This article introduces the Renaissance “Iron Gate” erected in 1503–4 in the Khan’s Palace in Bahçesaray, Crimea. It proposes a new interpretation of this famous portal in the residence of the Crimean khans, taking into consideration the broader cultural context of early modernity. The research focuses on the visual appearance of the Iron Gate and the content of its unique inscription. Comparison with other portals and a tomb from the Balkans, on one hand, and with titulature in inscriptions, coins, and diplomatic documents from the Turco-Mongol-Islamic environment, on the other, furnishes enough data to situate the portal within the historical-cultural context of the khanate in the northern Black Sea region. Through an analysis of ways in which envoys were received in the Crimean capital, and an assessment of the architectural environment of the palace, new dimensions are opened into understanding Khan Mengli Geray I’s self-representation as ruler during this historically significant period.

APOCRYPHAL Acts of the Apostles , *CHRISTIANS , *HISTORY - Abstract
This article reviews recent claims that the Acts of the Apostles should be dated in the second century, not in the first century as most scholars currently argue. It notes a range of works that make such claims in passing, but focuses on the multi-authored work Acts and Christian Beginnings, and on some of the publications on which its authors depend. Particular attention is given to the work of Richard Pervo and his case that Acts used both Josephus and a collection of Paul’s letters, and his claim that this requires a second-century date for Acts. The article notes the strength of the case for Luke’s use of both Josephus’ Antiquities and some of Paul’s letters, but questions whether this requires a second-century date, and reflects on the wider issues that are at stake. The objective of the present paper is to study an Arab tale which is probably related to the genesis of the Spanish proverb «Estar esperando a que caiga la breva» (Waiting for the fig to fall»), the latter announcing the laziness of its main character. Throughout these pages, we will connect this story with numerous examples —both written and oral— of a tale in which several lazy men are waiting for a fig to fall into their mouths. The tale in question arrived in France from Algeria in the second half of the 19th century and later made its entry in Spain. The different versions and variants that we have collected will allow us to prove its oral and written diffusion in both France and Spain, as well as in several countries in the Arab world, where it is linked to various sayings.

TEXTUAL criticism , *HISTORICAL errors , *LITERARY errors & blunders , *TECHNICAL specifications , *HISTORICAL chronology , *ISLAMIC calendar , *IMAGINARY histories ,HADITH criticism - Abstract
Among the hadith text critique, measures of value which are taken into consideration, hadith texts have a special importance in terms of "historical data and fact demonstration". In this article, firstly it is given examples to historical information errors in the hadith works, and then it is showed how historical errors are criticized in the 'mevzuât' works through examining two sample sources. As assessing such accounts, it should be given importance other points in addition to general critique methods. In this context firstly it can be said that people have different criteria in putting a date in different periods and they used different calendars. In terms of Islamic history, continuing nesi' application until the Farewell Pilgrimage, adopting Islamic calendar in the time of Umar, and putting date later on previous events can be counted. This circumstance has important effects on different dates. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Latinus, the terminus transpertusus and a boundary found in Saint-Martin-du-Var (Alpes-Maritimes). A Roman boundary stone has recently been identified on the hills of the left bank of the lower river Var (France). This can be recognized on the ground of its shape and characteristics as one described about 400 AD by Latinus under the name terminus transpertusus. Its situation also fits with Latinus’ description. Although its date and scope remain unclear, it is certain that this was part of a system (an other boundary stone has been seen in the surrounding area). In: Dialogues d'histoire ancienne, vol. 39, n°1, 2013. pp. 53-61.

After discussing the scholarly preference for dating Jesus' crucifixion to 7 April 30 CE, this article argues that the precise date can no longer be recovered. All we can claim with any degree of historical certainty is that Jesus died some time around Passover (perhaps a week or so before the feast) between 29 and 34 CE. The emergence of the Johannine tradition (in which Jesus died on the day of Preparation) and the Markan tradition (in which Jesus died on the Passover itself) are explored through the lens of social/collective memory.

Most of the studies about this play deal with its date: 1613 is commonly accepted as the year of composition. This article tackles this problem and defends the year 1608 by establishing the connection between the comedia and its sources. This article also explains the segmentation and structure of this comedia El presente trabajo se realizó en el marco del Proyecto Consolider-Ingenio CSD2009-00033 sobre «Patrimonio teatral clásico español» TECE- TEI, conocido como TC-12, cuyo coordinador general es Joan Oleza, de la Universitat de València SI

About 20 vessels, made of fine clay fired in whitish tones (10YR 8/2, 10YR 8/2-3, 5Y 8/1), with the polished surface ornamented with painting in fading brown, originate from Singidunum. In comparison with analogous material from Donja (Lower) Panonia and Dalmatia, the importance of these vessels is to be found in the fact that they were excavated from settlement horizons dated to the second half of the 3rd and early 4th century. Based on the shapes and technological features of ceramics from Lower Panonia and Dalmatia, which have been published, as well as on the observations of the finds from Singidunum, it is to be assumed that they were the output of the same workshop which not only had a small scale of production but also a meager scope of shapes, meaning goblets i.e. cups as favorable form.
