Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 recognized female labor force participation as an important component for economic growth. This study investigates the relationship between female labor force participation rate, female tertiary school enrolment, female life expectancy and per capita income measured quarterly between 1991 and 2017. The study employs traditional unit root tests of Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF), Phillips-Perron (PP) and Kwiatkowski–Phillips–Schmidt–Shin (KPSS) complemented by Zivot and Andrews (ZA) test. Furthermore, for robustness check, combined cointegration test as prescribed by Bayer and Hanck (2013) and Pesaran ARDL bound tests were performed. Toda-Yamamoto causality test examined the causality flow among the variables. The result posits all independent variables have positive significant effect on female labor force participation rate within Saudi Arabia; rendering a policy recommendation: higher female labor participation can be achieved through investment in female education, health sector and achieving economic growth.

The aim of this study is to examine the impact of food availability on economic growth and child mortality; especially within food insecure African countries where child mortality is high and economic growth is considered as the highest hurdle to overcome. This study made use of both empirical and statistical tools to achieve its objective. The empirical aspect consists of two parts. First, Solow growth model was used to explore the impact of food security on economic growth within 124 countries, including food insecure African countries, for the period 1970-2007; the result posits that food security has a positive impact on economic growth in all the 124 countries and it has even greater impact on economic growth within food insecure African countries. Second, this study examined the impact of food security on child mortality (infant mortality and under-five mortality), using a dynamic panel data analysis for 114 countries for the period 1995-2009 by considering a wide range of controlled variables such as income, social indicators and policy variables. The result suggests that food security has a negative impact on child mortality for all countries and even more impact on child mortality within food insecure African countries. Therefore, based on the findings of this study; it is recommended that an increase in food security is indeed a positive policy option, particularly within food insecure African countries, since it not only enhances economic growth but also ensures a decrease in child mortality within these countries. Öz:Bu çalışma özellikle çocuk ölümlerinin yüksek olduğu ve ekonomik büyüme sorununun da yoğun olarak yaşandığı Afrika ülkelerinde, gıda güvenliğinin ekonomik büyüme ve çocuk ölüm oranı üzerindeki etkisini ölçmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Çalışma amacını gerçekleştirmek için hem ampirik hem de istatistiki methotlar kullanılmıştır. Çalışmanın ampirik cephesi iki farklı kısımdan oluşmaktadır. İlk kısımda Solow Büyüme Modeli kullanılarak gıda güvenliğinin ekonomik büyüme üzerindeki etkisi, 124 ülke (gıda güvenliği konusunda sıkıntı yaşayan Afrika ülkeleri de dahil) dikkate alınarak, 1970 ile 2007 yılları arasındaki dönem için araştırılmıştır. Bulgular, çalışmaya dahil edilen 124 ülke için gıda güvenliğinin sağlanmasının ekonomik büyüme üzerinde olumlu bir etkisi olduğunu göstermiştir. Gıda güvenliği konusunda sıkıntı yaşayan Afrika ülkelerinde ise gıda güvenliğinin sağlanmasının ekonomik büyümeye etkisi daha yüksek oranda karşımıza çıkmaktadır. İkinci olarak bu çalışma, gıda güvenliğinin çocuk ölümleri (bebek ölümleri ve beş yaş altı çocuk ölümleri) üzerindeki etkisini dinamik panel veri analizi methodunu kullanarak, 114 ülke kapsamında, 1995 ve 2009 yılları arasındaki dönem için ölçmeyi amaçlamıştır. Bağımlı değişkenler için geniş bir değişken listesi tanımlanmıştır. Bu değişkenlere örnek olarak gelir, sosyal göstergeler ve politika değişkenleri gösterilebilir. Çalışma sonuçları gıda güvenliğinin çalışma kapsamındaki tüm ülkeler için çocuk ölümlerinde azaltıcı (negatif) bir etkisi olduğunu göstermektedir. Gıda güvenliği, çocuk ölümlerindeki azaltıcı etkisini gıda güvenliği konusunda sıkıntı yaşayan Afrika ülkelerinde daha belirgin olarak göstermektedir. Böylelikle, çalışma bulgularından yola çıkarak, gıda güvenliğinin artırılmasının, gerek tutarlı bir ekonomik büyüme elde etmede, gerekse çocuk ölümleriyle mücadelede, özellikle de gıda güvenliği konusunda sıkıntı yaşayan Afrika ülkelerinde olumlu bir politika opsiyonu olacağını söylemek mümkündür. Over the last decade, there has been an incessant rise in global food prices; this increase in food prices has been associated with the recent discovery of petroleum product substitute “ethanol”. Since bio-ethanol is mainly produced from food crops such as sugar cane and corn, the increase in the demand for these food crops for ethanol production particularly by emerging markets such as china has imposed enormous pressure on demand for food and food prices. This study investigates the impact of increase in food prices on global economic growth; using food producer price and consumer price index as a proxy, this study examines the gain on the producer side and the loss on consumer side from this increase in food prices and how this gain and loss has impact economic growth. Descriptive analysis and bare bone Solow growth model was use in this study on data from 126 different countries, between year 2000 and 2009 for which data is available and during which there has been increase in food prices to achieve its goal. The result from our findings shows that the increase in food prices; has can be observed from the increase in food producer prices, has a positive impact on economic growth, signifying that the increase in food prices has some benefit on current global economic position. Also, our findings shows that consumer price index has a positive but insignificant relationship with economic growth; implying that the current increase in food consumer price index is not detrimental to global economic growth as one would expect instead there has been global benefit from the hike in food price.
