The article offers the views of the author regarding quality of higher education in India. The author mentions that for the attainment of autonomy by colleges it is important for faculty members to have academic and research achievements. The article provides a historical background of autonomous colleges in India. The methods of analyzing a hypothesis of autonomous college with the help of 100 colleges in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2017 is offered.
