5. SYNERGY OF PHILOLOGICAL DISCIPLINES: COMBINING THE VECTORS OF LINGUISTICS AND LITERARY STUDIES IN THE CONTEXT OF MODERN SCIENCE.

- Abstract
The purpose of this research is to analyse the epistemological and methodological boundaries between the two philological disciplines and to provide a scientific justification for their common nature. The paper notes that literary studies and science share a similar scientific discourse, which makes it inseparable from linguistics. The chaos theories in science and the postmodernist movement in literature at the beginning of the century are explained by the common origin of these disciplines and the common cultural context. Linguistics is also influenced by the paradigm shift of the century, but the problems concerning the boundaries of these disciplines in tandem remain open. Different scientific approaches have been used to study and interpret the phenomena of the synergy of philological disciplines and the unification of linguistics and literary studies in the context of modern science. In the conclusions, we emphasise the intersection of these disciplines, which allows us to explain not only the style of literary works but also "rhetoric", transdiscursive norms that regulate the way messages are expressed and understood in speech, and the textuality of linguistic dogmas. After all, thanks to the joint analysis of texts, their structural and linguistic features, it is possible to understand their role in shaping and reflecting social, political, and moral values of society. SPANIARDS , *CULTURAL landscapes , *TWENTIETH century , *ANTHOLOGIES , *POETRY (Literary form) , *CANON (Literature) - Abstract
This article presents an argument about the reasons for the exclusion of Spanish women and their literary production in relation with the rest of the Group of '27 literary canon. In order to evidence the marginalization of these authors and demonstrate their absence in the cultural Spanish landscape, the article begins with an explanation of the historical and sociopolitical context of Spain during the early decades of the 20th century. Afterward, this paper presents a conceptualization of literary canon as a starting point to approach the polemic associated with the --commonly referred to as-- Generation of '27 as well as the configuration of poetry as a characteristic genre in comparison to the other literary work, and the role that critics and history played in the conformation of the canon of the '27 movement. Finally, it is concluded that women were not part of the modernization attempts in Spain at the beginning of the 20th century for different reasons: relegation of them to the domestic sphere, the high representation of men in the Group of '27, the significant role of anthologies and magazines in shaping the canon, and the repression caused by the dictatorship of the Franco regime. Ezekiel carried out his ministry in one of the most tragic contexts in the history of Israel: he saw the kingdom of Judah disappear under the rule of the Babylonian Empire and was deported to the Babylonian capital with the elites of Jerusalem. In this desperate scenario, he was called to prophesy. The narrative of the vision of the valley full of dried up bones expresses the challenge of the mission. This article aims to analyze Ez 37:1-14 from a literary point of view, seeking to abstract the theological message. The methodology uses resources from the literary analysis of the text, to raise historical aspects and some relevant theological contributions. Authors in the area of biblical-theological studies such as José Tolentino de Mendonça, in his work "Leitura Infinita. The Bible and its Interpretation", from the epistemological field of Literature, such as Salvatore D'onofrio, and specifically from biblical exegesis, such as Alonso Schokel and Sicre Diaz, were researched and served as theoretical references. The results point to three relevant aspects: 1) the urgency of an "integral ecology" in which the dignity of each person is expressed in their responsibility for the restoration and promotion of life in a holistic dimension; 2) The revelation of YHWH not only as the God of Israel, but also as the God of Life in the here and now of the time called "today"; 3) the challenge for us to cultivate a non-alienated mystical experience in our spirituality. Ultimately, the text studied and the book of Ezekiel is, therefore, very relevant for biblical studies in the current context of so many wars, cataclysms and widespread hopelessness. 9. A FORMA DO ROMANCE HISTÓRICO EM AGOSTO, DE RUBEM FONSECA.

- Abstract
In the work Agosto, the Brazilian writer Rubem Fonseca narrates the political crisis of 1954, which culminated in the suicide of President Getúlio Vargas. Thus, this study aims to identify the classic elements of the historical novel present in this narrative. Therefore, this study was based on the theoretical construct of Lukács (2011), on the literary criticism of Anderson (2007) and on the historiography from Castro (2013), Cunha (2018) and Medeiros (2020). Regarding the research method, a bibliographic review was used in addition to the comparative method to identify the classic elements of the historical novel in the work in question. The guiding problem of this analysis is: how does Rubem Fonseca figure the 1954 crisis through the form of the historical novel in Agosto? Therefore, it is concluded that, even with differences in the motivation of the classic historical novel and that of Agosto, by Rubem Fonseca, its essential elements configure it as a legitimate historical novel. HISTORICITY , *HISTORICAL literacy , *LINGUISTIC typology - Abstract
Literature requires multiplying interest in it through its teaching, which conceives it as an object of knowledge, capable of providing the keys to deepening understanding about the rich and varied, current and future, network of culture-society. Such teaching, in its character related to history or an interdisciplinary perspective and orientation, can and should contribute to that purpose. The possibilities offered by the historical novel and/or strong links with history to work on these relationships are of great importance at all levels of education. This more than any other novel typology, is an exceptional source of historical knowledge, capable of being used for knowledge of the past, the present, and the projection of the human being, at least towards the immediate future. Likewise, it contributes to the formation of a humanistic culture in the students, with the consequent foreshadowing of ethical and aesthetic values, and what is even better, to the creation of ideo-political values when the students come in contact with the historical memory of the people. REGIONAL identity (Psychology) , *REALITY , *NATIONALISM - Abstract
This article deals with "Benzulul" a story that gives its name to the first work of the Chiapas writer Eraclio Zepeda Ramos. This and other publications of the well-known "Ciclo de Chiapas" are linked to the sociohistorical environment of the authors who participated in the cultural projects and public policies of the government of Lázaro Cárdenas del Río to serve the indigenous population, delineating the national identity and homogenizing language. To question these notions, a historical analysis of the author's context and his work is presented; subsequently, a general literary review of the regional elements of "Benzulul" (1959) is carried out while values that scholars have expressed around the work are retaken and their considerations are elaborated based on the theoretical contributions emanating from the theory of literature, history, and cultural studies. It's concluded that "Benzulul" is a work product of the context in which it arises. In it, the regional reality is articulated with the vision and voice of the author who, like others, became involved in the actions carried out by the government to serve the indigenous population with an acculturation project. It is worth saying that the objectives of these policies were modified with the intervention of artists and intellectuals, which resulted in a conception of identity-based on diversity and the resignification of indigenous and mestizo characters, no longer perceived as victims or being's exotic but as universal subjects, with vices and virtues. The article discusses the relationship between literature and language by João Guimarães Rosa into the context of intellect-cultural exchanges in Brazil in the 1940s and 1950s consulting the writer's books, his marks and notes made in the printed material, identifying how the writer manages to take advantage of sound and imagery elements of a mass culture, as he himself indicates, published in supports such as books and other printed materials, radios and films revealing a Brazil to Brazilians who read, heard and read, through words, but also through theirs sounds and images. The text intends to add to the rich linguistic erudite project of Guimarães Rosa which led him to be considered the greatest prose writing of the Brazilian 20 th century his intercultural exchanges and, in particular, the relationship of his art with equipment of a mass culture which, instead of subtracting erudition components from his work, enhances and opmizes them. POLITICAL persecution , *POLITICAL prisoners , *HISTORIOGRAPHY , *FICTION , *MEMORY - Abstract
While looking at human linguistic constructions we understand, in a reciprocal relation, that History talks about Literature, as well as Literature can read (and tell) History. This relationship makes many concepts unstable, such as the boundaries between reality and fiction. Existing in this fine line are Graciliano Ramos's Memórias do Cárcere (1953) to which we dedicate the focus of this article. To do so, we think of it not only as a poetic narrative creation but also as a historical record. Thence, we take the book's writing and publication context into account remembering that it has been written in a historical period when one could not freely talk about Getúlio Vargas's government repression over political prisoners. Thus, we can read Graciliano Ramos' narrative as a way to rethink or deconstruct this period's official discourse spread by many media. We observe this Graciliano's work as a literary text that allows H(h)istory's (re)reading. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this brief interview, the French historian Roger Chartier (Lyon, 1945) covers a series of concepts related to three of the major areas to which he has devoted most of his academic work over the last four decades. The first deals with the figure of the author and in it a conceptual arc is authenticated that goes from new technologies applied to literary production and changes in authorial models to a return to the classics. The second axis focuses on the book as a support for texts and is an attempt to cover the different materialities of said object (physical, electronic or audiobook books). The third axis, in this case a single broad question, reflects the relationships between the historiographical and literary sciences, how they intersect, and ways to approach the historicity of texts. This article aims to analyze the issues relating to the historical novel as a genre whose role in social life exceeds (or may exceed) the purely recreational functions that are assigned to it. The article begins by discussing the challenges of defining and classifying a novel, considering the enormous diversity of literary genres. This is partly the result of discrepancies in methodology used by individual researchers, but also the prevailing ideological assumptions in a given historical context. While assessing the evolution of the historical novel, the author considers the three main theorists of the novel, Georg Lukács, Ian Watt, and Mikhail Bakhtin, and their views on the form, convention, and internal differentiation of the genre. The documentary value of the historical novel and its potential to illuminate past events by reconstructing and processing them is also discussed. The article concludes by considering the current state of the historical novel and its ability to shape the historical consciousness and collective societal memories. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ARTISTIC influence , *TWENTIETH century , *CRITICAL analysis , *AUTHORS , *LITERARY form , *LITERATURE , *LITERARY criticism - Abstract
The notion of subject has recently gained increasing influence in discussions of literary criticism and theory, particularly among authors such as Luiz Costa Lima. Despite his concern to enunciate his assumptions, Costa Lima does not dwell on the philosophical discussion about the historical variation of the subject, which characterised the debates on the concept in the 20th century. This perspective allows us to problematize what are the different forms of the subject and, above all, by which processes these forms are produced. Thus, this article aims to outline the key points of the debate about the epochalization of the subject, identifying its problems and assumptions, which are the basis of Costa Lima's discussion. From a critical analysis of the perspectives of Heidegger, Foucault and Elias Palti, the paper seeks to shed light on the philosophical bases of the variability of forms of the subject, which, even if not stated, can be linked to recent debates in the theory of literature. The book describes the system of communist censorship in Poland in the years 1948–1958, as well as its effects on the development of literature. It is the first literary studies work which takes up the subject in such broad and systematic terms. The book is divided into three main parts: an attempt at synthesis (theory and practice of censorship), special cases (censorship of specific writers), authorial strategies (the authors’ ways of dealing with censorship) and contexts. The most important conclusion which can be drawn from the research is that out of many small changes emerges an image of a very significant one. Numerous small cuts and alterations build up to an image of Polish literature of the 1940s and 1950s as a whole. A whole that was always dependant on and subservient to politics.

Journalism and literature have always maintained a close relationship. While some literary works resemble the journalistic style of reporting on the present, some written reports are true literary works thanks to a narrative that exceeds the techniques of conventional journalism. It is within this framework that one can talk about literary journalism, journalism written by journalists (and not journalism written by writers or about journalists), which, following the rules and requirements that define the profession, makes room for the use of techniques typically associated with literature. Portugal has a long literary journalism history, and journalists who are distinguished by this style. This study seeks to offer a diachronic view of Portuguese literary journalism through an analysis of its development, from the end of the 19th century and across the First Republic, the Estado Novo, after April 25, to the present day. At the same time, we will consider different examples of international literary journalism to establish a possible definition for the topic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The reviews, editorials, and short summaries that appear in archived Czech periodicals provide an abundant source of documentation on the propagation of Italian culture, as well as the Italian reception of Czech literature and culture, shedding light on a number of important figures and institutions that played a role in Czech-Italian cultural exchange. This study examines the mutual cultural relations that took place at the level of various institutions, including the organisation of numerous lectures and conferences, at which notable guests were invited to speak on (and promote) Italian culture and language. At its peak, this cultural exchange also included the founding of a library of Italian literary works and publication of various periodicals, as well as the participation of both Czech and Italian academics and intellectuals residing in Prague in the promotion of Italian culture. SPANISH language , *CULTURE , *COLLECTIVE consciousness , *JEWISH communities , *SPANISH literature , *LANGUAGE acquisition - Abstract
The article addresses the Hispanic-Jewish influence on the cultural development of Spain, highlighting the importance of Jews and converts in cultural activity and the development of the Spanish language and literature. It reviews the historiographic and philological research on the Jewish presence in the Iberian Peninsula and their contributions to the cultural and literary development of Spain. It discusses the presence of Jewish communities in the Nasrid kingdom of Granada and their participation in commercial and artisanal activities. It also mentions the expulsion of Jews from Spain in 1492 and their influence on the cultural development of the country. The translation work carried out by Hispanic-Jews in the court of King Alfonso X is highlighted, which boosted the use and prestige of Castilian as a language of high culture. In addition, the influence of Hispanic-Jews on the cultural development of Spain is analyzed from the origin of Spanish literature and the first manifestations of Castilian as a language of culture. The hypothesis is raised that a Jew was the creator of the moaxaja, a literary genre. The influence of Jewish culture in Spain has been decisive for its cultural flourishing, although it has disappeared from the collective consciousness of Spaniards. However, interest in the Jewish presence in Spanish culture is increasing. [Extracted from the article]

35. Grandes obras para pequenos leitores: Portugal Pequenino de Raul Brandão e Maria Angelina Brandão em contexto das Humanidades Digitais.

- Abstract
An experimental and prospective study of educational extension is presented that mobilizes a descriptive analysis, from the perspective of cultural and environmental heritage, of the bridge-book for children and adults, Portugal Pequenino by Raul Brandão and Maria Angelina Brandão, with a view to the production of content for a mobile digital application. Building on from prior investigative experience of the authors in the development of the exploratory project "Raul Brandão and intergenerational relations at the digital humanities interface", it aims to develop a new dimension of this initiative. It consists of a brief approach to the literature review of the transdisciplinary area Digital Humanities in Portugal, the theoretical-methodological framework of which that underpins the study presented. Digital Humanities has managed to bring together a community of researchers that tends to grow and assert itself (Alves, 2016 a) and b), albeit in a global mapping, with regard to Portuguese-speaking heritages, the performance is lower than that of other traditions and cultures, namely Anglo-Saxon (Pereira, 2015: 110-140). However, under the impact of the increasing consolidation of the inter/transdisciplinary area of Digital Humanities on an international scale, this new field of research in Portugal has been gradually growing into a broader movement of renewal of discourses and practices of affirmation and integration of digital media transversal to the Humanities and Social Sciences. This article aims to analyze the films "The Three Fat Men" (1963, 1966), as well as the homonymous literary work published in 1927 of these film adaptations, by the Soviet Yuri Olesha, as primary sources of the history of obesity. Methodologically, besides being a historical study, it was also characterized as a multiple case study. For the analysis of the material, the discursive analysis of the enunciation was used. For the data collection, the book was read and watched the movies, identifying excerpts that were considered relevant. After the analyzes, the results allowed to constitute statements that composed a discursive formation in which the fat ones are gluttons, rich, powerful and brave. Although it is a piece of Communist propaganda, this discursive formation diverges from the bourgeois-fat, identified in other historical sources, since the three fat men were more resemble to feudal lords than to bourgeois, in the restricted sense of this term in the Marxist doctrine. Thus, it was concluded that the materials are primary sources relevant to the history of obesity in both literature and cinema. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The text analyses the description of Miramar in the discourses of literature and history. First, it makes a comparative reading of the reconstruction of the palace in Fernando del Paso's and David Miklos' texts. Then, with the castello as a middle point between literature and history, it analyses the romantic final that Miklos creates for the emperor and his castle and Del Paso's swing between literary evocation and historical reflection, according to the Aristotelian of the making of the poet and the historian. - Abstract
This work aims to discuss childhood in Tom Thumb under the eyes of Robert Darnton. For this, we support ourselves in the problematizations of childhood history (HEYHOOD, 2004), oral tales as documents and historical sources (DARNTON, 1986), childhood and literature (AMARILHA, 2000). The type of research used is the bibliographic and the approach is qualitative. In the analysis of the story, we observe that the predominant childhood is the poor, miserable and abandoned peasant girl. Due to this problematic and miserable context, it is necessary that artifacts or magical beings appear to take peasant families out of their degrading situations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

GERMAN Unification, 1990 , *GERMAN literature , *GERMAN authors , *CULTURAL identity , *MULTICULTURALISM - Abstract
In this article, the authors refer to the play "Kein Schiff wird kommen" ("No ship will come"), 2010, by a young German playwright Nisa-Momme Stockmann, in which "historical events are refracted in the context of personal events of the characters". In the center of the play is a young man, a writer, who was commissioned by the theater to write about the fall of the Berlin Wall. The protagonist of the play is a representative of an indifferent generation, far from politics and history. In 1989, he himself was a child, and the reunification of Germany, at first glance, had no effect on him. However, upon closer inspection, it turns out that the fall of the wall turned out to be an important event for him and his family. Only an appeal to the history of the country and the family helps the character to resolve the internal conflict. This shows the relationship with the tradition of German literature after World War II: German writers often refer to historical facts in their works. The key topic is of guilt and responsibility, which has been rethought in the literature over the past 60 years. Analysing the drama allows us to conclude that modern young people reject their past, which causes the character's personality crisis, and it also leads to failure in communication. In addition, alongside with ousting the past, the problem of German identity arises. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The political and military conflicts that occurred in Spain during the first decades of the 19th century caused the exile of a significant number of Spanish people of all types and ideologies. Among them, the afrancesados and liberals were the political sides that suffered the problems of exile most intensively: the exile of the josefinos at the end of the Peninsular War and that of the liberals in 1814 and 1823 became the great Spanish political exodus of the 19th century. England and France were the main host countries and, from foreign soil, many of the exiled used the press as a means of survival or as a political weapon. The main objective of this article is to study one of those political newspapers published by liberals exiled in 1823 who were living in revolutionary France, El Dardo, edited by the radical military man Nicolás Santiago Rotalde in 1831. We attempt to analyse the political and literary contents of this publication, which was tinged with criticism and satire, along with a scathing and combative tone, within the context of the liberal exile in this last stage of the Ominous Decade.

- Abstract
This article offers a critical approach to Jose Leon Sanchez's narrative work by addressing the author's manner of rewriting Costa Rican and Latin American reality, fundamentally in terms of testimonial forms, historical discourse and the recovery of memory as constitutive elements of identitarian processes. This analysis also distinguishes three main stages in Jose Leon Sanchez's writing process: a first stage that ranges from his early works to La Luna de Hierba Roja (1983); a second one framed within the exploration of the possibilities of the historical novel in Latin American context with works such as Tenochtitlan (1986) and Campanas para Llamar al Viento (1989) and, lastly, a third stage where biography as a genre explores the life of key characters in Costa Rican cultural life, as it takes place in the novel Al florecer, las rosas madrugaron (2014). To conclude, this article reflects upon the national academic community's need to direct a greater attention to Jose Leon Sanchez's narrative work, deemed as a relational system where the narrator permanently exerts an evaluative function over the diegesis and characters of his work with the purpose of reaching better forms of human convivence and education to reach true social transformation. The article reviews the initial trajectory of Roberto Schwarz’ “misplaced ideas” thesis, with the purpose of addressing two issues that are derived from it – first, whether the thesis can be regarded as a historiographic paradigm, capable of informing a history of literature (in Brazil but also elsewhere); second, to identify the thesis limits, considering the current debate in Brazilian historiography, which departs from the views of Brazilian history that animated the Schwarzian creation, especially the view of Caio Prado Júnior. The article finishes with a synthesis of the original thesis, from a new angle, and a synthesis of the limits that were detected in the thesis, which contradict the generalizing (“universalizing”) vocation of the thesis and are center of the difficulties of the generalizability of the “misplaced ideas” thesis beyond the Brazilian 19th century. The aim of this study is to investigate the ways in which the British Marxist historian E. P. Thompson approaches literature in his historiographic work. This implies reflecting on how the author thinks about the relationship between history as a discipline and literature. As expected, although Thompson does not explicitly mention it, his link to the materialist and dialectical tradition of art and literature studies is clear. Therefore, “form” and “content” compose a unitary relationship of mutual inter determination and cannot in any way be understood separately. The study also identifies Thompson’s potential interlocutors and his sources of inspiration, in the sometimes unpeaceful relationship be-tween the two areas. Finally, the study emphasizes how literature is perceived as a unique way of getting to know the world. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
