Raman spectroscopy is an important method to analyze and measure mineral composition and structure, which has the advantages of being non-destructive and rapid. This study considered garnet from the Jiama copper polymetallic deposit in Tibet to carry out micro-Raman spectrum and electron microprobe research to analyze the Raman spectrum characteristics of garnet with different components to reveal its indicative significance for garnet composition and skarn mineralization. The results showed that the Raman peaks T, X, A1, A2, and A3 shift toward lower wavenumber with the increase in andradite (And) content. The variations in T, X, and A2 are more obvious than those of A1 and A3. When And > 50%, the three Raman peaks (T, X, and A2) range are 173–174, 234–239, 513–525 cm−1; when And < 50%, they are 177–178, 240–244, 527–543 cm−1. The Raman peaks also shift with the cation radius and relative atomic mass. Different peaks moved in the low-frequency direction with the increase in the X2+ and Y3+ radius, and the X2+ atomic mass. The Raman spectrum can indicate the composition change in garnet. Raman spectrum analysis of garnet is of great significance for skarn zoning and prospecting. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Identification of three types of alteration mineralization types of tungsten ores in the Zhuxi deposit by a combination of shortwave–thermal infrared spectroscopy. [Display omitted] • The infrared spectra presents three types of alteration based on depth: greisen, garnet skarn, and diopside skarn. • The changes in isomorphous minerals' characteristic wavelength bands can reflect changes in the ore-forming environment. • The characteristic absorption position of garnet can provide an indication of the metal mineralization type of the deposit. Infrared spectroscopy, as an innovative exploration tool, enables rapid identification of alteration minerals, thus can facilitate an improved understanding of mineralization and enhance prospecting efficiency. This paper specifically applies this methodology to drill core samples from the Zhuxi Deposit, Jiangxi Province, the world's largest tungsten deposit. Using shortwave and thermal infrared spectroscopy, this study aims to identify spectral characteristics of typical altered minerals within the deposit, establish the mineral identification methods and preferred spectrum bands, and discern spectral characteristics of varied altered mineral combinations. The variations observed in the characteristic bands of these isomorphic minerals serve as indicators of changes in the ore-forming environment. Specifically, absorption features around 2190 nm are indicative of paragonite formation in low-temperature environments, while features around 2210–2225 nm signify the presence of phengite in high-pressure, high-temperature conditions. Absorption at 2260 nm is characteristic of Fe-rich chlorite, suggesting a low-temperature, reducing environment, whereas Mg-rich chlorite exhibits absorption at 2250 nm, indicative of a higher-temperature environment. Based on depth, the deposit can be classified into three types of alteration mineralization: greisen, garnet skarn, and diopside skarn. Shortwave infrared spectroscopy proves effective for identifying muscovite in greisen and altered minerals such as serpentine and chlorite in diopside skarn. Thermal infrared spectroscopy, on the other hand, is ideal for quartz identification in greisen and garnet in garnet skarn. Intriguingly, the study finds that the absorption characteristics of garnet can reflect the metal mineralization type of the deposit. The absorption valley wavelength of garnet varies from around 11290–11380 nm in non-mineralized or poorly mineralized samples, to 11230–11290 nm when scheelite mineralization dominates, and to 11180–11230 nm when both scheelite and chalcopyrite are present. These findings contribute significantly to our understanding of the mineralogical characteristics and genetic environment of the Zhuxi deposit. • Garnet T absorption valley have a strong correlation with Fe 2 O 3 and Al 2 O 3 content, featuring a correlation coefficient of over 0.85. • According to the mixed spectral characteristics of skarn minerals including garnet, diopside, and wollastonite, the skarn zonation can be classifed. • Garnet T absorption valley shifted to a shorter wavelength from proximal to distal skarn and from lower to upper skarn zonation. • Stronger copper mineralization occurred when the garnet T absorption valley exceeded 11.50 μm, while 11.35–11.50 μm is related to more intense molybdenum mineralization. The zonation patterns of skarn minerals, including garnet, diopside, and wollastonite, are important for exploration of skarn deposits. Thermal infrared (TIR) spectroscopy, which covers the wavelength range of 6–14 μm, is a new eco-friendly technology for skarn mineral identification. In this study, the TIR spectra data were collected, using an Agilent 4300 Handheld FTIR Spectrometer from nine drill holes within Jiama Cu-Mo deposit in Tibet, China. This study focuses on the TIR characteristics of grandite-series garnets (i.e., grossular to andradite), which have twin peaks in the 10–13 μm range and a diagnostic absorption valley (T absorption valley) at around 11.5 μm shifting based on the contents of Al 2 O 3 and Fe 2 O 3. The T absorption valley in the zoned garnet sample showed an undulating pattern, shifting towards longer wavelengths from the core to the rim, indicating the increase in Fe 2 O 3 content and a decrease in Al 2 O 3 , MnO, and TiO 2 content. The mixed spectral features of three significant skarn minerals including garnet, diopside, and wollastonite were used to classify the skarn zonation into garnet skarns, diopside-garnet skarns, and wollastonite-garnet skarns. The results from nine drill holes of the No. 24 exploration line in the cross section showed that the garnet T absorption valley shifted towards shorter wavelengths from the proximal to the distal skarn, as well as from the lower to the upper skarn. Furthermore, intensive copper mineralization occurred in the skarn when the garnet T absorption valley exceeded 11.50 μm. In comparison, the garnet T absorption valley at 11.35–11.50 μm is related to more intense molybdenum mineralization. In this work, garnet structured Ca 3 Yb 2 Ge 3 O 12 ceramics with a space group of Ia- 3 d were synthesized by a solid-state reaction method. Rietveld refinement analysis demonstrated that Yb3+with small ionic radius and large electronegativity entered the B-sites and shortened the bond length of B–O and Ge–O. The bond valence and P-V-L theory analysis results showed that Ca cations with a weakened rattling effect exerted a critical effect on the dielectric constant, and the Ge–O bond was the main factor that influenced dielectric loss. Ca 3 Yb 2 Ge 3 O 12 with a high relative density (98.2%) and excellent microwave dielectric properties (ε r = 10.2, Q × f = 98,400 GHz, τ f = -48 ppm/°C) was obtained at 1360 °C for 4 h. Furthermore, the intrinsic dielectric constant and dielectric loss (ε r =10.12, Q × f = 101,900 GHz) of Ca 3 Yb 2 Ge 3 O 12 were obtained by infrared reflectivity spectroscopy. Abstract: Solid-state field-assisted diffusion was used to prepare Ag nano-composite silicate glass. After positive diffusion process, small Ag atoms clusters were formed in the slides. The Ag atom clusters could aggregate into Ag nanoparticles (NPs) with bigger size after subsequent reverse diffusion process. YAG: Yb, Er nanopowders were screen-printed on the glass slides after positive and reverse diffusion, respectively, for up-conversion luminescence measurement. Almost no luminescence enhancement was observed for the slide after positive diffusion. Whereas, obvious enhancement was obtained for the slide after reverse diffusion, and the enhancement factor could reach about 26. The strong enhancement was due to the larger size of Ag NPs. We report on the spectropic and continuous-wave (CW) laser properties of a novel Er3+-doped mixed garnet (Er:LuYSGG) crystal. The maximum phonon energy of Er:LuYSGG was measured to be 720 cm−1, which is lower than that of Er:YSGG crystal. Fluorescence lifetimes of 4I 11/2 and 4I 13/2 levels amounts to 2.1 ms and 3.2 ms, indicating a potential capability for mid-infrared laser emission. For the CW laser operation, a maximum output power of 472 mW was achieved at 2797 nm, with a slope efficiency of as high as 24%. • An Er3+-doped (Lu, Y, Sc)-mixed garnet crystal that has a long fluorescence lifetime (4I 11/2 : >2 ms) is proposed. • The phonon energy of Er:LuYSGG crystal is further reduced compared with that of Er:YSGG. • CW laser performance of Er:LuYSGG crystal gives a slope efficiency of 24%, confriming the feasibility of further power improvement.
