We present precise lattice computations for the b-quark mass, the quark mass ratios mb/mc and mb/ms as well as the leptonic B-decay constants. We employ gauge configurations with four dynamical quark flavors, up/down, strange and charm, at three values of the lattice spacing (a ~ 0.06 - 0.09 fm) and for pion masses as low as 210 MeV. Interpolation in the heavy quark mass to the bottom quark point is performed using ratios of physical quantities computed at nearby quark masses exploiting the fact that these ratios are exactly known in the static quark mass limit. Our results are also extrapolated to the physical pion mass and to the continuum limit and read: mb(MSbar, mb) = 4.26(10) GeV, mb/mc = 4.42(8), mb/ms = 51.4(1.4), fBs = 229(5) MeV, fB = 193(6) MeV, fBs/fB = 1.184(25) and (fBs/fB)/(fK/fpi) = 0.997(17)., Version to appear in PRD. We present a lattice QCD determination of the vector and scalar form factors of the semileptonic $K \to \pi \ell \nu$ decay which are relevant for the extraction of the CKM matrix element $|V_{us}|$ from experimental data. Our results are based on the gauge configurations produced by the European Twisted Mass Collaboration with $N_f = 2+1+1$ dynamical fermions, which include in the sea, besides two light mass degenerate quarks, also the strange and the charm quarks. We use data simulated at three different values of the lattice spacing and with pion masses as small as $210$ MeV. Our final result for the vector form factor at zero momentum transfer is $f_+(0) = 0.9709 (46)$, where the uncertainty is both statistical and systematic combined in quadrature. Using the latest experimental value of $f_+(0) |V_{us}|$ from $K_{\ell 3}$ decays, we obtain $|V_{us}| = 0.2230 (11)$, which allows to test the unitarity constraint of the Standard Model below the permille level once the determination of $|V_{ud}|$ from superallowed nuclear $\beta$ decays is adopted. A slight tension with unitarity at the level of $\sim 2$ standard deviations is observed. Moreover we present our results for the semileptonic scalar $f_0(q^2)$ and vector $f_+(q^2)$ form factors in the whole range of values of the squared four-momentum transfer $q^2$ measured in $K_{\ell 3}$ decays, obtaining a very good agreement with the momentum dependence of the experimental data. The simulations are based on a unitary setup for the two light mass-degenerate quarks and on a mixed action approach for the strange and charm quarks. We use data simulated at three different values of the lattice spacing in the range 0.06 - 0.09 fm and at pion masses in the range 210 - 450 MeV. Our main results are: fK+ / fpi+ = 1.184 (16), fK+ = 154.4 (2.0) MeV, which incorporate the leading strong isospin breaking correction due to the up- and down-quark mass difference, and fK = 155.0 (1.9) MeV, fD = 207.4 (3.8) MeV, fDs = 247.2 (4.1) MeV, fDs / fD = 1.192 (22) and (fDs / fD) / (fK / fpi) = 1.003 (14) obtained in the isospin symmetric limit of QCD. Combined with the experimental measurements of the leptonic decay rates of kaon, pion, D- and Ds-mesons our results lead to the following determination of the CKM matrix elements: |Vus| = 0.2269 (29), |Vcd| = 0.2221 (67) and |Vcs| = 1.014 (24). We have used the gauge configurations produced by the European Twisted Mass Collaboration with Nf = 2 dynamical quarks, at four lattice spacings and light meson masses in the range 280-500 MeV. We discuss a lattice QCD computation of the $B$-meson decay constants by the ETM collaboration where suitable ratios allow to reach the bottom quark sector by combining simulations around the charm-quark mass with an exactly known static limit. We discuss CP violation in meson-antimeson mixing in the SM and beyond and derive constraints on the scale of new physics.

We present a lattice QCD determination of the $b$-quark mass and of the $f_{B_s}$ and $f_B$ decay constants performed with $N_f = 2 + 1 + 1$ twisted mass Wilson fermions. We have used simulations at three values of the lattice spacing generated by ETMC with pion masses ranging from 210 to 440 MeV. We present a lattice QCD determination of the b quark mass and of the B and B_s decay constants, performed with N_f=2 twisted mass Wilson fermions, by simulating at four values of the lattice spacing. In order to study the b quark on the lattice, two methods are adopted in the present work, respectively based on suitable ratios with exactly known static limit and on the interpolation between relativistic data, evaluated in the charm mass region, and the static point, obtained by simulating the HQET on the lattice. The two methods provide results in good agreement. For the b quark mass in the MSbar scheme and for the decay constants we obtain m_b(m_b)=4.29(14) GeV, f_B=195(12) MeV, f_Bs=232(10) MeV and f_Bs/f_B=1.19(5). As a byproduct of the analysis we also obtain the results for the f_D and f_Ds decay constants: f_D=212(8) MeV, f_Ds=248(6) MeV and f_Ds/f_D=1.17(5)., Comment: 23 pages, 10 figures, 2 tables. We present lattice results for the vector and scalar form factors of the semileptonic decays D -> ��\ell ��_ell and D -> K \ell ��_\ell in the physical range of values of squared four momentum transfer q^2, obtained with N_f=2 maximally twisted Wilson fermions simulated at three different lattice spacings (a ~ 0.102 fm, 0.086 fm, 0.068 fm) with pion masses as light as 270 MeV and m_��L \gtrsim 4. The form factors are extracted using a double ratios strategy, which allows a good statistical accuracy and is independent of the vector current renormalization constant. The chiral/continuum extrapolation is performed through a simultaneous fit in the three variables (m_��, q^2, a) using HMChPT formulae with additional O(a^2) terms that parametrically account for the lattice spacing dependence. Our results are in very good agreement with the experimental data in the full q^2 range for both D -> ��\ell ��_\ell and D -> K \ell ��_\ell. At zero momentum transfer we obtain f^{D->pi}(0) = 0.65(6)_{stat}(6)_{syst} and f^{D->K}(0) = 0.76(5)_{stat}(5)_{syst}, where the systematic error does not include the effects of quenching the strange and the charm quarks. The recently measured B -> tau nu branching ratio allows to test the Standard Model by probing virtual effects of new heavy particles, such as a charged Higgs boson. The accuracy of the test is currently limited by the experimental error on BR(B -> tau nu) and by the uncertainty on the parameters fB and |Vub|. The redundancy of the Unitarity Triangle fit allows to reduce the error on these parameters and thus to perform a more precise test of the Standard Model. Using the current experimental inputs, we obtain BR(B -> tau nu)_SM = (0.84 +- 0.11)x10^{-4}, to be compared with BR(B -> tau nu)_exp = (1.73 +- 0.34)x10^{-4}. The Standard Model prediction can be modified by New Physics effects in the decay amplitude as well as in the Unitarity Triangle fit. We discuss how to disentangle the two possible contributions in the case of minimal flavour violation at large tan beta and generic loop-mediated New Physics. We present lattice results for the form factors relevant in the K -> pion and D -> pion semileptonic decays, obtained from simulations with two flavors of dynamical twisted-mass fermions and pion masses as light as 260 MeV. For K -> pion decays we discuss the estimates of the main sources of systematic uncertainties, including the quenching of the strange quark, leading to our final result f+(0) = 0.9560 (57) (62). Combined with the latest experimental data, our value of f+(0) implies for the CKM matrix element |Vus| the value 0.2267 (5) (20) consistent with the first-row CKM unitarity. For D -> pion decays the application of Heavy Meson Chiral Perturbation Theory allows to extrapolate our results for both the scalar and the vector form factors at the physical point with quite good accuracy, obtaining a nice agreement with the experimental data. A method to extract B-physics parameters (b-quark mass and fB, fBs decay constants) from currently available lattice data is presented and tested. The approach is based on the idea of constructing appropriate ratios of heavy-light meson masses and decay constants, respectively, possessing a precisely known static limit, and evaluating them at various pairs of heavy quark masses around the charm. Via a smooth interpolation in the heavy quark mass from the easily accessible charm region to the asymptotic point, B-physics parameters are computed with a few percent (statistical + systematic) error using recently produced Nf=2 maximally twisted Wilson fermions data., 23 pages, 8 figures; version to appear in JHEP

The recently measured B -> tau nu branching ratio allows to test the Standard Model by probing virtual effects of new heavy particles, such as a charged Higgs boson. The accuracy of the test is currently limited by the experimental error on BR(B -> tau nu) and by the uncertainty on the parameters fB and |Vub|. The redundancy of the Unitarity Triangle fit allows to reduce the error on these parameters and thus to perform a more precise test of the Standard Model. Using the current experimental inputs, we obtain BR(B -> tau nu)_SM = (0.84 +- 0.11)x10^{-4}, to be compared with BR(B -> tau nu)_exp = (1.73 +- 0.34)x10^{-4}. The Standard Model prediction can be modified by New Physics effects in the decay amplitude as well as in the Unitarity Triangle fit. We discuss how to disentangle the two possible contributions in the case of minimal flavour violation at large tan beta and generic loop-mediated New Physics. We present a lattice QCD calculation of the heavy-light decay constants f_B and f_Bs performed with Nf=2 maximally twisted Wilson fermions, at four values of the lattice spacing. The decay constants have been also computed in the static limit and the results are used to interpolate the observables between the charm and the infinite-mass sectors, thus obtaining the value of the decay constants at the physical b quark mass. Our preliminary results are f_B=191(14) MeV, f_Bs=243(14) MeV, f_Bs/f_B=1.27(5). We present the results of a lattice QCD calculation of the pseudoscalar meson decay constants f_K, f_D and f_Ds, performed with N_f=2 dynamical fermions. The simulation is carried out with the tree-level improved Symanzik gauge action and with the twisted mass fermionic action at maximal twist. With respect to our previous study (0709.4574 [hep-lat]), here we have analysed data at three values of the lattice spacing (a=0.10 fm, 0.09 fm, 0.07 fm) and performed the continuum limit, and we have included at a=0.09 fm data with a lighter quark mass (m_pi = 260 MeV) and a larger volume (L = 2.7 fm), thus having at each lattice spacing L >= 2.4 fm and m_pi*L >= 3.6. Our result for the kaon decay constant is f_K=(157.5 +- 0.8|_{stat.} +- 3.3|_{syst.}) MeV and for the ratio f_K/f_pi=1.205 +- 0.006|_{stat.} +- 0.025|_{syst.}, in good agreement with the other N_f=2 and N_f=2+1 lattice calculations. For the D and D_s meson decay constants we obtain f_D=(205 +- 7|_{stat.} +- 7|_{syst.}) MeV, in good agreement with the CLEO-c experimental measurement and with other recent N_f=2 and N_f=2+1 lattice calculations, and f_{Ds}=(248 +- 3|_{stat.} +- 8|_{syst.}) MeV that, instead, is 2.3 sigma below the CLEO-c/BABAR experimental average, confirming the present tension between lattice calculations and experimental measurements., Talk given for the ETM Collaboration at the 26th International Symposium on Lattice Field Theory, Williamsburg, USA, July 14-19 2008. The physics objectives of SuperB, an asymmetric electron-positron collider with a luminosity above 10^36/cm^2/s are described, together with the conceptual design of a novel low emittance design that achieves this performance with wallplug power comparable to that of the current B Factories, and an upgraded detector capable of doing the physics in the SuperB environment. We present results for the light quark masses obtained from a lattice QCD simulation with N-f = 2 degenerate Wilson dynamical quark flavours. The sea quark masses of our lattice, of spacing a similar or equal to 0.06 fm, are relatively heavy, i.e., they cover the range corresponding to 0.60 less than or similar to M-p/M-V less than or similar to 0.75. After implementing the non-perturbative RI-MOM method to renormalise quark masses, we obtain m(ud)((MS) over bar)(2 GeV)= 4.3 +/- 0.4(-0)(+1.1) MeV, and m(s)((MS) over bar)(2 GeV) = 101 +/- 8(-0)(+25) MeV, which are about 15% larger than they would be if renormalised perturbatively. In addition, we show that the above results are compatible with those obtained in a quenched simulation with a similar lattice.

We calculate a number of observables related to particle-antiparticle mixing in the Littlest Higgs model with T-parity (LHT). The resulting effective Hamiltonian for Delta F=2 transitions agrees with the one of Hubisz et al., but our phenomenological analysis goes far beyond the one of these authors. In particular, we point out that the presence of mirror fermions with new flavour and CP-violating interactions allows to remove the possible Standard Model (SM) discrepancy between the CP asymmetry S_{psi K_S} and large values of |V_ub| and to obtain for the mass difference Delta M_s < (Delta M_s)_SM as suggested by the recent result by the CDF collaboration. We also identify a scenario in which simultaneously significant enhancements of the CP asymmetries S_{phi psi} and A_SL^q relative to the SM are possible, while satisfying all existing constraints, in particular from the B -> X_s gamma decay and A_CP(B -> X_s gamma) that are presented in the LHT model here for the first time. In another scenario the second, non-SM, value for the angle gamma=-(109+-6) from tree level decays, although unlikely, can be made consistent with all existing data with the help of mirror fermions. We present a number of correlations between the observables in question and study the implications of our results for the mass spectrum and the weak mixing matrix of mirror fermions. In the most interesting scenarios, the latter one turns out to have a hierarchical structure that differs significantly from the CKM one., 51 pages, 20 figures, 1 table. We present a preliminary study of the neutral kaon mixing bag parameter BK using two flavors of dynamical Wilson fermions. We determine the matrix element of the relevant DeltaS=2 operator by using both the conventional approach and the so called ``non-subtraction method'', and find that the latter leads to results with smaller uncertainties. After having implemented non-perturbative renormalization, we study the dependence of BK on the see quark mass. We present a calculation of the up, down, strange, and charm quark masses performed within the lattice QCD framework. We use the twisted-mass fermion action and carry out simulations that include in the sea two light mass-degenerate quarks, as well as the strange and charm quarks. In the analysis, we use gauge ensembles simulated at three values of the lattice spacing and with light quarks that correspond to pion masses in the range from 350 MeV to the physical value, while the strange and charm quark masses are tuned approximately to their physical values. We use several quantities to set the scale in order to check for finite lattice spacing effects, and in the continuum limit, we get compatible results. The quark mass renormalization is carried out nonperturbatively using the (modified) Regularization Independent Momentum Subtraction (RI0-MOM) method converted into the MS scheme. For the determination of the quark masses, we use physical observables from both the meson and the baryon sectors, obtaining mud = 3.636(66) ("60���57) MeV and ms = 98.7(2.4) (+4.0���3.2) MeV in the MS(2 GeV) scheme and mc = 1036(17) (+15���8) MeV in the MS(3 GeV) scheme, where the first errors are statistical and the second ones are combinations of systematic errors. For the quark mass ratios, we get ms/mud = 27.17(32) (+56���38) and mc/ms =11.48(12) (+25���19).

We present a precise lattice QCD determination of the b-quark mass, of the B and Bs decay constants and first preliminary results for the B-mesons bag parameter. Simulations are performed with Nf = 2 Wilson twisted mass fermions at four values of the lattice spacing and the results are extrapolated to the continuum limit. Our calculation benefits from the use of improved interpolating operators for the B-mesons and employs the so-called ratio method. The latter allows a controlled interpolation at the b-quark mass between the relativistic data around and above the charm quark mass and the exactly known static limit.

We present lattice results for the vector and scalar form factors of the semileptonic decays D -> \pi \ell \nu_ell and D -> K \ell \nu_\ell in the physical range of values of squared four momentum transfer q^2, obtained with N_f=2 maximally twisted Wilson fermions simulated at three different lattice spacings (a ~ 0.102 fm, 0.086 fm, 0.068 fm) with pion masses as light as 270 MeV and m_\pi L \gtrsim 4. The form factors are extracted using a double ratios strategy, which allows a good statistical accuracy and is independent of the vector current renormalization constant. The chiral/continuum extrapolation is performed through a simultaneous fit in the three variables (m_\pi, q^2, a) using HMChPT formulae with additional O(a^2) terms that parametrically account for the lattice spacing dependence. Our results are in very good agreement with the experimental data in the full q^2 range for both D -> \pi \ell \nu_\ell and D -> K \ell \nu_\ell. At zero momentum transfer we obtain f^{D->pi}(0) = 0.65(6)_{stat}(6)_{syst} and f^{D->K}(0) = 0.76(5)_{stat}(5)_{syst}, where the systematic error does not include the effects of quenching the strange and the charm quarks. We present a new method to evaluate with high precision the isospin breaking effects due to the mass difference between the up and down quarks using lattice QCD. Our proposal is applicable in principle to any hadronic observable which can be computed on the lattice. It is based on the expansion of the path-integral in powers of the small parameter $m_d - m_u$. In this talk we discuss how to apply this method to compute the leading isospin breaking effects for several physical quantities of interest: the kaon masses, the kaon decay constants and the neutron-proton mass splitting., 7 pages, 3 figures. We present a lattice computation of the isospin-breaking corrections to pseudoscalar meson masses using the gauge configurations produced by the European Twisted Mass collaboration with $N_f = 2 + 1 + 1$ dynamical quarks at three values of the lattice spacing ($a \simeq 0.062, 0.082$ and $0.089$ fm) with pion masses in the range $M_\pi \simeq 210 - 450$ MeV. The strange and charm quark masses are tuned at their physical values. We adopt the RM123 method based on the combined expansion of the path integral in powers of the $d$- and $u$-quark mass difference ($\widehat{m}_d - \widehat{m}_u$) and of the electromagnetic coupling $\alpha_{em}$. Within the quenched QED approximation, which neglects the effects of the sea-quark charges, and after the extrapolations to the physical pion mass and to the continuum and infinite volume limits, we provide results for the pion, kaon and (for the first time) charmed-meson mass splittings, for the prescription-dependent parameters $\epsilon_{\pi^0}$, $\epsilon_\gamma(\overline{MS}, 2~\mbox{GeV})$, $\epsilon_{K^0}(\overline{MS}, 2~\mbox{GeV})$, related to the violations of the Dashen's theorem, and for the light quark mass difference $(\widehat{m}_d - \widehat{m}_u)(\overline{MS}, 2~\mbox{GeV})$., Comment: 47 pages, 20 figures, 4 tables; comments on QED and QCD splitting prescriptions added; version to appear in PRD
