Autori predstavljaju projekt nastao suradnjom Konzervatorskog odjela u Trogiru Ministarstva kulture i medija te Javne vatrogasne postrojbe Grada Trogira. Iako je inicijalno zamišljen kao jednogodišnji projekt s primarnim ciljem revidiranja postojeće procjene ugroženosti za povijesnu jezgru, projekt je nadišao prvotno zamišljene okvire i u smislu aktivnosti i broja uključenih partnera. Vatrogasci i konzervatori radili su zajedno kako bi uključili cijeli sektor civilne zaštite grada i aktivirali lokalnu zajednicu kroz DIG (disaster imagination game) i InSight radionice. Štoviše, projekt je prerastao u nacionalni program smanjivanja rizika od požara na baštini koji podupiru Ministarstvo kulture i medija te Hrvatska vatrogasna zajednica., This paper presents a project delivered in collaboration between the Conservation Department of the Ministry of Culture and the Trogir Fire Department. Although originally planned as a one-year project, with the aim of revising the existing Fire Risk Assessment for the historic city core of Trogir, it surpassed its initial framework, both in terms of activities and the partners involved. Fire-fighters and conservators worked together to engage the entire civil protection sector in the city, and to involve the local community through a disaster imagination game and InSight workshops. Moreover, the project has grown into a national programme for fire mitigation in heritage sites, supported by both the Ministry of Culture and the Croatian Fire Association.

Las ciudades históricas y sus contornos paisajísticos han sido castigados en España, con extraordinaria dureza, por un desarrollismo que se inició en la dictadura franquista y continuó en la democracia. Recuperar la sensibilidad pintoresca, que no ha tenido aquí el arraigo que sí tuvo en países como Italia, constituye un paso necesario para atinar en la conservación de los valores paisajísticos y naturales que todavía conservan algunas localidades españolas, alejando de ellas no solo la cruda especulación, sino también las sobreactuaciones proyectuales basadas en nuevos materiales y contundentes volúmenes., Historic cities and its landscape contours have been beaten in Spain, with extraordinary hardness, by a developmentalism that began in the Franco dictatorship and continued in democracy. Retrieve the picturesque sensitivity, which has not had the roots that did in countries like Italy, is a necessary step to serve in the conservation of the landscape and natural values that still retain some Spanish localities, moving away from them not only the raw speculation, but also the overacting in architectural projects based on new materials and strong volumes.

Resumen El patrimonio como dispositivo de validación de unas formas determinadas de memoria justificaría la imposición de una cultura dominante, expresada no sólo en elementos materiales sino también de lugares memoria. El objetivo del manuscrito es el análisis del proceso mediante el cual algunos actores sociales, generalmente excluidos de las representaciones patrimoniales hegemónicas, deben articularse a una nueva narrativa de la ciudad histórica como patrimonio. Este nuevo discurso de la ciudad histórica, se escenifican otras territorialidades a las que Foucault denomina espacios heterotópicos. A nivel metodológico se aborda desde la perspectiva teórica, una conceptualización amplia sobre el espacio como problema histórico, referenciando ejemplos de algunas ciudades como Dublín, París, Madrid o Ibagué, de las que se han realizado algunas lecturas puntuales sobre la configuración de otras espacialidades, que generalmente han quedado excluidos de la forma dominante en que se ha definido el patrimonio en las ciudades históricas. Se concluye con la necesidad de articular estos nuevos lugares de memoria a una nueva redefinición de las ciudades históricas, con miras a una planificación más inclusiva de los espacios patrimoniales. Nesse novo discurso da cidade histórica, outras territorialidades são encenadas que Foucault chama de espaços heterotópicos. A nível metodológico, do ponto de vista teórico, realiza-se uma ampla conceituação do espaço como problema histórico, referenciando exemplos de algumas cidades como Dublin, Paris, Madrid ou Ibagué, das quais foram feitas leituras específicas sobre a configuração de outras espacialidades , que geralmente foram excluídos da forma dominante de definição do patrimônio nas cidades históricas. Conclui com a necessidade de articular esses novos lugares de memória a uma nova redefinição das cidades históricas, com vistas a um planejamento mais inclusivo dos espaços patrimoniais. Abstract Heritage as a validation device for certain forms of memory would justify the imposition of a dominant culture, expressed not only in material elements, but also in places of memory. The objective of the manuscript is to analyze the process by which some social actors, generally excluded from hegemonic patrimonial representations, must articulate themselves with a new narrative of the historic city as heritage. In this new discourse of the historic city, other territorialities are enacted that Foucault calls heterotopic spaces. At a methodological level, from a theoretical point of view, a broad conceptualization of space is carried out as a historical problem, referring to examples from some cities such as Dublin, Paris, Madrid or Ibagué, from which specific readings were made on the configuration of other spatialities, which they were generally excluded from the dominant way of defining heritage in historic cities. It concludes with the need to link these new places of memory to a new redefinition of historic cities, with a view to a more inclusive planning of heritage spaces.

By analyzing the urban landscape, this investigation focuses on some commercial typologies that exist in historical urban areas and its relationship with the urban landscape and its heritage values. Trade plays an essential role in historical urban areas, both in the past and in the present, since it is part of the urban landscape&mdash, creating it and modifying it, but also preserving it. Historical protected urban areas contain diverse elements reflecting the impacts of commercial activities that have existed in cities throughout history. At present, the urban landscape of commercial activity is made up of a multiplicity of typologies and formats which interact with the historical landscape and its values, using them to strengthen its strategies of attraction, differentiation, and sales. Shop owners contribute to the preservation of historic urban areas by maintaining the commercial functions within them. Therefore, we affirm that the role of commercial activity in the preservation of urban protected areas is essential. However, further research is needed because this aspect has not been addressed in depth by the scientific community specializing in the management of cultural heritage.

International audience; The article explores the context of historic conservation in Europe and then considers how this has become the preserve of urban planner and architect, and what it means in terms of innovation and growth, within successful historic cities, and more particularly in university town of Grenoble. Specifically, the article explores the relationship between the town in the mountains, the industrial town and how the link between town, science and higher education provides a narrative and a platform to understand the history of its development as well as its success.

Over the past few decades sustainability concerns have gained central importance in the contemporary debate about the future development of cities. In this worldwide context a particular category of cities is suffering from pressures never seen before: the historic urban landscape, where urban conservation strategies must be integrated within the larger goals of overall sustainable development.In this frame, certain questions emerge: is it possible that sustainable development aims coexist with the principles of urban heritage preservation? What could it be the connection between urban heritage and sustainable development? How urban conservation can open up to sustainability, while keeping intact tangible and intangible values and heritage? Recognizing sustainability as a primary challenge that urban conservation faces, the thesis is divided in three parts: the first part is dedicated to the literature review, in order to converge the actual scientific production, abundant but sectorial; starting from an international perspective, the second part focuses on the French case study, reviewing the influence of national legislation concerning planning and environment, which includes sustainability aims, on urban conservation tools; lastly, the third part analyses critically the case study of Paris, emblematic to demonstrate the possible adaptation of urban conservation tools in order to take into account sustainability aims.The research finds that an integrated approach appears to be necessary, both at theoretical and operative level, and some first stage answers had been provided in this direction.; L’analyse des processus qui définissent la durabilité urbaine est au centre du débat actuel concernant le développement futur des villes. Dans ce contexte général que nous définissons de " course à la durabilité ", la ville historique se trouve simultanément confrontée à deux impératifs majeurs : d’un côté assurer la réalisation des objectifs du développement durable, de l’autre assurer la protection du patrimoine urbain. À partir de ces éléments, la thèse interroge la relation entre développement durable et protection du patrimoine urbain, à la fois d’un point de vue théorique et pratique, en posant la question de recherche suivante : dans quelle mesure la ville historique peut-elle devenir une ville durable tout en sauvegardant son patrimoine ? La recherche se divise en trois parties : une première partie consacrée aux aspects théoriques et épistémologiques, ayant pour but d’organiser et de rendre convergente la production scientifique actuelle, abondante mais sectorielle, de ces deux impératifs ; une deuxième partie de transposition du débat théorique international au contexte français, qui nous a permis d’évaluer la possibilité d’intégration des politiques de durabilité et de protection du patrimoine ; enfin, une troisième partie, plus opérationnelle, qui explore nos questionnements et hypothèses par l’étude détaillée de trois cas parisiens emblématiques.En démontrant que la durabilité est appelée à modifier les équilibres de la protection du patrimoine urbain, la thèse propose des éléments de réponse pour que ces deux impératifs puissent s’articuler et être mieux intégrés dans les politiques urbaines des villes historiques.

Περιέχει τη περίληψη When a long-term research finishes, there is always a question about implementation and further development. In the case of HER.M.e.S, the Digital Heritage Management System of the Historic City of Hermoupolis, in a Greek Aegean Island, Syros, it was also a question about raising awareness. The research proved that 2.4 historic buildings collapse every year, as a result of abandonment. This phenomenon was intensified by the severe economic crisis in Greece. The research proposed an optimal conservation plan for the city, after carefully evaluating variables through a multi-criteria model using GIS and an innovating point system. But in order to apply this plan, we need to be able to update the data, as buildings are constantly changing through time. Updating a database with more than 1000 historic buildings, with no funds, is a huge challenge. Soon, we decided that the only way to go is to use a crowdsourcing method. Developing a digital heritage collection portal, using free open source software and serving crucial data for every building, was the answer to our problem. We asked citizens to check the data base, report mistakes, updates, stories, photographs and use the portal to learn about their city. This effort led us to a big digitization project, with up to 1290 historic buildings, 14.400 geo-tagged photos and more than 15.000 fields of information. The project HERMeS, as a conservation plan and a heritage digitization project won the 2015 European Union Europa Nostra Award in Category Research & Digitalisation.

International audience; The study of the processes which determine urban sustainability appear to be at the center of the contemporary debate on the future development of the city. This is particularly evident when regarding historic cities. Indeed the city of the future will ideally be smart and sustainable, while keeping intact their heritage and traditional values. But what could be the connection between urban heritage and sustainable development? What tools can be used to promote and assess the sustainability of historic urban landscape? This article reviews, after an international and comparative approach, two different and specific cases: Italy and France. Once explained the operative assessment model of the different countries, attention is drawn to the role of heritage indicators. The last part of the position paper concerns the need expressed by the principal actors of two cities, Turin and Paris, to provide both of the different realities with a diagnostic tool that contains dimensions of both heritage and sustainability, that will be the base for future urban decisions and a fundamental support for decision-makers.

Shop house is an urban terrace house attribute of Asian towns from the 18 th century which usually integrates a shop or business premise on the ground floor whilst the family dwells on the upper level, providing both ease and safety. The shop house might also be used entirely as dwelling quarters. Shop houses are constructed in rows and each row is arranged in blocks enclosed within a grid of main roads, back lanes and side roads. A shop house is usually two or three storeys high and is long and narrow, sharing a party wall with neighbours on either side. The Penang shop house is a ideal paradigm of a green building, using materials that are locally obtainable such as lime, clay stone and timber and suited to local geology and weather conditions. Shop houses also possessing architectural characteristics such as air vents and air-well that assist with natural ventilation and cooling. This paper will discuss categories and styles of the shop houses in historic city of George Town which can be divided into nine major groups.

Until the seventies, the old city of Cairo was the " bottom of the city " a depreciated sector but nowadays its value has enhanced and its destiny is discussed, planned and protected. From archaism to history, the meaning of the ancient center has changed: today, the historic, islamic or fatimid city appears as a place of memory, as a virtual conservatory of national identity. In this context, we will focus on the creation at the beginning of XXIth century, of prestigious Azhar Park, a panoramic garden project on the egyptian capitale's héritage landscape., Si jusqu'à la fin des années 1970 la ville ancienne du Caire incarnait " le fond de la ville ", espace déprécié et relégué, il n'en est plus de même. D'archaïque, elle est devenue historique et sa position a évolué de la marge au cœur de la cité. Ces représentations illustrent les reformulations opérées au cours des dernières décennies : les quartiers anciens se sont défaits des images évocatrices de l'extrême, tant spatial que social, captées aujourd'hui par d'autres secteurs. Les espaces, autrefois anachroniques dans une capitale voulue moderne, sont désormais historiques, islamiques, ou fatimides, lieux de mémoire et conservatoires d'une identité égyptienne. Dans ce contexte, nous évoquerons comment les requalifications et projets associés mobilisent des références empruntant aux registres national et islamique, ainsi qu'au langage architectural et urbanistique mondial. En témoigne, en ce début de XXIe siècle, l'aménagement ex nihilo du prestigieux parc al-Azhar, " plate-forme panoramique " sur le patrimoine des quartiers anciens de la capitale égyptienne.

Si, jusque dans les années 1970, la ville ancienne du Caire pouvait incarner, en tant qu'allégorie sociale, le " fond de la ville " , soit un espace déprécié, relégué et répulsif, il n'en est plus de même. Aujourd'hui, " Le Caire historique " est un espace emblématique de la mémoire nationale, un territoire de projets urbains de référence au cœur de la capitale. Ces deux images illustrent les profondes mutations de la signification et de la prise en considération d'un même espace opérées au cours des quatre dernières décennies. Aussi, l'objet de cet article est d'évoquer comment ces reformulations et projets associés mobilisent et mettent en scène des références culturelles liées à la notion d'héritage, en empruntant, de manière combinée, aux registres égyptien et islamique, ainsi qu'au langage architectural et urbanistique mondial. Une réalisation phare de ce début de XXIe siècle en est l'exemple privilégié : l'aménagement ex-nihilo, entre muraille ayyoubide et nécropole mamelouke, du prestigieux parc al-Azhar, financé par la fondation Aga Khan et conçu comme une " plate-forme panoramique " sur le patrimoine de la vieille ville du Caire.
