Abstract We perform the potential analysis in holographic Schwinger effect in Einstein–Maxwell–Gauss–Bonnet (EMGB) gravity. The static potential is evaluated by the classical string action attaching on a probe D3-brane sitting at an intermediate position in the bulk anti-de Sitter (AdS) space. It is shown that chemical potential μ and positive Gauss–Bonnet (GB) coefficient λ G B enhance the production rate while negative λ G B reduce it. We study R 2 corrections to the holographic Schwinger effect in an AdS black hole background and a confining D3-brane background, respectively. The potential analysis for these backgrounds is presented. The critical values for the electric field are obtained. It is shown that for both backgrounds increasing the Gauss–Bonnet parameter the Schwinger effect is enhanced. Moreover, the results provide an estimate of how the Schwinger effect changes with the shear viscosity to entropy density ratio, η / s , at strong coupling. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We investigate the behavior of the heavy quark potential in the backgrounds with hyperscaling violation. The metrics are covariant under a generalized Lifshitz scaling symmetry with the dynamical Lifshitz parameter z and hyperscaling violation exponent θ. We calculate the potential for a certain range of z and θ and discuss how it changes in the presence of the two parameters. Moreover, we add a constant electric field to the backgrounds and study its effects on the potential. It is shown that the heavy quark potential depends on the nonrelativistic parameters. Using the AdS/CFT correspondence, we investigate the Schwinger effect in a confining D3-brane background with chemical potential. The potential between a test particle pair on the D3-brane in an external electric field is obtained. The critical field Ec in this case is calculated. Also, we apply numerical method to evaluate the production rate for various cases. The results imply that the presence of chemical potential tends to suppress the pair production effect. Using the AdS/CFT correspondence, we study the effect of back reaction on the holographic Schwinger effect by performing the potential analysis. The back reaction discussed here arises from the presence of static heavy quarks uniformly distributed over N = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills (SYM) plasma. The results show that the inclusion of back reaction decreases the potential barrier thus enhancing the production rate.
