The experiment was to study the effect of Piper sarmentosum extract (PSE) on growth performance, immune organ index, immune globulin, serum biochemical indices and antioxidant function of chicks. A total of 500 one-day-old Danzhou chicks with similar body weight and good health were divided into five groups, with five replicates in each group and 20 chicks in each replicate. The chicks in BC group (control group) were fed with basal diet, the chicks in PC group (antibiotic group) were fed with basal diet supplemented with 200 mg/kg enrofloxacin, and the chicks in PSE1 group, PSE2 group and PSE3 group were fed with basal diet supplemented with 100, 200 and 300 mg/kg PSE, respectively. The feeding period was 28 d. The results showed that the catalase activity in PSE1 group was significantly increased (P<0.05). The total antioxidant capacity in PSE1 group and PSE2 group was significantly increased (P<0.05). The serum uric acid content and malondialdehyde content were significantly decreased in PSE2 group and PSE3 group (P<0.05). The experiment indcates that PSE supplementation can improve the growth performance and antioxidant performance of chicks, and reduce the content of uric acid in serum, the appropriate dosage of PSE is 200 mg/kg.
