Abstract

The article offers insights from therapist Sharlan Trotter before her death in 1997. Topics discussed include her policy of maximal disclosure of a therapist's terminal illness from the moment of diagnosis consistent with the patient's needs, and the damaging effects of abandonment and mourning that unplanned terminations put on clients. Also noted are Trotter's attempts to collect information on patients' therapy perception, and her support system's role during the process of dying at work.
