The article presents a study of the tribocorrosion phenomenon and its effects on Inconel 718 alloy produced conventionally by extrusion and additively manufactured using the laser powder bed fusion method. In addition, the samples were subjected to a heat treatment process to change their properties. The research was carried out using the pin-on-disk method in 3.5% NaCl. Based on the study, it was found that the material made with additive technology is more resistant to tribocorrosion phenomenon, and the difference from conventionally made material is about 50%. The synergistic effect between friction and corrosion (ΔZ) occurred. However, heat treatment in the AA-2 variant ensures higher hardness and reduces purely mechanical wear (ZM) and the synergy effect (ΔZ). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article presents a study of tribocorrosion resistance of AISI 420 steel in extracts of allium cepa (onion juice). The tests were conducted for 3 variants of heat treatment and two ball pressures of 4.5 and 14 N on a ball-on-plate test stand. For all AISI 420 martensitic steel specimens tested in tribocorrosion tests, a clear friction-corrosion synergy effect was found, ranging from 30 to 60 % of total tribocorrosion wear. The lowest mechanical wear was found for samples after low-temperature tempering at 200 °C (54 HRC). Under tribocorrosion conditions, samples after medium-temperature tempering at 400 °C (51 HRC) were more resistant to wear. The results of the tests were used to make an onion-cutting blade, which found industrial application in one of the food industry factories. • Tribocorrosion tests were performed in the extracts of allium cepa of AISI 420 steel. • Specimen with different properties as a result of tempering temperatures were tested. • The highest hardness does not provide the best resistance to tribocorrosion process. • A model of tribocorrosion in the extracts of allium cepa was formulated. This paper presents the influence of a nanobainitising (N-B) and bainitising, quenching and partitioning (B-Q&P) heat treatments on corrosion resistance and wear resistance in corrosive environment on carburised 42NiSiMo8-3-7-F steel, as compared to steel after quenching and tempering (Q&T). Nanobainitizng leads to produce nanobainitic microstructure and the B-Q&P treatment resulted in ultra-fine, multiphase microstructure composed of nanobainite, martensite and temperature-stable austenite. It was revealed that steel after novel heat treatments, despite multiphase microstructure, large number of grain boundaries and high residual stress showed similar corrosion resistance in 3.5% NaCl solution and better wear resistance in dry sliding conditions as well as in corrosive environment. In addition, volume loss due to wear in corrosive environment was almost twice as low as in dry sliding test. Obtained results show that novel heat treatments of steel may be successfully applied instead of traditional Q&T without the risk of lowering corrosion resistance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
