Using a hedonic pricing model, this paper investigates the responsiveness of residential property values in a well-defined inner-city neighborhood of Kenosha, Wisconsin, to the presence of two small former industrial sites contaminated by various environmental pollutants, or brownfields, and a local neighborhood park, or greenspace. Using readily available data on sales and assessments for residential property in close proximity to the brownfields and the greenspace, we estimate well-behaved and statistically significant property value gradients with respect to the park, the environmental amenity, and the brownfields, the environmental disamenities. These functions are then used to estimate the possible impact that brownfield remediation may have on total property value. We estimate that remediation and redevelopment of the brownfields into greenspaces would increase property values for the 890 neighborhood residences between $2.40 and $7.01 million. These results suggest that small brownfields have a measurable impact on property values and that readily accessible data can be used to help local policymakers make decisions on remediation issues. The article examines how Wisconsin's tourism industry in the late 19th- and early 20th-centuries created an economy that was at odds with federal Indian policy, focusing on Indian performances. It discusses the role of John Troutman in showing how music shaped federal Indian policy and the federal government's citizenship agenda for American Indians. Also discussed is the role of Indians in tourism ventures despite government officials' effort to ban indigenous culture.

We examine the emergence and proliferation of payday lenders, fringe businesses that provide small short-term, but high-cost loans. We link the organizational dynamics of these businesses to two trends in consumer lending in the United States: the continuing consolidation of mainstream financial institutions; and the expansion of such institutions in the provision of financial services regarded as similar to payday loans. We explain the coexistence in mature industries of large-scale organizations in the market center and smaller specialists in the periphery by testing and extending the organizational model of resource partitioning. Our focus is on two under-examined aspects of the model: the dynamic underlying the partitioning process, and the conditions under which the market remains partitioned. This article discusses Ojibwe Indians' fishing rights in Wisconsin. It particularly focuses on a legal and social crisis surrounding treaty rights in the 1980s and Indian rights to spearfish walleyes in the Great Lakes. The authors comment on the 1983 court case Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Chippewa Indians v. Voigt, racial harassment faced by Indians, and media coverage of the controversy. They analyze Northern Wisconsin's economic and environmental conditions since the 1980s and examine tourism in the region. The Ojibwe organization the Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission (GLIFWC) is also discussed.
