in China. Using ARDL-PMG model, this paper explores the long-run and short-run impacts of economic growth and financial development on renewable energy consumption based on the panel data during period 1997–2017 at national and regional levels of China. The long-run relationships indicate that for China as a whole and western China, economic growth stimulates renewable energy consumption while financial development impacts it negatively. However, the short-run relationships show that economic growth and financial development influence renewable energy consumption negatively and positively, respectively. Moreover, we employ the Granger causality test to study the existence and direction of causality among variables. The causality test results display that the unidirectional causality relationships exist from financial development to renewable energy consumption for China as a whole and eastern China. Meanwhile, economic growth unidirectionally causes renewable energy consumption in China as a whole, eastern and western China. The global shift to renewable energy is conducive to carbon reduction, but its impact on the economy is still uncertain. Unlike existing research focusing on the effect of domestic renewable energy (RE), this paper considers the global RE connection among countries and examines the impact of global RE development on economic growth (EG) using China as a sample. In addition, we apply a novel wavelet-based quantile-on-quantile method, which can estimate the local influence of the α-quantile of global RE on the β-quantile of the EG in different periods. The finding shows that the upper quantiles of RE promote EG , and this effect is greater at the upper quantiles of EG in the medium- and long-term. This is mainly because China plays a leading role in RE development and has an advantage in exporting RE -related products with the development of global RE. The finding proves the growth effect, indicating that RE is a blessing for China's EG. However, in the short term, a higher level of global RE development impedes China's EG due to high upfront costs of RE production, fierce competition from other countries, and insufficient energy supply when significant investment shifts from non-renewable energy to RE. China's economy has flourished since reform and opening up. At the same time, China's ability to attract foreign investment in the world continued to increase. However, with the rapid development of the economy, China's energy crisis and environmental pollution have been continuously deepened, exposing increasingly serious problems in the energy consumption structure. As a critical mean to address the environmental problems and achieve sustainable development, the production and utilization of renewable energy resources is particularly critical. This paper aims to investigate the relationship amongst renewable energy consumption, foreign direct investment and gross domestic product in 31 Chinese provinces from 2000 to 2015. Specifically, the unit root test, cointegration test, vector error-correction model, impulse response function analysis, and Granger causality test are employed for the estimations. The empirical results indicate that there is a long-term and stable equilibrium relationship between gross domestic product per capita, foreign direct investment per capita, and renewable energy consumption per capita. Understanding the causality between energy consumption, carbon emissions and economic growth is helpful for policymakers to formulate energy, environmental and economic policies. For the first time, based on nonlinear dynamics, this paper employs multispatial convergent cross mapping (CCM) to revisit the energy-carbon-economy causation for China, India and the G7 countries using both aggregate data and per capita data. The findings indicate that there are significant differences between developing countries and developed countries. A bidirectional nexus between energy consumption, carbon emissions and economic growth is found in China and India, but various causal relationships are identified in the G7 countries, including bidirectional, unidirectional and neutral nexus. The results confirm that the decoupling phenomenon is common in most G7 countries. By leveraging a variety of samples and a new approach, this study provides new evidence for policy authorities to formulate country-specific policies to obtain better environmental quality while achieving sustainable economic growth. Abstract This paper examines the relationship between hydroelectricity consumption and economic growth in China, while controlling for fossil fuel consumption, financial development, capital, institutional quality and globalization and its components for the period, 1970–2014. We have employed the Bayer and Hanck, (2013) combined cointegration test to examine the long-run relationships between those variables as well as the autoregressive distributed lag method with structural breaks as a robustness check. The empirical findings demonstrate a long-run relationship between those variables. Hydroelectricity consumption, fossil fuel consumption, capital, financial development and globalization and its components have a positive influence on GDP in China. The findings also provide predominant evidence on the long-run feedback hypothesis between the variables. The findings suggest that policies should be implemented to increase the role hydropower in the energy mix for sustainable economic growth in the country. This paper explores the optimization scheme of carbon trading in China based on a novel energy-saving and emission-reduction (ESER) system with carbon price constraints. With the aid of nonlinear dynamics theory, the dynamics behavior of the novel system is discussed. Genetic algorithm and back propagation neural network is used to identify the quantitative coefficients according to the statistical data of the second period in European Union (EU). Taking the actual situation in EU for instance, the variables which are sensitive to carbon trading are detailedly researched. Enlightened by the EU’s experience, an optimal road of China ’ s carbon trading is put forward. The results show that carbon emissions could be controlled by carbon trading. The investment to carbon trading hampers economic growth in the near future, and ESER technical progress is negatively correlated with carbon trading in the long run. Demand and supply relationship is closely related to carbon price, both are the important issues in carbon trading system. Abstract: This paper analyzed the interactions among China’s economic growth and its energy consumption, air emissions and air environmental protection investment during 2000–2007. Conventional energy and emergy are applied to quantify energy consumption and emissions’ impact, respectively. The five indicators based on money, energy and emergy, including ratio of nonrenewable energy to renewable energy (RNR), energy use per unit GDP (EUPG), environmental cost per unit GDP (ECPG), impact of emissions per unit energy consumption (IEPEC), and environmental benefit per unit environmental protection investment (EBPEI), are presented to depict the relationships among economic growth and energy consumption and impact of air emissions and air environmental protection investment. The results show that energy consumption rapidly rises with China’s fast economic growth; however, energy efficiency and environmental loading intensity from energy consumption are reduced simultaneously but their improvements fall far behind economic growth rate. Impact of air emissions, mainly composed of impact of emissions on human health (especially dust), is slightly decreased. The performance of air environmental protection investment is obviously declined in the study period. Generally speaking, the conflict among economy, energy and air environment protection is slightly mitigated but still acute due to great dependence of China’s economy on fossil energy and inefficient environmental protection measures. This paper attempts to explore the effect of energy construction adjustment on the energy-saving and emission-reduction (ESER) dynamical evolution system. Based on the nonlinear dynamics theory, the dynamic behavior of the novel system is discussed. The quantitative coefficients of the actual system are identified with the aid of genetic algorithm-back propagation neural network. Scenario analysis results show that, energy construction adjustment could effectively control energy intensity. To clarify this further, an example of 4D ESER system with new energy constraints is demonstrated. Investigation results show that, government control can effectively control energy intensity, while brings inhibiting impact on economic growth and people’s livelihood. Economic investment is the key variable affecting energy construction adjustment and ESER, the ESER system will crash when the investment is too low. Energy construction adjustment could effectively reduce energy intensity. However, the ESER system will also crash if the development of energy construction adjustment is too fast. The interesting thing is that the ESER system should be pulled back to steady state as the investment getting bigger. Energy intensity could be controlled in expected range by taking adequate measures. Researches revealed that there has been existed a relatively stable and positive relationship between economic growth and electricity consumption. However, the inconsistency between them appeared in 2008. Therefore, it is urgent to analyze whether the GDP in China is cheated and to seek the underlying reasons contributed to the deviation. Anhui province is selected to act our study area. In order to explore the underlying reasons of the deviation between economic growth and electricity consumption, a multivariable regression models is established in this paper. Empirical results are as follows: (1) real GDP, industrial structure (IS), heating degrees days (HDD), cooling degree days (CDD), investment in fixed assets (IF) are all positive factors for the consumption of electricity; (2) IS is the major contributor to raising the consumption of electricity, followed by IF, CDD, HDD, and GDP; (3) energy intensity (EI) and financial development (FD) are negative factors, when the value of EI increase 1.0%, the consumption of electricity will decrease 7.4%; (4) if the electricity consumption caused by other factors except GDP is eliminated, the deviation would almost shrink; (5) the real growth rate of GDP of Anhui province is authentic. Following several decades of rapid economic growth, China has become the largest energy consumer and the greatest emitter of CO 2 in the world. Given the complex development situation faced by contemporary China, Chinese policymakers now confront the dual challenge of reducing energy use while continuing to foster economic growth. This study posits that a better understanding of the relationship between economic growth, energy consumption, and CO 2 emissions is necessary, in order for the Chinese government to develop the energy saving and emission reduction strategies for addressing the impacts of climate change. This paper investigates the cointegrating, temporally dynamic, and casual relationships that exist between economic growth, energy consumption, and CO 2 emissions in China, using data for the period 1990–2012. The study develops a comprehensive conceptual framework in order to perform this analysis. The results of cointegration tests suggest the existence of long-run cointegrating relationship among the variables, albeit with short dynamic adjustment mechanisms, indicating that the proportion of disequilibrium errors that can be adjusted in the next period will account for only a fraction of the changes. Further, impulse response analysis (which describes the reaction of any variable as a function of time in response to external shocks) found that the impact of a shock in CO 2 emissions on economic growth or energy consumption was only marginally significant. Finally, Granger casual relationships were found to exist between economic growth, energy consumption, and CO 2 emissions; specifically, a bi-directional causal relationship between economic growth and energy consumption was identified, and a unidirectional causal relationship was found to exist from energy consumption to CO 2 emissions. The findings have significant implications for both academics and practitioners, warning of the need to develop and implement long-term energy and economic policies in order to effectively address greenhouse effects in China, thereby setting the nation on a low-carbon growth path. This paper mainly investigates the relationship among energy consumption, carbon emissions and economic growth in China from 1952 to 2012. First, we implement unit root and cointegration analysis to test the stationary. Furthermore, we analyze the mutual influence among energy consumption, carbon emissions and economic growth through Granger causality analysis. Next, we also conduct static and dynamic regression analysis on the determinants of carbon emissions and economic growth. Last, we predict the future influence of different energy consumption on carbon emissions and economic growth. We find that coal has dominant impact on economic growth and carbon emissions. The aim of this paper is to investigate the relationship between renewable energy consumption and economic growth in China for the period 1977–2011. Autoregressive Distributed Lag approach (ARDL) to cointegration and Johansen cointegration techniques are employed by including intermittent variables namely carbon dioxide emissions and labor. We also employed Granger causality test in order to determine the direction of the causality among the variables. The results show that there is a bi-directional long term causality between renewable energy consumption and economic growth. This finding implies that growing economy in China is propitious for the development of renewable energy sector which in turn helps to boost economic growth. We also find that labor influences renewable energy consumption in the short term. However, there is no evidence of long or short run causality between carbon emissions and renewable energy consumption. This implies that actual level of renewable energy in China is still insignificant and not considerably exploited in order to contribute to the mitigation of carbon dioxide emissions. The residential energy consumption in China shows diversity and complexity in space. This paper aims to investigate the spatial pattern and evolution trends of four kinds of residential energy consumption (electricity, coal, oil, and natural gas) through gravity center modeling and standard deviational ellipse modeling. Further, their relations to economic growth are probed by using the coupling and coordination degree model. Panel data at the provincial level in China are collected from 2000 to 2019. Our results show that the most drastic movement trend of gravity centers is coal, natural gas, followed by oil, whereas electricity moved slightly in space. Further, the standard deviational ellipse of electricity exhibits relatively stable patterns than the other three residential energy consumption during the study period. In addition, the coupling coordination degree between residential energy consumption and the economic growth is examined, and the results indicate that the total residential electricity consumption shows the highest coupling coordination degree, followed by residential gas, oil, and coal. It demonstrates lower coupling coordination degrees in rural areas than in urban areas in the total and sectoral residential energy consumption. In sum, several policy implications can be demonstrated based on our findings, i.e., the development of electricity consumption in the residential energy structure may improve the energy stability in space in China, and ensuring access to electricity should be taken into further consideration in the development of residential energy improvement to achieve a better coordination level to economic development. This paper quantitatively measures the labor productivity dispersion index of 30 provincial-level political regions (excluding Tibet) in mainland China from 2006 to 2018 based on industrial employment and output share data. Based on clarifying each region's economic variability, a spatial panel model is used to examine regional economic growth and labor productivity dispersions' effects on energy intensity. It was found that energy intensity in China is significantly spatially correlated. There is a clear gap between the share of output and the share of employment in China's three industries where labor productivity has deviated. The highest index of labor productivity dispersion is found in the western region, followed by the central region, with the lowest in the eastern region. Although, China's economic growth has had a significant negative impact on energy intensity, the current stage of China's economic development model is able to gradually achieve efficient energy use. However, the dispersion of labor productivity is not conducive to the improvement of energy factor allocation efficiency, and rationalization of industrial structure and employment structure transformation are urgently needed. Under the downward pressure of the economy, China's extensive economic growth that relies on factor input is difficult to sustain. Scientific analysis of the industrial restructuring and energy consumption has become the key to realizing China's economic growth from high-speed to high-quality. Based on the fully-modified least square method and panel vector error correction model, this paper explores the equilibrium relationship and Granger causality among the industrial restructuring, energy consumption and economic growth at aggregated and disaggregated levels. The results show that: (1) The effect of industrial structure rationalization on economic growth is higher than that of industrial structure upgrading. When emphasizing industrial structure upgrade, the more reliable industrial policy to achieve China's sustainable economic growth is to pay attention to the industrial structure rationalization, especially in western China. Developing energy from renewable sources and modernizing the energy system are critical components of China's efforts to combat climate change. Policymakers and authorities have made significant attempts to bring them. However, one of the major impediments to China's energy revolution is financial limitations, which are inextricably linked to the country's economic growth. The present research paper intends to investigate the relationship between economic growth and sustainable financial development on the use of energy from renewable sources in both the short and long run in the context of China. To achieve this, the researchers have utilized the panel data consisting of 10 years from 2011 to 2020. When compared to cross-sectional and time-series data samples, the panel data model offers many benefits. For starters, the panel data includes information on the passage of time and the cross-sectional area. Another benefit of using panel-data models with a larger degree of freedom is that they provide more stable and reliable estimates across short periods across cross-sections. In the case of the short run, there is a positive relationship between economic and financial development and the use of energy from renewable sources in the context of all of China. While in the case of long-term effects, the results indicate the adverse impact of financial development on the use of energy from renewable sources in the western regions of China. These results were deduced using the causality test Granger proposed to determine the path of the causal relationship and the direction of the relationship between the variables. These results indicated that the relationship between economic and financial development in east China was unidirectional, and the nature of the underlying relationship was causal. Meanwhile, in east and west China, economic development in China as a whole has been unidirectionally increasing energy from renewable sources. Abstract: This paper analyzes the interactions among China''s economic growth and energy consumption and emissions during 1978–2007. Conventional energy and emergy are applied to quantify energy consumption and emissions’ impact respectively. Several indicators, based on emergy, energy and monetary units, are applied to depict the relationships among economic growth and energy consumption and emissions’ impact. The results show that energy consumption and emissions’ impact rise simultaneously. Therein, nonrenewable energy resources possess absolute share in total energy consumption and undertake primary responsibility for increasing emissions’ impact, and NH3–N in wastewater leads to the most emissions’ impact on environment. Energy mix and energy efficiency and pollution control make some achievements, but their improvements fall far behind economic growth rate. As a result, the structure of China''s economy has been obviously optimized; however, the improvement of the relationship between China''s economy, energy and environment is far behind that of its economic structure in this period. Therefore, China will continue to face huge pressure on resources and environment its rapid economic growth brings about in future. Those study results imply that enhancing energy efficiency, optimizing economic structure and strengthening pollution control will still be the main tasks for China''s governments in future. Abstract: This paper uses multivariate co-integration Granger causality tests to investigate the correlations between carbon dioxide emissions, energy consumption and economic growth in China. Some researchers have argued that the adoption of a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions and energy consumption as a long term policy goal will result in a closed-form relationship, to the detriment of the economy. Abstract: The dependence on foreign trade increased sharply in china, and therefore Chinese economy is obviously export-oriented. The Global Financial Crisis will impact the Chinese economic growth violently. Chinese government has recently adopted some effective measures to fight against the Global Financial Crisis. The most important measure is the 4 trillion Yuan ($586 billion) stimulus plan which was announced on November 9, 2008. This paper discusses the influence on energy consumption and economic growth of Global Financial Crisis and the stimulus plan against it by input–output analysis. The results show that the fall of exports caused by the Global Financial Crisis will lead to a decrease of 7.33% in GDP (Gross Domestic Production) and a reduction of 9.21% in energy consumption; the stimulus plan against the Global Financial Crisis will lead to an increase of 4.43% in economic growth and an increase of 1.83% in energy consumption; In the Global Financial Crisis, energy consumption per unit GDP will fall in China. This paper investigates the existence and direction of Granger causality between economic growth, energy consumption, and carbon emissions in China, applying a multivariate model of economic growth, energy use, carbon emissions, capital and urban population. Empirical results for China over the period 1960–2007 suggest a unidirectional Granger causality running from GDP to energy consumption, and a unidirectional Granger causality running from energy consumption to carbon emissions in the long run. Evidence shows that neither carbon emissions nor energy consumption leads economic growth. The present research aims to conduct a systemic review on Renewable Energy, Economic Growth and Economic Development and look for links between the papers published between 2008 and May 2021. Using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) methodology, it was possible to reach a sample of 111 articles selected by Web of Science and a sample of 199 academic articles selected by Scopus in that specific period. The analysis of the group of Renewable and Non-renewable Energy Consumption, Economic Growth and Economic Development shows that most of the articles published in this subsample use the quantitative methodology in economic sciences. The results indicate that research on the subject has a growing trend and that most of the articles are post-2015 publications. In addition, China has been the leading nation in published works. The journal Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews is considered the most relevant in this category, and Sustainability has the most publications. Finally, a research gap was identified to be explored, lacking studies aimed at understanding the consumption of renewable energies and economic development and studies that focus on renewable energies and economic growth in less developed economies. Abstract: The greenhouse gas emissions of China are still high and are expected to rise, although China has taken serious steps in solving the problem. Increasing efforts to conserve energy may contribute significantly to the mitigation attempts to global warming. Therefore, it is necessary to understand how reducing the growth rate of energy consumption may affect the economic growth rate in China. This paper investigates the temporal relationship between the growth rates of energy consumption and GDP in China in a multivariate framework. We find some evidence that China may consider reducing the growth of energy consumption without significantly hampering economic growth. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

In recent days, many emerging nations facing severe environmental pollution problems. In order to overcome the environmental problems, many new methods and strategies have been built and some advance sources of energies were also utilized in order to overcome such issues but by using such sources, many challenges were faced. In order to find best possible solutions of such issues, this paper was aimed to minimize the gap of research by examining the effect on economic development of energy expenditure and environmental pollution and by means of finding the casual relationship between them because it has been observed that with development of economy, environmental issues always increase. Effects of both traditional and modern energies was analyzed in this research. Several explanatory variables will be used: Renewable energy consumption, CO 2 emission, economic GDP. Environmental pollution will be taken as the mediating factor that influence this association between energy utilization as well as economic development. Present study was based on the economy of China. ARDL regression model was applied in this research to increase the time series econometrics when non-stationary value demonstrated the co-integration and it is also effective for both stationary and non-stationary time series. At the end, some advanced methods of production were discussed that can be used in this era of industry 4.0. This paper builds an input-output model to analyze the energy and economic impacts of the 4.7 trillion-CNY investment projects of the " Three-Year Action Plan for Major Construction Projects of Transportation Infrastructure ", which was launched by the Chinese government in 2016. The results show that, from 2016 to 2018, the investment plan could increase China's GDP by 2.39%, 1.30%, and 1.24%, respectively, and the country's energy consumption by 3.98%, 2.35%, and 2.40%, respectively. The top five production sectors could contribute 55% of the GDP growth induced by the plan, and the top three sectors could contribute 83% of the energy consumption growth, indicating that the impact of the investment plan centers mainly on a limited number of sectors. From the view of supply chains, the 20 paths with the largest GDP contribution cover approximately 47% of the GDP growth induced by the plan, and the 20 paths that consume the most energy cover approximately 32% of the energy consumption growth. In these paths, the construction industry is the dominant demand sector, whereas the industry of nonmetallic mineral products, the industry of production and supply of electricity and steam, and the industry of smelting and pressing of metals are the primary supply sectors. In the future, the Chinese government should pay more attention to indirect energy consumption related to the construction industry, and policymakers will also need to set up more effective energy conservation policies for the upstream sectors of the construction industry, such as the sectors providing cement, glass, and steel. • Estimate the energy and economic impacts of China's three-year investment plan for transportation infrastructure. • Identify critical supply chains for the energy consumption and economic changes induced by the investment plan. • Propose several policy recommendations on reducing energy consumption in the construction industry.
