Search

NGC 5024 (M53) is the most distant globular cluster (GC) with known pulsars. In this study, we report the discovery of a new binary millisecond pulsar PSR J1312+1810E (M53E) and present the new timing solutions for M53B to M53E, based on 22 observations from the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST).These discoveries and timing work benefit from FAST's high sensitivity. We find that M53C is the only isolated millisecond pulsar known in this distant globular cluster, with a spin period of 12.53 ms and spin period derivative of $5.26 \times 10^{-20} \, \rm s \; s^{-1}$. Our results reveal the orbital periods of 47.7, 5.8, and 2.4 days for M53B, D, and E, respectively. The companions, with a mass of 0.25, 0.27, and 0.18 ${\rm M}_\odot$, respectively, are likely to be white dwarf stars; if they are extended objects, they don't eclipse the pulsars. We find no X-ray counterparts for these millisecond pulsars in archival $Chandra$ images in the band of 0.3-8 keV. The characteristics of this pulsar population are similar to the population of millisecond pulsars in the Galactic disk, as expected from the low stellar density of M53., 10 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in ApJL

We report the observations of FRB 20220912A using the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST). We conducted 17 observations totaling 8.67 hours and detected a total of 1076 bursts with an event rate up to 390 hr$^{-1}$. The cumulative energy distribution can be well described using a broken power-law function with the lower and higher-energy slopes of $-0.38\pm0.02$ and $-2.07\pm0.07$, respectively. We also report the L band ($1-1.5$ GHz) spectral index of the synthetic spectrum of FRB~20220912A bursts, which is $-2.6\pm0.21$. The average rotation measure (RM) value of the bursts from FRB~20220912A is $-0.08\pm5.39\ \rm rad\,m^{-2}$, close to 0 $\rm rad\,m^{-2}$ and maintain relatively stable over two months. Most bursts have nearly 100\% linear polarization. About 45\% of the bursts have circular polarization with SNR $>$ 3, and the highest circular polarization degree can reach 70\%. Our observations suggest that FRB~20220912A is located in a relatively clean local environment with complex circular polarization characteristics. These various behaviors imply that the mechanism of circular polarization of FRBs likely originates from an intrinsic radiation mechanism, such as coherent curvature radiation or inverse Compton scattering inside the magnetosphere of the FRB engine source (e.g. a magnetar)., 15 pages, 11 figures, 2 tables, submitted to ApJ, comments are welcome!

The possible time variation of the fundamental constants of nature has been an active subject of research in modern physics. In this paper, we propose a new method to investigate such possible time variation of the speed of light $c$ using the updated Hubble diagram of high-redshift standard candles including Type Ia Supernovae (SNe Ia) and high-redshift quasars (based on UV-X relation). Our findings show that the SNe Ia Pantheon sample, combined with currently available sample of cosmic chronometers, would produce robust constraints on the speed of light at the level of $c/c_0=1.03\pm0.03$. For the Hubble diagram of UV+X ray quasars acting as a new type of standard candles, we obtain $c/c_0=1.19\pm0.07$. Therefore, our results confirm that there is no strong evidence for the deviation from the constant speed of light up to $z\sim 2$. Moreover, we discuss how our technique might be improved at much higher redshifts ($z\sim5$), focusing on future measurements of the acceleration parameter $X(z)$ with gravitational waves (GWs) from binary neutron star mergers. As one of the possible extensions of Einstein's General Theory of Relativity, it has been recently suggested that the presence of spacetime torsion could solve problems of the very early and the late-time universe undergoing accelerating phases. In this paper, we use the latest observations of high-redshift data, coming from multiple measurements of quasars and baryon acoustic oscillations, to phenomenologically constrain such cosmological model in the framework of Einstein-Cartan (EC) endowed with spacetime torsion. Such newly compiled quasar datasets in the cosmological analysis is crucial to this aim, since it will extend the Hubble diagram to high-redshift range in which predictions from different cosmologies can be distinguished. Our results show that out of all the candidate models, the torsion plus cosmological constant model is strongly favoured by the current high-redshift data, where torsion itself would be expected to yield the current cosmic acceleration. Specially, in the framework of Friedmann-like cosmology with torsion, the determined Hubble constant is in very good agreement with that derived from the Planck 2018 CMB results. On the other hand, our results are compatible with zero spatial curvature and there is no significant deviation from flat spatial hypersurfaces. Finally, we check the robustness of high-redshift observations by placing constraints on the torsion parameter $\alpha$, which is strongly consistent with other recent works focusing on torsion effect on the primordial helium-4 abundance., Comment: 23 pages, 5 figures, accepted for publication in JCAP

In this paper, the phase structure of the Hayward-AdS black hole (BH) is studied using shadow formalism. It has been found that the shadow radius is a monotonic function of the horizon radius and can therefore play an equivalent role to the horizon radius in characterizing the thermodynamics of Hayward-AdS BH. The thermodynamic phase transition (PT) of the Hayward-AdS BH is investigated with the shadow radius. It is shown that as the magnetic charge increases, the shadow radius becomes larger, while the coexistence temperature becomes lower. The thermal profile of the Hayward-AdS BH is established by combining the temperature diagram and the shadow cast diagram, which shows that for a fixed magnetic charge, the temperature of the Hayward-AdS BH increases with the pressure while the region of the thermal profile decreases with the pressure. In particular, the temperature of the Hayward-AdS BH follows an N-type change trend when it is smaller than the critical temperature. Long distance communication protocols cannot ignore the existence of the Earth's gravitational field and its effects on quantum states. In this work, we show a very general method to consider the effects of the Earth's gravitational field on continuous-variable quantum key distribution protocols. Our results show that the Earth's gravitational field erodes the ability of the two parties to perform QKD in all the protocols. However, our findings also exhibit some interesting features, i.e., the key rates initially increase for a specific range of height parameter $h\simeq r_A/2$ and then gradually decrease with the increasing of the orbits of satellite $h$. A possible explanation is also provided in our analysis, considering the fact that gravitational frequency shift and special relativistic effects play different roles in the key rates. In this paper, we go further and propose a cosmological model-independent approach to simultaneously determine the Hubble constant and cosmic curvature with strong lensing time-delay measurements, without any prior assumptions regarding the content of the Universe. The data we use comprises the recent compilation of six well studied strongly lensed quasars, while the cosmic chronometer data are utilized to reconstruct distances via cosmographic parameters. In the framework of third-order Taylor expansion and (2, 1) order Pad\'{e} approximation for for cosmographic analysis, our results provides model-independent estimation of the Hubble constant $H_0 = 72.24^{+2.73}_{-2.52} ~km~s^{-1}~Mpc^{-1}$ and $H_0 = 72.45^{+1.95}_{-2.02} ~km~s^{-1}~Mpc^{-1}$, which is well consistent with that derived from the local distance ladder by SH0ES collaboration. The measured cosmic curvature $\Omega_k=0.062^{+0.117}_{-0.078}$ and $\Omega_k=0.069^{+0.116}_{-0.103}$ shows that zero spatial curvature is supported by the current observations of strong lensing time delays and cosmic chronometers. Imposing the prior of spatial flatness leads to more precise (at 1.6$\%$ level) determination of the Hubble constant $H_0=70.47^{+1.14}_{-1.15} ~km~s^{-1}~Mpc^{-1}$ and $H_0=71.66^{+1.15}_{-1.57} ~km~s^{-1}~Mpc^{-1}$, a value located between the results from \textit{Planck} and SH0ES collaboration. If a prior of local (SH0ES) $H_0$ measurement is adopted, the curvature parameter constraint can be further improved to $\Omega_k=0.123^{+0.060}_{-0.046}$ and $\Omega_k=0.101^{+0.090}_{-0.072}$, supporting no significant deviation from a flat universe. Finally, we also discuss the effectiveness of Pad\'{e} approximation in reconstructing the cosmic expansion history within the redshift range of $z\sim2.3$, considering its better performance in the Bayes Information Criterion (BIC)., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ

Although the spatial curvature has been measured with very high precision, it still suffers from the well known cosmic curvature tension. In this paper, we propose an improved method to determine the cosmic curvature, by using the simulated data of binary neutron star mergers observed by the second generation space-based DECi-hertz Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (DECIGO). By applying the Hubble parameter observations of cosmic chronometers to the DECIGO standard sirens, we explore different possibilities of making measurements of the cosmic curvature referring to a distant past: one is to reconstruct the Hubble parameters through the Gaussian process without the influence of hypothetical models, and the other is deriving constraints on $\Omega_K$ in the framework of non-flat $\Lambda$ cold dark matter model. It is shown that in the improved method DECIGO could provide a reliable and stringent constraint on the cosmic curvature ($\Omega_{K} = -0.007\pm0.016$), while we could only expect the zero cosmic curvature to be established at the precision of $\Delta \Omega_K=0.12$ in the second model-dependent method. Therefore, our results indicate that in the framework of methodology proposed in this paper, the increasing number of well-measured standard sirens in DECIGO could significantly reduce the bias of estimations for cosmic curvature. Such constraint is also comparable to the precision of Planck 2018 results with the newest cosmic microwave background (CMB) observations ($\Delta \Omega_{K} \approx 0.018$), based on the concordance $\Lambda$CDM model., Comment: 14 pages, 7 figures

A model-independent test of the cosmic curvature parameter $\Omega_k$ is very important in cosmology. In order to estimate cosmic curvature from cosmological probes like standard candles, one has to be able to measure the luminosity distance $D_L(z)$, it's derivative with respect to redshift $D'_L(z)$ and independently know the expansion rate $H(z)$ at the same redshift. In this paper, we study how such an idea could be implemented with the future generation of space-based DECi-hertz Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (DECIGO), in combination with cosmic chronometers providing cosmology-independent $H(z)$ data. Our results show that for the Hubble diagram of simulated DECIGO data acting as a new type of standard siren, it would be able to constrain cosmic curvature with the precision of $\Delta \Omega_k= 0.09$ with the currently available sample of 31 measurements of Hubble parameters. In the framework of the third generation ground-based gravitational wave detectors, the spatial curvature is constrained to be $\Delta\Omega_k= 0.13$ for Einstein Telescope (ET). More interestingly, compared to other approaches aiming for model-independent estimations of spatial curvature, our analysis also achieves the reconstruction of the evolution of $\Omega_k(z)$, in the framework of a model-independent method of Gaussian processes (GP) without assuming a specific form. In this paper we analyse the implications of the latest cosmological data sets to test the Etherington's distance duality relation (DDR), which connects the luminosity distance $D_L$ and angular diameter distance $D_A$ at the same redshift. For $D_L$ we consider the simulated data of gravitational waves from the third-generation gravitational wave detector (the Einstein Telescope, ET), which can be considered as standard candles (or standard siren), while the angular diameter distances $D_A$ are derived from the newly-compiled sample of compact radio quasars observed by very-long-baseline interferometry (VLBI), which represents a type of new cosmological standard ruler. Alleviating the absorption and scattering effects of dust in the Universe, this will create a valuable opportunity to directly test DDR at much higher precision with the combination of gravitational wave (GW) and electromagnetic (EM) signals. Our results show that, with the combination of the current radio quasar observations, the duality-distance relation can be verified at the precision of $10^{-2}$. Moreover, the Einstein Telescope ET would produce more robust constraints on the validity of such distance duality relation (at the precision of $10^{-3}$), with a larger sample of compact milliarcsecond radio quasars detected in future VLBI surveys., Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures

Cosmological applications of HII galaxies (HIIGx) and giant extragalactic HII regions (GEHR) to construct the Hubble diagram at higher redshifts require knowledge of the "$L$--$��$" relation of the standard candles used. In this paper, we study the properties of a large sample of 156 sources (25 high-$z$ HII galaxies, 107 local HII galaxies, and 24 giant extragalactic HII regions) compiled by Terlevich et al.(2015). Using the the cosmological distances reconstructed through two new cosmology-independent methods, we investigate the correlation between the H$��$ emission-line luminosity $L$ and ionized-gas velocity dispersion $��$. The method is based on non-parametric reconstruction using the measurements of Hubble parameters from cosmic clocks, as well as the simulated data of gravitational waves from the third-generation gravitational wave detector (the Einstein Telescope, ET), which can be considered as standard sirens. Assuming the emission-line luminosity versus ionized gas velocity dispersion relation, $\log L ($H$��) = ��\log ��($H$��)+��$, we find the full sample provides a tight constraint on the correlation parameters. However, similar analysis done on three different sub-samples seems to support the scheme of treating HII galaxies and giant extragalactic HII regions with distinct strategies. Using the corrected "$L$--$��$" relation for the HII observational sample beyond the current reach of Type Ia supernovae, we obtain a value of the matter density parameter, $��_{m}=0.314\pm0.054$ (calibrated with standard clocks) and $��_{m}=0.311\pm0.049$ (calibrated with standard sirens), in the spatially flat $��$CDM cosmology., 9 pages, 5 figures, 1 table, accepted for publication in ApJ

In this paper, by using the recently compiled set of 120 intermediate-luminosity quasars (ILQSO) observed in a single-frequency VLBI survey, we propose an improved model-independent method to probe cosmic curvature parameter $\Omega_k$ and make the first measurement of the cosmic curvature referring to a distant past, with redshifts up to $z\sim 3.0$. Compared with other methods, the proposed one involving the quasar data achieves constraints with higher precision in this redshift range. More importantly, our results indicate that the measured $\Omega_k$ is in good agreement with zero cosmic curvature, implying that there is no significant deviation from a flat Universe. Finally, we investigate the possibility of testing $\Omega_k$ with a much higher accuracy using quasars observed in the future VLBI surveys. It is shown that our method could provide a reliable and tight constraint on the prior $\Omega_k$ and one can expect the zero cosmic curvature to be established at the precision of $\Delta\Omega_k\sim 10^{-2}$ with 250 well-observed radio quasars., Comment: 11 pages, 2 figures, accepted for publication in Physics of the Dark Universe

In this paper, we use multi-frequency angular size measurements of 58 intermediate-luminosity quasars reaching the redshifts $z\sim 3$ and demonstrate that they can be used as standard rulers for cosmological inference. Our results indicate that, for the majority of radio-sources in our sample their angular sizes are inversely proportional to the observing frequency. From the physical point of view it means that opacity of the jet is governed by pure synchrotron self-absorption, i.e. external absorption does not play any significant role in the observed angular sizes at least up to 43 GHz. Therefore, we use the value of the intrinsic metric size of compact milliarcsecond radio quasars derived in a cosmology independent manner from survey conducted at 2 GHz and rescale it properly according to predictions of the conical jet model. This approach turns out to work well and produce quite stringent constraints on the matter density parameter $\Omega_m$ in the flat $\Lambda$CDM model and Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati braneworld model. In order to achieve a deeper understanding of gravity theories, it is important to further investigate the thermodynamic properties of black hole at the critical point, besides the phase transition and critical behaviors. In this paper, by using Maxwell's equal area law, we choose $T,Q,��$ as the state parameters and study the phase equilibrium problem of general $(n+1)$-dimensional RN-AdS black holes thermodynamic system. The boundary of the two-phase coexistence region and its isotherm and isopotential lines are presented, which may provide theoretical foundation for studying the phase transition and phase structure of black hole systems., 10 pages, 26 figures

We constrain the scalar field dark energy model with an inverse power-law potential, i.e., $V(��)\propto ��^{-��}$ ($��>0$), from a set of recent cosmological observations by compiling an updated sample of Hubble parameter measurements including 30 independent data points. Our results show that the constraining power of the updated sample of $H(z)$ data with the HST prior on $H_0$ is stronger than those of the SCP Union2 and Union2.1 compilations. A recent sample of strong gravitational lensing systems is also adopted to confine the model even though the results are not significant. A joint analysis of the strong gravitational lensing data with the more restrictive updated Hubble parameter measurements and the Type Ia supernovae data from SCP Union2 indicates that the recent observations still can not distinguish whether dark energy is a time-independent cosmological constant or a time-varying dynamical component., 21 pages, 3 figures, revised version accepted by JCAP

The validity of distance duality relation, $\eta=D_L(z)(1+z)^{-2}/D_A(z)=1$, an exact result required by the Etherington reciprocity theorem, where $D_A(z)$ and $D_L(z)$ are the angular and luminosity distances, plays an essential part in cosmological observations and model constraints. In this paper, we investigate some consequences of such a relation by assuming $\eta$ a constant or a function of the redshift. In order to constrain the parameters concerning $\eta$, we consider two groups of cluster gas mass fraction data including 52 X-ray luminous galaxy clusters observed by Chandra in the redshift range $0.3\sim 1.273$ and temperature range $T_{\rm gas}> 4$ keV, under the assumptions of two different temperature profiles [1]. We find that the constant temperature profile is in relatively good agreement with no violation of the distance duality relation for both parameterizations of $\eta$, while the one with temperature gradient (the Vikhlinin et al. temperature profile) seems to be incompatible even at 99% CL., Comment: 12 pages, 4 pages. In order to test the possible interaction between dark energy and dark matter, we investigate observational constraints on a phenomenological scenario, in which the ratio between the dark energy and matter densities is proportional to the power law case of the scale factor, $r\equiv (\rho_X/\rho_m)\propto a^{\xi}$. By using the Markov chain Monte Carlo method, we constrain the phenomenological interacting dark energy model with the newly revised $H(z)$ data, as well as the cosmic microwave background (CMB) observation from the 7-year Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP7) results, the baryonic acoustic oscillation (BAO) observation from the spectroscopic Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) data release 7 (DR7) galaxy sample and the type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) from Union2 set. The best-fit values of the model parameters are $\Omega_{m0}=0.27_{-0.02}^{+0.02}(1\sigma)_{-0.03}^{+0.04}(2\sigma)$, $\xi=3.15_{-0.50}^{+0.48}(1\sigma)_{-0.71}^{+0.72}(2\sigma)$, and $w_X=-1.05_{-0.14}^{+0.15}(1\sigma)_{-0.21}^{+0.21}(2\sigma)$, which are more stringent than previous results. These results show that the standard $\Lambda$CDM model without any interaction remains a good fit to the recent observational data; however, the interaction that the energy transferring from dark matter to dark energy is slightly favored over the interaction from dark energy to dark matter. It is also shown that the $H(z)$ data can give more stringent constraints on the phenomenological interacting scenario when combined to CMB and BAO observations, and the confidence regions of $H(z)$+BAO+CMB, SNe+BAO+CMB, and $H(z)$+SNe+BAO+CMB combinations are consistent with each other., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, 1 table. With the measurement of the electromagnetic (EM) counterpart, a gravitational wave (GW) event could be treated as a standard siren. As a novel cosmological probe, GW standard sirens will bring significant implications for cosmology. In this paper, by considering the coincident detections of GW and associated $\gamma$ ray burst (GRB), we find that only about 400 GW bright standard sirens from binary neutron star mergers could be detected in a 10-year observation of the Einstein Telescope and the THESEUS satellite mission. Based on this mock sample, we investigate the implications of GW standard sirens on the interaction between dark energy and dark matter. In our analysis, four viable interacting dark energy (IDE) models, with interaction forms $Q=3\beta H \rho_{\mathrm{de}}$ and $Q=3 \beta H \rho_{\mathrm{c}}$, are considered. Compared with the traditional EM observational data such as CMB, BAO, and SN Ia, the combination of both GW and EM observations could effectively break the degeneracies between different cosmological parameters and provide more stringent cosmological fits. We find that the GW data could play a more important role for determining the interaction in the models with $Q=3 \beta H \rho_{\mathrm{c}}$, compared with the models with $Q=3\beta H \rho_{\mathrm{de}}$. We also show that constraining IDE models with mock GW data based on different fiducial $H_0$ values yield different results, indicating that accurate determination of $H_0$ is significant for exploring the interaction between dark energy and dark matter., Comment: 17 pages, 5 figures

We present a new analysis of HST, Spitzer telescope imaging and VLT imaging and spectroscopic data of a bright lensed galaxy at $z$=1.0334 in the lensing cluster Abell~2667. Using this high-resolution imaging we present an updated lens model that allows us to fully understand the lensing geometry and reconstruct the lensed galaxy in the source plane. This giant arc gives a unique opportunity to peer into the structure of a high-redshift disk galaxy. We find that the lensed galaxy of Abell 2667 is a typical spiral galaxy with morphology similar to the structure of its counterparts at higher redshift $z\sim 2$. The surface brightness of the reconstructed source galaxy in the z$_{850}$ band reveals the central surface brightness $I(0)=20.28\pm0.22$ mag arcsec$^{-2}$ and the characteristic radius $r_s=2.01\pm0.16$ kpc at redshift $z \sim 1$. The morphological reconstruction in different bands shows obvious negative radial color gradients for this galaxy. Moreover, the redder central bulge tends to contain a metal-rich stellar population, rather than being heavily reddened by dust due to high and patchy obscuration. We analyze the VIMOS/IFU spectroscopic data and find that, in the given wavelength range ($\sim 1800-3200$ \AA), the combined arc spectrum of the source galaxy is characterized by a strong continuum emission with strong UV absorption lines (FeII and MgII) and shows the features of a typical starburst Wolf-Rayet galaxy NGC5253. More specifically, we have measured the EWs of FeII and MgII lines in the Abell 2667 spectrum, and obtained similar values for the same wavelength interval of the NGC5253 spectrum. We study the redshift distribution of two samples of early-type gravitational lenses, extracted from a larger collection of 122 systems, to constrain the cosmological constant in the LCDM model and the parameters of a set of alternative dark energy models (XCDM, Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati and Ricci dark energy models), under a spatially flat universe. The likelihood is maximized for $\Omega_\Lambda= 0.70 \pm 0.09$ when considering the sample excluding the SLACS systems (known to be biased towards large image-separation lenses) and no-evolution, and $\Omega_\Lambda= 0.81\pm 0.05$ when limiting to gravitational lenses with image separation larger than 2" and no-evolution. In both cases, results accounting for galaxy evolution are consistent within 1$\sigma$. The present test supports the accelerated expansion, by excluding the null-hypothesis (i.e., $\Omega_\Lambda = 0 $) at more than 4$\sigma$, regardless of the chosen sample and assumptions on the galaxy evolution. A comparison between competitive world models is performed by means of the Bayesian information criterion. This shows that the simplest cosmological constant model - that has only one free parameter - is still preferred by the available data on the redshift distribution of gravitational lenses. We perform an analysis of the possible systematic effects, finding that the systematic errors due to sample incompleteness, galaxy evolution and model uncertainties approximately equal the statistical errors, with present-day data.
