Abstract In this paper, New asymmetric cascaded half H bridge multilevel inverter MLI is proposed. It is driven from the conventional asymmetric cascaded half H Bridge multilevel inverter. Thus, the proposed topology inherits its simplicity, flexibility and modularity in both construction and control. By proper choice of the input DC sources values and interconnection, proposed topology can eliminate the need for polarity generation circuit which normally associated with the cascaded half H-bridge. Therefore, reduces number of switches that require high blocking voltage. The selective harmonic elimination SHE method is applied to generate switching pattern to eliminate harmonics inherently associated with MLI. The proposed topology switching pattern naturally reduces component's voltage stress, switching losses and finally decrees MLI size and cost. Mathematical expressions and analysis have been driven as well as comparison with other topologies. The validity of the proposed topology is verified with Matlab/Simulink model and then a prototype is built and experimental results are presented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper proposes a new three-phase modular multilevel inverter (MMLI). The proposed inverter consists of repeated modular primary cells that are connected in series configuration. Therefore, the proposed topology can be extended to get more output voltage levels by adding additional cells without increasing voltage stresses across power switches. Both sinusoidal pulsewidth modulation (SPWM) and staircase modulation are successfully applied to the proposed inverter. The proposed inverter features many advantages such as reduced number of semiconductor power switches, driver circuits, dc-voltage sources, simplified control algorithm, and reduced voltage stresses across the switches independent of output voltage level. Furthermore, the performance of the proposed inverter is studied under both open-loop and closed-loop operations for highly inductive load. Beside the obtained simulation results, a laboratory prototype has been carried out and tested to verify the control techniques and performances of the topology. This paper presents a new single-phase asymmetrical cascaded multilevel DC-link inverter. The proposed inverter comprises two stages. The main stage of the inverter consists of multiple similar cells, each of which is a half-bridge inverter consisting of two switches and a single DC source. All cells are connected in a cascaded manner with a fixed neutral point. The DC source values are not made equal to increase the performance of the inverter. The second circuit is a folded cascaded H-bridge circuit operating at a line frequency. One of the main advantages of this proposed topology is that it is a modular type and can thus be extended to high stages without changing the configuration of the main stage circuit. Two control schemes, namely, low switching with selective harmonic elimination and sinusoidal pulse width modulation, are employed to validate the proposed topology. The detailed approach of each control scheme and switching pulses are discussed in detail. A 150W prototype of the proposed system is implemented in the laboratory to verify the validity of the proposed topology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A special cascaded configuration of asymmetric multilevel inverter is presented in this paper. This configuration cancels the redundancy of output voltage steps and maximizes the number of levels in the output voltage. This structure is built by using series connected stages, which minimize the number of semiconductor switches, gate drive arrangements, occupying area, and cost. It is a modular type inverter model and the number of voltage levels can be increased by adding new stages without changing the previous connection. Space vector modulation has been applied as the control strategy. A prototype of the proposed inverter topology has been built in the laboratory. This study presents a new design and implementation of a three-phase hybrid multilevel inverter (MLI) using space vector modulation. The proposed MLI consists of a reduced number of dc sources and switches to minimise the control complexity. The developed topology consists of two stages: main stage and auxiliary stage. The main stage is a conventional three-phase inverter with one high-voltage input dc source and six switches. The auxiliary stages contain three individual cells. Each cell consists of two switches and one low-voltage input dc source. This topology is a modular type and without changing the previous connection it can be extended for more number of output voltage levels by adding certain number of auxiliary stages. A space vector modulation control technique has been utilised in order to generate different switching sequences. The special feature of the proposed system is its capability to maximise the number of voltage levels using a reduced number of isolated dc voltage sources and electronic switches. A prototype has been developed and tested for various modulation indexes to verify the control technique and performance of the topology. This study proposes a new two-stage high voltage gain boost grid-connected inverter for AC-module photovoltaic (PV) system. The proposed system consists of a high-voltage gain switched inductor boost inverter cascaded with a current shaping (CS) circuit followed by an H-bridge inverter as a folded circuit and its switches operate at line frequency. The switched inductor boost converter (SIBC) has one switch operates like a continuous conduction mode. The maximum power of the PV module is achieved through the SIBC circuit whereas the grid connection requirements are accomplished using the CS circuit with the H-bridge inverter. The switch of the CS circuit is controlled with a sine wave modulation control scheme. The main advantages of the new proposed system are high boosting gain, lower switching losses and reduces the ground leakage current as all H-bridge switches operate at the line frequency. A 120 W prototype has been built and experimentally tested. It has been found that experimental results have a good matching with the proposed analysis and simulation results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
