Abstract

The article analyzes author Eudora Welty's letters to novelist Elizabeth Bowen in the book "The Bride of the Innisfallen" and the heteronormativity and intimacy of their relationship through their love of written discourse. Topics discussed include possibilities of Welty's queer relationship with Bowen, identity formation of adolescent girls and eroticism in Bowen's novels such as in "Friends and Relations," and Welty's portrayals of gender expression and sexual identity in her stories.
