The experiment was conducted to study the effect of composite plant extracts Piper sarmentosum Roxb. and guava leaf on growth performance and serum indexes of weaned piglets. A total of 200 21-day-old weaned piglets were selected and randomly divided into two groups, with five replicates in each group and 20 piglets in each replicate. Piglets in control group were fed with a basal diet, the piglets in experimental group were fed with the basal diet supplemented with composite plant extracts at 200 mg/kg. The experimental period was 21 d. The results showed that there was no significant difference on growth performance of piglets among the groups(P>0.05). Compared with control group, the experimental group supplemented with the compound plant extract in the diet significantly decreased the serum cholesterol(CHOL) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C) content of piglets(P<0.05), glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px)activity was significantly increased(P<0.05), serum content of interleukin-4(IL-4), interleukin-10(IL-10) and transforming growth factor-β(TGF-β) were significantly increased(P<0.05), the content of interleukin-1β(IL-1β),interleukin-6(IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) were significantly decreased(P<0.05), and serum endotoxin(ET-1) content and diamine oxidase(DAO) activity were significantly decreased(P<0.05). The study indicates that adding compound plant extracts to diet can improve the antioxidant performance and immune function of weaned piglets, and improve the intestinal mucosal barrier function of piglets.
