A Chern-Simons matrix model was proposed by Dorey, Tong, and Turner to describe non-Abelian fractional quantum Hall effect. In this paper we study the Hilbert space of the Chern-Simons matrix model from a geometric quantization point of view. We show that the Hilbert space of the Chern-Simons matrix model can be identified with the space of sections of a line bundle on the quiver variety associated to a framed Jordan quiver. We compute the character of the Hilbert space using localization technique. Using a natural isomorphism between vortex moduli space and a Beilinson-Drinfeld Schubert variety, we prove that the ground states wave functions are flat sections of a bundle of conformal blocks associated to a WZW model. In particular they solve a Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equation. We show that there exists a natural action of the deformed double current algebra (DDCA) on the Hilbert space, moreover the action is irreducible. We define and study the conformal limit of the Chern-Simons matrix model. We show that the conformal limit of the Hilbert space is an irreducible integrable module of $\widehat{\mathfrak{gl}}(n)$ with level identified with the matrix model level. Moreover, we prove that $\widehat{\mathfrak{gl}}(n)$ generators can be obtained from scaling limits of matrix model operators, which settles a conjecture of Dorey-Tong-Turner. The key to the proof is the construction of a Yangian $Y(\mathfrak{gl}_n)$ action on the conformal limit of the Hilbert space, which we expect to be equivalent to the $Y(\mathfrak{gl}_n)$ action on the integrable $\widehat{\mathfrak{gl}}(n)$ modules constructed by Uglov. We also characterize eigenvectors and eigenvalues of the matrix model Hilbert space with respect to a maximal commutative subalgebra of Yangian., Comment: 80+9 pages. Comments are welcome

Using the gauge-gravity duality, we investigate the fermionic correlation function in the D(-1)-D3 brane system which describes the instantonic plasma in holography. In this system, the charge of the D(-1) brane as the D-instanton gives the gluon condensate. To simplify the holographic setup, we first reduce briefly the ten-dimensional supergravity background produced by D(-1)-D3-branes to an equivalently five-dimensional background. Then using the standard method for computing the Green function in the AdS/CFT dictionary, we derive the equations for the fermionic correlation functions and solve them numerically with the infalling boundary condition. Our numerical results illustrate that the fermionic correlation function as spectral function includes two branches of the dispersion curves whose behavior is very close to the results obtained from the method of hard thermal loop. And the effective mass generated by the medium effect of fermion splits into two values due to the spin-dependent interactions induced by instantons. We study the out-of-time-order correlators (OTOC) of Skyrmion as baryon in the D0-D4/D8 model which is expected to be holographically dual to QCD with instantons as D0-branes or with a non-zero theta angle. Baryon states are identified to the excitations of the Skyrmion which are described by a holographic quantum mechanical system in this model. By employing the definition of OTOC in quantum mechanics, we derive the formulas and demonstrate explicitly the numerical calculations of the OTOC. Our calculation illustrates the quantum OTOC with imaginary Lyapunov coefficient indicates the possibly metastable baryonic status in the presence of the instanton while the classical OTOC can not, thus it reveals the instantonic or theta-dependent features of QCD are dominated basically by its quantum properties. Furthermore, the OTOC also implies the baryonic phase becomes really chaotic with real Lyapunov exponent if the instanton charge increases sufficiently which agrees with the unstable baryon spectrum presented in this model. We develop a general framework for studying the spin alignment $\rho_{00}$ for flavorless vector mesons by using the gauge/gravity duality. Focusing on the dilepton production through vector meson decay, we derive the relation between production rates at each spin channel and meson's spectral function, which can be evaluated by holographic models for a strongly coupled system. As examples, we study $\rho_{00}$ for $J/\psi$ and $\phi$ mesons, induced by the relative motion to a thermal background, within the soft-wall model. We show that $\rho_{00}$ in the helicity frame for $J/\psi$ and $\phi$ mesons have positive and negative deviations from 1/3 at $T=150$ MeV, respectively, which consequently leads to different properties for their global spin alignments., Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures

We study the mass spectra and spin alignment of vector meson $J/\psi$ in a thermal magnetized background using a generalized theoretical framework based on gauge/gravity duality. Utilizing a soft wall model for the QGP background and a massive vector field for the $J/\psi$ meson, we delve into the meson's spectral function and spin parameters $(\lambda_{\theta},\, \lambda_\varphi,\,\lambda_{\theta\varphi})$ for different cases, assessing their response to variations in magnetic field strength, momentum, and temperature. We initially examine scenarios where a meson's momentum aligns parallel to the magnetic field in helicity frame. Our results reveal a magnetic field-induced positive $\lambda_\theta^\text{H}$ for low meson momentum, transitioning to negative with increased momentum. As a comparison, we also study the case of momentum perpendicular to the magnetic field and find the direction of magnetic field does not affect the qualitative behavior for the $eB$-dependence of $\lambda_\theta^\text{H}$. Moreover, we apply our model to real heavy-ion collisions for three different spin quantization directions. Further comparisons with experimental data show qualitative agreement for spin parameters $\lambda_{\theta}$ and $\lambda_\varphi$ in the helicity and Collins-Soper frames., Comment: 27 pages, 8 figures

In this work, we investigate the worldvolume fermion on the flavor brane in the D0-D4/D8 model which is holographically equivalent to the four-dimensional QCD with instantons, or equivalently with a theta angle. The action for the worldvolume fermion is obtained by the T-duality rules in string theory and we accordingly derive its effectively five-dimensional, canonical four-dimensional forms by using the systematical dimensional reduction and decomposition of spinor. Afterwards, we employ the AdS/CFT dictionary in order to evaluate the two-point correlation function as the spectral function for the worldvolume fermion and interpret the fermion as baryon by analyzing its quantum number with the baryon vertex in holography. In this sense, the interacted action involving the worldvolume fermion and gauge field on the flavor brane are finally derived in holography which describes the various interaction of meson and baryon with instantons in large-N limit. As the out-of-time-order correlator (OTOC) is a measure of quantum chaos and an important observable in the context of AdS/CFT, we investigate the OTOC of holographic Skyrmion which is described by an analytical quantum mechanical system from the D4/D8 model (as the holographic QCD). By employing the OTOC defined in quantum mechanics, we derive the formulas and demonstrate the numerical calculations of the OTOC explicitly which is also available for the general case with central force field. Our numerical evaluation illustrates the behaviors of the OTOC with large $N_{c}$, however the expected exponential growth of OTOC is not obtained. Besides, we also take a look at the classical limit of the OTOC and analyze the associated behaviors. At the end of this work, we additionally study the OTOC with three-dimensional Coulomb potential, as another example for the central force field, to support our analyses of the general properties of quantum OTOC., Comment: 30 pages, 8 figures

In this paper we study the algebra of quantum observables of the Chern-Simons matrix model which was originally proposed by Susskind and Polychronakos to describe electrons in fractional quantum Hall effects. We establish the commutation relations for its generators and study the large $N$ limit of its representation. We show that the large $N$ limit algebra is isomorphic to the uniform in $N$ algebra studied by Costello, which is isomorphic to the deformed double current algebra studied by Guay. Under appropriate scaling limit, we show that the large $N$ limit algebra degenerates to a Lie algebra which admits a surjective map to the affine Lie algebra of $\mathfrak{u}(p)$. This leads to a complete proof of the large $N$ emergence of the $\mathfrak{u}(p)$ current algebra as proposed by Dorey, Tong and Turner. This also suggests a rigorous derivation of edge excitation of a fractional quantum Hall droplet., Comment: 45+15 pages. Comments are welcome

By using the gauge-gravity duality, we investigate the correlation function of flavored fermion in the \mathrm{D}_{p}/\mathrm{D}_{p+4} model as top-down approaches of holographic QCD for p=4,3. The bulk spinor, as the source of the flavored fermion in QCD, is identified to the worldvolume fermion on the flavor \mathrm{D}_{p+4}-branes and the standard form of its action can be therefore obtained by the T-duality rules in string theory. Keeping this in hand, we afterwards generalize the prescription for two-point correlation function in AdS/CFT dictionary into general D-brane backgrounds and apply it to the case of p=4,3, i.e. the D4/D8 and D3/D7 approach respectively. Resultantly, our numerical calculation with the bubble background always displays discrete peaks in the correlation functions which imply the bound states created by the flavored fermions as the confinement in QCD. With the black brane background, the onshell condition illustrated by the correlation function covers basically the dispersion curves of fermion obtained by the hard thermal loop approximation in the hot medium. Finally, we interpret the flavored fermions in the bubble background as baryons by taking into account a baryon vertex, then find the two-point correlation function is able to fit the lowest baryon spectrum. We introduce a notion of quadratic duality for chiral algebras. This can be viewed as a chiral version of the usual quadratic duality for quadratic associative algebras. We study the relationship between this duality notion and the Maurer-Cartan equations for chiral algebras, which turns out to be parallel to the associative algebra case. In this work, we first derive the corrections to the instanton configuration of the flavored gauge field in the D4-D8 model with generic flavor numbers. Then, as the instanton configuration on the D8-branes represents equivalently baryon in this model, keeping our corrections in hand, we systemically study the spectrum of baryon, heavy-light baryon or heavy-light meson and find it is possible to fit the experimental data with the meson data in this model. Besides, we briefly outline how to include the interaction of glueball and heavy-light meson or baryon with our corrections, evaluate numerically the decay rate of the heavy-light meson or baryonic matter involving glueball. Since it is possible to fit all the spectra with same choice of the parameters to the experimental data, we believe our corrections improve the framework of D4-D8 model and the corrected instanton configuration is also useful to investigate other properties of baryon in holography., Comment: 34 pages, 2 figures

We derive residue formulas for the regularized integrals (introduced by Li-Zhou) on configuration spaces of elliptic curves. Based on these formulas, we prove that the regularized integrals satisfy holomorphic anomaly equations, providing a mathematical formulation of the so-called contact term singularities. According to the gauge-gravity duality, we systematically study the Schwinger effect and electric instability with anisotropy in a top-down holographic approach. The anisotropic black brane and bubble (soliton) background in IIB supergravity are employed and the dual theories in these backgrounds are expected to be anisotropic theory at finite temperature and anisotropic theory with confinement respectively. Then performing the potential analysis, we find due to the anisotropy, the potential barrier behaves oppositely with parallel and perpendicular electric fields, and this behavior agrees with the previous study about the quark potential with anisotropy in this system. Afterwards, we evaluate the pair production rate by solving the equation of motion for a fundamental string numerically which reveals the consistent behavior with the potential analysis. Furthermore, the probe D7-brane as flavor is introduced into the bulk in order to investigate the electric instability. The vacuum decay rate can be obtained by evaluating the imaginary part of the D7-brane action which again agrees with our potential analysis. Solving the associated constraint of gauge field strength on the flavor brane, we finally obtain the V-A curve displaying the distinct behavior of the conductivity in parallel and perpendicular direction which is in agreement with some bottom-up and phenomenologically holographic approaches in anisotropic fluid. Based on the gauge-gravity duality, we study the three-dimensional QCD ($\mathrm{QCD}_{3}$) and Chern-Simons theory by constructing the anisotropic black D3-brane solution in IIB supergravity. The deformed bulk geometry is obtained by performing a double Wick rotation and dimension reduction which becomes an anisotropic bubble configuration exhibiting confinement in the dual theory. And its anisotropy also reduces to a Chern-Simons term due to the presence of the dissolved D7-branes or the axion field in bulk. Using the bubble geometry, we investigate the the ground-state energy density, quark potential, entanglement entropy and the baryon vertex according to the standard methods in the AdS/CFT dictionary. Our calculation shows that the ground-state energy illustrates degenerate to the Chern-Simons coupling coefficient which is in agreement with the properties of the gauge Chern-Simons theory. The behavior of the quark tension, entanglement entropy and the embedding of the baryon vertex further implies strong anisotropy may destroy the confinement. Afterwards, we additionally introduce various D7-branes as flavor and Chern-Simons branes to include the fundamental matter and effective Chern-Simons level in the dual theory. By counting their orientation, we finally obtain the associated topological phase in the dual theory and the critical mass for the phase transition. Interestingly the formula of the critical mass reveals the flavor symmetry, which may relate to the chiral symmetry, would be restored if the anisotropy increases greatly. As all of the analysis is consistent with characteristics of quark-gluon plasma, we therefore believe our framework provides a remarkable way to understand the features of Chern-Simons theory, the strong coupled nuclear matter and its deconfinement condition with anisotropy., Comment: 41pages, 11 figures, 3 tables, fix several typos and add more comments in this version

Trace map on deformation quantized algebra leads to the algebraic index theorem. In this paper, we investigate a two-dimensional chiral analogue of the algebraic index theorem via the theory of chiral algebras developed by Beilinson and Drinfeld. We construct a trace map on the elliptic chiral homology of the free beta gamma-bc system using the BV quantization framework. As an example, we compute the trace evaluated on the unit constant chiral chain and obtain the formal Witten genus in the Lie algebra cohomology. By constructing the configuration of D3-branes with D(-1)-branes as D-instantons, we study the three-dimensional Yang-Mills Chern-Simons theory in holography. Due to the presence of the D-instantons, the D7-branes with discrepant embedding functions are able to be introduced in order to include the fundamental fermions (as flavors) and the Chern-Simons term (at very low energy) in the dual theory. The vacuum structure at zero temperature is studied in the soliton background and it illustrates the topological phase transition in the presence of instantons. Moreover, since the confinement/deconfinement phase transition could be holographically identified as the Hawking-Page transition in the bulk, we accordingly calculate the critical temperature of the deconfinement phase transition by collecting the bulk onshell action as the thermodynamical free energy. On the other hand, we evaluate the difference of the entanglement entropy in slab configuration by using the RT formula since the confinement may also be characterized by the entanglement entropy. Altogether we find the behavior of the critical temperature is in qualitative agreement with the behavior of the critical length determined by the entanglement entropy which implies the entanglement entropy could indeed be a character of the confinement in our setup and the D3-D(-1) system would be a remarkable approach to study the three-dimensional gauge theory., Comment: 25 pages, 10 figures, fix a typo in the last section in this version

We introduce a simple procedure to integrate differential forms with arbitrary holomorphic poles on Riemann surfaces. It gives rise to an intrinsic regularization of such singular integrals in terms of the underlying conformal geometry. Applied to products of Riemann surfaces, this regularization scheme establishes an analytic theory for integrals over configuration spaces, including Feynman graph integrals arising from two dimensional chiral quantum field theories. Specializing to elliptic curves, we show such regularized graph integrals are almost-holomorphic modular forms that geometrically provide modular completions of the corresponding ordered $A$-cycle integrals. This leads to a simple geometric proof of the mixed-weight quasi-modularity of ordered A-cycle integrals, as well as novel combinatorial formulae for all the components of different weights., Comment: 66 pages, comments are welcome

Using the gauge-gravity duality, we study the holographic Schwinger effect by performing the potential analysis on the confining D3- and D4-brane background with D-instantons then evaluate the pair production/decay rate by taking account into a fundamental string and a single flavor brane respectively. The two confining backgrounds with D-instantons are obtained from the black D(-1)-D3 and D0-D4 solution with a double Wick rotation. The total potential and pair production/decay rate in the Schwinger effect are calculated numerically by examining the NG action of a fundamental string and the DBI action of a single flavor brane all in the presence of an electric field. In both backgrounds our numerical calculation agrees with the critical electric field evaluated from the DBI action and shows the potential barrier is increased by the presence of the D-instantons, thus the production/decay rate is suppressed by the D-instantons. Our interpretation is that particles in the dual field theory could acquire an effective mass through the Chern-Simons interaction or the theta term due to the presence of D-instantons so that the pair production/decay rate in Schwinger effect is suppressed since it behaves as $e^{-m^{2}}$. Our conclusion is in agreement with the previous results obtained in the deconfined D(-1)-D3 background at zero temperature limit and from the approach of the flavor brane in the D0-D4 background. In this sense, this work may be also remarkable to study the phase transition in Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory and observable effects by the theta angle in QCD., Comment: 2 tables,9 figures,23 pages

In this paper we propose a general framework to study the quantum geometry of $\sigma$-models when they are effectively localized to small quantum fluctuations around constant maps. Such effective theories have surprising exact descriptions at all loops in terms of target geometry and can be rigorously formulated. We illustrate how to turn the physics idea of exact semi-classical approximation into a geometric set-up in this framework, using Gauss-Manin connection. As an application, we carry out this program in details by the example of topological quantum mechanics, and explain how to implement the idea of exact semi-classical approximation into a proof of the algebraic index theorem. The proof resembles much of the physics derivation of Atiyah-Singer index theorem and clarifies the geometric face of many other mathematical constructions., Comment: 43 pages. Comments are welcome

We explain how dispersionless integrable hierarchy in 2d topological field theory arises from the Kodaira-Spencer gravity (BCOV theory). Cosmological CPT violation will rotate the polarized direction of CMB photons, convert partial CMB E mode into B mode and vice versa. It will generate non-zero EB, TB spectra and change the EE, BB, TE spectra. This phenomenon gives us a way to detect the CPT-violation signature from CMB observations, and also provides a new mechanism to produce B mode polarization. In this paper, we perform a global analysis on tensor-to-scalar ratio $r$ and polarization rotation angles based on current CMB datasets with both low $\ell$ (Planck, BICEP2/Keck Array) and high $\ell$ (POLARBEAR, SPTpol, ACTPol). Benefited from the high precision of CMB data, we obtain the isotropic rotation angle $\bar{\alpha} = -0.01^\circ \pm 0.37^\circ $ at 68% C.L., the variance of the anisotropic rotation angles $C^{\alpha}(0)<0.0032\,\mathrm{rad}^2$, the scale invariant power spectrum $D^{\alpha\alpha}_{\ell \in [2, 350]}<4.71\times 10^{-5} \,\mathrm{rad}^2$ and $r<0.057$ at 95% C.L.. Our result shows that with the polarization rotation effect, the 95% upper limit on $r$ gets tightened by 17%., Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures

The theta-dependent gauge theories can be studied by using holographic duality through string theory on certain spacetimes. Via this correspondence we consider a stack of $N_{0}$ dynamical D0-branes as D-instantons in the background sourced by $N_{c}$ coincident non-extreme black D4-branes. According to the gauge-gravity duality this D0-D4 brane system corresponds to Yang-Mills theory with a theta angle at finite temperature. We solve the IIA supergravity action by taking account into a sufficiently small backreaction of the D-instantons and obtain an analytical solution for our D0-D4-brane configuration. Then the dual theory in the large $N_{c}$ limit can be holographically investigated with the gravity solution. In the dual field theory, we find the coupling constant exhibits the property of asymptotic freedom as it is expected in QCD. The contribution of the theta-dependence to the free energy gets suppressed at high temperature which is basically consistent with the calculation by using the Yang-Mills instanton. The topological susceptibility in the large $N_{c}$ limit vanishes and this behavior remarkably agrees with the implications from the simulation results at finite temperature. Besides we finally find a geometrical interpretation of the theta-dependence in this holographic system., Comment: 18 pages, 1 table

We describe the coupling of holomorphic Chern-Simons theory at large N with Kodaira-Spencer gravity. We explain a new anomaly cancellation mechanism at all loops in perturbation theory for open-closed topological B-model. At one loop this anomaly cancellation is analogous to the Green-Schwarz mechanism. As an application, we introduce a type I version of Kodaira-Spencer theory in complex dimensions 3 and 5. In complex dimension 5, we show that it can only be coupled consistently at the quantum level to holomorphic Chern-Simons theory with gauge group SO(32). This is analogous to the Green-Schwarz mechanism for the physical type I string. This coupled system is conjectured to be a supersymmetric localization of type I string theory. We identify and investigate two classes of non-Hermitian systems, i.e., one resulting from Lorentz-symmetry violation (LSV) and the other from a complex mass (CM) with Lorentz invariance, from the perspective of quantum field theory. The mechanisms to break, and approaches to restore, the bulk-boundary correspondence in these two types of non-Hermitian systems are clarified. The non-Hermitian system with LSV shows a non-Hermitian skin effect, and its topological phase can be characterized by mapping it to the Hermitian system via a non-compact $U(1)$ gauge transformation. In contrast, there exists no non-Hermitian skin effect for the non-Hermitian system with CM. Moreover, the conventional bulk-boundary correspondence holds in this (CM) system. We also consider a general non-Hermitian system in the presence of both LSV and CM, and we generalize its bulk-boundary correspondence., Comment: 14 pages, 4 figures

Let X be a non-compact Calabi-Yau manifold and f be a holomorphic function on X with compact critical locus. We introduce the notion of f-twisted Sobolev spaces for the pair (X,f) and prove the corresponding Hodge-to-de Rham degeneration property via L2-Hodge theoretical methods when f satisfies an asymptotic condition of strongly ellipticity. This leads to a Frobenius manifold via the Barannikov-Kontsevich construction, unifying the Landau-Ginzburg and Calabi-Yau geometry. Our construction can be viewed as a generalization of K.Saito's higher residue and primitive form theory for isolated singularities. We holographically investigate the decay of heavy-flavoured baryonic hadron involving glueball by using the Witten-Sakai-Sugimoto model. Since baryon in this model is recognized as the D4-brane wrapped on $S^{4}$ and the glueball field is identified as the bulk gravitational fluctuations, the interaction of the bulk graviton and the baryon brane could be naturally interpreted as glueball-baryon interaction through the holography which is nothing but the close-open string interaction in string theory. In order to take account into the heavy flavour, an extra pair of heavy-flavoured branes separated from the other flavour branes with a heavy-light open string is embedded into the bulk. Due to the finite separation of the flavour branes, the heavy-light string creates massive multiplets which could be identified as the heavy-light meson fields in this model. As the baryon brane on the other hand could be equivalently described by the instanton configuration on the flavour brane, we solve the equations of motion for the heavy-light fields with the Belavin-Polyakov-Schwarz-Tyupkin (BPST) instanton solution for the $N_{f}=2$ flavoured gauge fields. Then with the solutions, we evaluate the soliton mass by deriving the flavoured onshell action in strongly coupling limit and heavy quark limit. After the collectivization and quantization, the quantum mechanical system for glueball and heavy-flavoured baryon is obtained in which the effective Hamiltonian is time-dependent. Finally we use the standard technique for the time-dependent quantum mechanical system to analyze the decay of heavy-flavoured baryon involving glueball and we find one of the decay process might correspond to the decay of baryonic B-meson involving the glueball candidate $f_{0}\left(1710\right)$. We construct the D4/D8 brane configuration in the Witten-Sakai-Sugimoto model by introducing a pair of heavy flavour brane with a heavy-light open string. The multiplets created by the heavy-light string acquire mass due to the finite separation of the heavy and light flavour branes thus they could be identified as the heavy-light meson fields in this model. On the other hand the glueball field is identified as the gravitational fluctuations carried by the close string in the bulk, so this model is able to describe the interaction of glueball and heavy-light meson through the open-close string interaction in gauge-gravity duality. We explicitly derive the effective action for the various glueballs and heavy-light mesons then numerically evaluate the associated coupling constants. Afterwards the decay widths of various glueballs to the lowest heavy-light meson, which is identified as $D^{0}$ meson, are calculated by using our effective action. Motivated by string field theory, we explore various algebraic aspects of higher spin theory and Vasiliev equation in terms of homotopy algebras. We present a systematic study of unfolded formulation developed for the higher spin equation in terms of the Maurer-Cartan equation associated to differential forms valued in L-infinity algebras. The elimination of auxiliary variables of Vasiliev equation is analyzed through homological perturbation theory. This leads to a closed combinatorial graph formula for all the vertices of higher spin equations in the unfolded formulation. We also discover a topological quantum mechanics model whose correlation functions give deformed higher spin vertices at first order., Comment: 46 pages. Comments are welcome

As an essential part of China’s Gravitational Waves Program, the Ali CMB Polarization Telescope (AliCPT) is a ground-based experiment aiming at the Primordial Gravitational Waves (PGWs) by measuring B-mode polarization of Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB). First proposed in 2014 and currently in fast construction phase, AliCPT is China’s first CMB project that plans for commissioning in 2019. Led by the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the project is a worldwide collaboration of more than fifteen universities and research institutes. Ali CMB Project is briefly introduced.

Three-fold quasi-homogeneous isolated rational singularity is argued to define a four dimensional $\mathcal{N}=2$ SCFT. The Seiberg-Witten geometry is built on the mini-versal deformation of the singularity. We argue in this paper that the corresponding Seiberg-Witten differential is given by the Gelfand-Leray form of K. Saito's primitive form. With the construction of the Witten-Sakai-Sugimoto model in the D0-D4 background, we systematically investigate the holographic baryon spectrum in the case of three flavors. The background geometry in this model is holographically dual to $U\left(N_{c}\right)$ Yang-Mills theory in large $N_{c}$ limit involving an excited state with a nonzero $\theta$ angle or glue condensate $\left\langle \mathrm{Tr}\mathcal{F}\wedge\mathcal{F}\right\rangle =8\pi^{2}N_{c}\tilde{\kappa}$, which is proportional to the charge density of the smeared D0-branes through a parameter $b$ or $\tilde{\kappa}$. The classical solution of baryon in this model can be modified by embedding the Belavin-Polyakov-Schwarz-Tyupkin (BPST) instanton and we carry out the quantization of the collective modes with this solution. Then we extend the analysis to include the heavy flavor and find that the heavy meson is always bound in the form of the zero mode of the flavor instanton in strong coupling limit. The mass spectrum of heavy-light baryons in the situation with single- and double-heavy baryon is derived by solving the eigen equation of the quantized collective Hamiltonian. Afterwards we obtain that the constraint of stable baryon states has to be $1

Instanton is known to exist in Euclidean spacetime only. Their role in real time dynamics is usually understood as tunneling effect by Wick rotation. We illustrate other effects of instanton in holography by investigating 5d effective gravity theory of the black D3-brane-D-instanton system. The supergravity description of the D3-brane-D-instanton system is dual to the super Yang-Mills theory with topological excitations of the vacuum. We obtain Euclidean correlators in the presence of instantons by analyzing of the fluctuations of the bulk fields in the 5d effective theory. Furthermore, analytic continuation of Euclidean correlators leads to retarded correlators, which characterize real time dynamics. We find interestingly real time fluctuations of topological charge can destroy instantons and the lifetime of instanton is set by temperature. This implies instanton contribution to "real time dynamics" is suppressed at high temperature, which is analogous to classic field theory results that instanton contribution to "thermodynamics" is suppressed at high temperature., Comment: 29 pages, 3 figures. The Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) Polarization plays an important role in current cosmological studies. CMB B-mode polarization is the most effective probe to primordial gravitational waves (PGWs) and a test of the inflation as well as other theories of the early universe such as bouncing and cyclic universe. So far, major ground-based CMB polarization experiments are located in the southern hemisphere.Recently, China has launched the Ali CMB Polarization Telescope (AliCPT) in Tibetan Plateau to measure CMB B mode polarization and detect the PGWs in northern hemisphere. AliCPT include two stages, the first one is to build a telescope at the 5250m site (AliCPT-1) and the second one is to have a more sensitive telescope at a higher altitude of about 6000m (AliCPT-2). In this paper, we report the atmospherical conditions, sky coverage and the current infrastructure associated with AliCPT. We analyzed the reanalysis data from MERRA-2 together with radiosonde data from the Ali Meteorological Service and found that the amount of water vapor has a heavy seasonal variation and October to March is the suitable observation time. We also found 95/150 GHz to be feasible for AliCPT-1 and higher frequencies to be possible for AliCPT-2. Then we analyzed the observable sky and the target fields, and showed that Ali provides us a unique opportunity to observe CMB with less foreground contamination in the northern hemisphere and is complementary to the existed southern CMB experiments. Together with the developed infrastructure, we point out that Ali opens a new window for CMB observation and will be one of the major sites in the world along with Antarctic and Atacama., Comment: 9 pages, 10 figures

We extend the holographic analysis of light-baryon spectrum in \cite{key-50} to the case involving the heavy flavors. With the construction of the Witten-Sakai-Sugimoto model in the D0-D4 background, we use the mechanism proposed in \cite{key-59,key-60,key-61} by including two light and one heavy flavor branes, to describe the heavy-light baryons as heavy mesons bound to a flavor instanton. The background geometry of this model corresponds to an excited state in the dual field theory with nonzero glue condensate $\left\langle \mathrm{Tr}\mathcal{F}\wedge\mathcal{F}\right\rangle =8\pi^{2}N_{c}\tilde{\kappa}$, or equivalently a $\theta$ angle, which is proportional to the number density of the D0-brane charge. At strongly coupled limit, this model shows that the heavy meson is always bound in the form of the zero mode of the flavor instanton in the fundamental representation. We systematically study the quantization for the effective Lagrangian of heavy-light baryons by employing the soliton picture, and derive the mass spectrum of heavy-light baryons in the situation with single- and double-heavy baryon. We find the difference in the mass spectrum becomes smaller if the density of D0-brane charge increases and the constraint of stable states of the heavy-light baryons is $1

Using the Witten-Sakai-Sugimoto model in the D0-D4 background, we holographically compute the vacuum decay rate of the Schwinger effect in this model. Our calculation contains the influence of the D0-brane density which could be identified as the $\theta$ angle or chiral potential in QCD. Under the strong electromagnetic fields, the instability appears due to the creation of quark-antiquark pairs and the associated decay rate can be obtained by evaluating the imaginary part of the effective Euler-Heisenberg action which is identified as the action of the probe brane with a constant electromagnetic field. In the bubble D0-D4 configuration, we find the decay rate decreases when the $\theta$ angle increases since the vacuum becomes heavier in the present of the glue condensate in this system. And the decay rate matches to the result in the black D0-D4 configuration at zero temperature limit according to our calculations. In this sense, the Hawking-Page transition of this model could be consistently interpreted as the confined/deconfined phase transition. Additionally there is another instability from the D0-brane itself in this system and we suggest that this instability reflects to the vacuum decay triggered by the $\theta$ angle as it is known in the $\theta$-dependent QCD., Comment: 22 pages, 10 figures, add more references to this version

We study the effective Batalin-Vilkovisky quantization theory for chiral deformation of two dimensional conformal field theories. We establish an exact correspondence between renormalized quantum master equations for effective functionals and Maurer-Cartan equations for chiral vertex operators. The generating functions are proven to have modular property with mild holomorphic anomaly. As an application, we construct an exact solution of quantum B-model (BCOV theory) in complex one dimension that solves the higher genus mirror symmetry conjecture on elliptic curves., Comment: 49 pages. As an extension to our previous work, we study the transport properties of the Witten-Sakai-Sugimoto model in the black D4-brane background with smeared D0-branes (D0-D4/D8 system). Because of the presence of the D0-branes, in the bubble configuration this model is holographically dual to 4d QCD or Yang-Mills theory with a Chern-Simons term. And the number density of the D0-branes corresponds to the coupling constant ($\theta$ angle) of the Chern-Simons term in the dual field theory. In this paper, we accordingly focus on small number density of the D0-branes to study the sound mode in the black D0-D4 brane system since the coupling of the Chern-Simons term should be quite weak in QCD. Then we derive its 5d effective theory and analytically compute the speed of sound and the sound wave attenuation in the approach of Gauge/Gravity duality. Our result shows the speed of sound and the sound wave attenuation is modified by the presence of the D0-branes. Thus they depend on the $\theta$ angle or chiral potential in this holographic description., Comment: 17 pages

Twisted supergravity is supergravity in a background where the bosonic ghost field takes a non-zero value. This is the supergravity counterpart of the familiar concept of twisting supersymmetric field theories. In this paper, we give conjectural descriptions of type IIA and IIB supergravity in $10$ dimensions. Our conjectural descriptions are in terms of the closed-string field theories associated to certain topological string theories, and we conjecture that these topological string theories are twists of the physical string theories. For type IIB, the results of arXiv:1505.6703 show that our candidate twisted supergravity theory admits a unique quantization in perturbation theory. This is despite the fact that the theories, like the original physical theories, are non-renormalizable. Although we do not prove our conjectures, we amass considerable evidence. We find that our candidates for the twisted supergravity theories contain the residual supersymmetry one would expect. We also prove (using heavily a result of Baulieu arXiv:1009.3893) the open string version of our conjecture: the theory living on a brane in the topological string theory is a twist of the maximally supersymmetric gauge theory living on the brane in the physical string theory., Comment: 72 pages

We construct the gravitational solution of the Witten-Sakai-Sugimoto model by introducing a magnetic field on the flavor brane. With taking into account their backreaction, we re-solve the type IIA supergravity in the presence of the magnetic field. Our calculation shows the gravitational solutions are magnetic-dependent and analytic both in the bubble (confined) and black brane (deconfined) case. We study the dual field theory at the leading order in the ratio of the number of flavors and colors, also in the Veneziano limit. Some physical properties related to the hadronic physics in an external magnetic field are discussed by using our confined backreaction solution holographically. We also investigate the thermodynamics and holographic renormalization of this model in both phases by our solution. Since the backreaction of the magnetic field is considered in our gravitational solution, it allows us to study the Hawking-Page transition with flavors and colors of this model in the presence of the magnetic field. Finally we therefore obtain the holographic phase diagram with the contributions from the flavors and the magnetic field. Our holographic phase diagram is in agreement with lattice QCD result qualitatively, which thus can be interpreted as the inhibition of confinement or chirally broken symmetry by the magnetic field., Comment: 38 pages, 3 figures; upgrade some reference and change some footnotes

This is an extensive work to our previous paper \cite{key-08} studied on the D0-D4/D8 holographic system. We compute the three-body force for baryons with the D0-D4/D8 matrix model derived in \cite{key-08} with considering the non-zero QCD vacuum. We obtain the three-body force at short distances but modified by the appearance of the smeared D0-branes i.e. considering the effects from the non-trivial QCD vacuum. We firstly test our matrix model in the case of 't Hooft instanton and then in two more realistic case: (1) three-neutrons with averaged spins and (2) proton-proton-neutron (or proton-neutron-proton). The three-body potential vanishes in the former case while in two latter cases it is positive i.e. repulsive and makes sense only if the constraint for stable baryonic state is satisfied. We require all the baryons in our computation aligned on a line. These may indicate that the cases in dense states of neutrons such as in neutron stars, Helium-3 or Tritium nucleus all with the non-trivial QCD vacuum., Comment: 24 pages

Studying the Witten-Sakai-Sugimoto model with type IIA string theory, we find the glueball-baryon interaction is predicted in this model. The glueball is identified as the 11D gravitational waves or graviton described by the M5-brane supergravity solution. Employing the relation of M-theory and type IIA string theory, glueball is also 10D gravitational perturbations which are the excited modes by close strings in the bulk of this model. On the other hand, baryon is identified as a D4-brane wrapped on $S^{4}$ which is named as baryon vertex, so the glueball-baryon interaction is nothing but the close string/baryon vertex interaction in this model. Since the baryon vertex could be equivalently treated as the instanton configurations on the flavor brane, we identify the glueball-baryon interaction as "graviton-instanton" interaction in order to describe it quantitatively by the quantum mechanical system for the collective modes of baryons. So the effective Hamiltonian can be obtained by considering the gravitational perturbations in the flavor brane action. With this Hamiltonian, the amplitudes and the selection rules of the glueball-baryon interaction can be analytically calculated in the strong coupling limit. We show our calculations explicitly in two characteristic situations which are "scalar and tensor glueball interacting with baryons". Into a geometric setting, we import the physical interpretation of index theorems via semi-classical analysis in topological quantum field theory. We develop a direct relationship between Fedosov's deformation quantization of a symplectic manifold X and the BV quantization of a one-dimensional sigma model with target X. This model is a quantum field theory of AKSZ type and is quantized rigorously using Costello's homotopic theory of effective renormalization. We show that Fedosov's Abelian connections on the Weyl bundle produce solutions to the effective quantum master equation. Moreover, BV integration produces a natural trace map on the deformation quantized algebra. This formulation allows us to exploit a (rigorous) localization argument in quantum field theory to deduce the algebraic index theorem via semi-classical analysis, i.e., one-loop Feynman diagram computations., Comment: V2: Significant re-write, 51 pages, 9 figures

We study on the spectrum and short-distance two-body force of holographic baryons by the matrix model, which is derived from Sakai-Sugimoto model in D0-D4 background (D0-D4/D8 system). The matrix model is derived by using the standard technique in string theory and it can describe multi-baryon system. We re-derive the action of the matrix model from open string theory on the wrapped baryon vertex, which is embedded in the D0- D4/D8 system. The matrix model offers a more systematic approach to the dynamics of the baryons at short distances. In our system, we find that the matrix model describe stable baryonic states only if $\zeta=U_{Q_{0}}^{3}/U_{KK}^{3}<2$, where $U_{Q_{0}}^{3}$ is related to the number density of smeared D0-branes. This result in our paper is exactly the same as some previous presented results studied on this system as \cite{key-24 Baryons in D0-D4}. We also compute the baryon spectrum ($k=1$ case) and short-distance two-body force of baryons ($k=2$ case). The baryon spectrum is modified and could be able to fit the experimental data if we choose suitable value for $\zeta$. And the short-distance two-body force of baryons is also modified by the appearance of smeared D0-branes from the original Sakai-Sugimoto model. If $\zeta>2$, we find that the baryon spectrum would be totally complex and an attractive force will appear in the short-distance interaction of baryons, which may consistently correspond to the existence of unstable baryonic states., Comment: 19 pages

This is the first in a series of papers which analyze the problem of quantizing the theory coupling Kodaira-Spencer gravity (or BCOV theory) on Calabi-Yau manifolds using the formalism for perturbative QFT developed by the first author. In this paper, we focus on flat space $\mathbb{C}^d$ for $d$ odd. We prove that there exists a unique quantization of the theory coupling BCOV theory and holomorphic Chern-Simons theory with gauge group the supergroup $GL(N \mid N)$. We deduce a canonically defined quantization of BCOV theory on its own. We also discuss some conjectural links between BCOV theory in various dimensions and twists of physical theories: in complex dimension $3$ we conjecture a relationship to twists of $(1,0)$ supersymmetric theories and in complex dimension $5$ to a twist of type IIB supergravity., Comment: 105 pages

Quantum chromodynamics is notoriously difficult to solve at nonzero baryon density, and most models or effective theories of dense quark or nuclear matter are restricted to a particular density regime and/or a particular form of matter. Here we study dense (and mostly cold) matter within the holographic Sakai-Sugimoto model, aiming at a strong-coupling framework in the wide density range between nuclear saturation density and ultra-high quark matter densities. The model contains only three parameters, and we ask whether it fulfills two basic requirements of real-world cold and dense matter, a first-order onset of nuclear matter and a chiral phase transition at high density to quark matter. Such a model would be extremely useful for astrophysical applications because it would provide a single equation of state for all densities relevant in a compact star. Our calculations are based on two approximations for baryonic matter, firstly an instanton gas and secondly a homogeneous ansatz for the non-abelian gauge fields on the flavor branes of the model. While the instanton gas shows chiral restoration at high densities but an unrealistic second-order baryon onset, the homogeneous ansatz behaves exactly the other way around.
