We introduce a new kind of Airy beam called Airy beam with the tunable tail, which can be generated from the elliptical flat-topped Gaussian beam. The analytical formula of Airy beam with the tunable tail is derived. Airy beam with the single tail can be obtained by adjusting the ration of the beam width of elliptical flat-topped Gaussian beam. The tail length of Airy beam can be controlled by the orderNof incident beam. The normalized intensity distributions of Airy beam with the tunable tail propagating in free space are studied, and the propagation dynamics of Airy beam with the single tail are investigated. Compared with the Airy beam generated from the fundamental Gaussian beam or the flat-topped Gaussian beam, some interesting and useful information has been found. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

By expanding the hard rectangular aperture function into a finite sum of complex Gaussian functions, we obtain the analytical formula for the propagation of an AiG beam passing through a paraxial ABCD optical system. According to the derived formulas, the propagation properties of an AiG beam through a paraxial ABCD optical system with a hard rectangular aperture are illustrated numerically. As a special case, the fractional Fourier transformation (FrFT) system is taken into consideration. The derived analytical formulas provide a convenient and effective way for studying the propagation and transformation of an AiG beam through an apertured general optical system. Abstract: We first (to best of out knowledge) use the slowly varying envelope approximation (SVEA) to obtain the equation of third harmonic (TH) generated by focusing the double half-Gaussian hollow beams into an atomic medium. The two-dimension intensity distribution is achieved by simulating, and it is similar to that generated by the 0th order Bessel beams. In addition to the similarities between the experimental setups, we demonstrate the accuracy of the equation. Compared with that generated by the Bessel beams, the pattern of the TH intensity generated by the double half-Gaussian hollow beams has salient features. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

• A novel model of partially coherent pulse sources generating far fields with sharp pulse is introduced. • The FMGCSM pulse beam will produce the sharp intensity distributions when the propagation distance is long enough. • The higher the value of the pulse-order M is, the sharper the average intensity becomes. • The self-focusing effect of the FMGCSM pulse beam propagating in dispersive media with chirp coefficient of s < 0 is found. According to the partially coherent theory for non-stationary optical fields, we introduce a novel model of partially coherent pulse sources, of which the TDOC is limited by Fractional Multi-Gaussian correlated Schell-model (FMGCSM) function. The analytical formula for the temporally mutual coherence function (TMCF) of a FMGCSM pulse beam on propagation in the presence of dispersive media is derived. The average intensity and the temporal degree of coherence (TDOC) of the FMGCSM pulse beam spreading through dispersive media are illustrated numerically. It can be seen that the pulse beam will form strongly sharp pulse intensity pattern when it propagates into far field. Moreover, the FMGCSM pulse beam propagating in dispersive media with chirp coefficient of s < 0 will exhibit self-focusing effect and the focal position is controllable via the change of the source parameters.
