Abstract

We consider the initial-boundary value problem describing oscillations of a mechanical hybrid system consisting of an elastic rod and an attached rigid body. We establish the uniqueness of a generalized solution. Based on the Galerkin method, we prove the existence and uniqueness of approximate solutions and derive a priori estimates. Then we prove the weak convergence of approximate solutions to the sought solution. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
