When comparing alignments of mining districts of the Rio Negro province and the elongation of outcropping granite and metamorphic bodies of precambrian-paleozoic ages strongly similar strikes are found (Figs. 1 and 2).

The region comprises the provinces of Cordoba and San Luis where the crystalline basement crops out. Study of the distribution of tungsten and chalcofile ore deposits identified a 500 km long and 50 km wide belt where old and modern ore deposits coexist.

The Sierra del Morro range is composed of crystalline basement and volcanic rocks. The crystalline basement, with ages ranging from Precambrian to Early Paleozoic, is composed of schist and gneiss, including some pegmatites, marbles and amphibolitic layers more or less modified by metallogenic process. A Devonian post-tectonic granite also occurs sparsely.

The metallogeny of the Sierra Alta de San Luis is controlled by a network of pre-intrusive and pre-volcanic fractures striking NNE and WNW supporting the hypothesis of a regmagenic network in southern South America.
