This article discusses the ideas defended by the well-known classical historian Geoffrey E. R. Lloyd in regard to the dichotomy mythos and logos. We do so in three steps: firstly, we present briefly the differences that Lloyd sees between these two types of speeches; secondly, Lloyd’s case for dismantling any strong form of dichotomy is reviewed; thirdly, we attempt a critical approach to Lloyd’s ideas trying to show that there is a veiled epistemological ambiguity in some of his contentions. The study method use is, as in all humanities, the critical reading and discussion of the primary sources (Lloyd’s work). We conclude that Lloyd’s general approach, insomuch as it urges us to prosecute a via media between naïve form of realisms and strong cultural (etnographic) contextualisms, appears to be a sound strategy, yet ¬from our standpoint, such loable programme is debunked by the specific strategies Lloyd introduces to account for it. &nbsp, Este artigo discute as ideias defendidas pelo famoso historiador clássico Geoffrey E. R. Lloyd nos mythos e logotipos.Fazemos isso em três etapas: primeiro, apresentamos brevemente as diferenças que Lloyd vê entre esses dois tipos de discursos;Em segundo lugar, o caso de Lloyd para o desmantelamento da dicotomia é revisado;Em terceiro lugar, tentamos uma abordagem crítica das idéias de Lloyd, que temos uma ambigüidade epistemológica velada em algumas de suas afirmações. &nbsp

Resumo Este artigo centra-se na problemática sobre como os atores políticos e administrativos se relacionam, concentrando-se na seleção de altos funcionários públicos como peças-chave no processo de implementação de políticas públicas. Em relação à metodologia adotada, foram realizadas uma revisão da literatura e uma análise documental, bem como a aplicação de um questionário on-line para altos funcionários que ocupavam cargos gerenciais entre 2004 e 2011 (n = 964). Em todas as análises, foram considerados estatisticamente significativos os resultados dos testes de hipóteses, com um valor de p igual ou inferior a .05 (p ≤ .05). A análise permitiu confirmar dois componentes/critérios principais que estão na fonte da seleção de altos funcionários públicos (políticos e profissionais) e, dentro de cada um, os respetivos fatores que os compõem. Pudemos reconhecer que o componente político tem seu peso, mas não foi possível confirmar completamente a hipótese de que, em Portugal, os fatores que influenciaram a seleção de altos funcionários públicos eram predominantemente políticos.

Este artículo tiene por objetivo analizar la novela Viento del este, Viento del oeste de Pearl S. Buck en la que se manifiestan de forma única las tesis sostenidas por Edward Said en su obra Orientalismo. Si bien Said se ha dedicado al estudio de las narrativas de los siglos XIX y primera mitad del XX que tienen por objeto el análisis del choque cultural, no ha extendido sus teorías a la dialéctica masculinidad-feminidad. Sin embargo, es posible reconocer estas mismas categorías epistemológicas orientalistas en la configuración de los relatos constitutivos de la esencia femenina. En este sentido, la novela pone de manifiesto cómo esta configuración de la esencia femenina se realiza a través de un proceso violento y cultural ejercido sobre el cuerpo. En particular, el artículo se centra en tres paralelismos entre las tesis orientalistas y la construcción de la esencia femenina: a) La dicotomía Oriente-Occidente; b) la bipolaridad femenino-masculino; y c) la dialéctica cuerpo-alma, que muestran la perspicaz manera en que la narrativa corporal subyace a la configuración de la autocomprensión existencial femenina., This article analyzes the novel East Wind: West Wind of Pearl S. Buck, in which the theses held by Edward Said in his work Orientalism are manifested in a unique way. Although Said has devoted himself to the study of the narratives of the Nineteenth and the first half of the Twentieth centuries that are aimed at the analysis of the cultural clash, he has not extended his theories to the dialectic masculinity-femininity. However, it is possible to recognize these same epistemological orientalist categories in the configuration of the constitutive accounts of the feminine essence. In this sense, the novel shows how this configuration of the feminine essence is realized through a violent and cultural process exercised on the body. In particular, the article focuses on three parallels between the orientalist thesis and the construction of the feminine essence: a) The East-West dichotomy; b) feminine-masculine bipolarity; and c) the dialectic body-soul, which show the insightful way in which the body narrative underlies the configuration of female existential self-understanding.

portuguesNo decorrer dos ultimos tres seculos desenvolveu-se em etica uma dicotomia entre fatos e valores cuja influencia ainda hoje gera discussoes. Nesse ensejo, a intencao deste artigo e propor, a partir do realismo-cognitivo de Scanlon, uma leitura alternativa a respeito dessa dicotomia estabelecida entre fatos e valores. Em geral, boa parte desse problema deve-se ao motivo de que as reivindicacoes do dominio normativo sao muitas vezes avaliadas a partir da otica da ciencia (dominio nao-normativo), isto e, da visao cientifica de mundo (scientific view of the world). Mas conforme buscarei sustentar, e preciso que o dominio normativo seja avaliado a partir dos padroes de seu proprio dominio cujo elemento basico e a relacao ser uma razao para (being a reason for). Verdades normativas sao irredutiveis na medida em que sao determinadas por certos padroes de resposta dentro de um dominio especifico em si mesmo, o que no campo normativo e realizado pela ideia de reivindicacoes normativas puras. Assim, partindo-se do pressuposto de que verdades normativas sao irredutiveis e que, nesse caso, podem ser verdadeiras ou falsas, o melhor modo de compreende-las e a partir da relacao R (p, x, c, a), sendo p um fato, x um agente, c um conjunto de condicoes e circunstâncias e a uma acao ou atitude. espanolLa dimension teorica del estudio de la violencia escolar ha quedado rezagada en el campo de la investigacion en educacion. Se constata un deficit explicativo y en consecuencia de orden teorico, con ciertos reduccionismos y una proliferacion de mediciones de conductas. En este articulo se plantea la necesidad de pasar de un objeto binario que separa, a veces en terminos de oposicion, la escuela de la sociedad a un objeto de estudio de tres dimensiones: (i) las violencias que produce la escuela; (ii) las violencias que se reproducen en la escuela; (iii) las violencias que cruzan la escuela. Esta reformulacion triadica del objeto de estudio es producto de una linea de investigacion y de la revision de la literatura indexada entre el ano 1990 y 2015. EnglishSchool violence theoretical research has been falling behind in the field of education research. An explanatory deficit emerges and therefore also theoretical, with certain reductionism and a proliferation of behavior measurement. This article focuses on the need of moving from a binary object that puts apart, sometimes in terms of opposition, the school from society, to an object of study with three dimensions: (i) different forms of violence produced by the school itself; (ii) different forms of violence that are reproduced at the school; (iii) different forms of violence that pass through the school. This triadic reformulation of the object of study is the result from a line of research and the review of indexed literature between 1990 and 2015.

L’article revient sur un procédé discursif utilisé massivement par la propagande napoléonienne dans l’organe de presse que constitue le Journal de l’Empire, à savoir l’opposition dichotomique. En même temps, il permet de mettre en avant les causes profondes de la campagne d’Espagne puisqu’il s’attarde sur les préjugés et l’incompréhension de la France face à la nation qu’elle se destina à « régénérer ». Inspirée en grande partie des Lumières, l’image montrée par le quotidien parisien est celle d’une nation espagnole ayant un potentiel important mais étant toutefois paralysée par l’action d’une communauté monacale importante, rétrograde et superstitieuse, nullement comparable aux autres clergés d’Europe. On y retrouve également l’opposition qui est faite entre les bons et les mauvais Espagnols suivant qu’ils soutiennent ou non le pouvoir napoléonien. Enfin, outre le réquisitoire qui est mené sur l’alliance malsaine qui unit la révolution espagnole à l’Anglais malfaisant, se noue un discours venant discréditer les membres de la Junte de Séville. El artículo se centra en un recurso discursivo harto utilizado por la propaganda napoleónica en el órgano de prensa que constituye el Journal de l’Empire : la oposición dicotómica. Asimismo pone de realce las causas profundas de la campaña de España ya que dedica una atención particular a los prejuicios y a la incomprensión de Francia ante la nación a la que pretende « regenerar ». La imagen difundida por el diario parisino, que se nutre esencialmente de las Luces, es la de una España con un fuerte potencial pero paralizada por la acción de una comunidad monacal ingente, retrógrada y supersticiosa, que no sufre comparaciones con el clero de otras naciones europeas. También conlleva la oposición entre los buenos y los malos españoles, o sea entre los que apoyan al poder napoleónico y los que no. Por fin, a la condena de la nefasta unión entre la revolución española y los malvados ingleses, se agrega un discurso destinado a desacreditar a los miembros de la Junta de Sevilla. The article deals with a discursive process massively used by the Napoleonic propaganda in the Journal de l’Empire: dichotomous opposition. At the same time, it examines the causes of the campaign of Spain, analyzing the prejudices and the incomprehension of France in front of the nation which it intended « to regenerate ». Largely inspired by the Enlightenment, the image shown by the Parisian daily paper is the one of a Spanish nation having an important potential, but paralyzed by the action of an important, reactionary and superstitious monachal community, by no means comparable to the other European clergies. The opposition is made between good and bad Spanish according to the support they give or not to the Napoleonic power. Eventually, besides the condemnation of an unhealthy alliance between Spanish Revolution to the harmful Englishman, no credit is given to the members of the Sevilla Junta.
