AIE-active compounds have lately attracted considerable attention owing to their versatile applications, especially in OLED and bioimaging. Herein, a series of coumarin-3-formylhydrazone derivatives (CFH-1, 2, 3 and 4) were developed for investigating their AIE and solid-state luminescence behaviors. All the obtained compounds emit varying degrees of solid-state fluorescence. CFH-1 and 2 show the typical AIE characteristics, while CFH-3 and 4 exhibit stronger solution fluorescence than their aggregation-induced emission. The single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis of CFH-1 and CFH-3 showed that both of them adopt planar conformation and the CH···O hydrogen bonding plays a crucial role in their crystal packing. Meanwhile, there is a notable difference between them. Successive π-π stacking interaction was observed in the crystal packing of CFH-1, while the crystals of CFH-3 contain dimeric π-π stacking interaction. Their distinct crystal packing interactions result in their different fluorescence properties. Moreover, both CFH-1 and CFH-2 displayed excellent bioimaging performances in living cells. The excimer emission based on discrete π-stacked dimers of polycyclic π-systems has generated significant interest in the structure-luminescence relationship of excimers owing to their ultra-large Stokes shift. Herein, a series of excimer emissive luminogens were obtained by conjugating different polycyclic aromatic aldehydes (anthraldehyde, pyrenealdehyde and perylenealdehyde) with triphenylmethylamine. In crystalline states, all the molecules were arranged in the form of π-stacked arene dimers which were spatially isolated from each other by the bulky triphenylmethyl groups, and thus emitted bright excimer emission. The anthracene and pyrene derivatives showed fluorescence enhancement responses to grinding and the enhanced fluorescence could recover to the original state upon heating. The aggregation-induced emission (AIE) properties of them were dependent on the shapes and sizes of the polycyclic aromatic groups. The pyrene derivative showed the most excellent excimer-based AIE behavior among them. All of them were more apt to exhibit the excimer emission when formed nanoparticles with pluronic F-127 than that without pluronic F-127. Mesotrione, topramezone, tembotrione, and sulcotrione are four types of 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxidase (HPPD) inhibitor herbicides that are extensively employed in agricultural practices, but their usage also leads to environmental pollution and poses risks to human health. A probe (E)−1-((2-(pyridin-2-yl) hydrazineylidene) methyl) naphthalen-2-ol (CHMN) based on chelation enhancement (CHEF) effect synthesized. CHMN was first chelated with Zn2+ to form a probe system with green, which can be further used to detect mesotrione, topramezone, tembotrione and sulcotrione in complicated environment. CHMN-Zn2+ detection of four pesticides was accurate, with an excellent linear relationship between 0 and 100 μM. The detection limits were LOD mesotrione = 7.79 μM, LOD topramezone = 1.91 μM, LOD tembotrione = 1.38 μM and LOD sulcotrione = 2.43 μM. The detection time is 1 min, and it is successfully applied in real water sample and bioimaging. This work can provide a novel method for studying the migration and behavior of environmental pollutants. The sensitive detection of dipicolinic acid (DPA) as an excellent biomarker of Bacillus anthracis , especially through visual point-of-care testing, is significant for accurate and rapid diagnosis of anthrax to timely prevent anthrax disease or biological terrorist attack. Herein, an acoustofluidics-based colorimetric platform with the integrated ratiometric fluorescence probe (INT-probe) was fabricated, which improved the sensitivity of visual detection for DPA and overcame the poor reproducibility of the existing acoustofluidics-assisted colorimetric analysis. For the design of INT-probe, Eu3+-EDTA complex as sensing moiety was grafted onto the surface of blue organosilane-functionalized carbon dots (SiCDs)-doped SiO 2 nanoparticles (NPs). Upon exposure to DPA, Eu3+ was sensitized by DPA to emit red luminescence, while the SiCDs as reference inside the SiO 2 NPs still kept the blue fluorescence unchanged. Attributed to the acoustic radiation force-driven enrichment of the INT-probe, slight color changes caused by low concentration of DPA could be amplified and distinguished by naked-eyes/smartphone. With the increase of DPA concentration, obvious color variations of INT-probe/DPA aggregates from blue to pink could be observed, and the color information of the fluorescent aggregates was converted to red, green and blue values for quantitative analysis, whose lowest detectable concentration reached 100 nM that is about 2–3 orders of magnitude lower than the infectious dosage of Bacillus anthracis spores (60 μM). Importantly, benefiting from the great color signal enhancement by acoustofluidic sensing platform, the usage of Eu3+ reduced to as low as 0.273 μmol per gram of SiO 2 NPs, providing a meaningful way to utilize lanthanide resource efficiently. In clinical diagnosis of cancer, the monitoring of single tumor marker may result in many false and missed results, while simultaneous detection of multiple tumor markers should be more accuracy and effective. Here, we report a new strategy that salt-induced gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) aggregation lights up fluorescence of dual-color DNA-silver nanoclusters-aptamer (DNA-AgNCs-apta) for the simultaneous monitoring of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA125). The dual-color aptasensor system is composed of green-emitting DNA-AgNCs with CEA aptamer (gDNA 1 -AgNCs-apta 1) and red-emitting DNA-AgNCs with CA125 aptamer (rDNA 2 -AgNCs-apta 2) in the ratio of 1:1 in volume. Upon addition of AuNPs, gDNA 1 -AgNCs-apta 1 and/or rDNA 2 -AgNCs-apta 2 are flexibly adsorbed onto the surface of AuNPs by terminal aptamer(s), which prevents salt-induced AuNPs aggregation under high salt condition and results in fluorescence quenching based on surface plasmon enhanced energy transfer (SPEET). With the addition of CEA and/or CA125, the target(s) and corresponding aptamer(s) coordinate to form the complex, keeping DNA-AgNCs-apta(s) far away from the surface of AuNPs and making AuNPs aggregated in high salt medium. The AuNPs aggregation leads to the recovery of fluorescence signals of DNA-AgNCs-apta(s) due to weakened SPEET. Utilizing the fluorescence aptasensor system, the limit of detection of CEA and CA125 are as low as 7.5 pg·mL-1 and 0.015 U·mL-1, respectively. The proposed method can be applied to the selective and simultaneous determination of CEA and CA125 in human serum.
