Objective: This study was conducted with the purpose of analysing the effect to diabetes related knowledge and habits of distance learning via videos through mobile phones in individuals with type 2 diabetes. Method: The universe of the study was composed of individuals with type 2 diabetes who were admitted to the diabetes polyclinic of Balikesir Atatürk City Hospital between July 2018-January 2019 whereas the sample group was composed of 100 individuals with Type 2 diabetes in total who met the inclusion criteria of the study and agreed to participate in the study; 50 of them being in the learning group, and the remaining 50 being in the control group. Data collection was performed using the Questionnaire on Diagnosing Individuals with Diabetes and Follow-up form. Data collection forms were applied to the learning and control groups in the first interview. After the first interview, the control group continued to be provided with routine follow-ups in the polyclinic. In the learning group, videos containing 8 episodes of diabetes education were sent to mobile phones of individuals twice a week. In the second interview that took place after 3 months of the completion of training, data collection forms were applied to the learning and control group for the second time. Results: In the study, it was observed that the knowledge level about diabetes increased in the learning group after education via videos were provided to individuals, that the rate of acute complications decreased, that there was a statistically significant difference compared to the control group in terms of complying with the treatment and diet, and the habit of doing exercises. Conclusion:In our study, we demonstrated that the distance learning via videos through mobile phone was an effective method on diabetes related knowledge and habits of Type 2 diabetes., Amaç: Bu çalışma, tip 2 diyabetli bireylere mobil telefonları aracılığı ile uzaktan verilen video eğitimin diyabetle ilgili bilgi ve alışkanlıklara etkisini incelemek amacıyla gerçekleştirildi. Yöntem: Araştırmanın evrenini Temmuz 2018-Ocak 2019 tarihleri arasında Balıkesir Atatürk Şehir Hastanesi diyabet polikliniğine başvuran tip 2 diyabetli bireyler; örneklemi ise araştırmaya dahil edilme kriterlerine uyan ve araştırmaya katılmayı kabul eden 50 eğitim grubu ve 50 kontrol grubu olmak üzere toplam 100 Tip 2 diyabetli birey oluşturdu. Verilerin toplanmasında, Diyabetli Birey Tanılama ve Takip Formu kullanıldı. Eğitim grubuna ve kontrol grubuna ilk görüşmede veri toplama formları uygulandı. İlk görüşmeden sonra, kontrol grubu rutin poliklinik takiplerini almaya devam etti. Eğitim grubunda ise bireylerin cep telefonlarına haftada iki kez, toplamda sekiz bölüm diyabet eğitimi videosu gönderildi. Eğitimin tamamlanmasından üç ay sonra olan ikinci görüşmede eğitim grubuna ve kontrol grubuna veri toplama formları tekrar uygulandı. Bulgular: Araştırmada; bireylere verilen video eğitim sonrası eğitim grubunda; diyabetle ilgili bilgi düzeyinin arttığı, akut komplikasyon yaşama oranının azaldığı, düzenli kan şekeri takibi yapanların oranının arttığı, tedaviye uyum, diyete uyum ve düzenli egzersiz yapma alışkanlığında kontrol grubuna göre istatistiksel olarak anlamlı farklılık olduğu saptandı.Sonuç:Çalışmamızda mobil telefonları aracılığı ile uzaktan verilen video eğitimin Tip 2 diyabetli bireylerin diyabetle ilgili bilgi ve alışkanlıkları üzerinde etkili bir yöntem olduğu belirlendi.

This descriptive study was carried out in order to determine the knowledge levels and attitudes of doctors and nurses regarding children’s sexual development and sex education. The study was conducted with doctors and nurses who work at various clinics of two state hospitals located in the province of Istanbul. The data collection tool consisted of 58 questions. The Statistical Program for the Social Sciences, version 18.0 (SPSS 18.0) was used for data analysis. It was determined that females comprised the majority of the respondents (61 %) and were over 36 years of age (54.1 %) (37.81 ± 8.82). Of the participants in the study, 63.5 % had bachelor’s degrees and 62.1 % were medical doctors. It was determined that the number of correct responses given by the respondents regarding some behaviors observed in children aged between 3 and 6 years and children’s sexual development and sex education showed significant differences according to age group (p = 0.007), marital status (p = 0.004), the status of having children (p = 0.004), educational status (p = 0.005) and occupation (p = 0.000). However, in a review of the study findings, it was observed that culture had an important impact on sex-related approaches and that embarrassment and shyness is very common. © 2015, The Author(s).

This study aims to determine the views and attitudes of nurses on sexual counseling. This qualitative study has been conducted with 103 nurses who work at a university hospital. Data have been gathered with a form developed by the researchers. In order to determine the level of competence, the Visual Analog Scale has been used, which is scored from 1 to 10. The SPSS 10.0 program has been used for data analysis. Data has been analyzed with the Mann-Whitney U and Chi-square tests techniques. Percentile distributions and means were also calculated. Only 17.5% of nurses previously performed sexual counseling and 88.9% of those did so without any request from the patient. Among those nurses, 72.2% perceived themselves as competent in the field and defined their level of proficiency as a mean 6.77 +/- A 51.79.27.8% were trained in the field of sexual problems and sexual counseling and 22.2% perceived their training in the field as sufficient.74.8% believed that their colleagues and themselves should receive specific training in the field and 63.1% demanded to receive this training. 55.6% reported that they referred patients to another health professional for sexual counseling when necessary. The average level of which nurses perceive themselves competent in providing sexual counseling is moderate and the level of which nurses can actually provide sexual counseling is insufficient. In order to prevent this problem, we recommend preparing training programs for nurses on sexual counseling which contain sufficient information.

The aim of this study is to determine the level of comfort among nursing students during sexual counseling to patients who have chronic medical conditions. The sample of this descriptive study consisted of 161 students who study at the third and fourth years at a health college. More than half of the students reported being comfortable or a slightly comfortable during providing sexual counseling to patients who have chronic conditions. Students who are not comfortable with answering questions related to sexuality (p = 0.000), find initiating a conversation on future sexual problems with the patient is inappropriate unless the patient brings it up (p = 0.007), and nurses should not talk about sexual issues in a routine way with patients (p = 0.026) who do not feel comfortable during sexual counseling. In order to provide nursing students feeling comfortable, the issue of sexual counseling to patients who have chronic conditions should take place during the nursing education.

Materials and Methods: The study, of cross-sectional design, was conducted with the parents of 101 children diagnosed with cancer, using a questionnaire and the technique of face-to-face interviews. Mean scores, percentages, chi-square and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used in the statistical analysis. During the study, interviews were held with 42.6% of the children's mothers and with the fathers of 44.6%. Results: The mean age of the children was 8.66±4.52 years. A group of 33.7% of the parents was making use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) for their children. Of the parents, 76.5% stated that CAM had been instrumental in reducing a tumor, 53.8% said that their child's general condition had improved and 15.4% expressed an increase in morale. Another 41.2% concealed their use of CAM from their doctors and nurses. The parents that were interviewed: the age of the mother, the age of the father and the family's economic status were determining factors in the parents' use of CAM. The prevalence of the use of CAM among parents with children with cancer is not negligible. Background and aims Especially the period between the ages of 0–6, which is known as the early childhood period (preschool period), is a very critical period where learning is fastest, the child is affected the most from environmental factors, and the chance for keeping the acquired attitudes, behaviour and habits in the following years is the highest. As in many subjects, giving the importance to sexual education in this period has many benefits regarding development. This descriptive study was carried out in order to determine knowledge levels and attitudes of doctors and nurses regarding children’s sexual development and sex education. Methods The design of the study is descriptive. The study was conducted with doctors and nurses who work at various clinics of two state hospitals located in the Istanbul province. A total of 138 doctors and 150 nurses work at these hospitals. Results It was determined that the majority of cases were female and were aged more than 36 years. 63.5% of the cases have bachelor’s degrees and 62.1% were medical doctors. It was determined that the number of correct responses given by the cases regarding some behaviours observed in children aged between 3–6 years and children’s sexual development and sex education showed significant differences according to age group, marital status, status of having children, educational status, and occupation (Table 1). Conclusions All of our cases think that it is necessary to provide sex education for children and the majority of cases think that sex education should be provided for children aged between 7–12 years.
