Hydraulic Fracturing ist ein technisches Verfahren für die Erhöhung der Leitfähigkeit von niedrig permeablem Gestein in Erdöl- und geothermischen Reservoirs. Um zu einem besseren Verständnis der physikalischen Mechanismen beizutragen, ist die vorliegende Dissertation der Entwicklung von numerischen Methoden gewidmet und wird für die Analyse von Rissausbreitungsproblemen in soliden und porösen Materialien verwendet. Zwei neue Modelle wurden für das spröde Versagen von elastischen Materialen entwickelt, wo das Bruchwachstum entlang der Interface-Finite-Elemente modeliert wird. Das erste Bruchmodell wurde auf Basis des Variationskonzepts entwickelt, indem ein Risspfad durch der Minimierung der gesamten potentiellen Energie eines Festkörpers gefunden wird. Das zweite Modell wurde auf der Grundlage der Konfigurationsmechanik vorgeschlagen, bei der zur Momentenbilanz eine zusätzliche Gleichgewichtsgleichung berücksichtigt wird, die sich auf die Änderung der Materialkonfiguration bezieht.

The classical Cauchy-Boltzmann theory of continuum mechanics requires that the dimension, over which macroscopic gradients occur, are much larger than characteristic length scales of the microstructure. For this reason, the classical continuum theory comes to its limits for very small specimens or if material degradation leads to a localisation of deformations into bands, whose width is determined by the microstructure itself. Deviations from the predictions of the classical theory of continuum mechanics are referred to as size effects. It is well-known, that generalised continuum theories can describe size effects in principle. Especially micromorphic theories gain increasing popularity due its favorable numerical implementation. However, the formulation of the additionally necessary constitutive equations is a problem. For linear-elastic behavior, the number of material parameters increases considerably compared to the classical theory. The experimental determination of these parameters is thus very difficult. For nonlinear and history-dependent processes, even the qualitative structure of the constitutive equations can hardly be assessed solely on base of phenomenological considerations. Homogenisation methods are a promising approach to solve this problem. The present thesis starts with a critical review on the classical theory of homogenisation and the approaches on micromorphic homogenisation which are available in literature. On this basis, a theory is developed for the homogenisation of a classical Cauchy-Boltzmann continuum at the microscale towards a micromorphic continuum at the macroscale. In particular, the micro-macro-relations are specified for all macroscopic kinetic and kinematic field quantities. On the microscale, the corresponding boundary-value problem is formulated, whereby kinematic, static or periodic boundary conditions can be used. No restrictions are imposed on the material behavior, i. e. it can be linear or nonlinear. The special cases of the micropolar theory (Cosserat theory), microstrain theory and microdilatational theorie are considered. The proposed homogenisation method is demonstrated for several examples. The simplest example is the uniaxial case, for which the exact solution can be specified. Furthermore, the micromorphic elastic properties of a porous, foam-like material are estimated in closed form by means of Ritz' method with a cubic ansatz. A comparison with partly available exact solutions and FEM solutions indicates a qualitative and quantitative agreement of sufficient accuracy. For the special cases of micropolar and microdilatational theory, the material parameters are specified in the established nomenclature from literature. By means of these material parameters the size effect of an elastic foam structure is investigated and compared with corresponding results from literature. Furthermore, micromorphic damage models for quasi-brittle and ductile failure are presented. Quasi-brittle damage is modelled by propagation of microcracks. For the ductile mechanism, Gurson's limit-load approach on the microscale is extended by microdilatational terms. Aus diesem Grund stößt die klassische Kontinuumstheorie bei sehr kleinen Proben ebenso an ihre Grenzen wie bei Schädigungsvorgängen, bei denen die Deformationen in Bändern lokalisieren, deren Breite selbst von der Längenskalen der Mikrostruktur bestimmt wird. Abweichungen von Vorhersagen der klassischen Kontinuumstheorie werden als Größeneffekte bezeichnet. Es ist bekannt, dass generalisierte Kontinuumstheorien Größeneffekte prinzipiell beschreiben können. Insbesondere mikromorphe Theorien erfreuen sich auf Grund ihrer vergleichsweise einfachen numerischen Implementierung wachsender Beliebtheit. Ein großes Problem stellt dabei die Formulierung der zusätzlich notwendigen konstitutiven Gleichungen dar. Für linear-elastisches Verhalten steigt die Zahl der Materialparameter im Vergleich zur klassischen Theorie stark an, was deren experimentelle Bestimmung sehr schwierig macht. Bei nichtlinearen und lastgeschichtsabhängigen Prozessen lässt sich selbst die qualitative Struktur der konstitutiven Gleichungen ausschließlich auf Basis phänomenologischer Überlegungen kaum erschließen. Homogenisierungsverfahren stellen einen vielversprechenden Ansatz dar, um dieses Problem zu lösen. Die vorliegende Arbeit gibt zunächst einen kritischen Überblick über die klassische Theorie der Homogenisierung sowie die im Schrifttum verfügbaren Ansätze zur mikromorphen Homogenisierung. Auf dieser Basis wird eine Theorie zur Homogenisierung eines klassischen Cauchy-Boltzmann-Kontinuums auf Mikroebene zu einem mikromorphen Kontinuum auf der Makroebene entwickelt. Insbesondere werden Mikro-Makro-Relationen für alle makroskopischen kinetischen und kinematischen Feldgrößen angegebenen. Auf der Mikroebene wird das entsprechende Randwertproblem formuliert, wobei kinematische, statische oder periodische Randbedingungen verwendet werden können. Das Materialverhalten unterliegt keinen Einschränkungen, d. h., dass es sowohl linear als auch nichtlinear sein kann. Die Sonderfälle der mikropolaren Theorie (Cosserat-Theorie), Mikrodehnungstheorie und mikrodilatationalen Theorie werden erarbeitet. Das vorgeschlagene Homogenisierungsverfahren wird für eine Reihe von Beispielen demonstriert. Als einfachstes Beispiel dient der einachsige Fall, für den die exakte Lösung angegebenen werden kann. Weiterhin werden die mikromorphen, elastischen Eigenschaften eines porösen, schaumartigen Materials mittels des Ritz-Verfahrens mit einem kubischen Ansatz in geschlossener Form abgeschätzt. Ein Vergleich mit teilweise verfügbaren exakten Lösungen sowie FEM-Lösungen weist eine qualitative und quantitative Übereinstimmung hinreichender Genauigkeit aus. Für die Sonderfälle mikropolaren und mikrodilatationalen Theorien werden die Materialparameter in der im Schrifttum üblichen Nomenklatur angegebenen. Mittels dieser Materialparameter wird der Größeneffekt in einer elastischen Schaumstruktur untersucht und mit entsprechenden Ergebnissen aus dem Schrifttum verglichen. Desweiteren werden mikromorphe Schädigungsmodelle für quasi-sprödes und duktiles Versagen vorgestellt. Quasi-spröde Schädigung wird durch das Wachstum von Mikrorissen modelliert. Für den duktilen Mechanismus wird der Ansatz von Gurson einer Grenzlastanalyse auf Mikroebene um mikrodilatationale Terme erweitert. In der Arbeit wird auf der Grundlage eines mehrskaligen Ansatzes eine Methode zur Modellierung und Simulation keramischer Faserverbundwerkstoffe mit poröser Matrixphase entwickelt. Parametrische, automatisch generierte Finite-Element-Modelle, die die Mikro-, Meso- und Makrostruktur derartiger Werkstoffe explizit abbilden, werden zur Berechnung der mechanischen Eigenschaften sowie zur Simulation des Schädigungs- und Versagensverhaltens auf unterschiedlichen Größenskalen verwendet. Die Generierung der Modellgeometrie basiert auf mikroskopischen Untersuchungen und auf der Anwendung digitaler Bildauswerteverfahren. Aufgrund der Komplexität der Modellgeometrie wird ein robustes, gitterbasiertes Vernetzungsverfahren eingesetzt, um eine automatisierte Netzgenerierung für die nachfolgenden Finite-Element-Rechnungen zu ermöglichen. Der Übergang zwischen den einzelnen Größenskalen erfolgt dabei durch eine direkte numerische Homogenisierung. In this work, a multiscale simulation framework for the modelling and simulation of ceramic matrix composites with porous matrix phase is developed. Parametric, automatically generated finite element models, which explicitly represent the micro-, meso- and macrostructure of such materials, are used for the computation of the mechanical properties and the simulation of the damage and size-dependent failure behaviour on different length scales. The model generation is based on extensive microscopic investigations and digital image analyses. Due to the complex geometry of the models, a robust grid-based meshing algorithm is used in order to facilitate automated mesh generation for subsequent finite element simulations. A direct numerical homogenization technique is employed for the transition between the individual length scales.

This paper presents the theoretical background of a phenomenological biphasic material approach at large strains based on the theory of porous media as well as its numerical realization within the context of an adaptive mixed finite element formulation. The study is aimed at the simulation of coupled multiphysics problems with special focus on biomechanics. As the materials of interest can be considered as a mixture of two immiscible components (solid and fluid phases), they can be modeled as saturated porous media. For the numerical treatment of according problems within a finite element approach, weak formulations of the balance equations of momentum and volume of the mixture are developed. Within this context, a generalized Lagrangean approach is preferred assuming the initial configuration of the solid phase as reference configuration of the mixture. The transient problem results in weak formulations with respect to the displacement and pore pressure fields as well as their time derivatives. Therefore special linearization techniques are applied, and after spatial discretization a global system for the incremental solution of the initial boundary value problem within the framework of a stable mixed U/p-c finite element approach is defined. The global system is solved using an iterative solver with hierarchical preconditioning. Adaptive mesh evolution is controlled by a residual a posteriori error estimator. The accuracy and the efficiency of the numerical algorithms are demonstrated on a typical example.

This thesis deals with coupled space-time discontinuous Galerkin methods for the modeling of dynamical phenomena in fluid saturated porous media. The numerical scheme consists of finite element discretizations in the spatial and in the temporal domain simultaneously. In particular, two major classes of approaches have been investigated. The first one is the so-called time-discontinuous Galerkin (DGT) method, consisting of discontinuous polynomials in the temporal domain but continuous ones in space. A natural upwind flux treatment is introduced to enforce the continuity condition at discrete time levels. The proposed numerical approach is suitable for solving first-order time-dependend equations. For the second-order equations, an Embedded Velocity Integration (EVI) technique is developed to degenerate a second-order equation into a first-order one. The resulting first-order differential equation with the primary variable in rate term (velocity) can in turn be solved by the time-discontinuous Galerkin method efficiently. Applications concerning both the first- and second-order differential equations as well as wave propagation problems in porous materials are investigated. The other one is the coupled space-time discontinuous Galerkin (DGST) method, in which neither the spatial nor the temporal approximations pocesses strong continuity. Spatial fluxes combined with flux-weighted constraints are employed to enforce the interelement consistency in space, while the consistency in the time domain is enforced by the temporal upwind flux investigated in the DGT method. As there exists no coupling between the spatial and temporal fluxes, various flux treatments in space and in time are employed independently. The resulting numerical scheme is able to capture the steep gradients or even discontinuities. Applications concerning the single-phase flow within the porous media are presented. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit werden gekoppelte Raum-Zeit Finite-Element-Methoden für die Simulation dynamischer Effekte in fluid-gesättigten porösen Materialien entwickelt und numerisch umgesetzt. Dazu wird eine gekoppelte Diskretisierung des räumlichen und zeitlichen Gebietes vorgenommen. Insbesondere werden zwei Klassen von Verfahren untersucht. Die erste Methode ist ein sogenanntes zeitlich-diskontinuierliches Galerkin Verfahren (DGT-Methode). Hierbei werden diskontinuierliche Ansätze in der Zeit und kontinuierliche Ansätze im Raum verwendet. Die Kontinuitätsnebenbedingung in der Zeit wird durch einen upwind-Flussterm erzwungen. Der Flussterm unterliegt mathematischen Restriktionen und daher ist das resultierende Finite Element Verfahren nur für Gleichungen mit zeitlichen Ableitungen erster Ordnung geeignet. Um auch Gleichungen zweiter Ordnungen mit dem entwickelten DGT-Verfahren behandeln zu können, ist die EVI-Methode (Embedded Velocity Integration method) entwickelt worden. Im Rahmen der EVI-Technik wird die Geschwindigkeit als Primärvariable gewählt und im Bezug auf die gewählten zeitlichen Ansätze integriert. Die auf der Geschwindigkeit basierenden schwachen Formen können wiederum mit der DGT-Methode gelöst werden. Die entwickelten numerischen Raum-Zeit Finite-Elemente-Methoden werden sowohl für elastische Wellenausbreitungsprobleme als auch für gekoppelte Fragestellungen in porösen Medien angewendet. Abschließend wird ein räumlich diskontinuierliches Finite-Element-Verfahren entwickelt und mit den bereits entwickelten zeitlich-diskontinuierlichen Methoden gekoppelt. Die räumliche Kontinuitätsbedingung wird durch die Entwicklung eines speziellen Flusstermes erzwungen. Es wird gezeigt, dass sich das Verfahren mit den bereits entwickelten Flusstermen für die zeitliche Kontinuität koppeln lässt. Dies wird durch die Entkopplung der räumlichen und zeitlichen Flussterme möglich. Das resultierende Raum-Zeit diskontinuierliche Finite-Element-Verfahren wird wiederum auf Strömungsprobleme mischbarer Fluide in porösen Medien angewendet und mit klassischen Methoden verglichen.
