[spa] En el artículo se examina el contenido de seis obras de introducción a la lingüística de Jesús Tuson i Valls (Valencia, 1939-Barcelona, 2017). Son obras que en algunos casos se titulan 'introducción a la lingüística', en otros 'introducción al estudio del lenguaje'. Las publicaciones cubren un período de un cuarto de siglo, pues aparecieron en 1980, 1984, 1994a, 1994b, 1999, 2011. Se caracterizan por la concisión y un acierto didáctico sin parangón entre las de su género. Están escritas en catalán, salvo las dos primeras, de 1980 y 1984. Y asumen una orientación sincrética que concilia elementos estructuralistas, generativistas y sociolingüísticos. Con ellas constituye un canon de la lingüística, que promueve con acierto y variedad expositiva en tres períodos. Son los períodos de manuales introductorios (1980, 1984), ensayos breves (1994a, 1994b) y ensayos extensos (1999, 2011)., [eng] The paper examines the content of six works of introduction to the linguistics by Jesus Tuson i Valls (Valencia, 1939-Barcelona, 2017). They are works that in some cases are entitled 'introduction to linguistics', in others 'introduction to the study of language'. The publications cover a period of a quarter of a century, since they appeared in 1980, 1984, 1994a, 1994b, 1999, 2011. They are characterized by conciseness and a didactic success unparalleled among those of their genre. They are written in Catalan, except for the first two, from 1980 and 1984. And they assume a syncretic orientation that reconciles structuralist, generativist and sociolinguistic elements. With them, it constitutes a canon of linguistics, which successfully promotes and exhibits in three periods. These are the periods of introductory manuals (1980, 1984), short essays (1994a, 1994b) and extended essays (1999, 2011).

El artículo trata de los relatos autobiográficos de lingüistas estadounidenses sobre su vida profesional. Considera las aportaciones de los editores Thomas A. Sebeok (1966), Boyd H. Davis y Raymond K. O'Cain (1980) y E. F. Konrad Koerner (1991, 1998). Forman un amplio repertorio de 90 escritos biográficos (Sebeok) y de 43 autobiografías (Davis, O'Cain y Koerner). La lingüística estadounidense tiene un carácter pionero en éste ámbito y muestra en sus relatos el extraordinario dinamismo de sus autores. El artículo considera la autobiografía como una fuente documental de la corriente narrativa de la historiografía, que permite estudiar la trayectoria vital de los autores y trazar el panorama de la lingüística contemporánea. Entre otros lingüistas, el artículo comenta la figura de Dwight Bolinger como un epítome multifacético y brillante de la lingüística concebida en primera persona del plural. Las voces de estos lingüistas buscan con relatos el sentido de sus vidas y desmienten la fugacidad de la memoria colectiva., The article deals with the autobiographical accounts of American linguists on their professional lives. Consider the contributions of the publishers Thomas A. Sebeok (1966), Boyd H. Davis and Raymond K. O'Cain (1980) and E. F Konrad Koerner (1991, 1998). They form a vast repertoire of 90 biographical writings (Sebeok) and 43 autobiographies (Davis, O'Cain and Koerner). Linguistics in USA has a pioneering nature in this area and shows in its accounts the extraordinary dynamism of the authors. The article considers the autobiography as a documentary source of the narrative historiography trend, which allows to study the trajectory of the authors and chart the landscape of contemporary linguistics. Among other linguists, the paper chooses and analyzes the figure of Dwight Bolinger as a multifaceted and brilliant example of American linguistics, thought in the first person plural. The voices of those linguists inquire with stories about the meaning of their lives and face the transience of collective memory.

En 1974 lingüistas españoles, coordinados por Rafael Lapesa, pronunciaron diez conferencias sobre lingüística. El libro Comunicación y lenguaje (Lapesa 1977) reproduce el contenido de las exposiciones. Este artículo realiza un estudio textual y contextual de la publicación. A pesar de su función divulgativa, las conferencias aportan un panorama sagaz de la lingüística en España. La nómina de oradores muestra los intereses de las cátedras de gramática española y lingüística en la universidad española. Esta época audaz, heterogénea y condescendiente permite una comparación simbólica con el Barroco. Sus rasgos son la pluralidad y la confrontación de corrientes, así como un neoplatonismo formalista y ahistoricista. La comedia Pigmalión, que Bernard Shaw escribió en 1912 y estrenó al año siguiente, es una proclamación artística de la lingüística. A pesar de la popularidad de la obra, es un acontecimiento que se conoce como una anécdota extravagante. El extraordinario mérito de Pigmalión ha pasado desapercibido para la historia de la lingüística. Su mérito estriba en la calidad teatral, la capacidad prospectiva de Shaw y la intención social de su mensaje. Shaw anuncia la utilidad de la lingüística en facetas que, décadas después, se conocerán como sociolingüística, planificación lingüística y logopedia. Por otra parte, se ha relacionado de modo simplista el personaje del profesor Higgins al fonetista H. Sweet., The play Pygmalion, that Bernard Shaw wrote in 1912 and released the following year, is an artistic proclamation of Linguistics. Despite the popularity of the play, this event is known as an extravagant story. The History of Linguistics does not recognize the extraordinary merit of Pygmalion. Its merit lays in the theatrical quality ant the social intention of the message. Shaw announces the usefulness of Linguistics in facets that will be known as Sociolinguistics, Language Planning and Speech Therapy. And furthermore, in a simplistic way, the character of Professor Higgins has been linked to the phonetician H. Sweet.

La investigación trata sobre las teorías lingüísticas del siglo XVII en Europa Occidental, que se basan tanto en las contribuciones empiristas hechas por la obra de John Wilkins, An Essay towards a Real Character and a Philosophical Language (1668) como en las contribuciones racionalistas de la Gramática de Port-Royal (1660). El estudio expone el contenido de dichas obras y su relación con las tendencias de la Lingüística actual.ENGLISH, The research deals with Linguistic theories in the 17th Western Europe, which are based up either on the empirical contributions to Linguistics by John Wilkins (An Essay towards a Real Character and a Philosophical Language, 1668) or on the rationalist contributions to Linguistics by the Port-Royal Grammar (1660). The study sets their contents and their relation with some trend in the present Linguistics.

[spa]El artículo recoge y critica diez prejuicios sobre la construcción de la historia de la lingüística. En ellos se resume un espíritu antihistórico que pone en peligro la perspectiva científica de los lingüistas. La negación del interés de la historia o la reducción de su atención a la propia escuela son manifestaciones de esos prejuicios. La concepción de una historia acumulativa y definitiva es otro de esos tópicos engañosos. Frente a esos prejuicios está la práctica de la historia de la lingüística, que apela al principio de que la lingüística opera con una variedad de paradigmas en competencia. El sentido histórico permite asimilar la realidad de que los modelos de la lingüística están determinados por la perspectiva con que se estudia el lenguaje y la comunicación., [eng]The article collects and criticizes ten prejudices about the construction of the history of linguistics. They summarize an antihistorical spirit that endangers the scientific perspective of linguists. The denial of the interest of history or the reduction of its attention to the own doctrinal current are manifestations of those prejudices. The conception of a cumulative and definitive history is another one of those deceptive topics. Faced with these prejudices is the practice of the history of linguistics, which appeals to the principle that linguistics operates with a variety of competing paradigms. The historical sense allows us to assimilate the reality that the models of linguistics are determined by the perspective with which language and communication are studied.

The article analyzes the work of Serge Latouche, Lingüística y economía política (1973), and Augusto Ponzio, Gramática transformacional e ideología política (1972). These texts relate analogically structural and generative linguistics with economy and ideology. The paper interprets these writings with the linguistic turn in the twentieth century and the structuralist attitude of Human and Social sciences. This study uses the thought of philologist and poet J. Valente to understand the role of language as a paradigm and cultural myth. In the texts of S. Latouche and A. Ponzio Linguistics is object of praise and criticism for its limitations in the study of discourse. Key words: historiography, structuralism, generative grammar, paradigm, economy, ideology, linguistic turn. El artículo analiza las obras de Serge Latouche, Lingüística y economía política (1973), y Augusto Ponzio, Gramática transformacional e ideología política (1972). Son textos que relacionan de manera analógica la lingüística estructural y generativista con la economía y la ideología. El artículo interpreta estos escritos a la luz del giro lingüístico del siglo XX y la actitud estructuralista de las ciencias humanas y sociales. Este estudio utiliza el pensamiento del filólogo y poeta J. A Valente para comprender el papel de la lingüística como paradigma y mito cultural. En los textos de S. Latouche y A. Ponzio la lingüística es objeto de elogio y de crítica por sus limitaciones en el estudio del discurso.
