Abstract

We perform a systematic analysis of the $J/\psi \to \gamma \pi^0\pi^0$ and $\to \gamma K_S^0 K_S^0$ partial waves measured by BESIII. We use a large set of amplitude parametrizations to reduce the model bias. We determine the physical properties of seven scalar and tensor resonances in the 1-2.5 GeV mass range. These include the well known $f_0(1500)$ and $f_0(1710)$, that are considered to be the primary glueball candidates. The hierarchy of resonance couplings determined from this analysis favors the latter as the one with the largest glueball component., Comment: 17 pages, 11 figures + 28 pages of Supplemental Material

Abstract

We report on the measurement of spin density matrix elements of the $\Lambda(1520)$ in the photoproduction reaction $\gamma p\rightarrow \Lambda(1520)K^+$, via its subsequent decay to $K^{-}p$. The measurement was performed as part of the GlueX experimental program in Hall D at Jefferson Lab using a linearly polarized photon beam with $E_\gamma =$ 8.2-8.8 GeV. These are the first such measurements in this photon energy range. Results are presented in bins of momentum transfer squared, $-(t-t_\text{0})$. We compare the results with a Reggeon exchange model and determine that natural exchange amplitudes are dominant in $\Lambda(1520)$ photoproduction., Comment: 11 pages, 8 figures, accepted version

Abstract

The production of $\eta^{(\prime)}\pi$ pairs constitutes one of the golden channels to search for hybrid exotics, with explicit gluonic degrees of freedom. Understanding the dynamics and backgrounds associated to $\eta^{(\prime)}\pi$ production above the resonance region is required to impose additional constraints to the resonance extraction. We consider the reaction $\pi^-p\to \eta^{(\prime)} \pi^- \,p$ measured by COMPASS. We show that the data in $2.4 < m_{\eta^{(\prime)}\pi} < 3.0$ GeV can be described by amplitudes based on double-Regge exchanges. The angular distribution of the meson pairs, in particular in the $\eta' \pi$ channel, can be attributed to flavor singlet exchanges, suggesting the presence of a large gluon content that couples strongly to the produced mesons., Comment: 25 pages, 30 figures, 6 appendices. Abstract

The quark structure of the $f_2(1270)$ meson has, for many years, been assumed to be a pure quark-antiquark ($q\bar{q}$) resonance with quantum numbers $J^{PC} = 2^{++}$. Recently, it was proposed that the $f_2(1270)$ is a molecular state made from the attractive interaction of two $\rho$-mesons. Such a state would be expected to decay strongly to final states with charged pions, due to the dominant decay $\rho \to \pi^+ \pi^-$, whereas decay to two neutral pions would likely be suppressed. Here, we measure for the first time the reaction $\gamma p \to \pi^0 \pi^0 p$, using the CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab for incident beam energies between 3.6-5.4~GeV. Differential cross sections, $d\sigma / dt$, for $f_2(1270)$ photoproduction are extracted with good precision, due to low backgrounds, and are compared with theoretical calculations., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

Abstract

We present the first measurement of the reaction gamma p -> a(2) (1320)(0) p in the photon energy range 3.5-5.5 GeV and four-momentum transfer squared 0.2 < -t < 2.0 GeV2. Data were collected with the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer detector at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. The a(2) resonance was detected by measuring the reaction gamma p -> pi(0)eta p Tip and reconstructing the pi(0)eta invariant mass. The most prominent feature of the differential cross section is a dip at -t approximate to 0.55 GeV2. This can be described in the framework of Regge phenomenology, where the exchange degeneracy hypothesis predicts a zero in the reaction amplitude for this value of the four-momentum transfer.

Abstract

We study the nature of the new signal reported by LHCb in the J/psi p spectrum. Based on the S-matrix principles, we perform a minimum-bias analysis of the underlying reaction amplitude, focusing on the analytic properties that can be related to the microscopic origin of the Pc(4312) peak. By exploring several amplitude parametrizations, we find evidence for the attractive effect of the Sigma_c+ D0bar channel, which is not strong enough, however, to form a bound state., 6 pages + Supplemental material. Abstract

We use Regge phenomenology to study the structure of the poles of the N* and Δ* spectrum. We assess the importance of the imaginary part of the poles (widths) to obtain a consistent determination of the parameters of the Regge trajectory. We compare the several pole extractions and show how Regge phenomenology can be used to gain insight into the internal structure of baryons. We find that the majority of the states in the parent Regge trajectories are compatible with a mostly compact three-quark state picture.

Abstract

In the search for exotic mesons, the GlueX collaboration will soon extract moments of the $����^0$ angular distribution. In the perspective of these results, we generalize the formalism of moment extraction to the case in which the two mesons are produced with a linearly polarized beam, and build a model for the reaction $\vec ��p \to ����^0 p$. The model includes resonant $S$-, $P$-, $D$-waves in $����^0$, produced by natural exchanges. Moments of the $����^0$ angular distribution are computed with and without the $P$-wave, to illustrate the sensitivity to exotic resonances. Although little sensitivity to the $P$-wave is found in moments of even angular momentum, moments of odd angular momentum are proportional to the interference between the $P$-wave and the dominant $S$- and $D$-waves. We also generalize the definition of the beam asymmetry for two mesons photoproduction and show that, when the meson momenta are perpendicular to the reaction plane, the beam asymmetry enhances the sensitivity to the exotic $P$-wave., 17 pages, 7 figures, match the published version

Abstract

We perform an analysis of the three-pion system with quantum numbers $J^{PC}=1^{++}$ produced in the weak decay of $\tau$ leptons. The interaction is known to be dominated by the axial meson $a_1(1260)$. We build a model based on approximate three-body unitarity and fix the free parameters by fitting it to the ALEPH data on $\tau^-\to \pi^-\pi^+\pi^-\,\nu_\tau$ decay. We then perform the analytic continuation of the amplitude to the complex energy plane. The singularity structures related to the $\pi\pi$ subchannel resonances are carefully addressed. Finally, we extract the $a_1(1260)$ pole position $m_p^{(a_1(1260))}-i\Gamma_p^{(a_1(1260))}/2$ with $m_p^{(a_1(1260))} = (1209 \pm 4^{+12}_{-9})\text{MeV}$, $\Gamma_p^{(a_1(1260))} = (576 \pm 11 ^{+89}_{-20})\text{MeV}$}., Comment: 20 pages, 22 figures

Abstract

We discuss the differences between several partial-wave analysis formalisms used in the construction of three-body decay amplitudes involving fermions. Specifically, we consider the decay Lambda_b -> psi p K- , where the hidden charm pentaquark signal has been reported. Abstract

We use Regge phenomenology to study the structure of the poles of the $N^*$ and $��^*$ spectrum. We employ the available pole extractions from partial wave analysis of meson scattering and photoproduction data. We assess the importance of the imaginary part of the poles (widths) to obtain a consistent determination of the parameters of the Regge trajectory. We compare the several pole extractions and show how Regge phenomenology can be used to gain insight in the internal structure of baryons. We find that the majority of the states in the parent Regge trajectories are compatible with a mostly compact three-quark state picture.

Abstract

We discuss the differences between several partial-wave analysis formalisms used in the construction of three-body decay amplitudes involving fermions. Specifically, we consider the decay Lambda b -> psi pK(-), where the hidden charm pentaquark signal has been reported. We analyze the analytical properties of the amplitudes and separate kinematical and dynamical singularities. The result is an amplitude with the minimal energy dependence compatible with the S-matrix principles.

Abstract

Many experiments that are conducted to study the hadron spectrum rely on peripheral resonance production. Hereby, the rapidity gap allows the process to be viewed as an independent fragmen- tation of the beam and the target, with the beam fragmentation dominated by production and decays of meson resonances. We test this separation by determining the kinematic regimes that are dominated by factorizable contributions, indicating the most favorable regions to perform this kind of experiments. In doing so, we use a Regge model to analyze the available world data of charge exchange meson production with beam momentum above 5 GeV in the laboratory frame, that are not dominated by either pion or Pomeron exchanges. We determine the Regge residues and point out the kinematic regimes which are dominated by factorizable contributions.

Abstract

We report measurements of the photon beam asymmetry $\Sigma$ for the reactions $\vec{\gamma}p\to p\pi^0$ and $\vec{\gamma}p\to p\eta $ from the GlueX experiment using a 9 GeV linearly-polarized, tagged photon beam incident on a liquid hydrogen target in Jefferson Lab's Hall D. The asymmetries, measured as a function of the proton momentum transfer, possess greater precision than previous $\pi^0$ measurements and are the first $\eta$ measurements in this energy regime. Abstract

A resonance-like structure, the P_c(4450), has recently been observed in the J/psi p spectrum by the LHCb collaboration. We discuss the feasibility of detecting this structure in J/psi photoproduction in the CLAS12 experiment at JLab. We present a first estimate of the upper limit for the branching ratio of the P_c(4450) to J/psi p. Our estimates, which take into account the experimental resolution effects, predict that it will be possible to observe a sizable cross section close to the J/psi production threshold and shed light on the P_c(4450) resonance in the future photoproduction measurements.

Abstract

The decays $��/��\rightarrow 3��$ are considered in the dispersive framework that is based on the isobar decomposition and sub-energy unitarity. The inelastic contributions are parametrized by the power series in a suitably chosen conformal variable that properly accounts for the analytic properties of the amplitude. The Dalitz plot distributions and integrated decay widths are presented. Our results indicate that the final state interactions may be sizable. We present a model for odd-$C$ (negative charge parity) glueballs with three constituent gluons. The model is an extension of a previous study of two-gluon glueballs. We show that, even if spin-1 gluons seem to reproduce properly the lattice QCD spectrum for $C=+$ states, the extension for $C=-$ cannot match with the lattice results. Abstract

We present a new amplitude analysis of the $\eta\pi$ $D$-wave in $\pi^- p\to \eta\pi^- p$ measured by COMPASS. Employing an analytical model based on the principles of the relativistic $S$-matrix, we find two resonances that can be identified with the $a_2(1320)$ and the excited $a_2^\prime(1700)$, and perform a comprehensive analysis of their pole positions. For the mass and width of the $a_2$ we find $M=(1307 \pm 1 \pm 6)$~MeV and $\Gamma=(112 \pm 1 \pm 8)$~MeV, and for the excited state $a_2^\prime$ we obtain $M=(1720 \pm 10 \pm 60)$~MeV and $\Gamma=(280\pm 10 \pm 70)$~MeV, respectively., Comment: 15 pages, 6 figures
