The increasing industrial demand for animal leather as a fashion necessity encourages various studies to find alternative uses for animal skins, one of which is vegan leather. Vegan leather is made from natural sources or synthetic materials, and it looks like animal leather without animal skin elements. Using animal leather in industries is suspected of causing severe sustainability issues to the environment, such as deforestation, water and land overuse, and gas emissions. One vegan leather being developed by researchers is the one derived from natural sources such as mycelium mushroom. This research, therefore, reviews mycelium-based leather's potential for sustainability. Therefore, this activity aims to analyze the sustainability of mycelium mushroom-based vegan leather in terms of its environmental impact and feasibility, in particular, to compete with animal leather. Vegan leather sheets derived from mycelium mushroom showed the most significant potential, and it is promising to support sustainability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
