The article discusses the longer-term evolution of the Canadian government's engagement with environmental issues. A brief history of environmental governance in industrialized countries has been provided as well as the interpretation of this history. It explores several implications for the debate about the climate policy of the province. Several suggestions, such as planning to stabilize and reduce its burgeoning emissions, to address the climate change issue in the region have also been discussed.
