Three species of the Acanopsilus Kieffer, 1908, six species of Acanosema Kieffer, 1908, two species of Polypeza Förster, 1856, and four species of Psilomma Förster, 1856 of the Russian fauna are reviewed, keyed and illustrated. Six of these species are described: Acanopsilus comadensis sp. n. (Russia: Primorsky krai), A. minimus sp. n. (Russia: Primorsky krai), Acanosema (Cardiopsilus) dentigastrum sp. n. (Russia: Primorsky krai), A. (C.) epicnemium sp. n. (Russia: Primorsky krai) A. (C.) setigerum sp. n. (Russia: East Siberia, Yakutia; Sweden), Psilomma calaris sp. n. (Russia: Kunashir Island; Japan). The generic status of Cardiopsilus Kieffer, 1908 is reduced to subgeneric one under Acanosema Kieffer, 1908 and a new combination is proposed for A. productum (Kieffer, 1908), comb. n. from Cardiopsilus Kieffer, 1908.

A review of 17 European species of the genus Spilomicrus Westwood is provided with a key to and illustrations of all known European species except for the formosus group. Two species, S. diversus sp. n. (Europe, Siberia, Far East of Russia) and S. latus sp. n. (Europe), are described as new to science. The following new synonymies are established (valid name given first): S. antennatus Jurine, 1807 = S. quinquepunctatus Szabo, 1961, syn. n.; S. flavipes Thomson, 1859 = S. szelenyii Szabo, 1977, syn. n.; S. hemipterus Marshall, 1868 = S. inaequalis Tomsik, 1947, syn. n., = S. thomsoni Kieffer, 1911, syn. n.; S. integer Thomson, 1859 = S. major Vollenhoven, 1879, syn. n.; S. lusitanicus (Kieffer, 1910) = S. gracilicornis Kieffer, 1911, syn. n., = S. noctiger Szabo, 1977, syn. n.; S. nigriclavis Marshall, 1868 = S. punctatus Kozlov, 1978, syn. n., = S. nigriclavis var. subarmatus Kieffer, 1912, syn. n.; S. rufitarsis Kieffer, 1911 = S. pseudocursor Szabo, 1974, syn. n.; S. stigmaticalis Westwood, 1832 = S. basalyformis Marshall, 1868, syn. n., = S. barbatus Szabo, 1983, syn. n., = S. mediofurcatus Szabo, 1983, syn. n., = S. pilicornis Szabo, 1977, syn. n. Lectotypes are designated for 11 species: S. basalyformis Marshall, 1868, S. flavipes Thomson, 1859, S. hemipterus Marshall, 1868, S. inaequalis Tomsik, 1947, S. integer Thomson, 1859, S. modestus Tomsik, 1947, S. subarmatus Kieffer, 1912, S. thomsoni Kieffer, 1911, S. simplex Tomsik, 1947, S. stigmaticalis Westwood, 1832, and Trichopria lusitanica Kieffer, 1910.

The occurrence of the genera and morphospecies of Diapriidae (Insecta, Hymenoptera) in four habitats (stands) of eastern Mozambique, was studied. The genus Miota is recorded from the Afrotropical region for the first time. Overall, diapriids were represented by 52 morphospecies from 10 genera of the subfamilies Belytinae and Diapriinae. The highest occurrence (140 specimens) and the largest taxonomic diversity (42 morphospecies from 9 genera) were found for the diapriids in the native miombo stand (Brachystegia sp.), followed by the eucalypt, Eucalyptus spp., (92 specimens, 24 morphospecies from 8 genera), the loblolly pine, Pinus taeda, (62 specimens, 19 morphospecies from 7 genera), and the wild loquat (Uapaca kirkiana) stands (40 specimens, 14 morphospecies from 7 genera). The most morphospecies-rich genera were Basalys, Coptera and Trichopria (15, 14 and 7 morphospecies respectively), with Coptera being the most specimen-rich in all samples. The same diapriid morphospecies prevailed in all studied habitats. The abundance estimators ACE and Chao1 predicted 61 (60 in Chao1) species for miombo stand, that is nearly 3.0 times richer than the 22 species estimated for wild loquat, 2.1 (2.6) times richer than the 29 (23) species estimated for loblolly pine and 1.5 times richer than the 40 (39) species estimated for eucalypt. The diapriids of the exotic eucalypt and native miombo stands were most similar, and clustered together with diapriids of the exotic loblolly pine stand.

The biology of a koinobiont parasitoid of leaf-cutting ant larvae, Szelenyiopria talitae (Hymenoptera: Diapriidae), was studied from naturally infested Acromyrmex subterraneus (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) nests. Nests were collected in the field from the Atlantic rainforest biome in the state of Rio de Janeiro. A total of fifty-three nests were collected from 2015 to 2018. Parasitized nests were only found during the months of September and October. Approximately 22% of the nests collected over a four-year period were found to have been parasitized by S. talitae. The mean within-nest parasitism rate was 66.3%. This diapriid displayed both solitary (14%) and gregarious parasitism (86%), with up to a maximum of 12 parasitoids developing within a single host. Gregarious parasitism with two (29%) or three (21%) S. talitae per host was most frequently observed. There was a positive correlation between the number of parasitoids per host and host size (dry weight), indicating that S. talitae females oviposited a higher number of eggs in larger hosts. There was also a negative correlation between S. talitae pharate adult size and the number of parasitoids per host, which could have been caused by sibling competition for limited host resources. The high levels of parasitism seen here had a debilitating effect on the colonies. Acromyrmex subterraneus is a serious pest in Brazil, and these studies lay the foundation for understanding the impact of S. talitae on ant populations.

Acropiesta perrichoti sp. nov., a new belytine wasp is described based on a well preserved male specimen from Eocene Baltic amber. This is the second fossil species of this extant genus, known already from the same amber deposit by Acropiesta janzeni Buhl, 2002.

A new species of the parasitic wasp Coptera Say was previously distinguished from other species via correspondence between ecological (host) differences and DNA barcodes. A description and figures for Coptera tonicsp. nov., along with revisions to existing keys that allow it to be distinguished from other Nearctic species without the aid of molecular characters, is provided in this work.

Heraty et al. (2011) and Sharkey et al. (2012) defined their Proctotrupoidea s. str. as a monophyletic group, a clade, using analytical methods and including all relevant extant taxa. These analyses strongly supported the monophyly of their new concept of the superfamily Proctotrupoidea. It included seven families: Austroniidae, Heloridae, Pelecinidae, Peradeniidae, Proctotrupidae, Roproniidae and Vanhorniidae. Diapriidae and Monomachidae, formerly considered to be proctotrupoids, were placed (with other taxa) in the sister-group to Proctotrupoidea sensu stricto.

Trichopria anastrephae Lima and Pachycrepoideus vindemmiae (Rondani) naturally occur together with the pest Drosophila suzukii (Matsumura) in Brazil. Due to their co-occurrence, it is important to understand competitive interactions between these pupal parasitoids and how this may impact D. suzukii parasitism levels. Thus, the aim of the study was to evaluate the interspecific competition between T. anastrephae and P. vindemmiae. Bioassays were performed with and without time advantage, with different exposure (treatments) of D. suzukii pupae to parasitoid species. Verified that there was a higher parasitism and emergence rate of T. anastrephae adults. This was not observed for P. vindemmiae that decreases the parasitism rate in the presence of T. anastrephae. In strawberry fruits bioassay, T. anastrephae females showed capacity to parasitize pupae of D. suzukii inside strawberry fruits. However, P. vindemmiae had a lower parasitism rate and consequently, fewer insects emerged when used alone or associated with the presence of T. anastrephae. Therefore, we can conclude that there is interspecific competition between T. anastrephae and P. vindemmiae in D. suzukii pupae, with T. anastrephae having a higher competitive advantage.

Coptera haywardi (Ogloblin) is a pupal endoparasitoid of tephritid flies with great potential as a biological control agent worldwide as it does not attack other Diptera. To reach its full potential, its mass rearing needs to be enhanced lowering costs. Here, we focused on the use of irradiated pupae of Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann) stemming from the temperature-sensitive lethal (tsl) Vienna-8 genetic sexing strain (= CcVienna-8), which is mass-produced in the San Juan Medfly and Parasitoid Mass Rearing Facility in Argentina. Exposure of 1- to 2-d-old CcVienna-8 pupae irradiated at 90 Gy to 6- to 8-d-old C. haywardi females at a 10:1 host/parasitoid ratio for 24 h turned out to be highly successful for the rearing of this parasitoid. High radiation doses (90–100 Gy) did not adversely influence fitness parameters of C. haywardi offspring F1, namely lifetime reproductive rates, adult life expectancy, and survival time. Demographic parameters in C. haywardi F1 from irradiated CcVienna-8 young pupae were improved compared to those values recorded from parasitoid originated from nonirradiated CcVienna-8 pupae. The present study aimed to analyze the chemical composition of five species of the genus Piper (P. aduncum L.; P. crassinervium Kunth.; P. malacophyllum Prels.; P. gaudichaudianum Kunth.; P. marginatum L.), and assess their toxicity to the adults of Drosophila suzukii (Diptera: Drosophilidae) and the pupal parasitoid Trichopria anastrephae Lima (Hymenoptera: Diapriidae). The major compounds were monoterpene hydrocarbons (5.3–60.9%); oxygenated monoterpenes (13.3%); sesquiterpenes hydrocarbons (8.3–45.3%), oxygenated sesquiterpenes (5.2–58.8%); and arylpropanoids (15.2–29.6%). In bioassays of ingestion and topical application, essential oils (EOs) from P. aduncum, P. gaudichaudianum, and P. marginatum killed approximately 100% of adults of D. suzukii, similarly to the insecticide based on spinetoram (75 mg L−1) (96.2% of mortality). Besides, the dry residues from P. aduncum, P. gaudichaudianum, and P. marginatum provided a repellent effect on oviposition (≅ 7 eggs/fruits) and negative effects on egg viability (≅ 2 larvae/fruits) of D. suzukii on artificial fruits. Based on the estimate of the lethal concentration required to kill 90% of exposed flies, EOs from P. aduncum, P. crassinervium, P. gaudichaudianum, P. malacophyllum, and P. marginatum provided low toxicity to the parasitoid T. anastrephae in a bioassay of ingestion and topical application (mortality

Comments Using Nixon’s (1980) and Masner & García’s (2002) keys to the genera of Diapriinae, Spilomicrus succinalis sp. nov. clearly keys out to Spilomicrus because of the following characters: antenna with 13 segments, flagellum thickened towards apex, frons unarmed, ocellar triangle in the ocular zone, notauli present, scutellum with an anterior bifoveate pit, wings fully developed, fore wing with pigmented Sc+R, marginal vein not more than one and a half times as long as wide, anterior margin of syntergite straight, without a furrow or a cleft at base. Following the key to the British species of Nixon (1980) and to Eastern Palaearctic species of Chemyreva (2018), S. succinalis sp. nov. keys out near S. comatus Chemyreva, 2015. It differs from this species by having F11 longer than F10, the petiole less than two times as long as wide and lacking the long hairs on the postgena (Chemyreva 2015).

Comments Using Nixon’s (1957) key to the genera of Belytinae, Pantolyta augustinusii sp. nov. keys out near Acropiesta Förster, 1856 because of the following characters: notauli present, second flagellomere not modified; scutellum without foveae; mandibles not forming a beak; marginal vein shorter than both radial cell and its distance from basal vein; pronotum with reduced epomia; large tergite markedly tapering towards petiole. Pantolyta augustinusii especially share with Acropiesta the antennal shelf prominent with toruli separated by a furrow, the 14-segmented antennae with F1 modified, the pronotal shoulders rounded, the notauli complete, the anterior scutellar pit large and quadrate, the propodeum with median keel simple, the fore wing venation with C, Sc+R, M+Cu, Rs, basal and marginal vein tubular, the petiole cylindrical (Macek 1998). However, due to their close similarities, Acropiesta has recently been synonymized under Pantolyta by Chemyreva & Kolyada (2021). Four other Pantolyta species are present in Baltic amber, two having been described under Acropiesta and not duly transferred by Chemyreva & Kolyada (2021): Pantolyta antiqua Buhl, 1999, Pantolyta janzeni (Buhl, 2002) comb. nov., Pantolyta perrichoti (Jouault & Nel, 2020) comb. nov. and Pantolyta somnulenta Maneval, 1938. Pantolyta antiqua has the marginal vein as long as its distance from basal vein whereas it is distinctly shorter in Pantolyta augustinusii (Buhl 1999); P. janzeni has a distinct emargination of F 1 in the male antenna, the marginal vein is shorter and the postmarginal vein is longer than in Pantolyta augustinusii (Buhl 2002); P. perrichoti has the median propodeal keel bifid (Jouault & Nel 2020) and P. somnulenta has the radial cell shorter than the marginal vein (Maneval 1938).

Etymology We dedicate this species to Villum Fonden, who generously contributed to funding for purchasing the amber pieces studied. The specific epithet is to be treated as a noun in the genitive case. Type material Holotype NHMD-608360, a complete male; paratype NHMD-608369, a complete male. Locality and horizon Baltic amber is considered to be of Bartonian–Priabonian age, ca 34–38 Ma. Description Male BODY. BL = 1.82 mm. Body highly glabrous. Comments Using Nixon’s (1957) key, Belyta knudhoejgaardi sp. nov. keys out to Belyta because of the following characters: macropterous, notauli present, mandibles of ordinary form, scutellum without a row of foveae along posterior margin, marginal vein shorter than its distance from basal vein, pronotum elongate, without a hollow on each side (= pronotal pits), epomia present, median keel of propodeum simple, petiole more than one and a half time as long as wide. The flattened body is generally accepted to diagnose Belyta spp. (Macek 1996) and is present in Belyta knudhoejgaardi, strengthening the placement of the species in Belyta. Following the key to European species of Belyta of Macek (1996), Belyta knudhoejgaardi sp. nov. keys out between B. subclausa Kieffer, 1916 and B. validicornis Thomson, 1858. It differs from the first by having a marked epomia and from the second by having the median propodeal keel simple (Macek 1996). The diagnostic character for Belyta knudhoejgaardi is the curiously marked longitudinal keel on the mesopleuron, which is absent in other species of Belyta. It differs from most extant representatives of Pantoclis by having the marginal vein much longer than the r-rs (Nixon 1957; Sharma 1980; Buhl 1998). Pantoclis longiscapa Chambers, 1974 has a similar fore wing configuration but differs by having F1 very long and F2 distinctly longer than the following flagellomeres (Chambers 1974). Leptorhaptus is currently regarded as a synonym of Cinetus (Masner 1964). Cinetus elongatus displays all the diagnostic characters of Cinetus provided by Quadros & Brandão (2017), especially the large anterior scutellar pit, the posterior extremity of notauli directed toward a point within the anterior scutellar pit, the marginal vein shorter than radial cell and slightly shorter than its distance to basal vein. Comments In Masner & García’s (2002) keys to the genera of Diapriinae, Doliopria baltica sp. nov. keys out to Doliopria Kieffer, 1910 because of the following characters: frons unarmed, antenna 11-segmented, notauli absent, wings fully developed, Sc+R separate from anterior margin of wing, basal vein absent. The description of the specimen is consistent with the original diagnosis of the genus by Kieffer (1910) and the revised diagnosis of Masner & García (2002). Male Unknown Comments The specimen was originally identified as the extant species Pantolyta macrocera (Thomson, 1858) by Buhl (2002) because of the brachypterous morph. However, we can observe some differences on the petiole and gaster. Pantolyta similis sp. nov. displays numerous fine longitudinal ribs dorsally on the petiole whereas there are fewer ribs in P. macrocera. Additionally, P. macrocera has shorter and stronger medial striations on T2 than Pantolyla similis (Chemyreva & Kolyada 2021: fig. 11g). Among the Baltic amber species, it differs from other Pantolyta species as follows: P. antiqua and P. somnulenta are macropterous and have a shorter petiole; Pantolyta augustinusii sp. nov. has the epomia present, whereas it is absent in Pantolyta similis sp. nov.; Pantolyta chemyrevae sp. nov. has the epomia present, the anterior scutellar pit more quadrate, the petiole more elongate and the striations on T2 shorter; P. janzeni and P. perrichoti has a longer petiole, more than two times as long as wide. Comments Using Nixon’s (1957) key, Cinetus breviscapus sp. nov. keys out to Cinetus Jurine, 1807 because of the following characters: mandibles of ordinary form, scutellum without a row of foveae posteriorly, marginal vein very long, notauli slightly divergent posteriorly. Following Nixon’s (1957) key to male species of Cinetus, Cinetus breviscapus keys out near C. aletes Nixon, 1957 because of its scape that is shorter than F1 but differs in having the first flagellomere less distinctly longer than the scape (ratio scape length/F1 length: 1.2 vs 1.43; Nixon 1957), the petiole longer (three times as long as wide vs “about two and a half times as long as wide”) and being bigger (body length ca 3.6 mm vs ca 2.2 mm). In Baltic amber, Cinetus breviscapus sp. nov. is considered as separate from Cinetus inclusus Maneval, 1938 and Cinetus balticus Szabó & Oehlke, 1986 because it clearly does not fit with their descriptions. The petiole of C. balticus is longer than that of C. breviscapus (ratio length/middle height: 4 vs 2.8) and the fore wing venation is different (C. breviscapus has a longer marginal vein, a longer radial cell, the postmarginal vein does not extend beyond the radial cell and Rs is conspicuous for almost all its length). Cinetus inclusus has a shorter petiole (ratio length/middle height: 1.5) and the scape as long as pedicel, F1 and half of F2 combined, unlike C. breviscapus whose scape is shorter than flagellomere 1.

International audience; The fossil diversity of Diapriidae in Baltic amber, dated Upper Eocene, has been poorly investigated. However, some studies suggest that this family was already diversified at this time. This is supported by our present study of the Baltic amber collection of the Natural History Museum of Denmark, from which we describe and figure ten new species belonging to the subfamilies Belytinae: Belyta knudhoejgaardi sp. nov., Cinetus breviscapus sp. nov., Cinetus elongatus sp. nov., Pantoclis globosa sp. nov., Pantolyta augustinusii sp. nov., Pantolyta chemyrevae sp. nov., Pantolyta similis sp. nov.; and Diapriinae: Basalys villumi sp. nov., Doliopria baltica sp. nov. and Spilomicrus succinalis sp. nov. The diversity of extant genera observed leads us to propose an origin in the early Cenozoic for these taxa. The fossil record of the Diapriidae in Baltic amber is also summarized.

Information about parasitoid wasp fauna can help determine the most appropriate methods for maintaining the ecological balance in agroecosystems, as these organisms are efficient natural enemies of various agricultural pests. The aim of this study was to survey the Hymenoptera families in conilon coffee plantations intercropped with other crops, focusing on the Diapriidae, Platygastridae and Scelionidae families, in order to determine wasps that could possibly act as biological controls. The study was carried out in eight conilon coffee farms located in three municipalities (Linhares, Marilândia and Sooretama) in Espirito Santo state, Brazil, with field samples collected in May (dry season) and December (rainy season) 2014. Were collected 1084 Hymenoptera specimens distributed in 10 superfamilies and 25 families. Fourteen genera of Scelionidae were collected, with Telenomus (34%), Idris (15%), Trissolcus (14%) and Ceratobaeus (10%) as the most abundant genera; seven genera of Diapriidae were collected with Doliopria (41%), Basalys (22%) andTrichopria (20%) as the most abundant; and two genera of Platygastridae were collected: Leptacis (52%) and Synopeas (14%). The highest abundance of wasp individuals was found in coffee intercropped with rubber trees. Intercropped coffee cultivation could potentially attract more natural enemies, as well as egg parasitoids that are promising biological controls. Here are described and ilustrated Szelenyiopria loiaconae sp. nov., Szelenyiopria jataiensis sp. nov., and the male of Szelenyiopria distinguenda (Loiacono) (Hymenoptera, Diapriidae). The pupal parasitoid Trichopria anastrephae Lima (Hymenoptera: Diapriidae) shows potential to control Drosophila suzukii (Matsumura) (Diptera: Drosophilidae), and understanding the behavior of this parasitoid in challenging environments is important to obtain a higher efficiency in mass rearing and in biological control programs. This study aimed to verify the effects of extrinsic intraspecific competition and the absence of host on the parasitism of T. anastrephae in D. suzukii pupae. Therefore, to evaluate the parasitism of T. anastrephae under intraspecific competition, groups of 20 pupae (24 h old) of D. suzukii were offered for different densities of parasitoids (1, 3, 5, or 10 couples) during a 7-day period. Whereas to evaluate the effects of host deprivation on parasitism of T. anastrephae, we tested different treatments: T1-no deprivation, T2-complete deprivation, T3-deprivation every other day, T4-deprivation for 3 days, and T5-deprivation for 7 days. The increase of density of parasitoids resulted in an increase of oviposition scars on pupae and a longer biological cycle, suggesting the occurrence of superparasitism. Increased density also resulted in a higher percentage of attacked pupae, but did not affect parasitoids emergence nor sex ratio. Host deprivation affected number of parasitized pupae, number and sex ratio of offspring, and the longevity of females. Based on our findings, competition among females do not impair offspring viability, and host deprivation for a period up to 7 days do not influence parasitism capacity, indicating that it can be used as a pre-release strategy.

Seven species of the genus Pantolyta Foerster are found to occur in Russia. One species, P. ele­gans sp. nov. from Russia (Kunashir I.) and Japan (Hokkaido I.), is described as new for science. Eight known species of Pantolyta are reviewed and keyed. Colour illustrations are provided to all species.
