The article presents information on the thermal and hygroscopic properties of the B[sub2]O[sub3]-ZnO-CaO glasses. Glasses with low firing temperatures below 600 degree Celcius are used for a number of electronic applications including sealing for metals and ceramics and transparent dielectric and barrier ribs in plasma display panels. Currently, low melting glasses composed of the PbO glass system, which has the advantage of decreased melting point of the frit, are widely used in the electronic industry. Even though it has good properties, many countries restrict the usage of PbO and have tried to replace it because it is a dangerous environmental contaminant as well as a serious health risk.
