Slotting effect in electric machines reduces flux per pole that effect magnetic flux density distribution in the air gap which induces harmonics in magnetic flux density causing flux pulsation, that in turn generates dominant torque pulsation in the form of cogging torque and torque ripples. To overcome the abovesaid demerits, a novel outer rotor field-excited flux-switching machine (OR-FSFSM) with a combined semi-closed and open slots stator is proposed in this study. The developed OR-FEFSM offers a high-power factor, due to the utilization of the semi-closed slot for armature coils. The open slot stator structure was chosen for the field excitation coil, which effectively suppresses leakage reluctance that causes flux pulsation. Thus, the influence of torque ripples is reduced, and the average torque is improved. In order to investigate the effectiveness of the proposed OR-FEFSM, a detailed study of stator slot and rotor pole combinations are performed. Based on simplified mathematical formulation, 12S/7P (stator slot/rotor poles), 12S/11P, 12S/13P, and 12S/17P are the most feasible combinations. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) based on comprehensive electromagnetic performance is performed on each combination, and found that 12S/13P offers the highest average torque of 4.62 Nm, whereas 3.72 Nm, 2.72Nm, and 1.68 Nm average torque is offered by 12S/17P, 12S/7P, and 12S/11P, respectively. Based on the initial analysis, 12S/13P was considered for further analysis and optimized using JMAG built-in Genetic Algorithm (GA). Flux switching machines (FSMs) encompass unique features of conventional direct current machine, permanent magnet (PM) synchronous machine and switch reluctance machine. Permanent magnet FSM (PMFSM) is capable of high torque density and applicable for high‐speed application, however conventional PMFSM exhibits demerits of high PM volume, high torque ripples and significant stator flux leakage. In this paper, a novel consequent pole E‐core stator PMFSM is proposed and compared with conventional topology utilising 2D finite‐element analysis (2D‐FEA). Finite‐element analysis revealed that proposed design enhanced flux modulation effects by introducing flux bridges and flux barriers as a result reduced cogging torque by reducing 46.53% of the total PM volume, reduce torque ripples by reducing PM slot effects and reduce flux leakage utilising flux bridges in the stator. Furthermore, analytical model for flux linkages, cogging torque, mechanical torque, no load and on‐load magnetic flux density (MFD) is developed for initial design of conventional and proposed model. 2D analytical methodologies resolve equivalent magnetic circuits for open‐circuit flux linkages, Fourier analysis for cogging torque, Laplace equations for MFD and Maxwell stress tensor for mechanical torque. Short moving primary and rigid low‐cost secondary are important requirements of linear machines designed for long stroke applications. In the race, linear permanent magnet flux switching machine (LPMFSM) is a competitive candidate by confining excitation sources to short mover, thus making stator robust and low cost (made of only iron). However, single‐sided LPMFSM exhibit a demerit of high normal (attraction) force due to its topology. In order to rectify the problem and enhance thrust force profile, two novel double‐sided LPMFSMs are proposed with dual stator and dual mover topologies. After stator pole study, both topologies with same design dimensions are analysed and compared by 2‐D finite element method here. Detailed analysis revealed that 12/14 DMLPMFSM exhibit low numerical values of thrust force ripples and detent force while maintaining average thrust force value. Hence, 12/14 DMLPMFSM is selected and optimised by structure‐based deterministic optimisation (SBDO) approach to further enhance thrust force profile. Finally, comparison of initial and optimised design of 12/14 DMLPMFSM is presented to validate optimisation procedure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A novel single sided Linear Permanent Magnet Flux Switching Machine (LPMFSM) with twelve mover slots and fourteen stator teeth (12/14), having two additional end teeth on both sides of mover is presented. Presence of both Armature Winding (AW) and Permanent Magnet (PM) on mover structure results in completely passive, robust, and low cost stator. While, demerits such as less slot area, complex flux density distribution, and magnetic saturation caused by passive stator demands to be analyzed by time consuming and computationally complex numerical modelling techniques, i.e., Finite Element (FE) Analysis, requiring expensive hardware/software. In this paper, two cost effective and fast response analytical techniques are developed to analyze no-load performance of LPMFSM. Two no-load characteristics, i.e., open-circuit flux linkage and detent force are analyzed by Equivalent Magnetic Circuit (termed as analytical technique No. 1) and Lumped Parameter Equivalent Magnetic Circuit (termed as analytical technique No. 2). Both analytical methodologies are compared and validated with corresponding globally accepted FE Analysis. Analysis revealed that LPEMC is better approach for initial design of LPMFSM. A dual mover yokeless multi-tooth (DMYMT) permanent magnet flux switching motor (PM-FSM) design is presented in this article for ropeless elevator applications. The excitation sources, including a field winding and permanent magnet, are on the short mover in the proposed design structure, whereas the stator is a simple slotted iron core, thus reducing the vertical transportation system cost. The operational principle of the proposed DMYMT in PM-FSM is introduced. The proposed dual mover yokeless multi-tooth Permanent Magnet Flux Switching Motor is analyzed and compared for various performance parameters in a Finite Element Analysis package. The proposed machine has high thrust force and cost-effectiveness compared to conventional dual permanent magnet motor. Finally, this paper also develops an analytical model for the proposed structure, validated by comparing it with Finite Element Analysis simulation results.
