Regulating the fuel consumption of small-scale fishing vessels could help to keep global warming well below 1.5 °C and lead to effective management in small-scale fisheries (SSF) of developing countries like India. In this regard, a bottom-up approach was carried out to collect the requisite data to explore the fuel consumption of small-scale fishing vessels along India's southeast coast. Consequently, twenty-four fishing vessels (type A to type X) were grouped into seven categories based on fishing methods. The estimated numerical value of fuel use intensity (FUI) ranging from 0.08 to 0.80 was used to examine the fuel-efficient fishing vessel and engine type. In addition, the estimated revenue on fuel ranging from ₹5625.06/l to ₹218.07/l and annual greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions using the Tier 1 method were used to understand the economic efficiency and GHG emission trend, respectively. The total annual GHG emissions from all the fishing vessels at the selected sites were about 1.25E + 08 t CO 2 -eq year -1 . The result shows that longline-cum-gillnetters, seine-netters, longliners and drift-gillnetters largely contributed to 65% of the annual GHG emissions. By recognizing the factors influencing the fuel consumption of fishing vessels in SSF, this sector could be understood, effectively managed, and performed well. Urban sprawl in context to transportation is a matter of serious concern. It creates unusual environmental challenges for an emerging economy like India, known for geographical spread, population, and use of fossil fuel-based automobiles on road. Indian automotive sector is often held responsible for the emission of greenhouse gasses causing serious environmental deterioration. Government at both central and state levels is dealing with this challenge in two ways-adding more infrastructure for public transport and encouraging electrical vehicles (EVs). Adoption of EVs for public mobility is eco-friendlier and economic. But it is observed that EV penetration in many pockets is not growing and is yet to mature for usage. Regardless of subsidies, it is not picking up as expected and needs to be investigated. Earlier research mainly focused on reporting barriers and did not guide EV penetration enablers. This study bridges the research gap and offers useful insights about EV penetration phenomenon and makes use of both qualitative and quantitative treatments. Accordingly, it models thirteen enablers, guides about tangling interrelationships using an interpretive structural modeling (ISM), and validates it using best worst method (BWM) approach. The study reports six key enablers, which are-developing high-capacity batteries with short recharge time, improving service support, framing promotive government policies, lowering electricity tariffs using sustainable and reliable sources, and reducing dependence on imported raw materials. These enablers need an urgent attention from the industries and researchers for successful EV penetration in Indian context. Methane (CH 4 ) and nitrous oxide (N 2 O) are two important greenhouse gases (GHG) and contribute largely to global warming and climate change. The impact of physiological characteristics of rice genotypes on global warming potential (GWP) and greenhouse gas intensity (GHGI) is not well documented. A 2-year field experiment was conducted with eight summer rice varieties: Dinanath, Joymoti, Kanaklata, Swarnabh, IR 64, Tapaswami (modern varieties), Number 9, and Jagilee Boro (indigenous varieties) for two successive seasons (December-June, 2015-2016 and December-June, 2016-2017) to estimate their GWP and GHGI. The GWP of the rice varieties ranged from 841.52 to 1288.67 kg CO 2 -equiv. ha -1 and GHGI from 0.184 to 0.854 kg CO 2 -equiv. kg -1 grain yield. Significant differences (p < 0.05) in seasonal GHG emission, GWP, GHGI, CEE (carbon equivalent emission), photosynthetic efficiency, stomatal conductance, transpiration rate, and grain productivity among the rice varieties were observed during the investigation. A good correlation of GWP (p < 0.01) was recorded with rate of stomatal conductance and transpiration rate of the varieties. The present study reveals a strong relationship between plant biomass (p < 0.01) with GWP and CEE of the rice varieties. The variety IR 64 and Number 9 are identified as the most suitable variety with lowest GWP (909.85 and 876.68 kg CO 2 -equiv. ha -1 respectively) and GHGI (0.192 and 0.227 kg CO 2 -equiv. kg -1 grain yield respectively) accompanied by higher grain productivity (4839 and 3867 kg ha -1 respectively). Observations from the study suggest that agricultural productivity and GHG mitigation can be simultaneously achieved by proper selection of rice genotypes.

Vehicular emissions are considered one of the major anthropogenic sources of greenhouse gases and poor air quality in metropolitan cities. This study aims to see the correlation of CO 2 , CH 4 , and CO through monitoring over a period from December 2020 to October 2021 covering three seasons' winter, summer, and monsoon at two different traffic locations of Delhi having different traffic volumes, road patterns, and traffic management. The annual average morning concentration of CO 2 , CH 4 and CO was found (533 ± 105), (7.3 ± 3.1), (10.7 ± 3.0) ppm at Najafgarh and (480 ± 70), (5.2 ± 1.8), (7.8 ± 2.8) ppm at Rajendra Place, respectively. A relationship between concentration of all three gases and meteorological parameters such as temperature, humidity, wind speed and wind direction has also been investigated using Pearson correlation coefficient and pollution rose diagram. A comparable pattern in concentration was observed for all three gases in spatial (location) and temporal (diurnal) distribution. The concentration trend of CO 2 in different seasons is winter > summer > monsoon, while in the case of CH 4 winter = summer > monsoon but not any seasonal trend was noted in CO case. In India, majority of the generated municipal solid waste (MSW) was dumped in poorly managed landfills and dumpsites over the past decades and is an environmental and health hazard. Landfill mining is a promising solution to reclaim these sites along with the recovery of resources (materials and energy). During landfill mining operations, the combustible fraction is one of the major components recovered and needs proper management for maximizing resource recovery. For the identification of appropriate resource recovery options, knowledge of the physicochemical characteristics is required. The present study aims to assess the depth-wise change in the composition of legacy waste and the physicochemical characteristics of the combustible fraction. Furthermore, a material flow analysis considering the incineration of combustible fraction was performed to estimate the energy generation potential and the associated greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The results of the compositional analysis of dry legacy waste revealed that the fine fraction (<4 mm soil-like material) was dominating with a share of 36%. The depth-wise analysis showed a decrease in the calorific value with increasing landfill depth, while no specific trend was observed for the other parameters analyzed, including proximate and ultimate analysis, and chlorine content. The material flow analysis performed for 100 tonnes of wet legacy waste indicated that 52 tonnes of waste is combustible fraction. We investigated methane (CH 4 ) and nitrous oxide (N 2 O), two important greenhouse gases (GHGs) emissions using the closed chamber method from a flooded rice field in Brahmaputra valley of Assam, northeast part of India. We tried to understand the factors responsible for the emission and identify appropriate agro-technologies for their mitigation. Various factors like water level, drainage management, soil organic carbon management, crop management, fertilizer amendment, cultivar type etc. affect the GHG production and emission from the flooded rice soil. In this study, six treatments were employed, namely, farmer's practice (FP), recommended fertilizer dosage (RDF), direct seeded rice (DSR), intermittent wetting drying (IWD), use of efficient methanotrophs (MTH), and use of ammonium sulfate as a nitrogen source for real-time nitrogen management using leaf color chart, (AS). GHG flux was measured through the static closed chamber technique. Soil temperature, pH, and redox potential (Eh) and other soil physico-chemical and biological properties that have a potential role in GHG emission were also assessed. The lowest CH 4 flux was observed in IWD treatment. The highest CH 4 but lowest N 2 O flux was observed in RDF thus portraying a tradeoff relationship among these two GHGs. The highest N 2 O flux was observed in AS. Changes in Eh strongly altered CH 4 and N 2 O emissions. The CH 4 flux for the growing season varied from 62.5 to 86.3 kg ha -1 with an average of 72.4 kg ha -1 . The average N 2 O flux was 0.89 kg ha -1 with values fluctuating between 0.72 - and 1.08 kg ha -1 . The findings of this study could assist in understanding the factors affecting the source, production, and sink of these two important GHGs. IWD, along with judicious N-based fertilizer use, could provide significant respite from GHG emissions in rice-based agriculture. This paper explores business models for community energy storage (CES) and examines their potential and feasibility at the local level. By leveraging Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) approaches and real-world case studies in Europe and India, it presents insights into CES deployment opportunities, challenges, and best practices. Different business models, including community energy cooperatives, utility–community partnerships, demand response, energy services, and market mechanisms, are analyzed. The proposed method combines the MCDM method PROMETHEE II with the fuzzy set theory to obtain a complete CES business model ranking, addressing project uncertainties. The analysis emphasizes CES's role in balancing local renewable energy supply and demand, facilitating energy sharing, and achieving energy independence. Findings prioritize models like Community Cooperative, Energy Arbitrage, and Energy Arbitrage Peak Shaving for CES with renewables. Environmental benefits include reduced diesel use and greenhouse gas emissions. Efficient cooperatives are advocated to recover costs and enable competitive energy prices. The paper highlights the need for novel value propositions to boost the energy transition in local communities. Attributional life cycle assessment study examines the environmental impact of raw materials, machinery, and unit operations. In the present work, an attributional life cycle assessment (LCA) was employed to assess the environmental and greenhouse gas impacts of a shrimp feed production system. A commercial shrimp feed mill in Tamil Nadu, India, provided inventory data for one-ton shrimp feed (functional unit) for a Cradle-to-Gate evaluation using environmental impact methodologies, specifically Impact 2002+ in SimaPro® (V9.3.0.3) software. The results showed that human health (0.003357 DALY), ecosystem quality (2720.518 PDF × m 2  × yr), climate change (2031.696 kg CO 2 eq), and resources (71019.42 MJ primary) were the most significantly impacted. The human health category was found to be the most prominent after normalization and weighting (0.47 pt), and strategies were suggested accordingly. The GWP20 and GWP100 measures for long-term climate change were calculated to be 8.7 and 7.33 kg CO 2 eq, respectively. Cast iron used in machinery production (GWP 20-15.40%, GWP100-134.5%) and electricity use (GWP 20-6.13%, GWP 100-6.9%) accounted for sizable portions of the burden. Feed production is estimated to contribute 0.2% of global CO 2 emissions within the proposed global context. The rise in green energies attempts to fulfil worldwide energy needs while substituting fossil fuels. It does, however, necessitate a vast amount of land. On the other hand, food security is jeopardized by the effects of climate change as well as an expanding population, particularly in India. As India strives for net-zero emissions by 2050, the integration of photovoltaics (PV) with agriculture has unlocked an emerging field known as agrivoltaics (AV). Agrivoltaics not only provides a long-term solution to the issue of land competition, but it also increases agricultural yields, conserves water resources, and lowers greenhouse gas emissions. To evaluate the elements influencing the efficiency of AV, studies on revolutionary technologies connected to solar systems and the latest generation of photovoltaics are examined. This paper looks at agrivoltaics as a climate-conscious farming option with its advantages and disadvantages in India. Nitrous oxide (N 2 O) is the third most potent greenhouse gas (GHG) and the most important ozone depleting substance. But how global N 2 O emissions are connected through the interwoven trade network remains unclear. This paper attempts to specifically trace anthropogenic N 2 O emissions via global trade networks using a multi-regional input-output model and a complex network model. Nearly one quarter of global N 2 O emissions can be linked to products traded internationally in 2014. The top 20 economies contribute to about 70% of the total embodied N 2 O emission flows. In terms of the trade embodied emissions classified by sources, cropland-, livestock-, chemistry-, and other industries-related embodied N 2 O emissions account for 41.9%, 31.2%, 19.9%, and 7.0%, respectively. Clustering structure of the global N 2 O flow network is revealed by the regional integration of 5 trading communities. Hub economies such as mainland China and the USA are collectors and distributors, and some emerging countries, such as Mexico, Brazil, India, and Russia, also exhibit dominance in different kinds of networks. This study selects the cattle sector to further verify that low production-side emission intensities and trade cooperation can lead to N 2 O emission reduction. The estuaries provide the key pathway for travelling carbon across the land-ocean interfaces and behave as both source and sink of greenhouse gases (GHGs) in water-atmosphere systems. The sink-source characteristics of estuaries for GHGs vary spatially. The primary driving factors are adjacent ecologies (agriculture, aquaculture, etc.) and proximities to the sea. To study the sink-source characteristics of estuaries for GHGs (methane (CH 4 ), nitrous oxide (N 2 O) and carbon dioxide (CO 2 )), the water samples were collected from 53 different locations in the estuaries for estimation of dissolved GHGs concentration and air-water GHGs exchanges. The locations represent five zones (Zone I, II, III, IV and V) based on the type and degradation status of mangroves (degraded and undisturbed), anthropogenic activities, and distance from the sea. Zone I, III, V represents to the degraded mangroves far from sea, whereas, Zone II, IV surrounded by undisturbed mangroves and nearer to sea. The average dissolved CH 4 concentrations were higher in the estuaries which were adjacent to degraded mangroves (154.4 nmol L -1 ) than undisturbed mangroves (81.7 nmol L -1 ). Further, the average dissolved N 2 O concentrations were 48% higher in the estuaries nearer to degraded mangroves than that of undisturbed ones. Among the degraded mangrove sites, the dissolved CO 2 concentrations were higher at Zone I (30.1 μmol L -1 ) followed by Zone III and IV, whereas in undisturbed sites, it was higher in Zone IV (22.3 μmol L -1 ) than Zone II (17.6 μmol L -1 ). Among the 53 locations, 36, 51 and 33 locations acted as a sink (negative value of exchanges) for CH 4 , N 2 O and CO 2 , respectively. The higher sink potential for CH 4 was recorded to those estuaries adjacent to undisturbed mangroves (-791.69 μmol m -2  d -1 ) than the degraded ones (-23.18 μmol m -2  d -1 ). Similarly, the average air-water N 2 O and CO 2 exchanges were more negative in the estuaries which were nearer to undisturbed mangroves indicating higher sink potential. The pH, and salinity of the estuary water were negatively correlated with air-water CH 4 and N 2 O exchanges, whereas those were positively correlated with CO 2 exchanges. Significantly lower dissolved GHGs and air-water GHGs exchange was observed in the estuaries adjacent to the undisturbed mangrove as compared to the degraded mangrove. Wetlands provide numerous ecological and economic services to mankind. The soils of wetlands are one of the largest sinks of carbon (C) among the terrestrial ecosystems and can play an important role in offsetting the emission of C as a greenhouse gas (GHG) to the atmosphere. India is bestowed with enriched wetland ecosystems that support diverse and unique habitats. The potential of the wetlands in terms of C capture and sequestration has not been quantified. Therefore, in the present paper, an assessment of C capture from different sources and its ultimate deposition in soils leading to sequestration has been done in three different types of wetlands, one created sewage-fed and two natural floodplain oxbow lakes, in the West Bengal state of India. Multiple seasonal sampling of water, macrophytes, and soil was done to assess the primary productivity, dissolved C, and deposition of C in soils of the wetlands in comparison to reference upland sites. All these wetlands are productive ecosystems as indicated by the physicochemical parameters of water and soil. The quantity of C accumulated up to 0.3 m depth in the oxbow lakes was to the tune of 144–166 Mg/ha, which was 3.43–4.78 times higher than that in the corresponding reference upland sites. In the sewage-fed wetland, the C accumulation estimated as 50 Mg/ha was 1.27 times higher than its corresponding upland site. So, the wetland ecosystems, particularly the floodplains, are highly efficient in accumulating C in their soils and thus can somewhat negate the GHG emission. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper examines the impacts of trade openness, GDP per capita, and urbanization air pollution. It takes into consideration data on India during the period 1961-2017 to see how trade openness, GDP per capita growth, urbanization have impacted CO2 emissions. To test for the existence of an inverted U shaped hypothesis, U-test is used in this paper. The data is subjected to various econometric tests, including unit root test, optimal lag test before applying the Johansen test for co-integration to understand the long-run relationship between the above variable. Then the unrestricted VAR model and Wald test are used to find the short-run causality between the variables under analysis. Biofuel covers major parts of the transportation sector in the global economic scenarios. Therefore, the impact assessment parameters like environmental, economic, and social are necessary to evaluate for better understanding. Keeping in mind, a life cycle assessment of biodiesel has been done using Jatropha curcas as feedstock. All the steps from cradle (cultivations, pre-treatment, and transesterification) to gate (biodiesel production) have been evaluated. The functional unit of one ton of biodiesel has been taken as reference, and environmental impacts are assessed accordingly using SimaPro. In the current paper, the conventional and room temperature process for biodiesel production is compared in terms of mid-point categories like greenhouse gas (GHG) emission and other endpoint categories like human health, ecosystems, and resources. The results from the life cycle assessment (LCA) indicates that the room temperature process is more energy-saving than the conventional process. Room temperature biodiesel produced around 1195 kg CO2 eq of emission contributing to global warming, whereas the conventional biodiesel contributed around 1228 kg CO2 eq to GHG emission. Further, the Monte Carlo analysis was carried out to quantify the uncertainty in the process in terms of normalized global warming potential. Agriculture in India accounts for 18% of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and uses significant land and water. Various socioeconomic factors and food subsidies influence diets in India. Indian food systems face the challenge of sustainably nourishing the 1.3 billion population. However, existing studies focus on a few food system components, and holistic analysis is still missing. We identify Indian food systems covering six food system components: food consumption, production, processing, policy, environmental footprints, and socioeconomic factors from the latest Indian household consumer expenditure survey. We identify 10 Indian food systems using k-means cluster analysis on 15 food system indicators belonging to the six components. Based on the major source of calorie intake, we classify the ten food systems into production-based (3), subsidy-based (3), and market-based (4) food systems. Home-produced and subsidized food contribute up to 2000 kcal/consumer unit (CU)/day and 1651 kcal/CU/day, respectively, in these food systems. The calorie intake of 2158 to 3530 kcal/CU/day in the food systems reveals issues of malnutrition in India. Environmental footprints are commensurate with calorie intake in the food systems. Embodied GHG, land footprint, and water footprint estimates range from 1.30 to 2.19 kg CO2eq/CU/day, 3.89 to 6.04 m2/CU/day, and 2.02 to 3.16 m3/CU/day, respectively. Climate change poses serious risks to Indian agriculture as half of the agricultural land of the country is rainfed. Climate change affects crop yield, soil processes, water availability, and pest dynamics. Several adaptation strategies such as heat- and water stress-tolerant crop varieties, stress-tolerant new crops, improved agronomic management practices, improved water use efficiency, conservation agriculture practices and improved pest management, improved weather forecasts, and other climate services are in place to minimize the climatic risks. The agriculture sector contributes 14% of the greenhouse gas (GHG) from the country. Mitigation of GHG emission from agriculture can be achieved by changing land-use management practices and enhancing input-use efficiency. Experiments in India showed that methane emission from lowland rice fields can be reduced by 40–50% with alternate wetting and drying (AWD), growing shorter duration varieties, and using neem-coated urea according to soil health card (SHC) and leaf color chart (LCC). Dry direct-seeding of rice, which does not require continuous soil submergence, can reduce methane emission by 70–75%. Sequestration of carbon (C) in agricultural soil can be promoted with the application of organic manure, crop residues, and balanced nutrients. India has taken several proactive steps for addressing the issues of climate change in agriculture. Recently, it has also committed for reducing GHG emission intensity by 45% by 2030 and achieving net zero emission by 2070. India has committed to reducing the emissions intensity of GDP by 33–35% from the 2005 level by 2030 in alignment with objectives of the Paris Agreement. This will require a significant reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the food and land-use sector. In this paper, we construct three potential pathways for India to achieve its emissions target by 2050 involving moderate ambitions of mitigation action (BAU), moderate ambitions combined with achieving healthy diets (BAU + NIN), and high levels of mitigation action inclusive of healthy diets (SUSTAINABLE). Using an integrated accounting tool, the FABLE Calculator, that harmonizes various socioeconomic and biophysical data, we project these pathways under the conditions of cross-country balanced trade flows. Results from the projections show that the demand for cereals will increase by 2050, leading to increased GHG emissions under BAU. Under the SUSTAINABLE pathways, GHG emissions will decrease over the same period due to reduced demand for cereals, whereas significant crop productivity and harvest intensity gains would lead to increased crop production. The exercise reveals the indispensability of healthy diets, improved crop, and livestock productivity, and net-zero deforestation in achieving India's mid-century emission targets from the agriculture sector. Justice and responsibility are central notions shaping the international climate negotiations. However, countries have different perspectives on how to translate these concepts into solutions for climate change. In this process, actors such as the European Union (EU) play a central role, by trying to persuade other large greenhouse gas (GHG) emitters to take on their (historical) responsibilities and by supporting developing countries. At the same time, China and India have become central actors in international climate negotiations. Due to their rapid economic growth and rising GHG emissions, their climate action is crucial for achieving global goals, while their historical emissions are very different from those of Western countries. To shed light on the EU's perspective on climate justice, and the particular role of China and India therein, this article analyses Members of European Parliament's (MEPs) narratives in plenary debates on foreign climate policy between 1996 and 2019. MEPs' views contribute to shaping the EU's position on the topic, but also provide useful insights into the political dynamics of the debate. The paper finds that climate justice is mentioned in less than half of the MEPs' speeches, but that its salience increased over time and became more diverse in terms of different dimensions of climate justice. We also uncover that MEPs' positions on China and India evolved with the rise in their emissions, becoming increasingly critical over time. In this paper, an application of linear programming in optimizing the procurement and movement of coal for an Indian coal-fired thermal power-generating company is presented. Results show that there is immense potential not only for significant cost savings but also for reduced logistics between different coal source-power plant pairs. The target plant load factor at each power plant can be achieved without the need of any imported coal which would not only save precious foreign exchange, but also reduce the logistics involved in the import of coal and transport to power plants. Sensitivity analyses have also been performed with varying coal supply and coal quality levels. The issue of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from coal-fired power plants has also been addressed. The trade-off between the optimal total cost and GHG emission targets has been explored. Results show that it is possible to significantly reduce carbon footprints with a marginal increase in the optimal total cost and without the need of import of coal. However, if it is desired to further reduce GHG emission targets, optimal total costs rise substantially with imported coal gradually substituting domestic coal. It is believed that the results presented in this paper would provide a fresh perspective with regard to the allocation and movement of coal. While the Global North is historically responsible for the majority of greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere, Newly Industrializing Countries (NICs) are expected to overtake developed country emissions in the coming years. At the same time, NICs are climbing the ladder of the global economy, increasing their competitiveness on the global stage and catching up with technological competencies of developed economies. Against this background, this paper explores innovation and collaboration in Climate Change Mitigation Technologies (CCMTs) in NICs. The research question is whether the propensity to innovate and diffuse CCMTs is impacted by technological collaboration with two highly developed countries, Germany and The United States. The sample of NICs includes the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) plus Israel, Mexico, and Turkey, in a panel from 1995 to 2015. The empirical results suggest that collaboration with both Germany and the U.S. is highly significant for domestic CCMT innovation in NICs. These findings are important because, stepping beyond the literature on the merits and drawbacks of global climate governance tools such as the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and related UNFCCC processes, they show that collaboration for climate and environmental technologies could become a key tool to significantly improve the chances to stay in line with the Paris Climate Agreement. Inland waters are important sources of greenhouse gases and emissions from polluted subtropical systems may be contributing to the observed global increase in atmospheric methane concentrations. Here we detail a scoping study where dissolved concentrations of greenhouse gases methane (CH 4 ), carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) and nitrous oxide (N 2 O) were measured in two contrasting urban lakes in Bangalore (Bengaluru), Karnataka, India, from June 2018 to February 2020. Bellandur Lake is a severely polluted system whilst Jakkur Lake has been subject to partial restoration via treatment of organic matter inputs. Methane concentrations in Bellandur Lake were three orders of magnitude higher than in Jakkur Lake, with a mean concentration of 3.02 ± 1.57 mg CH 4 -C L -1 compared to 1.72 ± 1.22 μg CH 4 -C L -1 . At Bellandur Lake, dissolved CO 2 concentrations were of the same order of magnitude as for CH 4 , whereas at Jakkur Lake dissolved CO 2 concentrations were two orders of magnitude greater than for CH 4 . Concentrations of N 2 O were negligible in both lakes. Extrapolating our data to estimate greenhouse gas fluxes, mean daily methane fluxes from Bellandur Lake were consistently in excess of 1000 mg CH 4 m 2 d -1 , rendering the lake a source of GHGs to the order of 148,350 ± 21,790 ton yr -1 CO 2 -e yr -1 , compared to 100 ± 37 ton CO 2 -e yr -1 from Jakkur Lake, with CH 4 contributing primarily to this difference. Cement is a basic requirement of today's society and is the only thing that humans consume more volume than water, but cement manufacturing is the most energy- and emission-intensive process. Hence, the cement industry is currently under pressure to reduce greenhouse gases (GHGs) emissions. Climate change mitigation strategies implemented in the industry leads to GHGs reduction, climate risks, pollutants, and another adverse impact on the environment. In order to implement climate change mitigation strategies in the cement industry, a careful analysis of barriers that hinder the emission reduction must be taken. However, most existing research on the barriers to mitigation measures is focused on developed countries. Among the most important emerging economies, India, the second-largest producer and consumer of cement, faces challenges to implement emission reduction measures. To bridge this gap, this paper identifies and evaluates the barriers and solutions to overcome these barriers in the context of India. This study employs a three-phase methodology based on fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and fuzzy technique for order performance by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) to identify barriers and solutions to overcome these barriers to climate change mitigation strategies adoption in Indian cement industry. Fuzzy AHP is employed to prioritize these barriers, and to rank solutions of these barriers, Fuzzy TOPSIS is employed. Ten Indian cement manufacturing industry is taken to illustrate the proposed three-phase methodology. Finally, the result of the analysis offers an effective decision support tool to the Indian cement industry to eliminate and overcome barriers to mitigation strategies adoption and build their green image in the market.

Recently, biomass is gaining a position as a renewable energy source. Considering its availability, India is a biomass-rich country and the second-largest sugarcane producer in the world. However, shifting towards biofuel and its strategic implementation requires thorough analysis. This paper gives a detailed analysis and case studies associated with fuel blending and its environmental impacts. It proposes a novel strategy for achieving the Indian government's target of 20 % ethanol blending with petrol from sugarcane. This paper provides the modalities to decide on the proportion of sugarcane juice and, B molasses and C molasses to be used for making ethanol. Additionally, the life cycle analysis of greenhouse gas emissions is worked out. India is facing a double burden of malnourishment with co-existences of under- and over-nourishment. Various socioeconomic factors play an essential role in determining dietary choices. Agriculture is one of the major emitters of greenhouse gases (GHGs) in India, contributing 18% of total emissions. It also consumes freshwater and uses land significantly. We identify eleven Indian diets by applying k-means cluster analysis on latest data from the Indian household consumer expenditure survey. The diets vary in calorie intake [2289-3218 kcal/Consumer Unit (CU)/day] and dietary composition. Estimated embodied GHG emissions in the diets range from 1.36 to 3.62 kg CO 2eq. /CU/day, land footprint from 4 to 5.45 m 2 /CU/day, whereas water footprint varies from 2.13 to 2.97 m 3 /CU/day. Indian diets deviate from a healthy reference diet either with too much or too little consumption of certain food groups. Overall, cereals, sugar, and dairy products intake are higher. In contrast, the consumption of fruits and vegetables, pulses, and nuts is lower than recommended. This paper compares the observed and simulated performance of a 11.2 kWp grid-connected rooftop solar PV system installed in SOA (Deemed to be University), Bhubaneswar, India. The system consists of 40 polycrystalline silicon modules tilted at an angle of 21° facing towards the south. The performance parameters were measured during 2015 and were analysed by using two software tools: PVSyst and HelioScope. The measured annual energy generated by the PV system was found to be 15.33 MWh. The predicted annual energy yield by PVSyst and HelioScope with Meteonorm-derived data was found to be 9.2% and 14.75% higher than the measured value, but the predicted energy yield by HelioScope with ISHRAE data is in close approximation to the measured annual energy yield. The probable availability of renewable power sources is unexceptionable, and the government of India is setting high goals for the use of renewable energy. Renewable distributed generation (DG) reduces the need for fossil fuels, relieve environment change, and decrease radiations of CO2 and other perfluorocarbons. DGs and capacitors are more desirable choices to balance power demand closer to the load centres than centralized power generation. Optimal position and capacity of DGs play an essential role in enhancing the performance of distribution systems in terms of system loss mitigation, voltage profile enhancement and stability concerns. This paper introduces Harris Hawk Optimization (HHO) and Teaching Learning-Based Optimization (TLBO) approaches for efficient distribution of different types of DGs in the radial distribution system (RDS) to enhance system loss minimization, voltage profile, yearly energy savings and decreasing the greenhouse gas emissions. The aim is to depreciate system energy losses, cost of energy losses and more reliable voltage regulation within the frame-work of RDS planning. Four different cases are considered to assess the suggested algorithms. Simulations are carried out on IEEE 33-bus and 69-bus test RDSs. The preponderance of the recommended approaches has been shown by analysing the results with techniques available in the literature. The comparison is made based on the power losses and voltage profile of RDS. This paper analyses the future trends (2000-2030) in Methane and Nitrous Oxide emissions across four scenarios that have been developed for India. The future state of Indian economy in the next 30-years has been broadly visualized under four scenarios proposed as combinations of market integration (extent of liberalization, globalization and integration with the world markets) and nature of governance (centralization vs. decentralization). The methodology chosen for the development of these scenarios draws mainly from the IPCC SRES methodology. The paper presents CH4 and N2O emissions for each of the scenarios for all the major emitting sectors. The major sources of Methane emissions are livestock and paddy contributing to about 65% of the total emissions in 2000. The share of emissions from Municipal Solid Waste is also expected to rise with increasing urbanization. The policy discussions for sharing the global responsibility for abatement of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by individual countries take account neither of the pattern of their final consumption nor of the role of globalization through trade in the leakage of GHGs across national boundaries. This paper gives the methodology of estimating the total emissions of a GHG, which is imputable to the consumption pattern of a country and the effect of trade on the net leakage of such gas. The paper estimates the effect of trade on the net leakage of carbon dioxide and methane from India. It shows a significant net leakage of carbon dioxide from India for the observed consumption pattern in the 1990s. In spite of the difficulty of application of the method of estimating the leakage due to data constraints regarding regularly updated input–output tables for the different countries, the results point to the necessity of using some policy measure to influence globally the preference structure of the people in favour of eco-friendly consumption patterns. In India, a significant portion of the population is still dependent on traditional biomass as fuel for household cooking. The combustion of conventional fuel for cooking usually negatively impacts human health and the environment. Biogas can have multiple benefits; it includes saving time to collect firewood, is a clean fuel, and may reduce greenhouse gas emissions. A national program on biogas is implemented in India since the 1980s. However, there is a considerable difference between the potential and its utilization. Also, biogas' emission through leaks and intentional release is regular with poorly maintained digesters, which questions the environmental benefits it might have. This paper assessed the significance of biogas as a cooking fuel. The results show that, if adequately maintained, biogas result in minimum GHGs emissions than other fuel options. However, if not, this will result in a harmful impact on the environment. Furthermore, annually 1181.31 PJ of useful energy is required for cooking in India. However, currently the contribution of biogas is <0.5 %. In addition, it is also found that in the current scenario, overall GWP from household cooking is about 204,479.92 Gg CO 2 eq. If energy from surplus animal dung is harnessed correctly, 321.62 PJ per annum of useful energy can be harnessed. The use of biogas can reduce 20 % of GWP from India's household cooking. Economic analysis shows that installing a biogas digester is an economic viable option with IRR of 54 %. This paper forecasts the growth of freight transport emissions in India's trucking sector until 2050. We use the ARIMAX time series model to project the commercial vehicle population under various economic growth scenarios. CO 2 emissions are estimated using emission factors, distance traveled, and the projected commercial vehicle population. We use the validated forecasting model to investigate how emissions can be curbed through vehicle scrappage policies or fleet electrification to realign with the 2015 Paris Agreement's targets. Compared to the business-as-usual (BAU) scenario, 10-year and 15-year vehicle scrappage policies are estimated to reduce freight emissions by 6–11% and 1–2%, respectively. Fleet electrification has more pronounced effects as it results in a 35% and 70% reduction in carbon emissions for heavy and light goods vehicles in 2050, respectively, compared to the BAU scenario. The increasing concentrations of greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere along with the increasing temperatures exacerbate the situation, making it one of the major issues for food security. This research aims to explore the effects of climate change on food production in India. More specifically, this study investigates the impact of temperature, rainfall, CO2, methane, and N2O emissions and energy use on food production using a time spanning from 1990 to 2019 and explores the major critical factors impacting food production in India. The study used autoregressive distributed (ARDL) estimates for long-run and short-run cointegration. The empirical results demonstrated that energy use, rainfall, and methane emissions improve food productivity, whereas temperature and N2O emissions undermine food production in the long run and short run. However, the results revealed that CO2 emissions do not affect food production. Additionally, we used the dynamic ordinal least squared approach to verify the robustness of ARDL results. The results also demonstrate that N2O emissions and temperature are critical determinants of food production, indicating that a rise in temperature and N2O emissions significantly reduces food production in India. On the other hand, the findings show that methane emissions and rainfall significantly increase food production with a coefficient of 0.19 and 0.059, respectively. The most important adaptation strategies that should be considered due to climate change are reducing greenhouse gas emissions, expanding renewable energy investment, and adopting new technologies to combat environmental challenges. The Sixth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has elucidated that the uninterrupted emission of greenhouse gases has resulted in climate change posing the biggest existential threat to humanity. India, which stretches from the Himalayas to the fertile plains of Ganges to the long west and east coast, is experiencing an array of climate change impacts. India's vulnerability is closely tied to the region's geography, economy, and population patterns. Considering the colossal population, vulnerability, and gross GHG emission, the success of climate action in India will be a major contributory factor in the global response to climate change. India has played a proactive and prominent role in elucidating the position of developing nations in climate negotiation but has not enacted climate-specific legislation. As a consequence, the climate responses have been a continuum of policy actions, drawing on various provisions of the Indian Constitution, and existing environmental legislative provisions drawing on the various international environmental instruments to which India is a signatory. Forest management is a sector closely linked with climate change in terms of impacts and addressing climate change in India. The Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets of India envisaged under the Paris Agreement reveal the weightage attached to forests in the climate change response. This paper attempts to capture the legislative framework governing climate change in India, focusing on the general environment protection laws and forest management. Understanding the causality between energy consumption, carbon emissions and economic growth is helpful for policymakers to formulate energy, environmental and economic policies. For the first time, based on nonlinear dynamics, this paper employs multispatial convergent cross mapping (CCM) to revisit the energy-carbon-economy causation for China, India and the G7 countries using both aggregate data and per capita data. The findings indicate that there are significant differences between developing countries and developed countries. A bidirectional nexus between energy consumption, carbon emissions and economic growth is found in China and India, but various causal relationships are identified in the G7 countries, including bidirectional, unidirectional and neutral nexus. The results confirm that the decoupling phenomenon is common in most G7 countries. By leveraging a variety of samples and a new approach, this study provides new evidence for policy authorities to formulate country-specific policies to obtain better environmental quality while achieving sustainable economic growth. Abstract Physical, Regulatory and Brand value risks due to climate change challenges are foreseen by businesses globally. This paper is oriented towards these challenges and prepared a comprehensive Greenhouse gases (GHG) footprint plan and identification of mitigation opportunities for ONGC, a fortune 500 and national oil company of India. Internationally recognized standards and guidelines like Greenhouse Gas Protocol, ISO-14064, and American Petroleum Institute compendium have been referred for quantifying carbon emissions in nearly real 400 + operation control facilities. The GHG inventory is based on Operational Control approach to identify the boundary for which emissions are to be quantified and two significant scopes of emissions viz Direct Emissions and Indirect Emissions are identified and quantified. The quantification concluded that GHG emission footprint for the year 2016–17 is in the range of 9 million tons of CO 2 equivalent. GHG emissions mainly account due to stationary combustion, fugitive emissions and wastewater treatment, which share the around 56% of total emissions. Another 24–26% of emissions are contributed due to flaring, processes by glycol dehydrator, acid gas removal units, and by electricity purchased from the grid. As a result, it has been found that ONGC emits 187 kg CO 2 e emissions per tonne throughput and also compared with its global peer organizations. At the organization level, "Key Industrial Sites" have been identified as contributing higher GHG emissions and accordingly key "hot-spots," a list of 15 GHG mitigation opportunities have been proposed in the paper. Two GHG mitigation initiatives based on solar energy and bioenergy application undertaken at ONGC has also been briefed on case studies. The world is facing a crucial time as the impact of Climate change has now emerged as one of the major challenges for the world. The contribution of Government, public institutions, community, and businesses have now become more critical. As the energy sector has a significant impact on GHG emissions, it becomes imperative to find out the motivation behind sustainability disclosures. This study focuses on finding out the level of sustainability disclosures of top energy companies of India along with capturing the reason for disclosing the triple bottom line performance of the company. The paper has studied sustainability reports of the top 10 energy companies in India. The companies were chosen based on the market capitalization of the public listed companies in the energy sector of India. Using analysis, the study finds out that the depth of reporting on sustainability indicators with national & international sustainability frameworks of the selected companies to disclose their sustainability performance to the stakeholders. The research reveals that the top internal motivation for the companies is to disclose their social and environmental performance to the stakeholders while the top external motivation is to align their sustainability disclosures. The study also suggests that the major benefit that the companies have perceived from sustainability reporting is that they can now benchmark their sustainability performance with other companies in order to improve environment / social aspects. This means that the energy sector which plays an important role in climate change has started evaluating its social and environmental performance in a commitment to address sustainability issues. Devising effective national-level climate action plans requires a more detailed understanding of the regional distribution of sources and sinks of greenhouse gases. Due to insufficient observations and modelling capabilities, India's current carbon source–sink estimates are uncertain. This study uses a high-resolution Lagrangian transport model to examine the potential of available CO 2 observations over India for inverse estimation of regional carbon fluxes. We use four different sites in India that vary in the measurement technique, frequency and spatial representation. These observations exhibit substantial seasonal (7.5 to 9.2 ppm) and intra-seasonal (2 to 12 ppm) variability. Our modelling framework, a high-resolution Weather Research and Forecasting Model combined with the Stochastic Time-Inverted Lagrangian Transport model (WRF–STILT), performs better in simulating seasonal (R2=0.50 to 0.96) and diurnal (R2=0.96) variability (for the Mohali station) of observed CO 2 than the current-generation global models (CarboScope, CarbonTracker and ECMWF EGG4). The seasonal CO 2 concentration variability in Mohali, associated with crop residue burning, is largely underestimated by the models. WRF–STILT captures the seasonal biospheric variability over Nainital better than the global models but underestimates the strength of the CO 2 uptake by crops. The choice of emission inventory in the modelling framework alone leads to significant biases in simulations (5 to 10 ppm), endorsing the need for accounting for emission fluxes, especially for non-background sites. Our study highlights the possibility of using the CO 2 observations from these Indian stations for deducing carbon flux information at regional (Nainital) and suburban to urban (Mohali, Shadnagar and Nagpur) scales with the help of a high-resolution model. The existing climate change scenario calls for immediate intervention to curb rising greenhouse gas emissions. An improved understanding of the regional distributions of carbon sources and sinks under the perturbed climate system is vital for assisting the above mitigation efforts. The current uncertainties in estimation can potentially be reduced by employing a multi-data modelling system capable of representing atmospheric tracer transport adequately. This study focuses on the mesoscale transport patterns that can affect atmospheric tracer distribution and examines how well they are represented in the meteorological models employed. We investigate the capability of the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model to predict meteorological fields such as temperature, humidity, wind, and planetary boundary layer height (PBLH) by comparing different model simulations with surface and vertical profile observations available at urban and rural stations, Cochin and Gadanki, and with global reanalysis data over India. Combining different model schemes and data products allows us to present a model ensemble of 11 members. Using these ensemble simulations, the impacts of changes in physics schemes, initial and boundary conditions, and spatial resolutions on meteorology and, consequently, on CO2 mixing ratio simulations are quantified. Most simulations capture variations in temperature and moisture very well (R2> 0.75). The wind (R2> 0.75 for height above 2 km) and PBLH simulations (R2> 0.75 for daytime) are also reasonably correlated with the observations. The sensitivity to changing planetary boundary layer (PBL) schemes and land surface model (LSM) schemes on meteorological and CO2 mixing ratio simulations is significant, thereby producing higher inter-model differences between experiments. Our analysis provides an assessment of expected CO2 transport errors when using WRF-like models in the inverse modelling framework. We emphasise the importance of treating these errors in the carbon data assimilation system to utilize the full potential of the measurements and conclude that WRF can be utilised as a potential transport model for the regional carbon flux estimations in India. The main aim of this paper is to diagnose the impact of climate change with the analysis of its scenario, causes and its solutions in relation to energy sector. Initially, this paper discusses the scenario of climate change in India. Afterward, a comparative difference analysis of selected climatic variables is performed on the chosen areas and also determines the relationships among these variables. Both these objectives are performed by ANOVA, post-hoc, correlation and linear regression analysis. Subsequently, the forecasting of several climatic variables is performed from 2021 to 2025 by time series analysis utilizing the ARIMA (Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average) model. Then, this paper investigates the interdependency scenario between the climate change and the electricity sector. Afterward, this paper discusses some major impacts of climate change on the electricity sector. Then, this paper presents the present electricity scenario of India and the renewable power potential of India. Subsequently, this paper suggests some open research challenges with recommendations for improving the energy sector of India. The paper reports the observations of the aerosol studies carried-out for three years (2004-2007) during the summers and winters at Kaikhali (22.0220 N & 88.6140E) lying in the east coast of India inside a special mangrove ecosystem: 'The Sundarbans'. Aerosol optical depths were measured using a five filter channel sunphotometer with wavelengths at 340, 500,870, 936 and 1020 nm respectively. The sampling site enjoys a tropical climate and is under the strong influence of the southwest or summer monsoon and weak northeast or winter monsoon. The mean aerosol optical depth (AOD) during the winters (2004-2007) for the filter channels 340, 500, 870, 936 and 1020 nm have been found to be 1.478, 1.014, 0.579, 0.541 and 0.523 respectively whereas for the summer periods, they have been found to be 1.173, 0.859, 0.603, 0.564 and 0.597 respectively. The mean values of the angstrom exponent calculated for the winter and summer months over the years 2004-2007 have been found to be 1.283, 0.999, 1.285 and 1.094, 1.167 and 1.91 respectively. Generally the higher angstrom exponent values during the winter periods over the years from 2004-2007 except for the year 2005-2006 indicate high ratio of smaller fractions to larger fractions. The values of Angstrom exponents observed at the site suggest that the aerosol comprise mostly of the small size particles. The global energy requirement has grown at a phenomenon rate and the consumption of primary energy sources has been a very high positive growth. European energy policy has not faced up to something about which there is increasingly little doubt: global reduction, or even stabilisation in energy use will not be achieved unless Europe and the other rich OECD countries aim at significantly curbing their energy services (heat, light, motive power, mobility and so on). The policy makers at the centre of the policy discourse on energy sustainability suffer from a form for self-deception which revolves around the equation of 'efficiency' with 'reduction' and 'sustainability', i.e., the untenable contention that technological and market efficiency alone will offset continued growth in energy services to the extent that deep reductions in energy use are possible. Many researchers and environmentalists seem to have, partly for strategic reasons, adapted to this view and thereby supported politicians in the selfdeception. In this paper we use results from India and China, with more than one third of the world population, to show how there is likely to be dramatic increases in energy use and greenhouse gas emissions in those countries over the next halfcentury. Much of this increase will be in conjunction with the development of basic services and infrastructure for homes, businesses, transport, health and public services, so that it is neither ethical nor even practical to argue for restrictions in overall energy growth in these and other developing countries. This places the onus for deep reductions in energy use on Europe, North America and the other affluent countries. The paper explores what such a change of focus would mean for policy and research agendas, and why there is friction to moving the policy envelope from 'efficiency' to also include 'sufficiency'. The rapid increase in CO2 emissions has been a hot topic for whole world because of their major contribution to greenhouse gases (GHG) which is an ultimate cause of global warming. This study analyses spatially gridded data from EDGAR (Emissions Database for Global Atmospheric Research) and linear relationship using multiple linear regression model between CO2 emissions and four economic variables (energy use, urban population, gross capital formation and GDP at market prices) for Pakistan and India. Additionally, four major tools (f-test, t-test, time series analysis, and prediction errors) are used for the purpose of investigating linear relationship and efficiency of the model. EDGAR data shows that about 200 teragram CO2 has been emitted from Indo-Gangatic plain. Analysis revealed that the most effective predictor for both the Pakistan and India is energy use. The value of f-stat and t-stat showed that the economic variables have joint and individual significance for the regression model at p<0.05. Time series revealed that CO2 emissions increased gradually from 1971 to 2011. Error analysis indicated that regression model for Pakistan is more efficient than that of India. Majority of the power generation in India is carried out by conventional energy sources, coal and fossil fuels being the primary ones, which contribute heavily to greenhouse gas emission and global warming. The Indian power sector is witnessing a revolution as excitement grips the nation about harnessing electricity from various renewable energy sources. Electricity generation from renewable sources is increasingly recognized to play an important role for the achievement of a variety of primary and secondary energy policy goals, such as improved diversity and security of energy supply, reduction of local pollutant and global greenhouse gas emissions, regional and rural development, and exploitation of opportunities for fostering social cohesion, value addition and employment generation at the local and regional level. This focuses the solution of the energy crisis on judicious utilization of abundant the renewable energy resources, such as biomass, solar, wind, geothermal and ocean tidal energy. This paper reviews the renewable energy scenario of India as well as extrapolates the future developments keeping in view the consumption, production and supply of power. Research, development, production and demonstration have been carried out enthusiastically in India to find a feasible solution to the perennial problem of power shortage for the past three decades. India has obtained application of a variety of renewable energy technologies for use in different sectors too. There are ample opportunities with favorable geology and geography with huge customer base and widening gap between demand and supply. Technological advancement, suitable regulatory policies, tax rebates, efficiency improvement in consequence to R&D efforts are the few pathways to energy and environment conservation and it will ensure that these large, clean resource bases are exploited as quickly and cost effectively as possible. Global warming, threats to humankind as driven by the emissions of different greenhouse gases (GHGs) including carbon dioxide (CO2), is becoming a great concern to deal with the vagaries of climate. Plantation ecotypes with greater carbon(C) sink capability are leading among the potential abatement strategies for sequestration of terrestrial C. The present investigation emphasizes on total C stock and litter C status under 13 years old Swietenia macrophylla (Mahogany) pure plantation in Terai belt of West Bengal, India. Stratified tree technique was adopted to estimate the above ground biomass through non-destructive method whereas quadrate method of sampling was followed for estimating leaf litter. The present investigation showed that the total above ground biomass (AGB) of the plantation was 179.73 Mg ha−1 including 95.02 Mg ha−1 (52.83%) shared by stem and in other hand the branch contributed 55.37 Mg ha−1 (30.81%) and the remaining 29.34 Mg ha−1 (16.32%) by leaves. The below ground (root) biomass (BGB) was assessed to be 53.91 Mg ha−1. The biosphere part recorded C was 109.81 Mg ha−1, comprising the total C of AGB and BGB of 84.47 Mg ha−1 and 25.34 Mg ha−1, respectively. Soil C stock (at 0–60 cm) of 40.36 Mg ha−1 comprised 25.30 Mg ha−1 at 0–20 cm followed by 10.46 Mg ha−1 at 20–40 cm and 4.60 Mg ha−1 at 40–60 cm depth, respectively. The total litter production was 6.92 Mg ha−1 yr−1 in 2016–17 and 8.39 Mg ha−1 yr−1 in 2017–18, respectively. The amount of total C storage of plantation was observed to be 150.17 Mg ha−1, comprising 109.81 Mg ha−1 in biosphere and 40.36 Mg ha−1 in soil. The litter C stock of 3.48 Mg ha−1, was excluded from the ecosystem carbon budgeting (ECB), because it acts as a transitional between lithosphere and biosphere. Conclusively, the mahogany-based plantation is not only remunerative to the farmers but also provisions significant improvement in soil fertility along with C sequestration which deploys a crucial part in the sustainable maintenance of the ecosystem in addition to providing a guideline for ECB of the plantation. Carbon foot prints (CFs) studies based on life cycle assessment between sheep farming systems and green house gases (GHG) emissions is one of the best indicators to quantify the amount of GHG emissions per kg of product. Therefore, a life cycle assessment (LCA) study was conducted for three different sheep farming systems i.e. intensive system (stall fed only), semi-intensive (grazing with supplementation) and extensive system (grazing only) under semiarid region of India to assess the carbon cost of sheep rearing. The total CFs were estimated to be 16.9, 15.8 and 17.1 kg CO2-eq in intensive, semi-intensive and extensive system of grazing indicating semi-intensive system to be most carbon (C) efficient. For 1kg mutton production in semi-intensive and intensive system, around 30% and 24% CFs were contributed from enteric fermentation and feed respectively, whereas, in extensive system, the contribution of enteric fermentation increased up to 50%. The carbon foot prints analysis gives an insight of carbon inputs used but the amount of CO2 sequestered in soil making LCA a holistic approach for estimating GHG emissions from livestock. India is now the world's third-largest oil consumer, surpassing Japan and Russia. Today, biofuel research is conducted worldwide because surrounding two essential characteristics: sustainability and renewability. Biofuels have gained considerable significance as a result of dwindling oil sources, worries about energy security, and the escalating environmental issues associated with climate change and greenhouse gas emissions. In most cases, biofuels are produced by subjecting materials that have been densified to the process of heat conversion. In the disciplines of research and development, alternative energy development is a top focus. Due to the depletion of fossil fuel resources, it has become important to find innovative replacements for fossil fuels, such as biofuels, to generate heat and power. Biofuels may be generated using several methodologies, encompassing biological, chemical, and physical approaches. The three steps of densification systems' pre-, during-, and post-pelletization procedures convert biomass into pellets. Several agricultural wastes, such as grain dust, crop leftovers, and fruit tree residues, are available as sources of agricultural energy.
