The article focuses on some principles of S. C. Happ and colleagues regarding geomorphology, such as sediment budgets and valley sedimentation in Mississippi Coastal Plain. It explores the impact of human activity on land structure, the origins and pioneers of sediment budgets, and the scale and comprehensiveness of the study. It discusses the work of G. K. Gilbert that laid the foundations of human understanding to the phenomenon as well as the essential of colour and organic material in identifying presettlement soils.

The article discusses the significance of streambank composition and stratigraphy in the control of seepage flow and to quantify correlation of seepage flow with precipitation, steam stage and soil pore water pressure in the streambank site located in Northern Mississippi in the Goodwin Creek watershed. A soil analysis taken from the streambank revealed an order of magnitude difference in vertical hydraulic conductivity. It was disclosed that Goodwin Creek seeps were not similar to other seep reported as eroded sediment originated from layers underneath the primary seepage layer. Moreover, it was discovered that subsurface flow and sediment load which is quantified with 50 centimeters wide collection pans, were dependent on the type of seep such as the intermittent low-flow seeps.
