CHRISTIANITY , *PLEASURE , *GENEALOGY , *DESIRE , *GOVERNMENTALITY - Abstract
The objective of this article is to present in its most general terms Foucault's analysis of Christianity, with the aim of pointing out what is unique about it. To do this, we will focus our attention on the four books published within the project of a History of sexuality, the first three volumes of which were published in 1976 and 1984, while the last volume only in 2018. This analysis, in turn, presupposes genealogy of the subject of desire, which we can consider as Foucault's last research program. To this end, it is necessary to return to the comparison made repeatedly by Foucault between the Greek experience of aphrodisia, the Christian experience of the flesh and the modern experience of sexuality. This deviation will make it easier for us to understand the singularity of Christianity linked not to the repression of sexuality, but to a new form of governmentality, that of pastoral power, based on the "government of conduct", within which the body and its pleasures assume a central place. CHRISTIANITY , *LIBERTY , *DEFINITIONS , *HYPOTHESIS - Abstract
What role does Christianity, in particular the Christian account of flesh, play in Michel Foucault’s Critique of the present? Instead of adopting a genealogical perspective according to which Christianity tends to be conceived as the historical origin of modern dynamics of power, this article analyses the conceptual relevance of Flesh in Foucault’s account of critique.. To do so, the article investigates Foucault’s definition of Flesh as a “subjective experience” through which individuals transform themselves. Such an account of experience entails a reformulation of Georges Bataille’s approach to experience, which results in a paradoxical perspective on freedom. My hypothesis is that Foucault’s account of critique draws on and further develops the account of Flesh as a “subjective experience”. The conclusion of the article addresses some of the consequences of such a conceptual development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

I propose to elucidate the theoretical foundations of Merleau-Ponty’s thought to elaborate the way to a phenomenological aesthetics in his philosophy. For this, it is necessary to delimit the technical concepts to which Merleau-Ponty appeals and, renewing the Husserlian method, exposes them as a phenomenological opening to the sensible world. The concepts that will guide the investigation are: expression, flesh and the dynamics between the visible and the invisible. All of this will allow us to present the discoveries made by the French philosopher, while opening a series of consequences that still need reflection and analysis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this article is to show that the flesh and the body are endowed with different meanings according to the philosophical paradigm from which they are thought. Specifically, the author proposes various considerations about the flesh and the body based on four historical paradigms: substance, subject, existence and phenomenon. This journey makes it possible to recognize the semantics of both concepts and clear the way for their use in the theological sphere. Taking into account that Christianity can be defined as religion of the flesh, it concludes with the proposal to turn the flesh into the key to understanding reality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

NEUTROSOPHIC logic , *CITIZENSHIP , *PHILOSOPHERS , *DEMOCRACY , *ONTOLOGY - Abstract
There can be no doubt that Claude Lefort is an heir to the philosophy of Merleau-Ponty. Nevertheless, instead of employing the primacy of the body to explain both citizenship and democracy, Lefort defends, for this particular context, a necessary disembodiment of the citizen and of society. His intended purpose is an investigation of the symbolic mutation that opened up the modern horizon to the democratic experience of indeterminacy, an experience in which subjects cannot establish for themselves a definitive image, capable of providing them with a fixed place within the social field, and in which society is ceaselessly and to such a degree engaged with its own internal conflicts, it likewise fails to provide itself with an identity. The aim of the present article is to examine this strange affiliation, where the heir in a certain sense deconstructs his own inheritance; after all, unlike Merleau-Ponty, Lefort appears to deny the pertinence of the modern conception of the body. Towards elucidating said strangeness, I raise the hypothesis that Lefort privileges the notion of flesh central to the ontology of the later Merleau-Ponty, to the detriment of the philosopher’s earlier notion of one’s own body. This privileging would make room for indeterminacy as a required element for democracy to flourish, unencumbered by premodern hindrances connected to the image of identity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The medicine, during centuries, was an answer to the curative question defending human life, preserving or acquiring the person's phisical integrity. Nature and rationality, into relationship between physician and patient needs the weight of soul and body, in the christian and patristic thought too, where the sickness is deriving by immoderate behaviour against the nature belonging man with his body. This study will investigate the relationship between health and sickness, into the human person's equilibrium body-soul, in the Augustine's writings, in the Tractatus in Johannis Evangelium and in De Civitate Dei, on 419-420 or 420-421 A.D., to carachterize a perspective almost for present age's change. REFLECTION (Philosophy) , *AUTHORS , *PHENOMENOLOGY - Abstract
"Chiasm, Flesh and Nature. Merleau-Ponty and the Problem of Mediality". The notion of flesh, belonging to the last stage of Merleau-Ponty's thought, occupies a decisive place in specialized research on the author. However, few publications highlight the immense influence of the latter in current thought, especially in the post-humanist and materialist currents of contemporary philosophy. We propose, in the pages that follow, to analyze this category from the point of view of a philosophy of relationship, interpreting it from the figure of mediality or relating them to a notion of medium. For this, in the first part, we will elucidate the notion of medium used in Phenomenology of Perception and the postulation of experience as a starting point. In the second part, we will specify the multiple dimensions in which the notion of flesh unfolds in the late philosophy of the author. Once the epistemological, phenomenological and ontological aspects of the ontology of the flesh have been addressed, its philosophical potential will be analyzed, projecting the treatments for the problems of nature, an issue that we consider of vital importance for current philosophical reflections. This article show us the concepts of body and flesh from the philosophies of M. Merleau-Ponty and Michel Henry. Both philosophers stood out for retaking this theme in the contemporary tradition, establishing the contours of a philosophy of the body and the flesh. Therefore, the main concepts where there is divergence were highlighted topointing the intrigue established in the understanding of the flesh as an ontological structure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ABSTRACT: From different theoretical paradigms, feminism examines the different interconnected discriminations (sexism, racism, classism, capacitism, homophobia or speciesism). Among these, in this paper I will focus on the theoretical and practical links between the domination of women and that of nonhuman animals. For this I propose a biopolitical distinction, body/ flesh, in opposition to zoé/bíos (Agamben) or person/non-person (Esposito) distinctions. From here on I will articulate the outline of what I will call a feminist biopolitics of flesh to, on the one hand, analyze the category of flesh in its most negative and reifying aspect, examining surrogate pregnancy as an example of a biopolitics of flesh that shows the similarities between the oppression of women and that of nonhuman animals. On the other hand, and as a conclusion, I will pose a positive sense of the concept of incarnation.

TIME pressure , *INTERSUBJECTIVITY , *CONSCIOUSNESS , *CONSTITUTIONS , *MANUSCRIPTS - Abstract
The article considers in its first part the problems underlined by D. Franck regarding the role of the flesh in the constitution of time. It offers a presentation of his views on the constitution of bodilihood (Leiblichkeit) and corporeity (Körperlichkeit), the role of intersubjectivity, and the Husserlian characterization of the flow of time. The second part examines Husserl's late manuscripts on the constitution of time in order to show a new way of considering these problems. The role of the flesh in constitution and its relationship with intersubjectivity and the flow of time are stressed. The third part is concerned with the "double origin" (Franck) of time. This duality is associated with Husserl's twofold primality (Urtümlichkeit) according to which time can be referred back to the living and permanent present in which we are always placed and to a previous stage of time which emerges from a genesis in the past and is linked to flesh and intersubjectivity. It is argued that a twofold relationship of non-derivation and conditioning between consciousness and flesh (E. Ströker) can be associated with this approach. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The reality of mystery of incarnation, referring to Christ and to the created being, is found both in biblical revelation and in the continuing reflection of the Church, even up to our own time. Up to the Council of Chalcedon, Patristic writers of the first centuries affirmed that the totality of the Trinitarian mystery, revealed in the Incarnate Word, is the focus of the life of the Church, it is her soul and the reason for her being. Consequently, in confessing God's intimate and dialogical relationship with humankind, the human person attains salvation. Patristic authors understood that the mystery of God cannot be divided. This article proposes a critical and rational view of patristic interpretation, as a systematic reading of the event of the Incarnation. In this way contemporary theology can approach, in a more dynamic and vital way, the mystery of God, One and Three, in God's eternal decision to fill the human person in the totality of her or his essence. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate in what way and for what reason Dogmatic Theology cannot possibly embrace the docetic idea of a phantasmic Christ shaped by Marcion and traced by Tertullian in his Adversus Marcionem. We will conclude that the concept of 'phantom' --in its extreme version, i.e., irreducible to the polarized dichotomies in Western theology and metaphysics: matter and spirit, tangible and intelligible, soul and body, etc.-- is the true Antichrist and the blind spot in the Christological dogma. - Abstract
The concept of "chiasm" is central to the philosophy of the "late" Merleau-Ponty. My aim is to retrieve this concept in order to show that, within the framework of the new ontology outlined in Le visible et l'invisible and the notes written during the same period, its function corresponds to the function that imagination has performed throughout the history of philosophy. Thus, an ontology of chiasm necessarily involves reflecting upon an ontology of imagination. Furthermore, the concept of chiasm enables us to shed new light on the problem of subjectivity. Theology's university vocation consists in rendering reason capable of finding the universal logos in a particular event: Jesus of Nazareth. This vocation can be perceived as a necessary discernment of the rationalities that permeate the very core of today's universities. For this reason, the author provides an overview of the rationalities that, being open to faith, currently predominate in the world. Concretely, the author analyzes «manifestation» in M. Heidegger, «flesh» in E. Levinas, and «donation» in J.-L. Marion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This article aims to analyze the concept of "flesh" (sarx) in apostle Paul's anthropology, by means of a bibliographical research. The apostle uses this expression in two ways: one morally neutral and one in a negative meaning, as a reality antagonistic to God. In a morally neutral way, Paul uses the term in several ways, but the most common usage is as a negative force, opposed to God and the Spirit of God. In the Pauline concept, the "flesh" is not something in man, but it is the human being himself, in the fullness of his ontological reality, discarding submission to God and arrogantly assuming the autonomous control of his life. So it is not possible to "be in the flesh" and "be in the Spirit" simultaneously. The Christian person is no longer in the flesh, no longer walks according to the flesh. However, in this area also comes up the reality of the "already, but not yet". The Christian is no longer in the flesh, but can go back to the practices of the flesh. Due to this, the constant practice of sanctification and communion with God is part of Christian living. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
We show that the appearing of the husserlian hylè is problematic and it leads us to the question of the self-donation of life as condition of a phenomenology of perception. To solve this problem, we establish the conditions of a dialogue between Michel Henry, who takes emphasis on the auto affection of the immanent life and Merleau-Ponty, who prefers developing an intentional conception of the mundane body. Such a dialogue makes it possible to identify a common prejudice whose overtaking could offer the possibility of a solution to the problem of the sensitive appearing from life. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Mora Moreno, Sergio Antonio
- Abstract
This article analyzes the novel La carne de René [Rene's Flesh] by the Cuban writer Virgilio Piñera, from point of view of the construction of the hegemonic discourse - that I call "fleshed"- which builds and defines the bodies of its characters and their subjectivities. This paper, then, inquires into the discursive mechanisms (such as parody and the struggles between power-knowledge about the body) that constitute the flesh discourse and how it operates in the individuals of this literary universe (especially in René, the protagonist), so that they can be understood as subjects made up of mere flesh subjected to pain, and therefore unable to build a spiritual life. Despite exercising resistance to the flesh discourse, René succumbs to it, failing to propose an individuality beyond this discourse. Because of this, he has no choice but to accept that he is a being made of flesh and nothing more. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We argue that this fourth person challenges the logic of the trinitarian theology. Since the fourth person is irreducible to the divine or the human, or to the matter and the spirit, its nature falls beyond the ontology. Consequently, an extra-grammar fourth person, one beyond syntax, is required to verbalise it., Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educación

In light of Rosi Braidotti’s nomadism and the grotesque studied by Bakhtin, the aim is to open a way to affirmatively think the body in literature. After analyzing the myths of descent through Ricoeur’s anthropology, the images of the hollow in Gabriela Ponce’s Sanguínea (2019) are observed in order to propose this as a figuration of the body, that is, the flesh as hollow which ungrounds normative discourses of the body. Through this figuration, a connection is proposed between the writing of the body and the development of the Renaissance grotesque. In this connection we find the necessary laughter to write about the flesh, a destabilizing laughter of the reign of the Subject as Selfhood (universal, masculine, white, heterosexual, rational).

Christology aims to universalize the evangelical narrative. For this they are necessary certain mediations of reason that make this task possible. The author of this article, inspired by contemporary phenomenology, proposes as valid mediations the «manifestation», the «flesh» and the «gift» in order to devise a Christological proposal of a Trinitarian nature. In this way, Christology would abandon the hegemony of the thought of being (analogia entis) to open up to a new horizon characterized by the thought of appearing (analogia incarnationis).

While the topic of Spanish intellectual Miguel de Unamuno's relationship with Portugal has received a good deal of scholarly attention, this has focused on affirming Unamuno's longstanding interest in Portuguese literature and history, and on confirming the existence of relationships of influence between Unamuno and prominent Portuguese writers. This paper, instead, will consider how Unamuno fits Portugal into his broader vision of Iberia as a dialectical unity, and will demonstrate how Unamuno's use of a corporeal vocabulary, of carne y hueso, contributes to the fleshing out of his vision of a dialectical Iberia, in which Portugal plays an integral role.

What is the cinema of the body? And the cinema of the animal-body? And again: can cinema give us the presence of the body? On the basis of the Deleuzian concept of the cinematographic body, in this essay I will try to conduct – with the help of some exemplary films, “genre” and author films – an analysis of the cinema of the body and of the animal-body which, through the representation of monstrous bodies and expendable bodies, of animal and animalized bodies, through the becoming animal of visible and invisible bodies, can help to restore the discourse to the body, to bring to light a new narrativity of the body of the living and to force the viewer to believe in the body, in the bodies, to believe in the flesh: since the cinema of the animal-body is always political cinema, as such it can lead to political action, an action understood as a change in our posture in the face of otherness., Che cos’è il cinema del corpo?

This article examines how the figuration of the human in cinema articulates the notions of flesh, body, identity, character, figure, and image. We will resort to the monster as a figure that both explains and disturbs the usual process of figuration, revealing a split between bodies and identities and disinventing the body to expose the reality of the flesh. To this end, we will investigate the concepts of “figure” and “flesh” and analyze three horror films that instigate the same the sensation of the uncanny: Invasion of the body snatchers (Don Siegel, 1956), The thing (John Carpenter, 1982) and It follows (David Robert Mitchell, 2014).

This article sets out to establish the distinctive traits of the three stages of the erotic reduction advanced by J.-L. Marion in contrast to the epistemic reduction to the cogito and the ontological reduction to Being. First, in the search for an assurance involving the other, the self-certainty of the cogito is replaced by the question "¿Am I loved from elsewhere?". Second, as the question cannot be answered by the way of self-love, a radicalized formulation must be given: "¿Can I love as the first one?" This new stage brings forth the analysis of phenomena in which each partner gives the other what he does not have on his own and at the same time has at his disposal only to offer it to the other, i.e., meaning, flesh, pledge, joy, faithfulness, and good-by=God be with you. Third, as this logic of love discloses the priority of the other, a final formulation of the reduction is afforded: "¡You, you have loved as the first one!" Marion contends that, through this precedence, God's love is revealed. A final assessment of Marion's contributions outlines overlappings and contrasts with other phenomenological positions.

Based on post-structuralism's proposition, adopted by Scott, that "meanings are not fixed in a culture's lexicon", the present article aims to discuss the meanings of two medieval Spanish words - cuerpo and carne - in hagiographic texts written by Gonzalo of Berceo in the first half of the century XIII, Vida de Santo Domingo de Silos and Vida de Santa Oria, from the gender category perspective. We want to verify as this category is articulated to Berceo's conceptions about the body and the flesh, looking for ambiguities and conflicts.

- Abstract
The aim of the following work is to explain how the elaboration of an ontology of nature by Merleau-Ponty belongs to an attempt of developing a thought of being which does not reduce it to an element of the abstract thought, but takes into account the concrete experience of being in the world. In this respect, the concepts of intercorporeality, negativity, and dialectics are fundamental. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
In this article some features of the influence of American writer William Faulkner in the narrative of Juan Carlos Onetti's is analyzed. This work represents a reading on three topics of systematic theology: faith, God and the flesh; as they appear in both authors' work. In the first part, the theory developed by the Mexican Carlos Fuentes is taken as a framework of analysis that explores the three reasons why the authors of the Latin American boom adopted Faulkner's narrative style: the myth of the fictional place, defeat and circular time as a way of eternal return. In the second one, examples of Faulkner's influence in several authors of the so-called Latin American boom are offered, with a special reference of Juan Carlos Onetti's. The work focuses on the novels La vida breve and El Astillero of Onetti's and Absalom, Absalom! Of Faulkner's. In the conclusions, we reflect on the way the issues of faith, God and the flesh are presented in the narrative of both authors, the kind of theology they reflect - Catholic or Protestant- and their points of convergence and divergence. An hermeneutical methodology has been chosen. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

METAPSYCHOLOGY , *APOLOGETICS (Rhetoric) , *PHENOMENOLOGY , *HISTORY of psychoanalysis - Abstract
This article aims to explain how Ricoeur translates Freudian metapsychology from the individual to the collective, given that the Ricoeurian vindication of the libidinal economy instinct is obstacle in this translation. Our hypothesis is that this conversion will be possible through two intermediate steps. The first is to have gathered psychoanalysis and history under the larger genus of otherness, as flesh, while In Oneself as Another they were treated within the large genus of otherness but as consciousness and as other, respectively. The second step is to give a transcendental twist to his research, which will lead him to ask for the structures of collective existence that make the application of psychoanalytic categories possible, instead of wondering about how to perform this translation. Within this turn Ricoeur reduces psychoanalytic categories to the phenomenology of the capable human and from that anthropology to a temporal ontology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The scope of the present article is to evidence the confluence of two different kind of speech: the rational and the poetic one, moving from the Works of Edith Stein and Christophe Lebreton. Both types of speech, usually presented as opposed, belong to the realm of the human spirit - incarnated in time. Therefore, they do not exclude each other but they meet themselves at the event of flesh. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper wants to ask the question about the possibility to bring closer the phenomenologies of Jan Patočka and Michel Henry from the common ground of the description of the appearance as such. It also deals with the question of the differences between them and of their respective aporia. We will examine how we can solve them and we will begin a possible dialogue between both of them about such problematic solutions.
