Charmon thailandensis sp. nov. from Thailand is described and illustrated based on a female specimen from Doi Phu Kha National Park, Nan Province, Thailand. The new species is distinguished from apparently closely-related species of Charmon Haliday, 1833, based on both morphology and DNA sequence (barcode) data. Morphologically it appears to be near to C. extensor (L., 1758) but DNA data suggest it is quite basal with respect to all the other sequenced species. A checklist of the 10 known species of Charmon with their known distributions is provided. The possibility that C. extensor might represent a complex of more than one species is briefly discussed.

Rhytidaphora Reshchikov &#38 Quicke gen. nov. (type species Rhytidaphora thailandica Reshchikov & Quicke gen. et sp. nov.) from Thailand is described and illustrated. It belongs to the tribe Euryproctini of the subfamily Ctenopelmatinae (Hymenoptera, Ichneumonidae) based on the absence of glymma and the subapical notch on the ovipositor. The new taxon differs from all other genera of Euryproctini by the occipital carina being broadly incomplete dorsally, the hypostomal carina joining the occipital carina shortly before the base of the mandible, distinctly pectinate tarsal claws, and immovably fused and strongly sculptured second and third metasomal tergites.

A new species, Euurobracon bhaskarai, Quicke sp. nov., from West Java, Indonesia, is described, illustrated and differentiated from other members of the genus. It is closely related to the type species of the genus, E. yokahamae Dalla Torre, 1898, which is known from China, India, Japan, Laos, South Korea and Thailand. Euurobracon yokahamae is redescribed and illustrated for comparative purposes. The two species are separable mainly on colouration, but differ markedly based on their mitochondrial gene sequences (cytochrome c oxidase I, cytochrome b and 16S rDNA). The slower-evolving nuclear 28S rDNA and elongation factor 1-alpha did not differentiate E. bhaskaraisp. nov. from E. yokahamae, but consistently split Euurobracon into two species groups.

A new tribe of braconid wasps provisionally included in the Rhyssalinae, Laibaleini trib. nov., type genus Laibalea gen. nov. (type species Laibalea enigmatica sp. nov.), from Kenya and the Central African Republic, is described. A molecular dataset, with emphasis on basally derived taxa based on four gene fragments (28S D2–D3 expansion region, COI barcode, elongation factor 1-alpha and 16S ribosomal DNA), was analysed both alone and in combination with a morphological dataset. Molecular phylogenetic placement of the new species into an existing subfamily is complicated by the extreme sequence divergence of the three sequences obtained for Laibalea. In both the combined sequence analysis and the combined DNA plus morphological tree, Laibalea is recovered as a sister group to the Rhyssalinae plus all non-cyclostome lineage braconids excluding Mesostoinae, Maxfischeriinae and Aphidiinae. A consensus of morphological characters and molecular analyses suggests inclusion of Laibalea either in the otherwise principally Holarctic subfamily Rhyssalinae or perhap more basally, in the principally Gondwanan Mesostoinae s.l., although we cannot exclude the possibility that it might represent a separate basal lineage. We place Laibalea in its own tribe, provisionally included in Rhyssalinae. The DNA sequence data are presented for several genera for the first time. Avga, the type genus of Avgini, is shown not to belong to Mesostoinae s.l. or Hormiinae, but its exact relationships remain uncertain. The generic compositions of Rhyssalinae and Mesostoinae s.l. are revised. Anachyra, Apoavga, Neptihormius, Neoavga and Opiopterus are shown to belong to Mesostoinae s.s. A key to the tribes of Rhyssalinae is provided.

Hymenopteran parasitoids are well known for their ubiquitous diversity, important ecological roles and biocontrol potential. We report the first detailed documentation of mite predation by a parasitoid wasp, Bracon predatorius Ranjith & Quicke sp. nov., (Insecta: Hymenoptera), first case of obligate predatory behaviour in the family Braconidae and first case of mite feeding within the superfamily Ichneumonoidea. Larvae of a new wasp species are shown to develop entirely as predators of eriophyid mites that induce leaf galls in a commercially important plant. They display highly modified head capsule morphology that we interpret as being associated with this atypical life style. We propose that the new feeding strategy evolved separately from recently described entomophytophagy in another species of the same genus. The divergent larval morphological adaptations of both species indicate a high degree of evolutionary developmental plasticity in the developmental stage.

Doggerella knobkerrie Quicke, new species (Hymenoptera, Braconidae, Braconinae), from Kenya is described and illustrated photographically. The description is justified because of the remarkably developed, club-like, ovipositor sheaths, not known elsewhere in the Ichneumonoidea.

A new genus of braconine parasitoid wasp, Acgorium Sharkey & Quicke gen. nov., based on a new species from Costa Rica, Acgorium felipechavarriai Sharkey sp. nov., is described and illustrated, based on specimens reared from wild-caught hesperiid caterpillars of Dyscophellus phraxanor (Hewitson). Acgorium felipechavarriai is the first known braconine gregarious ectoparasitoid of a butterfly caterpillar.

A new species of Trigastrotheca Cameron, 1906 from Doi Phu Kha National Park, Nan province, Thailand is described and illustrated based on a female specimen collected by light trapping, bringing the total number of Trigastrotheca species known from Thailand to three; T. doiphukhaensis Raweearamwong, Quicke & Butcher, sp. nov., T. pariyanonthae Quicke & Butcher, 2017, and T. sureeratae Quicke & Butcher, 2017. The new species differs markedly in coloration from other Thai species and is most similar to T. tridentata (Enderlein) from which it is differentiated. A checklist to the 14 species known of Trigastrotheca with their distributions is provided.

The first host record for Vervoortihelconscaramozzinoi van Achterberg, 1998 is presented and additional notes on its morphology are provided and illustrated. The species is recorded as parasitizing the cerambycid beetle Stenorhopalusrubiginus in Podocarpus L’Hér ex Pers (Podocarpaceae). The metasomal carapace is shown to be sexually dimorphic and comprising 4 tergites in females but 5 in males. Some aspects of metasomal sculpture are reported as being variable and others highly consistent between individuals and differing somewhat from the original description.

During an investigation of the insect food web in Papua New Guinea several specimens of a new genus and species of large, black and orange braconine braconid wasp were reared from fruits of Rubiaceae. These are described here as Karposibracon papuensis Quicke & Butcher gen. et sp. nov. Karposibracon gen. nov. appears to belong to the tribe Braconini and is the largest known species in this group, with body length up to 12 mm. The new genus is illustrated photographically, distinguished from other genera, and comments are on its likely biology provided.

The distinctive braconine wasp genus Rhytimorpha Szepligeti is distributed through Africa and the Near East. We provide photographic illustrations of the type specimens of the two species of Rhytimorpha known up to the present, R. coccinea Szepligeti and R. nigriceps Szepligeti. Previous published records of R. coccinea from Israel by J. Papp are confirmed. DNA barcode analysis of specimens belonging to the genus Histeromerus Wesmael, 1838 (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) reveals the presence of two species in North America. One is identified as H. canadensis Ashmead, 1891, which is widely recorded in North America, while the other is H. mystacinus Wesmael, 1838, a species formerly known only from the western Palaearctic.

The genus Vipio Latreille is revised for the Neotropical region (south of Nicaragua). All species are fully illustrated. Thirteen species are recognised of which five (V. boliviensis, V. carinatus, V. godoyi, V. hansoni, and V. lavignei) are described as new, all with descriptions attributable to Inayatullah, Shaw & Quicke. All previously described Neotropical species are redescribed. A key is included for the identification of the Vipio species known from the Americas south of Nicaragua, and all species are illustrated.

Masona popeye Quicke & Chaul sp. n. is described from Brazil, and differentiated from other species of the genus. Described extant species of Masona are known from Australia and south eastern U.S.A. (Georgia and Florida including the Key Islands). Two undescribed species are known from Tanzania and Cambodia. The new species is therefore the first representative of the subfamily Masoninae van Achterberg from South America, demonstrating the completely cosmopolitan distribution of this very poorly known group. The new species most closely resembles a fossil species, M. pyriceps van Achterberg, 2001, from Dominican amber with which it shares the plesiomorphic presence of a scutellum.

A new species of Aleiodes ( Hemigyroneuron ) from Tasmania is described and illustrated. This is the first species of the subgenus known from Australia. The type and only known specimen was reared from a mummified caterpillar collected on Coastal Wattle, Acacia longifolia subsp. sophorae (Labill.) Court, and appears to belong to the Geometridae in agreement with most previous host records for the subgenus. The new species, A. ( H. ) ellingsenae , has a color pattern that is typical of many larger Australian braconids, with the head and anterior mesosoma orange red, the rest of the body black except for a bright white tergites 2 + 3.

Troporhysipolis gen. nov. with four included species is described and illustrated. The type species, Clinocentrus antefurcalis Granger, 1949, is Afrotropical with unknown biology. We additionally recognise three new species from eastern lowland of Papua New Guinea, T. brenthiaphagus sp. nov., T. markshawi sp. nov. and T. molecularis sp. nov., all three of which were reared from leaf-rolling larvae of the family Choreutidae (Lepidoptera). The genus can be distinguished by the combination of fore wing vein cu-a (nervulus) being antefurcal and the second subdiscal (brachial) cell subparallel-sided, widened and formed of mainly thickened veins. The new species represents the first known record of Odontosphaeropyx from outside of the Afrotropical Region. Three new species of the Afrotropical braconine wasp genus Bacuma are described, and biological observations (nectar feeding) by one of them are noted. The new species are: B. kayserae Quicke & Butcher sp. nov. from Kenya, B. madiensis Quicke & Butcher sp. nov. from Uganda and B. darfurensis Quicke & Butcher sp. nov. from Sudan. A group of four large nominal species with red metasomas and finely sculptured tergites (B. granulatus, B. maculipennis, B. rufa and B. whitei) may represent a single widespread species or a pair of species separated by mesoscutum colour, or four separate but morphologically very similar species. However, given the small number of specimens available for study and the poor condition of some of these, including the types, they are not formally synonymised here. A partial key to the species of Bacuma is presented, which recognizes those species that are clearly distinct, including three new species. The Old World, cyclostome braconid wasp genus Cedria Wilkinson is recorded from Thailand for the first time based on a new species, Cedria wichasei Quicke, Belokobylskij & Butcher, sp. nov., which is described, illustrated, and a key provided to enable its separation from the closely-related species, C. galinae Belokobylskij and C. africana Belokobylskij which share strong peri-occular carina and at least rather rugose frons. Similarities to Apocedria van Achterberg & Chen, from China, are discussed.

A new species of Cystomastacoides van Achterberg, C. asotaphaga Quicke sp. n., is described and illustrated based on a series of specimens reared from caterpillars of the erebid moth Asota plana Walker from Papua New Guinea. Two other new species without biological data are also described, C. nicolepeelerae Quicke & Butcher sp. n. also from Papua New Guinea, and C. kiddo Quicke & Butcher sp. n. from Thailand. A key is provided to the four known species. The new species extend the known range of the genus considerably, itpreviously been known only from a single species from mainland China (Yunnan), and additionally provides the first host record for the genus. Other related genera are parasitoids of Sphingidae, Lymantriidae and Crambidae.

The genera Conobregma van Achterberg and Facitorus van Achterberg are recorded from the Afrotropical region and the Indian subcontinent, respectively, for the first time, and two new species are described and illustrated: Conobregma bradpitti Quicke & Butcher, sp. n. from South Africa and Facitorus nasseri Ranjith & Quicke, sp. n. from India. Conobregma bradpitti sp. n. is intermediate between Conobregma which was described originally from the New World, and Asiabregma Belokobylskij, Zaldivar-Riverón & Maetô, which was coined for the S. E. Asian and East Palaearctic (Japanese) species described under the name Conobregma, plus more recently discovered taxa, but the differences between these genera are few and slight. Of the four previously proposed diagnostic characters for separating Asiabregma from Conobregma, the new species shares two with each, and therefore, the two genera are formally synonymised. Facitorus was previously known only from the East Palaearctic region and from S. E. Asia (Japan, Nepal, Taiwan and Vietnam).

A new species, Cassidibracon gracillariae Quicke sp. n. from India, is described and illustrated and differentiated from other Indian species. The three known specimens were each reared from distinctive, exposed, bubble-coated cocoons of the gracillariid moth Stomphastis chalybacma (Meyrick 1908), which superficially resemble insect egg clusters. This is the first reported host record for the genus Cassidibracon Quicke.

Nine new species of Colastomion Baker are described, illustrated and keyed based on series of specimens reared from caterpillars of crambid moths from lowland Papua New Guinea plus one additional field collected specimen, viz. C. cheesmanae Quicke sp. n., C. crambidiphagus Quicke sp. n., C. gregarius Quicke sp. n., C. maclayi Quicke sp. n., C. madangensis Quicke sp. n., C. masalaii Quicke sp. n., C. parotiphagus Quicke sp. n., C. pukpuk Quicke sp. n. and C. wanang Quicke sp. n. Most species are morphologically easily distinguished but DNA barcoding additionally reveals a pair of exceedingly similar species (C. pukpuk sp. n. and C. maclayi sp. n.) that might otherwise have gone unrecognised. The new species each appear to be relatively specialised on their host species and all parasitize only caterpillars of Lepidoptera: Crambidae: Spilomelinae.

Confusocentrus panturat gen. n., sp. n., and Quasimodorogas confusus gen. n., sp. n., both from Thailand, are described as new and illustrated. Confusocentrus has a long ovipositor, no division between face and clypeus, an enlarged and heavily sclerotized and sculptured syntergite with subsequent ones weakly sclerotized and retracted. It resembles an heavily sculptured Clinocentrus species except for the merged face and clypeus, and the lack of transverse sculpture on the 3rd tergite. Quasimodorogas has a claw with a pointed basal lobe and an highly humped mesosoma, short metasoma, and a basally very narrow 1st metasomal tergite thus showing affinities with the Colastomion subgroup of the Rogadini. In addition it has various unique features including no separation between the base of the hind tibial spurs (unlike in Aleiodes with comb, in which it is interupted at level of inner spur) and metasoma with foveolate tergites 2–5.

The parasitic rogadine braconid wasp subgenus Hemigyroneuron, previously and inappropriately synonymized with Aleiodes (Chelonorhogas) as a result of misidentification, is here synonymized with Aleiodes (Pholichora). The uncommon Asian braconine wasp genus Ischnobracon Baltazar is revised. Eleven species are recognized of which six are described as new, namely I. albitarsus Butcher and Quicke from mainland Malaysia, I. baltazarae Butcher and Quicke from the Philippines, I. hannongbuai Butcher and Quicke from Thailand, Laos, Myanmar and Indonesia (Sulawesi), I. morleyi Butcher and Quicke from Sri Lanka, I. feliciae Butcher and Quicke from Thailand, I. xanthoflagellaris Butcher and Quicke from Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. Ischnobracon rhyssides (Enderlein) is a new junior subjective synonym of I. laboriosus (Smith).

Gondwanocentrus gen. nov. (type species Gondwanocentrus humphriesi sp. nov.) from Chile is described and illustrated. Morphological and weak molecular evidence indicate that the new genus may be a basal member of the Betylobraconini. The molecular data analysed to assess its placement additionally draw into question the relationship between Betylobraconini and Clinocentrini. Previously, the Betylobraconini were known only from the Australasian region, Oceania and Eocene Europe (Baltic amber), thus if Gondwanocentrus gen. nov. does belong to this group it confirms the groups present day Gondwanan distribution.

Cyranorogas gen. nov. (type species C. depardeui sp. nov.) from Papua New Guinea is described and illustrated. The new taxon has a uniquely produced mid-longitudinal facial ridge, which differentiates it from all other genera of Braconidae. The difficulty of distinguishing the Betylobraconinae from the Rogadinae, especially from various members of the Yeliconini, is discussed, and they are formally synonymised here with the Betylobraconini recognised as a tribe of Rogadinae. A new Hormiinae genus Indohormius gen. nov. with type species I. keralensis sp. nov. is described and illustrated. Comparison of this genus with some Hormiinae and Rhyssalinae genera are provided. The composition of the subfamily Hormiinae and the position of the new genus on a molecular phylogenetic tree are discussed.

Teresirogas Quicke & Shaw gen. nov. (type species T. australicolorus Quicke & Shaw sp. nov.) is described and illustrated, based on a series recently reared gregariously from a cocooned mummy of an unidentified species of Limacodidae collected under loose Eucalyptus bark in New South Wales, Australia. Older reared and unreared congeneric specimens represent four additional species, T. billbrysoni Quicke & van Achterberg sp. nov., T. nolandi Quicke & Butcher sp. nov., T. prestonae Quicke & van Achterberg sp. nov., and T. williamsi Quicke & van Achterberg sp. nov., which are also described and illustrated. Three of these additional species have also been reared from Limacodidae cocoons on Eucalyptus, with one, perhaps erroneous, record suggesting a saturniid host. Molecular analysis confirms the placement of the new type species of Teresirogas in the tribe Rogadini, as inferred initially from the claws with pointed basal lobe and host relationships of some of the species, but one species has the claw character poorly developed which had made its affinities uncertain before the more recently reared and sequenceable material became available.

The vast majority of braconid wasps are parasitoids of other insects. Although a few cases of pure phytophagy (primary gall production and seed predation) are known, no previous entomophytophagous species (i.e. ones that display entomophagy and phytophagy sequentially), has been discovered among braconids. We describe the detailed biology and specialized larval morphology for the first confirmed entomophytophagous braconid species. Leaf galls on Garuga pinnata Roxb. (Burseraceae) in India, induced by the psyllid, Phacopteron lentiginosum Buckton (Hemiptera: Psylloidea, Phacopteronidae) were sampled throughout a period of several months and found to suffer a high level of attack by a new species Bracon garugaphagae Ranjith & Quicke which is here described and illustrated. The wasps oviposit singly into the galls without paralysing the psyllids. The larvae first attack psyllid nymphs which they seek out within the gall, kill them with a single bite and consume them. Unique dorsal abdominal tubercles, with eversible tips present on the abdominal segments of the larvae that are used to help maintain larval position while feeding, are illustrated. After consuming all available prey, the larvae continue feeding on gall tissue until mature enough to spin cocoons and pupate. The new species illustrates, for the first time, a possible intermediate stage in the evolution of pure phytophagy within the Braconidae. Interestingly, the two unrelated seed predator Bracon species are also associated with Burseraceae, perhaps indicating that this plant family is particularly suited as a food for braconine wasps.

The Aleiodes (Aleiodes) and Aleiodes (Arcaleiodes) species of Thailand are revised based on extensive recent collectingas well as existing museum material, and combining evidence from DNA barcoding (5’ end of mitochondral cytochromeoxidase 1) for sequenced material with species known from morphological data alone. The approach taken (here termed‘turbo-taxonomy’) has been to rely heavily on colour light microscopy photographic illustration, with brief descriptionscontributing principally to characters that are not apparent from the micrographs. All new species are attributed to Quicke& Butcher. Although the very high level of diversity of the Thai fauna means this is necessarily preliminary, in the sensethat there are undoubtedly many more species awaiting to be described, it is the first reasonably comprehensive study ofa tropical Aleiodes fauna. An illustrated identificationkey provided, and some novel and hardly used characters are discussed and illustrated. Morphological and molecularcomparison of these species with the better-known Holarctic fauna shows that several previously unrecognised speciesgroups may be distinguished. Based on the Chao 1 diversity estimator, which additionally takes into account the numberof specimens represented by precisely one, and the number represented by precisely two individuals, it is estimated that when fully known, the Thai fauna includes at least 438 species of Aleiodes.

Three new species of Asian Aleiodes are described and illustrated: A.spurivena sp. n. from Vietnam, Thailand, Nepal and India; A. spurivenaduplus sp. n. from Vietnam; A. spurivenatriplus from Western Malaysia. The first two of these are differentiated based on the bar-coding, 5’ region of the cytochrome oxidase 1 gene. All three are morphologically extremely uniform and can be recognised from other Aleiodes species by the presence of a reclivous spur arising from fore wing vein 1–1A.

A new species of Aleiodes (Hemigyroneuron) from Saudi Arabia is described and illustrated. It represents the first species known from outside of sub-Saharan Africa, Madagascar, South East Asia and the East Palaearctic. It belongs to a species group comprising A. (H.) plurivena, glandularis and sharkeyi, but displays even more derived wing venation which is remarkably convergent with that of two distantly related rogadine genera, Gyroneuron and Gyroneuronella.

Preembobracon zaldivarriveroni gen et sp. nov. from Brazil is described and illustrated. It belongs to the poorly known tribe Ypsistocerini for which biology, is only partly known and then only for the genera of nominal subtribe which are both associated with termite colonies. Preembobracon displays both derived and plesiomorphic character states relative to Embobracon the only other genus of its tribe, and its position in relation to the other genera discussed. Its biology is unknown.

A second species of the braconine genus Serrundabracon is described and illustrated and distinguished from the type species, S. maraisi Braet. Both species possess the unique combination of a multiple-arched ovipositor and dentate posterior margin to the metasomal tergite 5. Corrections are made to the redescription of S. maraisi. The relationships of, and possible evolutionary transitions to, the genus are discussed.

Yelicones samaesanensis Butcher, new species, is described and illustrated based on a female and male specimens collected at light trap in Chonburi province, Thailand. This wasp is the tenth species of Yelicones described from the East Palaearctic and Oriental regions. Y. samaesanensis appears closest to Y. contractus Papp from Vietnam and India. A key is included to differentiate Y. samaesanensis from the similar species.

Two new species of the parasitic wasp genus Mesocentrus Szépligeti (Betylobraconinae) are described. One based on a new species from Papua New Guinea, the other the first Palaearctic member of the subfamily based on a 30+ mya, species from Baltic amber. The second species is illustrated using synchrotron X-ray microtomography. Whereas the extant Betylobraconinae are restricted to Australia, New Guinea and New Caledonia, their ancestral distribution is now known to have extended considerably further. A key to the four species of Mesocentrus known from Papua New Guinea is provided. Both species possess some putatively plesiomorphic characters absent in other extant Mesocentrus spp. The new extant species differs in having a considerably larger number of antennal segments and a less laterally depressed frons, while the extinct one has the clypeus separated from the face dorsally and strongly developed hypoclypeal depression. Availability of sequence data for this species enabled further analysis of the relationships of the subfamily, which we present in a phylogenetic analysis additionally including the release of a number of new sequences of related taxa.
