Abstract

A comprehensive review of physics at an e+e- Linear Collider in the energy range of sqrt{s}=92 GeV--3 TeV is presented in view of recent and expected LHC results, experiments from low energy as well as astroparticle physics.The report focuses in particular on Higgs boson, Top quark and electroweak precision physics, but also discusses several models of beyond the Standard Model physics such as Supersymmetry, little Higgs models and extra gauge bosons. Abstract

This Report summarizes the results of the activities in 2012 and the first half of 2013 of the LHC Higgs Cross Section Working Group. The main goal of the working group was to present the state of the art of Higgs Physics at the LHC, integrating all new results that have appeared in the last few years. This report follows the first working group report Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 1. Inclusive Observables (CERN-2011-002) and the second working group report Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 2. Differential Distributions (CERN-2012-002). After the discovery of a Higgs boson at the LHC in mid-2012 this report focuses on refined prediction of Standard Model (SM) Higgs phenomenology around the experimentally observed value of 125-126 GeV, refined predictions for heavy SM-like Higgs bosons as well as predictions in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model and first steps to go beyond these models. Abstract

We chart the theoretical basis of radiative decays of the Higgs boson, $H \to \gamma\gamma$ and $Z\gamma$, for measuring the spin of the Higgs particle. Abstract

There are many possibilities for new physics beyond the Standard Model that feature non-standard Higgs sectors. These may introduce new sources of CP violation, and there may be mixing between multiple Higgs bosons or other new scalar bosons. Alternatively, the Higgs may be a composite state, or there may even be no Higgs at all. These non-standard Higgs scenarios have important implications for collider physics as well as for cosmology, and understanding their phenomenology is essential for a full comprehension of electroweak symmetry breaking. This report discusses the most relevant theories which go beyond the Standard Model and its minimal, CP-conserving supersymmetric extension: two-Higgs-doublet models and minimal supersymmetric models with CP violation, supersymmetric models with an extra singlet, models with extra gauge groups or Higgs triplets, Little Higgs models, models in extra dimensions, and models with technicolour or other new strong dynamics. For each of these scenarios, this report presents an introduction to the phenomenology, followed by contributions on more detailed theoretical aspects and studies of possible experimental signatures at the LHC and other colliders., Report of the CPNSH workshop, May 2004 - Dec 2005, 542 pages. Abstract

Physics at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the International e+e- Linear Collider (ILC) will be complementary in many respects, as has been demonstrated at previous generations of hadron and lepton colliders. This report addresses the possible interplay between the LHC and ILC in testing the Standard Model and in discovering and determining the origin of new physics. Mutual benefits for the physics programme at both machines can occur both at the level of a combined interpretation of Hadron Collider and Linear Collider data and at the level of combined analyses of the data, where results obtained at one machine can directly influence the way analyses are carried out at the other machine. Topics under study comprise the physics of weak and strong electroweak symmetry breaking, supersymmetric models, new gauge theories, models with extra dimensions, and electroweak and QCD precision physics. The status of the work that has been carried out within the LHC / LC Study Group so far is summarised in this report. Abstract

The Higgs boson H of the Standard Model can be searched for in the channels p pbar / pp -> t tbar H + X at the Tevatron and the LHC. The cross sections for these processes and the final-state distributions of the Higgs boson and top quarks are presented at next-to-leading order QCD. To calculate these QCD corrections, a special calculational technique for pentagon diagrams has been developed and the dipole subtraction formalism has been adopted for massive particles. The impact of the corrections on the total cross sections is characterized by K factors, the ratios of the cross sections in next-to-leading order over leading order QCD. At the central scale mu_0 = (2 m_t + M_H)/2 the K factors are found to be slightly below unity for the Tevatron (K \sim 0.8) and slightly above unity for the LHC (K \sim 1.2). Including the corrections significantly stabilizes the theoretical predictions for total cross sections and for the distributions in rapidity and transverse momentum of the Higgs boson and top quarks., 50 pages, LaTeX, 17 figures

The physics potential is briefly summarized for an e+e- linear collider operating at center-of-mass energies up to \sqrt{s} = 1 TeV and delivering integrated luminosities up to \int L = 0.5 ab^(-1) in one to two years. This machine will allow us to perform precision studies of the top quark and the electroweak gauge bosons at the per-mille level. It will be an ideal instrument to investigate the properties of the Higgs boson and to establish essential elements of the Higgs mechanism as the fundamental mechanism for breaking the electroweak symmetries. In the area beyond the Standard Model, new particles and their interactions can be discovered and explored comprehensively. In supersymmetric theories, the mechanism of the symmetry breaking can be investigated experimentally and the underlying unified theory can be reconstructed. Extending earlier investigations, we analyze the quasi-elastic scattering of strongly interacting electroweak bosons at high-energy e+-e- colliders. The three processes e+e- -> bar-nu nu W+W-, bar-nu nu ZZ, and e-e- -> W-W- are examined at a c.m. energy of 1 TeV for high-luminosity runs. Abstract

We describe the physics potential of $e^+e^-$ linear colliders in this report. These machines are planned to operate in the first phase at a center-of --mass energy of 500 GeV, before being scaled up to about 1 TeV. In the second phase of the operation, a final energy of about 2 TeV is expected. The machines will allow us to perform precision tests of the heavy particles in the Standard Model, the top quark and the electroweak bosons. They are ideal facilities for exploring the properties of Higgs particles, in particular in the intermediate mass range. New vector bosons and novel matter particles in extended gauge theories can be searched for and studied thoroughly. The machines provide unique opportunities for the discovery of particles in supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model, the spectrum of Higgs particles, the supersymmetric partners of the electroweak gauge and Higgs bosons, and of the matter particles. High precision analyses of their properties and interactions will allow for extrapolations to energy scales close to the Planck scale where gravity becomes significant. In alternative scenarios, like compositeness models, novel matter particles and interactions can be discovered and investigated in the energy range above the existing colliders up to the TeV scale. Whatever scenario is realized in Nature, the discovery potential of $e^+e^-$ linear colliders and the high-precision with which the properties of particles and their interactions can be analysed, define an exciting physics programme complementary to hadron machines., 103 pages, Latex

We present the cross section for pair production of scalar leptoquarks $LQ$ in $p\bar{p}$ collisions, $p+\bar{p} \to LQ + \bar{LQ} + X$, at the Fermilab Tevatron in next-to-leading order QCD. Including the higher-order corrections stabilizes the theoretical prediction and increases the size of the cross section for renormalization/factorization scales close to the mass of the leptoquarks. We summarize the dominant decay modes of the neutral and charged Higgs bosons in the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model. While two--body decays are in general dominating, the branching ratios for three--body decays of the heavy scalar, pseudoscalar and charged Higgs bosons can be large below the thresholds if top quarks, $W/Z$ bosons or heavy scalar bosons are involved. Inelastic photoproduction of $J/\psi$ particles at high energies is one of the processes to determine the gluon distribution in the nucleon. We have calculated the QCD radiative corrections to the color-singlet model of this reaction. They are large at moderate photon energies, but decrease with increasing energies. Leptons, quarks and gauge bosons are assumed to be pointlike particles in the Standard Model. Stringent bounds on the radii of quarks and leptons and their weak anomalous magnetic moments can be derived from the high-precision measurements at LEP and SLC. Non--strongly interacting supersymmetric particles -- sleptons, charginos, neutral\-inos, and charged Higgs bosons -- are difficult to detect at the Large Hadron Collider. We therefore examine the possibility of producing particles of this type in virtual $\gamma \gamma$ collisions at the LHC. Since photons can be emitted from protons which do not break up in the radiation process, very clean events can be generated, compensating to some extent for the small event numbers.
