CONTINUING education , *FISHER exact test , *FAMILY health , *CHI-squared test , *DESCRIPTIVE statistics - Abstract
Background: Breast cancer (BC) is a public health problem due to its incidence and mortality, with the possibility of prevention and early detection and consequent improvement of the prognosis through the actions of the Family Health Strategy (FHS). Objective: Investigate the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (CAP) of FHS professionals on actions to control BC recommended by the Ministry of Health and their association with sociodemographic and training characteristics. Method: Cross-sectional study with doctors and nurses from the FHS of Juiz de for a (MG, Brazil), using a self-administered structured questionnaire, in 2019. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the chi-square test, and Fisher's exact test, with a significance level of 5%. Results: A total of 170 professionals (93.0%) were surveyed, with a predominance of females (74.1%), aged 30 to 49 years (47.9%), and undergraduates older than 20 years (45.8%). Adequate CAP was 75.6%, 61.8%, and 78.4%, respectively. They had more adequate knowledge, younger professionals with better practices, and professionals with more time since graduation. Conclusion: The study found important gaps in the process of continuing education for FHS professionals, resulting in a possible obstacle to better control of CM. The evaluation enables targeted health actions and better planning to face the CM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PSYCHOLOGY of students , *PEOPLE with diabetes , *STANDARD deviations , *SYMPTOMS , *HEALTH literacy - Abstract
Objective: To verify the students' perception about diabetes in public schools. Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study, with students' interview to access their diabetes knowledge (signs and symptoms, food, and diabetes self-care at school). Content analysis was used for the open question, expressed by number of occurrences, and frequencies, means and standard deviations for the other results. Results: 302 students, with 9,1±1,5 years and 54% female. For "what is diabetes" there were 91 occurrences associated with negative consequences. For 95.4% of interviewees, people with diabetes cannot eat sweets, and for 32.8% diabetes is transmitted from person to person. Only 34.8% stated that the classmate with diabetes can participate in physical/recreational activities; and 32.1% replied that he/she could not have a snack with the others. Only 29.2% of the interviewees recognized that the classmate with diabetes would need to have something with sugar to eat/drink in case he/she feel bad. Conclusions: These results reinforce the need for action of diabetes education to improve students' knowledge and perception about diabetes in the school, as well as better management for students with this condition at that environment. Objective: Report the knowledge and perception of nurses and physicians about the morality of induced abortion and its legislation. Methods: Quantitative study, involving 39 nurses and physicians at two maternity hospitals in southern Brazil. For data collection the "Mosaic of Opinions on Induced Abortion" and a complementary questionnaire were used. For descriptive analysis and associations, the Data Analysis and Statistical Software statistical package was used. Results: It was found that the professionals have adequate knowledge about the legislation, insufficient knowledge about the documents necessary for legal abortion and about the right to conscientious objection, the latter occurred mainly among nurses. Professionals defend other possibilities of abortion in the legislation, and regarding the Mosaic, liberal standards prevail in comparison to conservatives. Conclusion: It is necessary to discuss the topic, expanding knowledge about women's sexual and reproductive rights and about conduct during abortion care. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: to present a situational diagnosis about the knowledge of health professionals about specific precautions. Methods: cross-sectional study, conducted in a philanthropic hospital in Minas Gerais, with 127 health professionals of higher education. For data collection, was used the instrument "Knowledge of health professionals on Specific Precautions" with 29 multiple choice questions, distributed in five thematic axes. Descriptive procedures and different statistical tests were performed for the analysis of the data. Results: the overall average number of correct answers was 64.7%. The thematic axis "Accommodation and structure" presented a significantly lower median number of correct answers (p<0.001) than the other axes. The axis "Epidemiological chain of transmission of microorganisms" presented a median of 60% and the axes "Environment Care" and "Communication" had a median of 66.7%. The highest median of correct answers occurred in the axis "Personal protective equipment (80%)". Conclusion: assertiveness was low in all thematic axes, which can compromise the quality and safety of the care provided. Thus, there is a need to promote educational actions with innovative strategies, sensitizing these professionals about the adoption of these precautionary measures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CERVICAL cancer , *EARLY detection of cancer , *FOCUS groups , *HUMAN papillomavirus , *PAP test - Abstract
Objective. To document Grenadian women's knowledge about cervical cancer and human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, as well as their attitudes towards primary cervical cancer screening methods. Methods. In this qualitative study, we used focus groups in Grenada to gather information concerning women's knowledge about, attitudes towards and perceptions of screening for cervical cancer and general knowledge about HPV. Ten focus groups comprising 73 participants representing 5 of the 6 parishes in Grenada were conducted with women aged 19--59. Participants were asked about pelvic exams, Pap smears, HPV, reasons for seeking or avoiding cervical cancer screening and how different modalities of testing might affect their decision-making. Responses were then coded and organized into common themes. Results. While many respondents had heard of HPV, far fewer knew about its causative role in cervical cancer, how to prevent HPV infection or testing for the high-risk HPV types that cause almost all cases of cervical cancer. Many participants were aware that cervical cancer screening was beneficial, but numerous barriers to obtaining that screening were noted, including concerns about privacy and stigma, potential discomfort, and the cost and inconvenience involved. Conclusions. Our findings have implications for future cervical cancer screening efforts in Grenada. Central to these efforts should be a focus on educating Grenadians about the role of HPV infection in cervical cancer and the importance of early detection through screening. In addition, addressing issues of stigma and privacy are key to eliminating cervical cancer in Grenada. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CRONBACH'S alpha , *SELF medication , *PRIMARY audience , *TEST validity , *HEALTH literacy - Abstract
Objective: To build and validate an instrument to investigate the knowledge, attitudes and practices of Brazilian university students about self-medication. Method: Methodological study carried out at a public university in the center of western Minas Gerais, Brazil. A committee of judges assessed clarity, relevance and comprehensiveness and the pre-test carried out with a target audience to assess understanding and acceptability. The content validity index (CVI) was used to assess the proportion of agreement and Cronbach's alpha coefficient (α) to measure reliability. Results: The instrument consisted of 38 items divided into three sections: characterization of participants (13 items); knowledge and practices of self-medication (3 items); and beliefs and attitudes (22 items). The mean CVI for all sections of the instrument was 0.97 and the Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the beliefs and attitudes section >0.70. Conclusion: The instrument was considered valid to assess knowledge, practice, beliefs and attitudes about self-medication in university students. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
To analyze the social representations of AIDS in people living with HIV who are attended at three municipal health centers. Descriptive, qualitative study, supported by the structural approach of the Theory of Social Representations. The scenarios were three Health Centers in Rio de Janeiro. 180 people living with HIV participated. Data collected through a sociodemographic questionnaire and with the technique of free evocation of words to the inducing term aids. Sociodemographic data were organized in an Excel spreadsheet. Evocation analysis was performed using the EVOC software. The central nucleus was integrated by the elements disease-normal, fear, bad, normal life and death. The maximum tree points out the lexicons disease-normal and prejudice as an indication of centrality. It demonstrates the existence of a process of change being operated, with the consolidation of the possibility of living with the disease, through elements that characterize the adaptation to the evolution of the new context of the syndrome. To analyze the prevalence of falls prevention practices among informal elderly caregivers and the associated factors. Cross-sectional study with 97 informal caregivers of elderly people from five Family Health Strategy units. Data collection took place in June and August 2017, using a validated questionnaire. In multivariate analysis, Poisson multiple regression was used. The prevalence of caregivers' fall prevention practices was 26.8%. The most preventive fall measures adopted and reported by caregivers were mainly to watch the elderly (57.7%), avoid loose carpets in the house (28.9%) and wet floors (23.7%), to guide the elderly to walk with caution (18.6%) and restrict the activities of the elderly (12.4%). Prevention practices were associated with the variables years of study (p = 0.027), marital status (p = 0.047) and attitudes of caregivers (p = 0.037). The prevalence of fall prevention practices performed by caregivers is low and needs to be encouraged by professionals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: The Covid-19 pandemic has affected the emotional health of human resources in health care, despite having knowledge about the virus and its management, health care personnel, including nurses, have shown stress and fear of Covid-19. Objective. To describe and correlate the level of fear, stress, knowledge, attitudes and practices regarding Covid-19 in nursing students and recent graduates in Colombia. Method. A cross-sectional and analytical observational study was conducted in Colombia between October and November 2020. The instruments of fear, stress and knowledge, attitudes and practices regarding Covid-19 were answered online by 1621 nursing students and recent graduates. Results. A mean fear score of 20.69 ± 6.1 points, a mean stress score of 89.15 ± 29.5 points and relative frequencies above 80% for knowledge, attitudes and practices to Covid-19 were observed. Direct correlations were observed between knowledge and attitudes and, in turn, attitudes with the practice. Fear was inversely correlated with knowledge and directly correlated with Covid-19 stress. Conclusion. An adequate cognitive level is observed in nursing students and recent graduates, but an emotional deficiency in the Covid-19, in terms of stress and fear. It is necessary to establish mental health support strategies for this key population in the current and future control of health crisis situations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Oral hormonal contraceptives are among the contraceptive methods most used by women, when used correctly, it is highly effective, but for proper use, it is essential that they have adequate knowledge and attitudes about them. Objective: To build and validate an inquiry to assess knowledge, attitudes and practice on or use of oral hormonal contraceptive. Methods: Methodological study, which took place in two stages: construction of the survey and validation by expert judges. The content validity analysis was performed using the Content Validity Index (CVI). The judges evaluated each item individually, with respect to language clarity, practical relevance and theoretical relevance. The Research Ethics Committee approved the research. Results: In the integrative literature review, 34 publications were selected and their analysis allowed the identification of the three categories: knowledge, attitudes and practice regarding the use of oral hormonal contraceptives, which led to the construction of the survey with 34 questions. As for the CVI, most of the questions had a value greater than 0.8 (80.0%), which was used as a parameter. Regarding the total CVI per judge, 10 (83.3%) of them also had a value higher than 0.8. The total CVI of the survey was 0.86. Conclusions: The constructed survey proved to be a valid instrument for obtaining a situational diagnosis of the levels of knowledge, attitudes and practice of a given population that uses oral contraceptives. ANTHROPOLOGY , *MEDICAL personnel , *DIETARY supplements , *HEALTH literacy , *SOCIAL groups , *CONSUMER goods , *REFLECTIVE learning - Abstract
In the field of studies of the Humanities and Social Sciences on Food, this manuscript problematizes the uses of dietary supplements as a sociocultural construction in the context of body practices. In the same way that the behavior of "eating" can be understood specifically from particular social groups in a given historical time, this essay discusses the relevance of the anthropological field for the analysis of the material and symbolic conditions of "taking" dietary supplements by practitioners of the fit culture. Thus, based on a narrative review, this manuscript aimed to analyze and discuss the emergence of the anthropological analysis to understand the relationships between body practices and dietary supplements, especially for professional health intervention. In general terms, this manuscript selected four arguments to support the theoretical and methodological potential of Anthropology for the health work profession regarding these products. In summary, this text considered that these substances intake reveals social experiences and practices that can be modulated, articulated, interpreted, and incorporated into the prescription or guidance in clinics or in the spaces of body practices. The study concludes that, due to the increase in the consumer market for these products, there is a need to defend a dialogical, affective, sensitive, integral, critical, reflective, emancipated professional intervention and, above all, human intervention on the supplementation process. Objective: to compare the knowledge and attitudes of nursing professionals working in public and private hospitals on oral hygiene in critically ill patients. Method: a cross-sectional study carried out in two adult Intensive Care Units, one public and the other one private, between the period of December 2018 and January 2019, using a structured and self-administered questionnaire. Results: the knowledge rate of professionals in the public hospital was 76.6% and the attitude was 62.7%, while in the private hospital, these rates were 81.8% and 67.1%, respectively. There were significant differences regarding the existence of a protocol (p <0.006), participation in training (p <0.004), and the use of a toothbrush with soft bristles and suction (p <0.001) in the private hospital. Conclusion: the knowledge level was higher, and the attitudes toward oral hygiene were more positive among nursing professionals at the private hospital compared to the professionals at the public hospital. - Abstract
Objective: In the world it is estimated that 291 million women are carriers of Human Papillomavirus (HPV), and its importance is due to the association with cervical cancer. Thus, it is necessary to understand the level of knowledge of women who are at risk of developing the disease. Method: For this, a questionnaire was applied to women between 18 and 40 years old. Results: Most women (97.6%) know that HPV is related to cancer and 91.9% responded that HPV is a risk factor for cancer. As for the clinical manifestations, 60.3% had partially correct answers, what shows satisfactory knowledge on the subject. Of those interviewed, 79.8% also are acquainted to the HPV detection method. Conclusion: It is concluded that, despite the main information on the subject being sedimented, it is possible to perceive a great insecurity of the interviewees regarding their own knowledge. These data reinforce the need to build new articles and campaigns on the subject as a mean to increase the dissemination of information associating HPV with cancer in order to consolidate such knowledge. - Abstract
Objective: To assess clinicians’ knowledge about pulmonary rehabilitation, and identify the barriers faced when referring patients with health insurance to pulmonary rehabilitation. Methods: This was a survey-based cross-sectional study conducted in 2019, at a private reference hospital in São Paulo, Brazil. Eligible participants were physicians registered with the following specialties: internal medicine, geriatrics, cardiology, pulmonology or thoracic surgery. Results: We collected 72 responses, and 99% of participants recognized chronic obstructive pulmonary disease as a potential indication for pulmonary rehabilitation; less often (75%), they listed interstitial lung disease, bronchiectasis and pulmonary hypertension. Most participants (67%) incorrectly associated pulmonary rehabilitation with lung function improvement, while 28% of cardiologists and 35% of internists/geriatricians failed to recognize benefits on mood disorders. Notably, 18% of participants recommended pulmonary rehabilitation only to patients on supplemental oxygen and 14% prescribed only home physical therapy, patterns more commonly seen among non-respiratory physicians. The three most perceived barriers to referral and adherence were health insurance coverage (79%), transportation to pulmonary rehabilitation center (63%) and lack of social support (29%). Conclusion: Financial, logistic and social constraints pose challenges to pulmonary rehabilitation enrollment, even for patients with premium healthcare insurance. Moreover, physician knowledge gaps may be an additional barrier to pulmonary rehabilitation referral and adherence. Providing continued medical education, incorporating automatic reminders in electronic medical records, and using telerehabilitation tools may improve pulmonary rehabilitation referral, adherence, and ultimately, patient care. This study aimed to describe, from the literature, knowledge, attitudes and practices of nurses and doctors about the management of syphilis. Research was carried out in the VHL and CAPES Journal Portal, using the descriptors "Health knowledge, attitudes and practice" AND "Syphilis", with full text, published between the years 2009 and 2019. 4 articles and 5 dissertations were analyzed. Deficiencies were found in the definition of cases, diagnosis, treatment with penicillin and also in the treatment for those allergic to this drug. Inadequacies were found in attitudes recommended in the protocols and related to calling partners for testing. Practices related to the partner's approach and the prescription and administration of penicillin at the BHU also showed weaknesses. It is concluded that there is a long way to go in search of conformity of knowledge, attitudes and practices of doctors and nurses regarding the management of syphilis and that permanent education in health can be a way out to face this reality. ACTION research , *INTERPROFESSIONAL relations , *MEDICAL care , *NURSES , *NURSING practice , *PRIMARY health care , *REFLECTION (Philosophy) - Abstract
Objective: to understand and encourage the development of best practices among nurses in a Health Care Network. Methodology: action research, based on Paulo Freire's methodological framework. Three Culture Circles were held with 10 nurses working in the West of Santa Catarina, between the months of June to August 2018. The information was analyzed in the light of the attributes of Primary Health Care. Results: the ideal of best practices converges with strategies such as interlocution, integration and support between nurses and other professionals of the Network, constituting the basis for resolving Primary Care. The challenges for its realization permeate the change in the model of care, reflecting, above all, in the realization of the essential attributes in Primary Care. Conclusions: the study provoked reflection and, to a certain extent, the reconstruction of the praxis of nurses, who perceive themselves as protagonists, within the scope of the health system. Assess adherence and knowledge to Standard Precautions (SP) and the impact of individual, workrelated and organizational factors on the adherence of the nursing team to the aforementioned safety measures. Cross-sectional, correlational, descriptive study using the following instruments: sociodemographic questionnaire, Standard Precautions Adherence Questionnaire (SPAQ), SP Knowledge Questionnaire (SPKQ) and eight scales referring to an explanatory model of SP adherence. The final sample consisted of 172 professionals. The SPAQ obtained a mean of 71.94 points (SD = 6.40) and the SPKC, 15.44 (SD ± 1.48). Significant correlation (p=0.001) between adherence and personality of risk, perception of risk, perception of obstacles to follow SP, training and availability of PPE was verified. We conclude that psychosocial and organizational factors were correlated with adherence. No statistical significance was found for the impact of knowledge on adherence to SP. However, it is necessary to raise awareness of the multifaceted nature of adherence to those referred to as security, which pervade individual but also organizational factors and therefore require direct and permanent involvement of management of health institutions, through education in health and infrastructure needed for safe behavior. Abstract Objective: To verify the students’ perception about diabetes in public schools. Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study, with students’ interview to access their diabetes knowledge (signs and symptoms, food, and diabetes self-care at school). Content analysis was used for the open question, expressed by number of occurrences, and frequencies, means and standard deviations for the other results. Results: 302 students, with 9,1±1,5 years and 54% female. For “what is diabetes” there were 91 occurrences associated with negative consequences.

Objective: To assess the quality when filling out a health follow-up instrument for children in a town in northeastern Brazil. Method: It is a cross-sectional study involving 204 children who received care at 16 family health units. This study analyzes how they filled out the child's health card (CS) and the Child's Health Record (CSI), the differences between both and the associated factors. Results: the filling out was unsatisfactory in 37.2% of the CS and 50.5% of the CSI. Regarding the CSIs, the correct filling out was observed less often in the following cases: supply of iron supplements (0%), development checkups (1.1%), prenatal care (9.9%), feeding after stopping the breastfeeding (17.6%), and growth curves (0%-27.5%). There was a lower percentage of correct filling out for the CSIs regarding the baby's name, type of labor and weight indication in the graph. Newborns from married mothers (p = 0.045) and female babies (p = 0.017) showed lower probability of inappropriate filling out of both CSs and CSIs, respectively. Conclusion: The instrument for health surveillance in children is being underused. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract The study aimed to investigate the knowledge, attitudes and practices of professionals of the Family Health Strategy (FHS) on the control of uterine cervical cancer (CCU) recommended by the Ministry of Health (MS). This is a cross-sectional study, which used a self-administered questionnaire with the doctors and nurses of the FHS of Juiz de Fora, MG, in 2019. For analysis, the chi-square and Fisher’s exact test were used, 5% level of significance. Among the 170 surveyed, which corresponded to 93% of FHS professionals in the city, the prevalence of adequate knowledge was 39.4% and had association with younger age and female gender. The prevalence of an adequate attitude was 59.5% and of appropriate practices 77.6%, both associated with a longer time since graduation. The presence of the Ministry of Health guidelines in the units was associated with the outcomes, knowledge and adequate practice, confirming the importance of support material for consultation by professionals. Only 28.2% of professionals reported having received training in the last 3 years and 50.3% carried out educational actions for users. The need for permanent education actions with professionals is highlighted, aiming at a more effective action to confront and eradicate CCU.

Objectives: to construct and validate an instrument to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to pressure injury prevention among caregivers of institutionalized older people. Methods: this is a three-stage methodological study that consisted of instrument construction, analysis by experts, and semantic and appearance analysis, with 78 participants, observing the validation process steps for psychometric instruments in the criteria of clarity and relevance. Results: in the Delphi I round, the validity index of the general content in the clarity criterion was 0.66, in relevance 0.85, and the Kappa value was >0.76. In Delphi II, clarity was 0.95, relevance 1.00, and the Kappa value was >0.97. Conclusions: this is a valid instrument in terms of content and appearance, which allows further analysis of its reliability for the measurement of the constructs for which it is intended. Therefore, it can be considered a tool for care management in pressure injury prevention.
