We present results on the nucleon axial, scalar and tensor charges computed within lattice Quantum Chromodynamics. We use three ensembles of gauge configurations generated with physical values of the pion mass to compute these quantities to high accuracy avoiding the need of uncontrolled chiral extrapolations. We determine the values for the axial, scalar and tensor charges for each quark flavor. We include all contributions from valence and sea quarks by using improved methods to compute the disconnected quark loops. For the nucleon axial charge we find $g_A= 1.286(23)$ in agreement with the experimental value. In addition, we extract the nucleon $\sigma$-terms and find $\sigma_{\pi N}=41.6(3.8)$ MeV as well as the strangeness content of the nucleon obtaining for the y-parameter $y =0.0740(59)$.

We determine the nucleon axial, scalar and tensor charges within lattice Quantum Chromodynamics including all contributions from valence and sea quarks. We analyze three gauge ensembles simulated within the twisted mass formulation at approximately physical value of the pion mass. Two of these ensembles are simulated with two dynamical light quarks and lattice spacing $a=0.094$~fm and the third with $a=0.08$~fm includes in addition the strange and charm quarks in the sea. After comparing the results among these three ensembles, we quote as final values our most accurate analysis using the latter ensemble. For the nucleon isovector axial charge we find $1.286(23)$ in agreement with the experimental value. We provide the flavor decomposition of the intrinsic spin $\frac{1}{2}����^q$ carried by quarks in the nucleon obtaining for the up, down, strange and charm quarks $\frac{1}{2}����^{u}=0.431(8)$, $\frac{1}{2}����^{d}=-0.212(8)$, $\frac{1}{2}����^{s}=-0.023(4)$ and $\frac{1}{2}����^{c}=-0.005(2)$, respectively. The corresponding values of the tensor and scalar charges for each quark flavor are also evaluated providing valuable input for experimental searches for beyond the standard model physics. In addition, we extract the nucleon $��$-terms and find for the light quark content $��_{��N}=41.6(3.8)$~MeV and for the strange $��_{s}=45.6(6.2)$~MeV. We present results on the nucleon axial and induced pseudoscalar form factors using an ensemble of two degenerate twisted mass clover-improved fermions with mass yielding a pion mass of $m_{\pi} = 130 MeV$. We evaluate the isovector and the isoscalar, as well as the strange and the charm axial form factors. The disconnected contributions are evaluated using recently developed methods that include deflation of the lower eigenstates, allowing us to extract the isoscalar, strange, and charm axial form factors. We find that the disconnected quark loop contributions are nonzero and particularly large for the induced pseudoscalar form factor.

Physical review / D 95(9), 094515(2017). doi:10.1103/PhysRevD.95.094515, We present physics results from simulations of QCD using $N _f$ = 2 dynamical Wilson twisted mass fermions at the physical value of the pion mass. These simulations are enabled by the addition of the clover term to the twisted mass quark action. We show evidence that compared to previous simulations without this term, the pion mass splitting due to isospin breaking is almost completely eliminated. Using this new action, we compute the masses and decay constants of pseudoscalar mesons involving the dynamical up and down as well as valence strange and charm quarks at one value of the lattice spacing, a ≈ 0.09 fm. Further, we determine renormalized quark masses as well as their scale-independent ratios, in excellent agreement with other lattice determinations in the continuum limit. In the baryon sector, we show that the nucleon mass is compatible with its physical value and that the masses of the Δ baryons do not show any sign of isospin breaking. Finally, we compute the electron, muon and tau lepton anomalous magnetic moments and show the results to be consistent with extrapolations of older ETMC data to the continuum and physical pion mass limits. We present the results of the first lattice QCD calculation of the $K \to ��$ matrix elements of the chromomagnetic operator $O_{CM} = g\, \bar s\, ��_{����} G_{����} d$, which appears in the effective Hamiltonian describing $��S = 1$ transitions in and beyond the Standard Model. Having dimension 5, the chromomagnetic operator is characterized by a rich pattern of mixing with operators of equal and lower dimensionality. The multiplicative renormalization factor as well as the mixing coefficients with the operators of equal dimension have been computed at one loop in perturbation theory. The power divergent coefficients controlling the mixing with operators of lower dimension have been determined non-perturbatively, by imposing suitable subtraction conditions. The numerical simulations have been carried out using the gauge field configurations produced by the European Twisted Mass Collaboration with $N_f = 2+1+1$ dynamical quarks at three values of the lattice spacing. Our result for the B-parameter of the chromomagnetic operator at the physical pion and kaon point is $B_{CMO}^{K ��} = 0.273 ~ (70)$, while in the SU(3) chiral limit we obtain $B_{CMO} = 0.072 ~ (22)$. Our findings are significantly smaller than the model-dependent estimate $B_{CMO} \sim 1 - 4$, currently used in phenomenological analyses, and improve the uncertainty on this important phenomenological quantity., 20 pages, 4 figures, 2 table. In this work we calculate the corrections to the amputated Green's functions of four-fermion operators, in 1-loop lattice perturbation theory. One of the novel aspects of our calculations is that they are carried out to second order in the lattice spacing, O(a(2)). We employ the Wilson/clover action for massless fermions (also applicable for the twisted mass action in the chiral limit) and a family of Symanzik improved actions for gluons. Our calculations have been carried out in a general covariant gauge. Results have been obtained for several popular choices of values for the Symanzik coefficients (Plaquette, Tree-level Symanzik, Iwasaki, TILW and DBW2 action). While our Green's function calculations regard any pointlike four-fermion operators which do not mix with lower dimension ones, we pay particular attention to Delta F = 2 operators, both parity conserving and parity violating (F stands for flavor: S, C, B). By appropriately projecting those bare Green's functions we compute the perturbative renormalization constants for a complete basis of four-fermion operators and we study their mixing pattern. For some of the actions considered here, even O(a(0)) results did not exist in the literature to date. Stylianou (unpublished).]) are essential ingredients for minimizing the lattice artifacts which are present in nonperturbative evaluations of renormalization constants with the RI' - MOM method. Our perturbative results, for the matrix elements of Delta F = 2 operators and for the corresponding renormalization matrices, depend on a large number of parameters: coupling constant, number of colors, lattice spacing, external momentum, clover parameter, Symanzik coefficients, gauge parameter. To make these results most easily accessible to the reader, we have included them in the distribution package of this paper, as an ASCII file named: 4-fermi. m; the file is best perused as Mathematica input. We present an unquenched N(f) = 2 lattice computation of the B(K) parameter which controls K(0) - (K) over bar (0) oscillations. A partially quenched setup is employed with two maximally twisted dynamical (sea) light Wilson quarks, and valence quarks of both the maximally twisted and the Osterwalder-Seiler variety. Suitable combinations of these two kinds of valence quarks lead to a lattice definition of the B(K) parameter which is both multiplicatively renormalizable and O(a) improved. Employing the nonperturbative RI-MOM scheme, in the continuum limit and at the physical value of the pion mass we get B(K)(RGI) = 0.729 +/- 0.030, a number well in line with the existing quenched and unquenched determinations.

We present simulations of QCD using Nf=2 dynamical Wilson twisted mass lattice QCD with physical value of the pion mass and at one value of the lattice spacing. Such simulations at ~0.09 fm became possible by adding the clover term to the action. While O(a) improvement is still guaranteed by Wilson twisted mass fermions at maximal twist, the introduction of the clover term reduces cutoff effects related to isospin symmetry breaking. We give results for a set of phenomenologically interesting observables like pseudo-scalar masses and decay constants, quark masses and the anomalous magnetic moments of leptons. We mostly find remarkably good agreement with phenomenology, even though we cannot take the continuum and thermodynamic limits.

The renormalization factors of local quark-bilinear operators are computed nonperturbatively for ${N}_{f}=3$ flavors of stout link nonperturbative clover (SLiNC) fermions, with emphasis on the various procedures for the chiral and continuum extrapolations. The simulations are performed at a lattice spacing $a=0.074\text{}\text{}\mathrm{fm}$, and for five values of the pion mass in the range of 290–465 MeV, allowing a safe and stable chiral extrapolation. Emphasis is given in the subtraction of the well-known pion pole which affects the renormalization factor of the pseudoscalar current. We also compute the inverse propagator and the Green’s functions of the local bilinears to one loop in perturbation theory. We investigate lattice artifacts by computing them perturbatively to second order as well as to all orders in the lattice spacing. The renormalization conditions are defined in the ${\mathrm{RI}}^{\prime }\text{-}\mathrm{MOM}$ scheme, for both the perturbative and nonperturbative results. The renormalization factors, obtained at different values of the renormalization scale, are translated to the $\overline{\mathrm{MS}}$ scheme and are evolved perturbatively to 2 GeV. Any residual dependence on the initial renormalization scale is eliminated by an extrapolation to the continuum limit. We also study the various sources of systematic errors. Particular care is taken in correcting the nonperturbative estimates by subtracting lattice artifacts computed to one-loop perturbation theory using the same action. We test two different methods, by subtracting either the $\mathcal{O}\left({g}^{2}{a}^{2}\right)$ contributions, or the complete (all orders in $a$) one-loop lattice artifacts.

We present results on the nucleon scalar, axial and tensor charges, as well as, on the first moments of the unpolarized, polarized and transversity parton distributions using $N_f=2$ and $N_f=2+1+1$ twisted mass fermions. These include an ensemble that yields the physical value of the ratio of the nucleon to the pion mass. Renormalization factors relate the observables obtained on the lattice to their measured counterparts in the continuum in a suitable renormalization scheme. They have to be computed very precisely which requires a careful treatment of lattice artifacts. We consider the effect of strong external electromagnetic fields on thermodynamic observables in QCD, through lattice simulations with 1+1+1 flavors of staggered quarks at physical quark masses. Continuum extrapolated results are presented for the light quark condensates and for their tensor polarizations, as functions of the temperature and the magnetic field. We find the light condensates to undergo inverse magnetic catalysis in the transition region, in a manner that the transition temperature decreases with growing magnetic field. We also compare the results to other approaches and lattice simulations. We present results on the nucleon form factors, momentum fraction and helicity moment for $N_f=2$ and $N_f=2+1+1$ twisted mass fermions for a number of lattice volumes and lattice spacings. First results for a new $N_f=2$ ensemble at the physical pion mass are also included. A widely used approach is the nonperturbative Rome-Southampton method. It requires, however, a careful treatment of lattice artifacts. In this paper we investigate a method to suppress these artifacts by subtracting one-loop contributions to renormalization factors calculated in lattice perturbation theory. We compare results obtained from a complete one-loop subtraction with those calculated for a subtraction of contributions proportional to the square of the lattice spacing., Comment: 20 pages, 11 figures, 4 tables

We present results on the axial and the electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon, as well as, on the first moments of the nucleon generalized parton distributions using maximally twisted mass fermions. We analyze two N_f=2+1+1 ensembles having pion masses of 210 MeV and 354 MeV at two values of the lattice spacing. The lattice scale is determined using the nucleon mass computed on a total of 18 N_f=2+1+1 ensembles generated at three values of the lattice spacing, $a$. The renormalization constants are evaluated non-perturbatively with a perturbative subtraction of ${\cal O}(a^2)$-terms. The moments of the generalized parton distributions are given in the $\bar{\rm MS}$ scheme at a scale of $ \mu=2$ GeV. We compare with recent results obtained using different discretization schemes. A review of recent nucleon structure calculations within lattice QCD is presented. The nucleon excited states, the axial charge, the isovector momentum fraction and helicity distribution are discussed, assessing the methods applied for their study, including approaches to evaluate the disconnected contributions. We present results on the electroweak form factors and on the lower moments of parton distributions of the nucleon, within lattice QCD using two dynamical flavors of degenerate twisted mass fermions. Results are obtained on lattices with three different values of the lattice spacings, namely a=0.089 fm, a=0.070 fm and a=0.056 fm, allowing the investigation of cut-off effects. The volume dependence is examined by comparing results on two lattices of spatial length L=2.1 fm and L=2.8 fm. The simulations span pion masses in the range of 260-470 MeV. We study a systematic improvement of perturbation theory for gauge fields on the lattice [hep-lat/0606001]; the improvement entails resumming, to all orders in the coupling constant, a dominant subclass of tadpole diagrams. This method, originally proposed for the Wilson gluon action, is extended here to encompass all possible gluon actions made of closed Wilson loops; any fermion action can be employed as well. The effect of resummation is to replace various parameters in the action (coupling constant, Symanzik and clover coefficient) by ``dressed'' values; the latter are solutions to certain coupled integral equations, which are easy to solve numerically. Some positive features of this method are: a) It is gauge invariant, b) it can be systematically applied to improve (to all orders) results obtained at any given order in perturbation theory, c) it does indeed absorb in the dressed parameters the bulk of tadpole contributions. Two different applications are presented: The additive renormalization of fermion masses, and the multiplicative renormalization Z_V (Z_A) of the vector (axial) current. We present results on the nucleon scalar, axial, and tensor charges as well as on the momentum fraction, and the helicity and transversity moments. The pion momentum fraction is also presented. The computation of these key observables is carried out using lattice QCD simulations at a physical value of the pion mass. The evaluation is based on gauge configurations generated with two degenerate sea quarks of twisted mass fermions with a clover term. We investigate excited states contributions with the nucleon quantum numbers by analyzing three sink-source time separations. We find that, for the scalar charge, excited states contribute significantly and to a less degree to the nucleon momentum fraction and helicity moment. Our result for the nucleon axial charge agrees with the experimental value. Furthermore, we predict a value of 1.027(62) in the MS¯¯¯¯¯ scheme at 2 GeV for the isovector nucleon tensor charge directly at the physical point. The pion momentum fraction is found to be ⟨x⟩π±u−d=0.214(15)(+12−9) in the MS¯¯¯¯¯ at 2 GeV.

The electromagnetic form factors of the proton and the neutron are computed within lattice QCD using simulations of maximally twisted mass fermions with masses fixed to their physical values. We analyse two new ensembles of $N_f=2$ and $N_f=2+1+1$ and use several values of the sink-source time separation in the range of 1.0 fm to 1.6 fm to ensure ground state identification. The light quark disconnected contributions are evaluated to very high accuracy enabling us to include them in the determination of the proton and neutron form factors, the electric and magnetic radii, and the magnetic moments. We find that disconnected contributions are non-negligible and contribute up to 15% for the case of the neutron electric charge radius.

We present a calculation of the up, down, strange, and charm quark masses performed within the lattice QCD framework. We use the twisted-mass fermion action and carry out simulations that include in the sea two light mass-degenerate quarks, as well as the strange and charm quarks. In the analysis, we use gauge ensembles simulated at three values of the lattice spacing and with light quarks that correspond to pion masses in the range from 350 MeV to the physical value, while the strange and charm quark masses are tuned approximately to their physical values. We use several quantities to set the scale in order to check for finite lattice spacing effects, and in the continuum limit, we get compatible results. The quark mass renormalization is carried out nonperturbatively using the (modified) Regularization Independent Momentum Subtraction (RI0-MOM) method converted into the MS scheme. For the determination of the quark masses, we use physical observables from both the meson and the baryon sectors, obtaining mud = 3.636(66) ("60���57) MeV and ms = 98.7(2.4) (+4.0���3.2) MeV in the MS(2 GeV) scheme and mc = 1036(17) (+15���8) MeV in the MS(3 GeV) scheme, where the first errors are statistical and the second ones are combinations of systematic errors. For the quark mass ratios, we get ms/mud = 27.17(32) (+56���38) and mc/ms =11.48(12) (+25���19).

The role of the strange quarks on the low-energy interactions of the proton can be probed through the strange electromagnetic form factors. Knowledge of these form factors provides essential input for parity-violating processes and contributes to the understanding of the sea quark dynamics. We determine the strange electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon within the lattice formulation of Quantum Chromodynamics using simulations that include light, strange and charm quarks in the sea all tuned to their physical mass values. We employ state-of-the-art techniques to accurately extract the form factors for values of the momentum transfer square up to 0.8~GeV$^2$. We find that both the electric and magnetic form factors are statistically non-zero. We obtain for the strange magnetic moment $\mu^s=-0.017(4)$, the strange magnetic radius $\langle r^2_M \rangle^s=-0.015(9)$~fm$^2$, and the strange charge radius $\langle r^2_E \rangle^s=-0.0048(6)$~fm$^2$.

We study matrix elements of the "chromomagnetic" operator on the lattice. This operator is contained in the strangeness-changing effective Hamiltonian which describes electroweak effects in the Standard Model and beyond. Having dimension 5, the chromomagnetic operator is characterized by a rich pattern of mixing with other operators of equal and lower dimensionality, including also non gauge invariant quantities it is thus quite a challenge to extract from lattice simulations a clear signal for the hadronic matrix elements of this operator. We compute all relevant mixing coefficients to one loop in lattice perturbation theory this necessitates calculating both 2-point (quark-antiquark) and 3-point (gluon-quark-antiquark) Green's functions at nonzero quark masses. We use the twisted mass lattice formulation, with Symanzik improved gluon action. The Chromomagnetic operator (CMO) mixes with a large number of operators under renormalization. We identify which operators can mix with the CMO, at the quantum level. Even in dimensional regularization (DR), which has the simplest mixing pattern, the CMO mixes with a total of 9 other operators, forming a basis of dimension-five, Lorentz scalar operators with the same flavor content as the CMO. Among them, there are also gauge noninvariant operators; these are BRST invariant and vanish by the equations of motion, as required by renormalization theory. On the other hand using a lattice regularization further operators with $d \leq 5$ will mix; choosing the lattice action in a manner as to preserve certain discrete symmetries, a minimul set of 3 additional operators (all with $d, 7 pages, 1 figure, 3 tables, LATTICE2014 proceedings

We present the results of the first lattice QCD calculation of the $K \to \pi$ matrix elements of the chromomagnetic operator $O_{CM} = g\, \bar s\, \sigma_{\mu\nu} G_{\mu\nu} d$, which appears in the effective Hamiltonian describing $\Delta S = 1$ transitions in and beyond the Standard Model. Having dimension 5, the chromomagnetic operator is characterized by a rich pattern of mixing with operators of equal and lower dimensionality. The multiplicative renormalization factor as well as the mixing coefficients with the operators of equal dimension have been computed at one loop in perturbation theory. The power divergent coefficients controlling the mixing with operators of lower dimension have been determined non-perturbatively, by imposing suitable subtraction conditions. The numerical simulations have been carried out using the gauge field configurations produced by the European Twisted Mass Collaboration with $N_f = 2+1+1$ dynamical quarks at three values of the lattice spacing. Our result for the B-parameter of the chromomagnetic operator at the physical pion and kaon point is $B_{CMO}^{K \pi} = 0.273 ~ (70)$, while in the SU(3) chiral limit we obtain $B_{CMO} = 0.072 ~ (22)$. Our findings are significantly smaller than the model-dependent estimate $B_{CMO} \sim 1 - 4$, currently used in phenomenological analyses, and improve the uncertainty on this important phenomenological quantity., Comment: 20 pages, 4 figures, 2 table. We present our study of the renormalization of the chromomagnetic operator, ${\mathcal{O}}_{\mathrm{CM}}$, which appears in the effective Hamiltonian describing $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}S=1$ transitions in and beyond the Standard Model. We have computed, perturbatively to one loop, the relevant Green's functions with two (quark-quark) and three (quark-quark-gluon) external fields, at nonzero quark masses, using both the lattice and dimensional regularizations. The perturbative computation on the lattice is carried out using the maximally twisted-mass action for the fermions, while for the gluons we employed the Symanzik improved gauge action for different sets of values of the Symanzik coefficients. We have identified all the operators which can possibly mix with ${\mathcal{O}}_{\mathrm{CM}}$, including lower-dimensional and nongauge invariant operators, and we have calculated those elements of the mixing matrix which are relevant for the renormalization of ${\mathcal{O}}_{\mathrm{CM}}$. We have also performed numerical lattice calculations to determine nonperturbatively the mixings of the chromomagnetic operator with lower-dimensional operators, through proper renormalization conditions. For the first time, the $1/{a}^{2}$-divergent mixing of the chromomagnetic operator with the scalar density has been determined nonperturbatively with high precision. Moreover, the $1/a$-divergent mixing with the pseudoscalar density, due to the breaking of parity within the twisted-mass regularization of QCD, has been calculated nonperturbatively and found to be smaller than its one-loop perturbative estimate. The QCD simulations have been carried out using the gauge configurations produced by the European Twisted Mass Collaboration with ${N}_{f}=2+1+1$ dynamical quarks, which include in the sea, besides two light mass degenerate quarks, also the strange and charm quarks with masses close to their physical values.

We present results for the renormalization constants of bilinear quark operators obtained by using the tree-level Symanzik improved gauge action and the Nf=2 twisted mass fermion action at maximal twist, which guarantees automatic O(a)-improvement. Our results are also relevant for the corresponding standard (un-twisted) Wilson fermionic action since the two actions only differ, in the massless limit, by a chiral rotation of the quark fields. The scale-independent renormalization constants ZV, ZA and the ratio ZP/ZS have been computed using the RI-MOM approach, as well as other alternative methods. For ZA and ZP/ZS, the latter are based on both standard twisted mass and Osterwalder-Seiler fermions, while for ZV a Ward Identity has been used. The quark field renormalization constant Zq and the scale dependent renormalization constants ZS, ZP and ZT are determined in the RI-MOM scheme. Leading discretization effects of O(g^2 a^2), evaluated in one-loop perturbation theory, are explicitly subtracted from the RI-MOM estimates., Comment: 31 pages, 11 figures

We calculate corrections to the fermion propagator and to the Green's functions of all fermion bilinear operators of the form $\bar\Psi \Gamma \Psi$, to one-loop in perturbation theory. We employ the Wilson/clover action for fermions and a family of Symanzik improved actions for gluons. The novel aspect of our calculations is that they are carried out to second order in the lattice spacing, $O(a^2)$. Consequently, they have addressed a number of new issues, most notably the appearance of loop integrands with strong IR divergences (convergent only beyond 6 dimensions). Such integrands are not present in $O(a^1)$ improvement calculations; there, IR divergent terms are seen to have the same structure as in the $O(a^0)$ case, by virtue of parity under integration, and they can thus be handled by well-known techniques. We explain how to correctly extract the full $O(a^2)$ dependence; in fact, our method is generalizable to any order in $a$. The $O(a^2)$ corrections to the quark propagator and Green's functions computed in this paper are useful to improve the nonperturbative RI-MOM determination of renormalization constants for quark bilinear operators. Our results depend on a large number of parameters: coupling constant, number of colors, lattice spacing, external momentum, clover parameter, Symanzik coefficients, gauge parameter.
