A new dysprosium (III) coordination polymer [Dy(Hm-dobdc) (H2O)2]·H2O (Dy-CP), was hydrothermal synthesized based on 4,6-dioxido-1,3-benzenedicarboxylate (H4m-dobdc) ligand containing carboxyl and phenolic hydroxyl groups. The Dy(III) center adopts an octa-coordinated [DyO8] geometry, which can be described as a twisted square antiprism (D4d symmetry). Neighboring Dy(III) ions are interconnected by deprotonated Hm-dobdc3− ligand to form the two-dimensional infinite layers, which are further linked to generate three-dimensional structure through abundant hydrogen bonds mediated primarily by coordinated and lattice H2O molecules. Magnetic studies demonstrates that Dy-CP shows the field-induced slow relaxation of magnetization and the energy barrier Ueff/kB and relaxation time τ0 are 35.3 K and 1.31 × 10–6 s, respectively. Following the vehicular mechanism, Dy-CP displays proton conductivity with σ equal to 7.77 × 10–8 S cm−1 at 353 K and 30%RH. Moreover, luminescence spectra reveal that H4m-dobdc can sensitize characteristic luminescence of Dy(III) ion. Herein, good magnetism, proton conduction, and luminescence are simultaneously achieved, and thus, Dy-CP is a potential multifunctional coordination polymer material.

In this work, two new enantiopure bis-monodentate N-donor chiral ligands, namely (−)/(+)-2-(4′-pyridyl)-4,5-pinene-pyridine (LR/LS), have been designed and synthesized. Using LR and LS as bridging ligands to react with AgClO4, a pair of novel 2D chiral Ag(I) enantiomers formulated as [Ag2(LR)2(ClO4)2]n (R-1) and [Ag2(LS)2(ClO4)2]n (S-1) were isolated and characterized. In R-1 and S-1, each Ag(I) ion is bonded by two N atoms from two different chiral LR or LS ligands, leading to the formation of 1D right- or left-handed –L–Ag(I)–L– helical chains. Moreover, two adjacent helical chains are further doubly linked by two monodentate ClO4− anions through weak Ag–O contacts to form 2D network structures, in which dual chiral elements, i.e., center chirality and helical chirality coexist. Interestingly, each free ligand LR/LS and R-1/S-1 enantiomers show very different ECD spectra in the solid state and in solution, which are correlated to the intermolecular interactions and molecular structures in each state, respectively. Notably, as a representative, R-1 exhibits intense room temperature photoluminescence both in the solid state and in solution with different emission features and mechanisms, while it also shows more intense emission than that of free ligand LR. In particular, R-1 and S-1 represent the first examples of 2D Ag(I) chiral coordination polymers (CCPs) supported by ClO4− anions, possessing dual chiral elements.

Considering the biological properties of the compounds containing quinoxaline and indandione skeleton, a new thiolate salt was synthesized via the reaction between ninhydrin and phenacyl thiocyanate in the presence of triethylamine and in continuous, from the reaction of this thiolate with methyl iodide and o-phenylenediamine in absolute ethanol, quinoxaline containing indandione substituent was obtained.

A series of lanthanides adipates [Ln 2(ad)3(H2O)4] [Ln = Y3+ (1), Ho3+ (2), Er3+ (3), Tm3+ (4); ad = adipate] have been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by elemental analysis, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, UV/Vis and IR spectroscopy. Compounds 1–4 are isostructural and exhibit 2-D polymeric layers constructed by Ln 3+ ions bridged via the carboxylate groups of adipate ligands in two binding modes. The magnetic properties of both 2 and 4 are investigated and their thermal behaviours are also discussed. The Ln 3+ ions (Ln = Y 3+ , Ho 3+ , Er 3+ , Tm 3+ ) bridged by the carboxylate groups of adipate ligands form 2-D polymeric layers.

Seven novel coordination polymers based on 2,2′-phosphinico-dibenzoic acid (H3L), namely, {[Zn3L2(H2O)4]·2H2O}n (1), [Zn3L2(4,4′-bipy)2]n (2), [Zn(HL)(2,2′-bipy)(H2O)]n (3), {[Cd9L6(H2O)8]·4H2O}n (4), [Cd8L4(OH)2(OAc)2(4,4′-bipy)]n (5), [Mn3L2(4,4′-bipy)(EtOH)(H2O)2]n (6), and [Mn(HL)(2,2′-bipy)(H2O)]n (7), were synthesized under hydro(solvo)thermal conditions. These compounds crystallize in the triclinic P1 space group for 1, 4, 5, and 6, the monoclinic space group C2/c for 2, and the monoclinic P21/c space group for 3 and 7. The L3– ligand displays versatile binding modes in 1–7. Compound 1 is a one-dimensional (1-D) chain coordination polymer with a three-dimensional (3-D) supramolecular framework. Compound 2 is a 3-D porous metal–organic framework (MOF) with two different 4,4′-bipyridine linkers. Compounds 3 and 7 show 1-D zigzag chain structures. A series of donor–π–acceptor indene-1,3-dionemethylene-1,4-dihydropyridine (IDM-DHP) derivatives with different alkyl chain lengths on the DHP ring were synthesized to investigate the effect of N-alkyl chains on their fluorescence properties in the aggregated state. These compounds with highly distorted conformations show obvious aggregation-induced emission enhancement phenomena in a THF/water mixture because of the restriction of intramolecular rotation in the aggregated state, as confirmed by solution thickening experiments. The as-synthesized IDM-DHP solids emit strong yellow fluorescence and the general trend of their emission wavelengths decreases with the increase of the N-alkyl chain length. It is found that these compounds exhibit outstanding reversible mechanofluorochromic (MFC) properties, and N-alkyl chains play a functional role in tuning their MFC behaviours, that is, the longer alkyl-containing IDM-DHP solids show larger MFC spectral redshifts, which should be ascribed to the weaker CH/π hydrogen bonds in the molecules and as a result looser molecular stacking, as revealed by the single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Additionally, the fluorescence emission of the ground samples of these compounds can recover by annealing or solvent fuming. X-ray diffraction experiments reveal that the transformation between crystalline and amorphous states under various external stimuli should be responsible for the MFC properties. This work demonstrates that a simple alkyl chain change in the skeleton of some organic fluorophores can be used to tune their fluorescence properties in the aggregated state, which provides good design ideas for the development of novel IDM-DHP derivatives with MFC properties.

We report a flexible metal-organic framework (MOF), (Me2NH2)(3)[ Eu-3(MHFDA)(4)(NO3)(4)(DMF)(2)]center dot 4H(2)O center dot 2MeCN (1) (H(2)MHFDA = 9-methyl-9-hydroxy-fluorene-2,7-dicarboxylic acid), which was synthesized by a hydrothermal method and structurally characterized. This MOF has a three-dimensional framework structure with one-dimensional rhombic channels and the framework can be reversibly transformed between two phases upon release/uptake of the guest molecules. The vacuum drying process is accompanied by the loss of luminescence of the MOF, while the luminescence is recovered upon resoaking in DMF. The potential of the material for PA sensing was studied in DMF through the luminescence quenching experiments, which elucidate that this material is a potential turn-off luminescent sensory material for the selective detection of PA.

The structures and properties of two mononuclear Dy(III) enantiomeric pairs were dramatically controlled by crystallization temperature; the enantiomeric pair with coordinated chiral N,N′-donor ligands exhibits enhanced single-ion magnetic, ferroelectric and chiroptical properties with respect to the other one with protonated chiral N,N′-donor ligands.

The hydrothermal reaction of silver nitrate and 2,2′-phosphinico-dibenzoic acid (H3L) with different metal to ligand ratios under hydrothermal conditions yielded two unusual complexes with the formulae of [Ag(H2L)]n (1) and [Ag3(L)]n (2). Both complexes were well characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, IR spectroscopic and fluorescence studies. Complex 1 crystallizes in a centrosymmetric Pbcn space group and presents a two-dimensional (2D) layer structure through silver(I)-aromatic interaction, whereas complex 2 adopts a noncentrosymmetric Iba2 space group, in which the different coordination modes of the four groups around the phosphorus atom in the L3− ligand occurs. Both complexes display green emissions, assigned as the ligand-to-metal charge-transfer character.

With the help of rhodamine B base (RBB), novel Pd nanospheres were synthesized by a facile one-step approach. Owing to their hierarchically porous characteristics, these nanospheres exhibited highly catalytic activity for HCOOH electrooxidation (∼1.84 times and 1.67 times higher than those of a commercial Pd/C catalyst for mass and specific activity, respectively).

Two simple organic compounds, 5-nitroisophthalic acid (npa) and 4,4′-bipyridine (bpy), were used as building blocks for supramolecular self-assembly by hydrothermal synthesis. SEM, TEM, and XRD were used to analyse the multi-step assembly process in which npa and bpy assembled into nanotubes (or nanobelts) of about 30–100 nm in diameter and several millimetres in length and microtubes (or microbelts). The tubes then further assembled to form complex ordered structures, such as pom-pom-shaped and flower-like mesostructures. Hydrothermal-promoted, self-assembly of 5-nitroisophthalic acid and 4,4′-bipyridine generates nanotubes possessing a diameter of ~30–100 nm diameter and length of several millimeters as well as novel pom-pom- and flower-shaped mesostructures.

Hydrothermal reaction of Ln(NO3)·6H2O with benzimidazole-5,6-dicarboxylic acid (H3bidc) and KSCN afforded a series of new two- and three-dimensional coordination polymers, namely [Ln2(Hbidc)2(SO4)(H2O)3]n (Ln = La (1), Pr (2), Sm (3), Gd (4)) and [Ln4(Hbidc)4(SO4)2]n·2nH2O (Ln = Eu (5), Tb (6), Dy (7), Er (8)). The sulfates were in situ generated by catalytic oxidation of KSCN. These complexes were characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, thermal analysis, fluorescent spectra and magnetic measurements. Complexes 1–4 are isomorphous and comprise a 2D network based upon planar tetranuclear lanthanide secondary building units. The 2D layers extend to a 3D framework by π–π stacking between imidazole rings and hydrogen bonding interactions. The complexes 5–8 are also isomorphous and have similar 3D frameworks fabricated through Hbidc2− and SO42− bridging dinuclear lanthanide secondary building units, and the guest water molecules are trapped in the lattice. The luminescent properties of complexes 5 and 6 exhibit characteristic europium and terbium luminescence, while 4 involves ligand-to-metal charge transfer. The magnetic properties of four complexes were also investigated.

Two cyano-bridged heterobimetallic coordination polymers, [{Mn(dpa)2}2W(CN)8·CH3CN·4H2O]n (1) (dpa = 2,2′-dipyridylamine) and [Mn2(H2O)4{W(CN)8}·3H2O]n (2), have been synthesized and characterized structurally and magnetically. X-ray analysis shows that complex 1 is a one-dimensional (1-D) polymer of W2(CN)4Mn2 square units in which adjacent square fragments are interlinked by sharing [W(CN)8]4− moieties to form an infinite chain. Complex 2 is a three-dimensional (3-D) polymer, which shows an unforeseen structure, exhibiting a 3-D open network with a 1-D channel (ca.13.21 A × 11.82 A). Fitting of the magnetic properties indicates that both polymers exhibit weakly antiferromagnetic interactions between the adjacent Mn ions.

By using cyclohexane-1,2-diamine (chxn), Ni(ClO(4))(2) x 6 H(2)O and Na(3)[Mo(CN)(8)] x 4 H(2)O, a 3D diamond-like polymer {[Ni(II)(chxn)(2)](2)[Mo(IV)(CN)(8)] x 8 H(2)O}(n) (1) was synthesised, whereas the reaction of chxn and Cu(ClO(4))(2) x 6 H(2)O with Na(3)[M(V)(CN)(8)] x 4 H(2)O (M = Mo, W) afforded two isomorphous graphite-like complexes {[Cu(II)(chxn)(2)](3)[Mo(V)(CN)(8)](2) x 2 H(2)O}(n) (2) and {[Cu(II)(chxn)(2)](3)[W(V)(CN)(8)](2) x 2 H(2)O}(n) (3). When the same synthetic procedure was employed, but replacing Na(3)[Mo(CN)(8)] x 4 H(2)O by (Bu(3)NH)(3)[Mo(CN)(8)] x 4 H(2)O (Bu(3)N = tributylamine), {[Cu(II)(chxn)(2)Mo(IV)(CN)(8)][Cu(II)(chxn)(2)] x 2 H(2)O}(n) (4) was obtained. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses showed that the framework of 4 is similar to 2 and 3, except that a discrete [Cu(chxn)(2)](2+) moiety in 4 possesses large channels of parallel adjacent layers. The experimental results showed that in this system, the diamond- or graphite-like framework was strongly influenced by the inducement of metal ions. The magnetic properties illustrate that the diamagnetic [Mo(IV)(CN)(8)] bridges mediate very weak antiferromagnetic coupling between the Ni(II) ions in 1, but lead to the paramagnetic behaviour in 4 because [Mo(IV)(CN)(8)] weakly coordinates to the Cu(II) ions. The magnetic investigations of 2 and 3 indicate the presence of ferromagnetic coupling between the Cu(II) and W(V)/Mo(V) ions, and the more diffuse 5d orbitals lead to a stronger magnetic coupling interaction between the W(V) and Cu(II) ions than between the Mo(V) and Cu(II) ions.

Six d10 metal metal-organic coordination polymers, {[Zn2(Htpim)2(tp)2]·2H2O}n (1), {[Cd3(H0.5tpim)4(pa)2(H2O)2]·5H2O}n (2), [Zn(Htpim)2(Htma)]n (3), {[Zn4(Htpim)4(ip)4]·2H2O}n (4), [Cd(Htpim)(ca)]n (5), and {[Cd4(Htpim)2(d-ca)4(H2O)2]·5H2O}n (6) (Htpim = 2,4,5-tri(4-pyridyl)-imidazole, H2tp = terephthalic acid, H2pa = phthalic acid, H3tma = trimesic acid, H2ip = isophthalic acid, H2ca = racemic camphor acid, d-H2ca = d-camphor acid), have been prepared and structurally characterized. In all complexes, the rigid ligand Htpim exhibits different coordination modes and leads to the formation of various architectures. Complex 1 shows a two-dimensional (2D) network with (6,3) topology, where hydrogen-bonding interactions further link these sheets to a three-dimensional (3D) supramolecular structure. A new three-dimensional polymeric PbII complex, [Pb3(bpy)(H2O)5(sip)2]n·0.5bpy·2H2O (bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine and sip = 5-sulfoisophethalate), has been synthesized and characterized. Its single-crystal X-ray structure shows three types of Pb2+-ions with coordination numbers of 8 Pb1, 6 Pb2, and 7 Pb3. The Pb1 center with a coordination number of 8 possesses a stereo-chemically ‘inactive’ electron lone pair, and the coordination sphere is holodirected. However, the arrangement of O- and N-atoms for Pb2 and Pb3 suggests a gap or hole in the coordination geometry around these atoms. The stereo-chemically ‘active’ electron lone pairs of Pb2 and Pb3 possibly occupy these ‘holes’, and their coordination spheres are, thus, hemidirected.

Two three-dimensional interpenetrating coordination polymers, [Co(C 8 H 4 O 4 )(C 12 H 10 N 2 )] n , 1, and [Zn 3 (C 14 H 8 O 4 ) 3 (C 12 H 10 N 2 ) 2 ] n , 2, have been prepared hydrothermally by the assembly of cobalt(II), 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethene (C 12 H 10 N 2 ) with terephthalic acid (C 8 H 4 O 4 ), and zinc(II), 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethene with biphenyl-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid (C 14 H 8 O 4 ), respectively. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses reveal that 1 and 2 have similar 2-fold interpenetration. Because of the influence of metal ions, the O,O'-donor ligands adopt similar coordination modes but form different kinds of individual motifs, which finally aggregate to generate different supramolecular architectures. The structures of the two three-dimensional interpenetrating open frameworks have been characterized and studied.

In the title compound, C13H12Cl2N4OS, the triazole and benzene rings are planar, while the six-membered thia­diazine ring has a screw-boat conformation. Inter­molecular O—H⋯N hydrogen bonds form chains which enhance the stability of the crystal structure.

The title compound, [Cu(C7H4ClO2)2(C12H8N2)(H2O)], is a monomer in which the p-chlorobenzoate ligand is synthesized in situ from 4-carboxy­benzene­boronic acid. The coordination around the CuII atom is square pyramidal. Two monodentate benzoate ligands are cis-arranged. Hydrogen bonds occur between coordinated water mol­ecules and benzoate ligands, while π–π stacking inter­actions consolidate the crystal packing.

In the title compound, [Cu2(C7H4O5S)2(C12H8N2)2(H2O)2]·3H2O, each copper(II) atom is coordinated by two N atoms from one 1,10-phenanthroline molecule, two carboxylate O atoms from two 2-sulfonatobenzoato dianions and one aqua O atom in a distorted square pyramidal geometry. The 2-sulfonatobenzoato dianions function as μ2-bridging ligands in the formation of a dinuclear complex. Intermolecular hydrogen-bond interactions link the dinuclear units into a two-dimensional network structure.

In the title compound, [Zn(C8H4O5)(H2O)3] n , the ZnII atom is in a five-coordinated environment defined by three aqua O atoms and two carboxylate O atoms from two different 5-hydroxyisophthalate dianions. In the 5-hydroxyisophthalate dianions, two carboxylate groups coordinate two ZnII cations in a bidentate bridging coordination mode, forming a zigzag chain. In addition, O—H...O intermolecular hydrogen bonds link the chains into a three-dimensional network.

In the title compound, {[Co(C8H3BrO4)(C12H8N2)(H2O)]·H2O} n , each CoII ion is six-coordinated by three O atoms from three carboxylate groups of three 4-bromoisophthalate dianions, one water molecule, and two N atoms from a 1,10-phenanthroline ligand. The coordination geometry around the CoII cation is octahedral. Whereas the 1,10-phenanthroline ligand chelates to just one CoII cation, the 4-bromoisophthalate dianions are bonded to three CoII cations. The crystal structure is stabilized by several hydrogen bonds.

A new cocrystal based upon 2,2’-diamino-4,4’-bis(1,3-thiazole) and 4,4’-bipyridine has been synthesized and characterized. Self-assembly of this compound in the solid state is likely caused by both hydrogen boding and π-π stacking, and the network contains large vacant voids.

In the title compound, C13H12F2N4OS, the thia­diazine ring adopts a screw-boat conformation. Weak O—H⋯N hydrogen bonds are found in the crystal structure. These link the mol­ecules into a zigzag chain.

In the title compound, [Co(C7H4O5S)(C10H8N2)(H2O)3], the CoII atom has a distorted octa­hedral geometry formed by three aqua O atoms, one carboxyl­ate O atom from a 2-sulfonatobenzoate dianion and two N atoms of a 2,2′-bipyridine ligand. Inter­molecular O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the mononuclear units into a two-dimensional network structure.

In the title compound, [Cd2(C7H4O6S)2(C12H8N2)4]·H2O, the CdII atoms are bridged by two 5-sulfonatosalicylate dianions, forming a centrosymmetric dinuclear complex. Each Cd atom is coordinated by four N atoms from two 1,10-phenanthroline mol­ecules and two O atoms from two 5-sulfonatosalicylate ligands in a distorted octa­hedral environment. A strong π–π stacking inter­action occurs between 1,10-phenanthroline ligands from neighboring dimers. Extensive hydrogen bonds give rise to a two-dimensional network and enhance the stability of the crystal packing.

The title compound, C16H9ClF2N4S, was prepared by the reaction of 4-amino-5-mercapto-3-chloro­phenyl-1,2,4-triazole and 2-bromo-2′,4′-fluoro­acetophenone. The six-membered thia­diazine ring is distorted from planarity, with an r.m.s. deviation of 0.201 A. All C and N atoms of the triazole ring are conjugated.

In the title cooordination polymer, {[Cu(C6H2O4S)(C10H9N3)(H2O)]·C3H7NO·H2O}n, the CuII atom is in a square-pyramidal environment defined by an apically coordinated water mol­ecule, carboxyl O atoms from two different thio­phene-2,5-dicarboxyl­ate dianions and the two N atoms of a chelating di-2-pyridylamine ligand. The thio­phene-2,5-dicarboxyl­ate dianion functions as a μ2-bridging ligand to form a zigzag polymeric chain. In addition, N—H⋯O and O—H⋯O inter­molecular hydrogen bonds link the chains into a three-dimensional network structure.

In the title polymeric complex, {[Cu(C7H4O5S)(C10H8N2)(H2O)]·H2O}n, each Cu atom is coordinated by a water mol­ecule, two 3-sulfonatobenzoate ligands and two N atoms from one 2,2′-bipyridine mol­ecule, in the shape of a square pyramid. The bridging 3-sulfonatobenzoate ligands extend the mol­ecular structure into a one-dimensional chain. The coordinated water mol­ecule forms an intra­molecular hydrogen bond with the carboxyl group and an inter­molecular hydrogen bond with the solvent water mol­ecule. The extensive hydrogen-bonding network between the sulfonate groups and the solvent water mol­ecules of two polymer chains generates ring structures, which form an infinite ladder-like pattern extending along the a axis.

The mol­ecule of the title compound, C19H11Cl2F3N4O, is a tricyclic amide with an overall U shape. The dihedral angles between the pyrazole and outermost benzene and phenyl rings are 89.4 (1) and 114.5 (1)°, respectively. In the crystal structure, inter­molecular N—H⋯N hydrogen bonds, with an N(amide)⋯N(cyano) separation of 3.220 (7) A, link the mol­ecules into linear chains along the [110] direction.

In the title polymeric complex, [Pb(C7H4O5S)(C10H8N2)(H2O)]n, each PbII atom has a seven-coordinate geometry. The 3-sulfonatobenzoate ligand acts as a μ3-bridging linker, generating a one-dimensional ladder. The packing is further stabilized by an O—H⋯O hydrogen-bonding network.

In the title compound, [Mn(C7H4O5S)(C12H8N2)2(H2O)]·3H2O, the MnII atom displays an octa­hedral MnN4O2 configuration, defined by four N atoms from two 1,10-phenanthroline ligands, one carbox­yl O atom belonging to a 2-sulfobenzoate dianion and one aqua O atom. O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds involving 2-sulfobenzoate dianions, aqua ligands and uncoordinated water mol­ecules link the mononuclear units into a three-dimensional network structure.

In the centrosymmetric mol­ecule of the title compound, [Co(C6H4N2O4F)2(C7H6N2)2(H2O)2], the CoII ion is coordinated by two 5-fluoro­uracil-1-acetate anions via carboxyl­ate O atoms, two water mol­ecules and two benzimidazole ligands, forming a six-coordinate octa­hedral environment. N—H⋯O and O—H⋯O hydrogen-bond inter­actions are observed in the structure, leading to the formation of a three-dimensional network.

In the title compound, [Cu(C12H8N2)(C7H4SO5)(H2O)]·C3H7NO, the CuII atom has a square-pyramidal coordination geometry formed by three O atom and two N atoms. The 1,2-di-4-pyridylethyl­ene ligands function as μ2-bridging ligands to form a zigzag chain. The 2-sulfonatobenzoate ligands protrude on alternate sides of the chain. Inter­molecular O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the chains into a two-dimensional network structure.

In the title compound, [MnCl(CHO2)(C12N2H8)(H2O)]·H2O, each MnII ion is coordinated by two O atoms from two formate anions, a water mol­ecule, a Cl− anion and two N atoms of the 1,10-phenanthroline ligand, forming an octahedral environment. The formate anions function as bridges between the MnII ions, resulting in a zigzag chain structure along the [001] direction.

In the title polymeric compound, [Zn(C7H4O6S)(C10H8N2)(H2O)2], the octahedral coordination of the Zn atom comprises N-atom donors of 2,2′-bi­pyridine, O atoms of two water mol­ecules, the carboxyl O atom of the 5-sulfosalicyl­ate dianion and the sulfonyl O atom of a symmetry-related dianion. The water mol­ecules with sulfonyl O atoms form hydrogen bonds between chains, giving rise to a two-dimensional network.

In the title compound, [Cu(C8H5O5)Cl(C12H8N2)(H2O)]·2.5H2O, the CuII atom is in a square-pyramidal geometry defined by one Cl− anion, one aqua O atom, one carbox­yl O atom belonging to one 5-hydroxy­isophthalate anion, and two N atoms from a 1,10-phenanthroline mol­ecule. O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds involving 5-hydroxy­isophthalate anions, the aqua ligands and the uncoordinated water mol­ecules, along with weak O—H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds, link the mononuclear units into a three-dimensional network structure.

In the title polymeric structure, {[Mn(C8H3NO6)(C12H8N2)]·H2O}n, the Mn atom adopts an octahedral geometry. The 2-nitro­benzene-1,4-di­carboxyl­ate ligand is in a chelating–bridging mode and its two carboxyl­ate groups are approximately perpendicular to each other. The crystal structure can be described as layers formed by a two-dimensional network of hydrogen bonds.

In the title compound, [Cd(C14H9O5)2(C12H10N2)]n, the CdII atom lies at a centre of symmetry and is in a highly distorted octahedral geometry. The 1,2-di-4-pyridyl­ethyl­ene ligand functions as a μ2-bridging ligand to form a zigzag chain. The 4,4′-oxy­dibenzoate(1−) anions protrude on both sides of the chain. O—H⋯O hydrogen-bond interactions link the chains into a two-dimensional network structure.

The mononuclear title compound, [Mn(C7H5O5S)2(C12H8N2)2], was obtained as a second crop of crystals from the hydro­thermal reaction of manganese sulfate, potassium hydrogen 4-carboxy­benzene­sulfonate and 1,10-phenanthroline. The coordination geometry of the MnII atom is octahedral; each 4-carboxy­benzene­sulfonate anion retains a proton on the carboxyl group as each coordinates to the metal atom through only one sulfonyl O atom. Intermolecular π–π interactions and hydrogen bonds are observed in the crystal structure.

The cation interacts with the anion in the title compound, [Mn(C12H8N2)2(H2O)2](C7H4O6S)·4H2O, through hydrogen bonding with the coordinated water mol­ecules in a hydrogen-bonded sheet structure. The Mn atom is in an octahedral environment in which the two water mol­ecules occupy cis positions.

The title complex, [Cu(C7H4O6S)(C10H8N2)(H2O)2]n, consists of a polymeric neutral chain involving the 3-carboxyl­ato-4-hydroxy­benzene­sulfonate ligand. The Cu atom shows a distorted octahedral coordination geometry, defined by two N atoms of the bi­pyridine, two O atoms of water mol­ecules and the carboxyl O atom as well as one sulfonyl O atom of a symmetry-related bridging ligand. H atoms of water mol­ecules are involved in O—H⋯O hydrogen bonding, building a three dimensional network.

In the title centrosymmetric compound, [Mn2(C8H3BrO4)2(C12H8N2)4].4H2O, the MnII atom is surrounded by two O atoms from two 4-bromo­isophthalate dianions and four N atoms from two phen (phen is 1,10-phenanthroline) heterocycles in a distorted octahedral geometry. Two bromo­isophthalate dianions link two [Mn(phen)2]2+ cations in bis-monodentate mode, resulting in a binuclear complex.

The title compound, C10H9N2+·C8H4NO6−·C8H5NO6·2H2O, consists of singly protonated 2,2′-bipyridinium cations, 5-nitroisophthalate anions, 5-nitroisophthalic acid and water mol­ecules of crystallization, linked by N—H⋯O and O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The moieties are linked by multiple hydrogen bonds into an undulating sheet structure.

In the title compound, {[Ni(C14H8O5)(C12H8N2)]·0.25H2O}n, the Ni atom displays a distorted octahedral geometry defined by four carboxy O atoms from two 4,4′-oxydibenzoate (oba) dianions and two N atoms from a 1,10-phenanthroline molecule. The V-shaped oba anion acts as a bridge between two Ni atoms in a tris-bidentate coordination mode, forming a zigzag coordination polymer.

The title compound, C12H9N2+·C7H5O6S−, consists of a 1,10-phenanthrolin-1-ium cation and a 5-sulfosalicyl­ate anion. Hydro­gen bonds link the anions into a one-dimensional chain. Furthermore, hydrogen bonds between the NH groups of 1,10-phenanthrolin-1-ium cations and the sulfonate O atoms attach the cations to the one-dimensional chain.

The asymmetric unit of the polymeric title compound, {[Cu2(C10H2O8)(C3H4N2)4(H2O)2]·C3H7NO} n , contains two independent Cu(II) ions, each coordinated by one water mol-ecule, two imidazole N atoms and two carboxyl-ate O atoms from benzene-1,2,4,5-tetra-carboxyl-ate anions in a distorted square-pyramidal geometry. The benzene-1,2,4,5-tetra-carboxyl-ate anion bridges four Cu(II) ions, forming a polymeric sheet parallel to (010). In the crystal, extensive N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the polymeric sheets and di-methyl-formamide solvent mol-ecules into a three-dimensional supra-molecular structure.
