Abstract

Highlights: [•] Earthquakes of M l 5.1 show that the most seismically active regions are KRV and Kavirondo (Nyanza) rift zone. [•] Epicentral distribution along Kavirondo (Nyanza) rift implies SW continuation of this rift zone. [•] The Rift Valley shows more seismic activity in northern Tanzania than in southern Kenya. [•] Swarm activity around Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano is the reason for high seismicity in northern Tanzania. [•] There is high microearthquake activity in the Kenyan rift valley which warrants close monitoring. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
