The NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS reports a study of a sample of 4 × 109 tagged π0 mesons from K+ → π+π0(γ), searching for the decay of the π0 to invisible particles. No signal is observed in excess of the expected background fluctuations. An upper limit of 4.4 × 10−9 is set on the branching ratio at 90% confidence level, improving on previous results by a factor of 60. This result can also be interpreted as a model- independent upper limit on the branching ratio for the decay K+ → π+X, where X is a particle escaping detection with mass in the range 0.110–0.155 GeV/c2 and rest lifetime greater than 100 ps. Model-dependent upper limits are obtained assuming X to be an axion-like particle with dominant fermion couplings or a dark scalar mixing with the Standard Model Higgs boson.

Precision measurements of the branching ratios (BRs) for rare kaon decays can provide unique constraints on CKM unitarity and may reveal the existence of new physics. The BRs for two of these decays, $K^+\to\pi^+\nu\bar{\nu}$ and $K_L\to\pi^0\nu\bar{\nu}$, are strongly suppressed in the Standard Model, while their rates can be calculated with very small theoretical uncertainties. These decays are potentially sensitive to high mass scales, and several models of new physics predict large deviations from the Standard Model. Much progress has been made recently in the measurement of the $K\to\pi\nu\bar{\nu}$ BRs. Following upon NA62's successful application of the in-flight technique to measure ${\rm BR}(K^+\to\pi^+\nu\bar{\nu})$, we envision a comprehensive program for the study of the rare decay modes of both $K^+$ and $K_L$ mesons, to be carried out with high-intensity kaon beams from the CERN SPS in multiple phases, including both an experiment to measure ${\rm BR}(K^+\to\pi^+\nu\bar{\nu})$ at the 5% level and an experiment to measure ${\rm BR}(K_L\to\pi^0\nu\bar{\nu})$ at the 20% level. The detectors could also be reconfigured to allow measurements of $K_L$ decays with charged particles, such as $K_L\to\pi^0\ell^+\ell^-$., Comment: Letter of Interest for Snowmass 2021. High Energy Physics - Experiment (hep-ex) ,FOS: Physical sciences ,High Energy Physics::Experiment - Abstract
The results of a search for $^0$ decays to a photon and an invisible massive dark photon at the NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS are reported. From a total of $4.12\times10^8$ tagged $^0$ mesons, no signal is observed. Assuming a kinetic-mixing interaction, limits are set on the dark photon coupling to the ordinary photon as a function of the dark photon mass, improving on previous searches in the mass range 60--110 MeV/$c^2$. The present results are interpreted in terms of an upper limit of the branching ratio of the electro-weak decay $^0 \to \overline$, improving the current limit by more than three orders of magnitude.

The status of the analysis of the data collected in 2016 by the NA62 experiment is reported. About $5\times10^{11}~K^{+}$ decays have been taken to study the $K^+\rightarrow\pi^+\nu\bar{\nu}$ decay. Preliminary results from the $K^+\rightarrow\pi^+\nu\bar{\nu}$ analysis based on about 5% of the 2016 data are summarised in this document. Analysis on exotic physics searches and rare and forbidden decays are also discussed.

The document reports the progress of experiment NA62 to study the rare decay $K^+ \to \pi^+ \nu \bar{\nu}$ at the CERN SPS. The status of the analysis of the data collected by the Collaboration in 2007-2008 to study Lepton Universality in Kaon decays is also given. The implications of the absence of SPS beam in 2012, as currenntly foreseen, are mentioned and the plan to mitigate for this lack of beam is presented. The overall construction schedule is reviewed and the status of the sub-detectors is presented
