The article presents questions related to case summary of a patient. A 34-year-old otherwise healthy Caucasian female with severe hypertension became pregnant. At 31 weeks of gestation, premature rupture of the membranes occurred and a female newborn was delivered. The newborn suffered from perinatal asphyxia and primary support included intubation, fluid challenge and correction of acidosis with bicarbonate. Physical examination of the newborn revealed subtle contractions of the extremities and distended cranial sutures, but no further malformations. She seemed hypotonic but there were no clinical or encephalographic signs of seizure activity in the first week of life.
