Sustainable economic growth is defined as a continuous increase in environmentally adjusted net domestic product (Bartelmus, 1994). This study investigates the role of natural gas consumption and trade openness in relation with the economic growth of Turkey for the period 1977-2017 throughout which Turkey underwent several political and economic shocks. To accomplish this, the paper employs the Kejriwal and Perron (2010) structural break test to investigate the relationship between economic growth and its determinants in the presence of structural shifts. By demonstrating the impacts of variables on economic growth through different sub-regimes, the outcomes underline the importance of structural breaks in estimations.

Geleneksel finans teorilerinin sorgulanmaya başlaması ile ortaya çıkan davranışsal finans, yatırımcıların rasyonel hareket etmediğini ve piyasaların tam olarak etkin işlemediğini öne sürmektedir. Bu alanda yapılan çalışmalar, varlık fiyatlarının geçmiş hareketlerine bakarak gelecekteki fiyat hareketlerini tahmin etmenin mümkün olduğunu göstermiştir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, geçmişin kaybedenlerinin geleceğin kazananları olduğunu ileri süren zıtlık stratejisi karlılığının Borsa İstanbul’da analiz edilmesidir. Bu amaçla, Ocak 2001-Aralık 2015 tarihleri arasında 1,2,3,4 ve 5 yıllık vadelerle oluşturulan portföylerin, izleyen 1,2,3,4 ve 5 yıllık vadelerdeki performansları incelenmiştir. Analiz sonucunda, zıtlık stratejisinin Borsa İstanbul’da karlı bir yatırım stratejisi olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır., Behavioral finance, which emerged from the debate on traditional finance theories, suggests that investors do not act rationally and that market operations are not completely active. Studies in this field demonstrated that it is possible to predict future asset price movements based on historical movements of these prices. The purpose of the present study is to analyze the contrarian strategy profitability in Istanbul Stock Exchange (Borsa Istanbul), which argues that the past losers are the winners in the future. For this purpose, the performances of the 1,2,3,4 and 5-year term portfolios between January 2001 and December 2015 are examined for the consecutive 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5-year periods. Analysis results demonstrated that the contrarian strategy is a profitable investment strategy in Borsa Istanbul.

This study examines the effect of entrepreneurial activity on economic growth in MENA countries. Following the endogenous growth model, we included human capital and technology spillover variables into the analysis. Due to limited data of entrepreneurship measures in MENA countries this study employed self-employment rate as a proxy. As the level of education increases, absorptive capacity and innovation capacity of the entrepreneurs’ increase. In order to adjust for human capital, the interaction variable of self-employment and average years of schooling are used. The fixed- effect panel regression estimates that the effect of self-employment on economic growth is negative in all specifications. However, the interaction estimate of self-employment and average years of schooling are positive and significant. Our results suggest that the driving force of entrepreneurship in MENA countries is also affected by the economic necessities. On the other hand, the level of education accelerates the effect of entrepreneurial activity on economic growth.
