The general objective of this research is to determine the competitiveness degree of associations of ecotourism service providers and producers in the municipalities of San Agustin and Pitalito, in the Department of Huila. The research was carried out in 11 associations of ecotourism service providers and producers in the municipalities of San Agustin and Pitalito, from September to November 2004, which take advantage of the cultural resources represented in the Archaeological Park of San Agustin, Unesco’s Cultural Heritage and the environmental benefits of the Colombian Massif. It is a mixed research, type non-experimental descriptive, with cross-sectional data collection. The data collection instrument was a survey, based on the revision of the tourism competitive management models. The survey evaluated 4 aspects: innovation, business opportunities and access to markets, business cooperation and partnership and financing. As conclusion of this research, it can be said that the community rural tourism, in the current conditions is not competitive and that despite its enormous potential, is an underdeveloped area that requires substantial investments to become a real option for improvement of the living conditions of rural communities.
